Jessalyn Tester: Hey, YouTube.

Welcome or welcome back to my channel.

Are you someone who is considering affiliate marketing, and you're wondering, "Does it

really work?"

I'm here to give you a few pointers that specifically shape why the large majority of people who

decide to pursue affiliate marketing or any online marketing opportunity don't succeed,

and there's a lot of reasons for this, right?

Some lack motivation, some lack patience, some lack confidence, and those are all common

sense, but what I'm going to share with you in this video are some things that absolutely

no one is talking about because if they did, it would probably hurt their paycheck, so

this is going to be totally unfiltered.

Jessalyn Tester: It's going to be real and raw.

It's probably going to progress the further on that I get into this video, but I am a

Christian, and I am going to do what is honoring to God first and foremost, and I think these

are things that need to be shared.

These are things that you need to consider to ultimately decide whether or not affiliate

marketing is the right opportunity for you, and if it's going to work out for you in your

favor.

My name is Jessalyn Tester, and I am a Christian marketing mentor, and on this channel, I share

my passion for online marketing and my tips and tricks on how to be successful with it.

I also share my life with my family, and of course my faith.

Jessalyn Tester: Be sure to subscribe and hit the bell for notifications so that you're

informed of when I upload a new video every week.

Now, if you're new to affiliate marketing or you're just researching affiliate marketing

because you're looking for a way to make more money, I will tell you the opportunity is

absolutely legit.

You can make a great deal of income from affiliate marketing.

I've been involved in both direct selling and affiliate marketing, and I will say that

affiliate marketing was the better fit for me personally, although I am a huge advocate

for affiliate marketing.

I really want to share some things that you should consider first before you get involved

in the opportunity yourself, so let's get started.

Jessalyn Tester: Ultimately, there's a lot of affiliate marketing opportunities out there.

If you look on Walmart's website, or Amazon's website, even the biggest name brands out

there have affiliate marketing opportunities that you can become a part of, and I'm a firm

believer that you shouldn't limit yourself to just one.

If you can implement several streams of congruent income, that's a smart thing to do.

That's only going to secure you, financially give you more financial stability.

Speaker 2: Oh, I like that.

Speaker 3: Yeah, me too.

Jessalyn Tester: When you're researching these companies, you want to make sure that they've

been in business for a long time, that they have positive reviews, a competitive compensation

plan, see if they provide any training themselves, and you want to make sure that it is something

that you can get behind, that it's not only a service that others are going to want and

need and use, but it's something that you want and need and are going to use yourself.

With all that being said though, if you're going to get involved in several different

affiliate marketing companies, then you need to have a strategy on how you're going to

market for them.

The truth is if you go onto your social media platforms like Facebook, and you try advertising

for all of them at once, that's not going to work.

Speaker 4: They've done studies, you know, 60% of the time.

It works every time.

Speaker 5: That doesn't make sense.

Jessalyn Tester: It's actually going to confuse people, it's going to make you seem kind of

flaky or not real passionate about whatever you're involved in, and it's going to turn

people off.

I would advise you to start with one, and then have a strategy for how you can implement

the others going forward that aren't going to conflict with it.

Please don't just chase after every shiny ball that you see.

Like I said, there's a lot of opportunities out there, and if you think you're just going

to take advantage of all of them, then you could be setting yourself up for some major

embarrassment.

If you're just jumping from one opportunity to the next, and people see you hyping up

all these different things, you're going to lose your credibility.

Jessalyn Tester: People are going to think that you're full of, you know?

I don't want to see that happen to you, so you got to choose something starting out with

... I would advise starting out with just one, and I would make sure that it's something

that you know that you're going to stick with.

Once you've chosen that opportunity or that company, I would stay away from even talking

about the company itself.

If you've been following my channel for any period of time, you know of two companies

in specific that I am an affiliate for because I have mentioned them in my videos, and not

solely just for the purpose of SEO on YouTube and Google, but if you go on any of my social

media accounts, you will never see me mentioning the companies that I work for.

I actually use a lot of attraction marketing methods to pique the interest of others and

get them to come to me and ask me questions about what I do.

Jessalyn Tester: The second thing that you want to research is not only the company,

but your mentor.

If you have been introduced this opportunity through someone in particular, or you're looking

for someone that can guide you in the right direction, do your research.

If this is your best friend or your cousin, as much as you love them and as excited about

the opportunity as they might be, it might not be the smartest idea for you to choose

that person to mentor you if they haven't achieved any kind of success themselves.

You want to join somebody that has the tools and the ability to show you how to be successful

with this.

If you were going to go to a gym and you were going to try to lose weight, and you needed

a trainer, you wouldn't pick a trainer that was 40 pounds overweight, right?

Jessalyn Tester: No.

You would pick someone that had achieved the desired result that you're looking to accomplish.

Speaker 6: Tell me what to do.

You tell me to eat lima beans, I'll eat lima beans.

Jessalyn Tester: With that being said, the other part of this is that you don't want

to pick someone as your mentor just because they appear to be successful.

Just because someone appears to be successful, doesn't mean that they are the right fit for

you.

I have seen a lot of people in my time with affiliate marketing who like to show their

success by flashing money, and cars, and houses, and things like that, and I've talked about

this in some of my previous videos, is something that really irks me, and I think is so tacky,

and it shows that they don't have real marketing skills.

They are just using the material things that they have to lure in other people, and then

they never show those people how to duplicate the same success, so now, they have to resort

to somehow faking their own success, otherwise they just fall flat on their face because

they haven't been provided with any kind of training with any real value.

A lot of people in the world in any career, even in online marketing are going to be willing

to do whatever they have to do.

They will lie, they will cheat and they will steal to make money.

Speaker 7: You sit on a throne of lies.

Jessalyn Tester: They will tell you whatever it is that you want to hear, that they think

that you want to hear in order to get what it is that they're wanting to get from you.

I've attended many online webinars for some of the biggest marketing gurus out there where

I have had to sit through hours of babble and garbage, listening to these people talk

about themselves, and their story, and where they come from, and what they've gained to

acquire success today.

They actually teach you to do your webinars in that manner.

"This is how you do them, and this is what you talk about", and they always talk about

themselves first, and after an hour, they're going to try to end it with selling you on

some thousand-dollar program.

That program is guaranteed to change your life.

Speaker 8: Celine, it is my day of lucky.

Jessalyn Tester: The most I've ever invested in a marketing program was $500, and the reason

that I invested $500 into this particular program was because I really liked this girl's

transparency.

I mean, there was no hype to it.

From the very beginning, she said, "I'm not going to waste your time.

I'm not going to make you sit on this for an hour before I tell you what kind of investment

is required", so she let you know that there was a $500 investment, and the things that

you were going to get from her program, and if this was not something that you could afford,

she understood.

She gave them some free resources for just showing up to the training, and I really liked

that.

Jessalyn Tester: I really liked that transparency, and so I invested the $500 into her course

after I attended the webinar, and it was hands down the best investment that I have ever

made.

It was worth every single penny.

Are there ways for you to be successful without going into debt?

Speaker 9: I know the answer to this question.

Speaker 10: Raise your hand.

Jessalyn Tester: Because of the self-driven agendas of most people today, it's not a wise

decision for me to listen to people who don't listen to God, and that's just for me.

What I would encourage you to do, don't just research the company, but research the mentor

or the mentors that you're considering partnering up with.

"What do you have in common?

Are there testimonials of others that have worked with them, and what specifically are

they saying about them?"

Reach out to them even, and just see how willing they are to answer your questions, how responsive

they are to assist you, and ask them upfront what it's going to cost if anything for them

to mentor you.

Jessalyn Tester: Leave me a comment below and let me know if you believe the idea that

it takes money to make money.

This is something that I'm sure many of you have heard, and I would love to hear your

feedback on that.

Now, you've researched the company and you've picked a good company, and you found a good

mentor, and now, it really does boil down to you.

What your effort is going to look like determines whether or not this is going to work out for

you as well.

"Will you be able to motivate yourself?"

Jessalyn Tester: "Are you going to be dedicated to learning the tools that your mentor has

provided to you?

Will you give it time to grow?"

It's not going to happen overnight, and if anybody is telling you that, I'm going to

say flat out that that's a lie.

"Is it still worth it?"

Yes, absolutely.

Jessalyn Tester: It is still an opportunity worth pursuing.

It's not hard work, but it does still take work, and many people who decided to get involved

in affiliate marketing have full-time jobs and responsibilities, and I've been there.

It could be the perfect company, you could have the most amazing mentor, but your mentor,

as much as they may want for you to be successful with it, they can't be expected to hold your

hand throughout the entire process.

You have to want it enough for yourself.

Speaker 11: You want something, go get it, period.

Jessalyn Tester: Affiliate marketing is not a hobby.

It is an actual online business without all the extra cost incorporated that a typical

brick and mortar business has.

If you're going to get involved in affiliate marketing, have a daily checklist, exactly

what it is that you need to accomplish each day and that you carve out and are intentional

about completing every day, and you have to believe that you will reap what you sow.

There's actually a lot of free tools out there that can help you to complete the work that

is involved with affiliate marketing and help you better manage your time, but if you're

not willing to commit even 30 to 60 minutes a day, then you're really going to struggle

to get your business off the ground and make any kind of money.

Now you know that affiliate marketing does in fact work.

Jessalyn Tester: There are a lot of people making a lot of money from affiliate marketing.

I've outlined for you the specific things that you should be considering before you

actually get involved into affiliate marketing.

What I love most about the opportunities that I'm associated with is that they actually

do give people who are struggling a chance to succeed.

They don't require this large investment.

In fact, it's actually free to get started.

Speaker 12: Surely, you can't be serious.

Speaker 13: I am serious, and don't call me Shirley.

Jessalyn Tester: If this is something that you would like more information on, there

are details in the description below.

If you liked this video, please be sure to give it a thumbs up.

Share it with others that may be looking for a work from home income opportunity.

helpful to you in any way.

Do You Really NEED an EYE CREAM? Take the quiz! - Duration: 11:53.

Hi guys, welcome back to my channel if you are you here welcome. My name is penny

I'm a certified advanced esthetician in Portland

Oregon and I'm also a licensed hairstylist Oh if you are interested in all things beading then I would hope you would consider subscribing

Today's video is gonna be about eye cream and specifically do I need an eye cream

I have clients at work, but also I have people on here asking me all the time

Do you really need an eye cream? Do you need a separate eye cream, and that's a great question

And I don't think it's always yes

So with that I have four simple questions that you can answer yes or no

That can kind of help you determine whether or not you need an eye cream

so pause this video grab yourself a pen and a paper or get your phone out and

Let's answer four quick questions and determine whether or not we need an eye cream

Question number one is the skin on your face dry

And if the answer to that is yes, do you wear an emollient or heavy face cream? Yes or no?

Question number two is the skin around your eyes showing dehydration, dryness fine lines

crepeiness

Yes, or no question number three is the skin on your face normal or normal to oily but the skin around your eyes

dehydrated dry or crepey yes or no and

A question number four. Do you have special concerns around your eyes like puffiness or discoloration? Yes or no?

Okay, so if you answered yes to any of those questions

Then you might possibly need an eye cream if you answered no to all four of those questions

Then I would say no you'd probably don't need an eye cream

You can use your general skincare that you use on your fade and use that around your eyes as well

As long as it doesn't cause you sensitivity or it isn't too active and you get it too close to your eyes

So that's kind of a you have to gauge that out

But if you answered no to all of those questions and no I would say skip an eye cream

Don't waste your money if you answered. Yes

To those questions or any of those questions then yeah, you can need an eye cream

So let's go through it

first of all with the first question if you are dry on your face and you use a heavier cream

That cream is not good around your eyes

And the reason why is the delicate skin around our eyes is thinner and on the weight of that cream

first of all, it's not good for our

aging thin skin around our eyes

but it's also not good because it can cause something called Malia and Malia are these really

pain in the rear end

Kernel type things that form under the skin that you absolutely cannot get out that you have to have

Lanced and removed by an aesthetician or by a dermatologist and the best way to avoid them

It's not put superheavy over emollient things around your eyes

So if the skin on your face is dried the likelihood is the skin around your eyes is dry and you need a separate

lighter weight, but

Hydrating eye cream. So number two if the skin around your eyes is showing dehydration and dryness and

Crepeiness or any one of those then you very well may just need a little bit of extra hydration around your eyes

So you may need to give it a little bit of extra love than what you're doing to the skin on your face

So you may actually need a nice

hydrating eye cream

number three if you are normal on your face or normal to oily

But you are showing the signs of crepeiness dryness dehydration around your eyes. You definitely are going to want an eye cream

anything that you're putting on your skin if you are normal or normal to oily is and and you're showing signs of

Aging or creepiness or dryness around your eyes

Nothing that you're probably putting on your face is just doing enough for the skin around your eyes

So you probably need a separate eye cream

And finally if you have special concerns

Like puffiness or discoloration then a separate eye cream can definitely help with that as well

so all of that said I

Want to tell you that I really don't think that you need to spend a lot of money on eye cream

I definitely have more expensive eye creams that I like

but I don't think that they're a must I think that there are eye creams on the market that are fantastic that are

$20 or less and I have two of them that I want to share with you today that I really really like and

I think that can benefit you if you have any of those four questions answered

Yes, the first one and we're going to start off with the one

That is the least expensive. This one is by Cetaphil and it is a it's called hydrating eye

gel cream with higher ilanic acid now this one actually has

Niacin amide in it, which is vitamin b3 helps with your barrier function. It also helps block tyrosinase

It has glycerin which is a humectant

Has licorice root which is also a tyrosine ease inhibitor, which will help with pigment

It has grapeseed oil camellia seed oil. Those are hydrators this eye cream. You guys is somewhere between eight and nine dollars

It is really really good

Now the way that you make this work really well is you apply it to slightly damp skin hyaluronic acid

Draws in water and if it doesn't have enough to draw from your skin, it can actually make your skin drier

So I have a feeling that if people ever use something like this around their eyes and they actually think that their eyes got drier

it's cuz this didn't have enough moisture to draw from the environment and

Obviously the skin around the eyes wasn't hydrated to begin with there's nothing for it to draw

It pulls it from the skin the answer to that is to lightly miss your face with something like I love this

Bioderma this is the Hydra bio and it's a soothing refreshing water. It is not expensive

It's huge you get ten ounces in this it's fantastic when you're doing your skincare routine

You can simply

lightly miss your face and

put a little bit of a higher lenok acid eye cream around your eyes and you will get a lot of extra hydration and it

Can really help with that

area and I'll show you

It's a really nice gel cream consistency

Soaks right right in it's very nice. It doesn't leave a bunch of

Residue and if you apply it over

some kind of a hydration water and

Honestly, if you guys don't want to buy a mist you can use a tiny bit of tap water tap it around your eyes

So it's just barely

damp

And then you can put a higher Lonoke acid eye cream over it and you will get the benefits I do

Love these myths. I also really love the LA roche-posay

This is called a thermal. It's a sensitive skin water

You know that I love the event. I love the cuddly grape water. I love my scope Loomis

but in this case

I really think an actual water is the best so one of the spray waters or

go ahead and use some water right out of your sink and

very lightly damp and then use a sodium high or Lonnie or hyaluronic acid and

You'll get some really nice hydration around your eyes and again 8 to 9 bucks. It's it's very affordable

Now the other one that I would say if you're a little bit more

dehydrated and

you need a little bit more help with the fine lines and the crepeiness and that kind of stuff and this is a

Holy Grail for me for sure. It is by

Tsukioka tsukada and it's the same brand as

My moisture lotion my urea moisture lotion that you guys hear me talk about all the time. I

Love this moisture lotion. It uses urea to hydrate urea is an incredible hydrator and it

Is able to hydrate not only the surface of your skin?

But it's able to get in a little bit deeper and provide a little longer lasting hydration

This eye cream is somewhere around 20 22 dollars

But it uses urea it also has glycerin

This has ceramides it has sodium higher aloni. It has liquorice again to help with brightness and it uses aloe vera

This one is really really fantastic

This one's around 20 22 bucks, but look at the difference in size

You get so much for your money with a sukiyaki, Suhana. Here's the deal

Both of these are probably going to last you absolutely forever. You literally a pearl size

amount total for both eyes, so

Both of these are very very affordable and it will last you an incredible amount of time now with this one

It's using urea but it does have a little bit of that higher like acid

So I do still like to put it over my essence

if you don't have this again a slightly damp under-eye is fantastic for putting any

Anything with higher logic acid in it?

it's especially when you're applying it to an area that is already dehydrated a

Little bit of water there to give the high erotic acid

Ingredient something to draw from is just it's a great tip and you don't have to you don't have to buy sprays

I just like them

I think it's a nice experience in the morning when you're getting ready

But you can just use regular old water if you don't want to so those are my two

Affordable suggestions now if you answered yes to number four

That's a whole nother video and I will do that because there are definitely eye creams eye gels

On the market that are fantastic for helping with puffiness. You guys know if you watched

Several months ago. I did a collaboration with

Blonde Tea Party and Cathy from Cathy's beauty care chats all about puffiness and I love the benefit puff off

It's one of my favorite eye creams that I think it's around $29 and it really helps with under-eye puffiness

there are others like that that I like very much but just for the

dehydration the dryness that everyday concerns the brightness these two

Are super affordable and they're very very good

This one takes my under eyes from looking kind of older and literally gives them a little bit of plumpness

I feel like when I smile I don't see as much of that creepiness in there

Which is one of my aging kind of concerns that I'm noticing I noticing not so much crazy crow's feet

I'm noticing that when I smile my it's bunching up here and that's got a lot to do with

Dehydration and this one definitely does a lot for that

The year is absolutely an incredible ingredient and I love it very much

so I

Hope that this was helpful you guys I guess the bottom line is you don't have to spend an arm and a leg on

Eye cream it to me the majority of the reason why people need I cream is

The situation on their face. What is your facial skin type and once you know that

That's how you determine whether or not you use an eye cream, and you do not always need an eye cream

You absolutely don't always need an eye cream

So the answer is definitely in those questions and then you treat accordingly

These are great options. That won't break the bank. So let me know down below

Do you some eye cream argue one of those people? That doesn't do you believe in eye cream. What are your thoughts on that?

I hope that you guys are having a great day so far and I will talk to you again very very soon

Ari Hoenig - Micro Timing: 32nd Notes - Duration: 1:54.

We're going to talk a little bit about 32nd note subdivisions here, and how we can incorporate

them into our beats.

Before we're going to get to 32nd notes, we got to do 16th notes first.

So here is a grouping of five.

We're going to group the 32nd notes in three now.

Some different partials, with the groupings of six.

Let's try this one, it'll sound like this.

There are possibilities, also, for doing a grouping of nine, of course, which would sound

like this.

I'm going to talk to you today about 16th note triplets.

This is a subdivision that we rarely think in.

Here are groupings of three 16th note triplets.

So, groupings of seven would sound like this.

Groupings of five.

The sky is the limit, you know.

Experiment.

Let this just be a stepping stone for you, and for what you come up with.

Identify, Prioritise then Assign - Duration: 1:05.

Hey guys Den here with another quick video for you today.

Today talking about the importance of assigning tasks and delegating

So I was talking to a client the other day and we were talking about

you know the variety of tasks you had to do in a given week in the business

outside of being on shoots.

And one of the things that you need to understand

is that not all tasks are created equally.

So what we want to be doing is looking at how to identify those

tasks of the highest priority and then prioritizing them based on importance so

for example a sales tasks are calling a client to check-in in them would be much

more important than just checking email and email is one of those things that

people spend a lot of time checking email.

Once you've identified the tasks in order of priority, then you want to

assign them now either to yourself or someone else.

What you ultimately want to be doing is building up a database of

all the low level tasks that you can assign to an assistant down the line.

That's it for today folks, talk to you again soon

What are some signs of a past grow op? - Duration: 3:55.

- Hi, it's Brendan Stoneman at RE/MAX Kelowna here.

And I am joined by home inspector,

Murray Klingbeil from Amerispec.

So I've had buyers express concern to me that

they're going to move into their house

and they're gonna go meet the neighbors,

and someone's gonna to tell them,

"hey did you know that this place used to be a grow op?".

And I know there laws require that they

be disclosed to the next buyer.

Usually that happens, but sometimes it doesn't.

So I'm just wondering, as a home inspector,

are there signs that you can pick up on,

which maybe might suggest that it was grow op in the past?

- Another very good question.

Sometimes it's so blatantly obvious that

an untrained eye can figure it out.

Other times, if it's done properly,

it's extremely difficult to find a past grow op house.

Things to look for: in construction,

we use red duct tape for one thing, and one thing only,

that's to seal vapor barrier behind drywall.

If you're walking through the basement of a house,

or even on upper floors in some houses,

take a look for the red adhesive residue

that you're gonna see left over

from when that was pulled off.

So when they're making a house into a grow op,

they totally wrap the interior, particularly basements,

with a reflective white house wrap.

Tyvak, we all know what that is.

So they tape it and you'll see

lots and lots of staples, okay.

If they floor joists are exposed,

look for the residue, left over staples,

and they often just rip it down

so you'll see little fragments of the house wrap.

You'll see holes where they hang their grow light equipment.

Another thing to look for, predominantly

the easiest ones to do grow ops on

have an overhead service lateral for the power.

So between where it goes in the service mask to the meter,

it runs through the wall in the living room.

So if you take a bright flash light

and hold it on the wall about where the power meter is,

look for a haphazard handyman patch job.

Cause that's where they cut through the wall on the

inside of the house to steal the power ahead of the meter.

Look for pot rings on the floor,

you can see where all the pots were

and they watered it and it stained it.

Take a look over the fence, if it's a rural property,

and see if there's piles of potting soil

or a number of the leftover little plastic containers

from the "clones", which are the babies that they use.

Look for water hoses,

or hose taps that are plumbed into a basement for no reason.

Cause they're lazy, they don't wanna

pack the water up and down, so they have a

garden hose right down there.

Look for holes that are cut through walls or ceilings.

Look for bad patch jobs in closets,

particularly a split level, cause that's where they

run all of the ducting into the attic to vent it.

And of course the tell tale sign is

the second you look in the attic it'll be black with mold.

- So lots of ways to tell that

there was, potentially, some past activity.

I'm sure in your years of doing home inspections

you've caught more than a few.

- I am happy to say that they are petering out now

with, of course, the changes in the industry.

And the small mom-and-pop shows are no more,

very few of them. But in the height of things,

in 2005, I think it was, when our good old BC bud

was trading straight across for cocaine, pound for pound.

In one week, I did five grow op houses.

- [Brendan] Wow. - And that was just me,

not all the other inspectors in town.

- Amazing. So lots of ways to tell, best way obviously,

have a professional come out and take a look at it.

- Correct.

Music to Books Tag - Duration: 18:32.

Fluffy was in my filming place. She think it's really nice 'cause I got my pillow up against the wall

and she likes to have her back supported when she naps.

Don't you throw up on me! Hello and welcome to the channel!

Today I'm doing a tag which is the Music to Books tag by Nicole Pierman.

Her channel is linked below.

My cat has decided to join me for this. Some tags are kind of boring

because they're very vague or generalized

but I really like the two that I've done,

this one and the one I've done before (also by Nicole Pierman)

because they're very in depth or they get you to look at things

in a different way than you normally would and

so they kind of get you to think about things and I like that.

So let's get started! How this works is:

Nicole has picked out ten songs and then she's written prompts based on those.

The first one is Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran and the prompt for that one is:

A character you would be with forever if they were real.

which basically started off the whole thing with the hardest question

because I do have a number of fictional crushes.

Nicole talked about Rhys and I would agree with that mostly.

except I don't know if my Ace-ness would be very compatible there.

she also mentioned Mr. Darcy

which I'm gonna have to say I would pick - it's kind of a toss-up between Mr. Darcy

and Faramir from the Lord of the Rings - particularly book Faramir -

he's even nicer than movie Faramir.

Although the movie Faramir is very good-looking.

But i have to say that Mr. Darcy with the whole socially anxious dweeb thing

is something I'm very much drawn to.

Also he doesn't need an heir because he has a little sister so we'd be covered there.

And I can pretend he's ace I want to because it's not specified,

whereas with Rhys it's a very much specified.

All right number two is Spit It Out by Slip Knot

and the prompt for that one is: a book or series that has pissed you off.

One of the more difficult things about this tag

is that there are actually like three or four out of the ten that are kind of negative,

like "pissed you off" or another one is about things being poorly written,

and I like to do mainly positive reviews so I had to think a little harder

because my natural instinct is just to never talk about those ones

so I had to think a little bit. But I was able to drum up the appropriate number of negative cases.

I've actually mentioned them on this channel before, a couple of them.

Some you've never heard before or never heard in as much detail, though.

So for this one Ipicked Serafina and that one's by Rachel Hartman.

Actually it's the sequel to Serafina that has the worst problem with this.

That is that it the ending is unsatisfactory; the ending to Serafina is also unsatisfactory

but that's okay because it's the first one and there's a sequel.

But with the second one there's no more books following the same characters after that

so the unsatisfactory ending is really irritating.

So I really regret ever even reading it in the first place

because I'm just a very satisfying ending type person - I don't like open or vague endings.

Bitterblue also has a slightly open and vague ending although not quite as bad in my opinion.

Bitterblue is by Kristen something.

Basically some of the characters are still in a bad situation at the end

and it's just not resolved at all and that really really irritated me.

Because of that I didn't read her other book that had the same world but with different main characters

(which is Tess of the Road) because I assumed that it would have a similar unsatisfying ending

because obviously that's kind of what the author likes to do.

So what I really wish is that there would be some kind of a keyword

or little passphrase that had to go on the back or descriptions of books

saying "this book doesn't have a satisfying ending" because that way those of us

who that's important to wouldn't pick up the book!

Like there are age ratings so you can tell what kind of a book it is in that way

so there should also be unsatisfying ending letters or something

because there's some people who are fine with that

but there are a lot of people who are not and then it just upsets us.

Now we have number three: Video Games by Lana Del Rey and the prompt for that is:

a book or series you can't help but feel a loving nostalgia for.

There are a number of these because I read a lot as a kid

and my mom read to our whole family in the evenings for a long time

so there's a whole set of books that fit that.

The ones that my mom would read to us were mainly Rowan of Rin the series

and also Chronicles of Narnia, The Hobbit and Harriet, James Harriet, the books about him.

But there are some that I also read on my own and I'm very nostalgic for.

I decided to pick the Avalon series which is these!

There's a lot more, but these are the ones that I happen to have found in library sales and things like that.

There's actually at least two series I think, actually there's three or four,

but I've mainly read the Web of Magic, Avalon: Web of Magic series,

and Avalon: Quest for Magic series.

The Web of Magic series is first (that's what these three are in)

and then the second series is Quest for Magic.

You can kind of see that's kind of thicker.

It's slightly more grown up - they're middle grade -

The imagination is just so good.

I really really like the the magic system in these and the whole system of worlds.

There's a number of worlds - you actually travel between the magical worlds on the web of magic through portals

and that has actually inspired a lot of my imaginings of magic

because of how influential it was when I was a kid.

and so some of the ways that I write even now it can be traced back to these books.

And then the next one is You're Welcome from Moana.

I really love that song - and the prompt for that is:

a character that starts out full of themselves but ends up changing by the end of the book or series.

For that I'm actually having to draw from the same series.

This girl in the middle here, who is also rainbow haired girl

and walking through the fairy forest girl is named Kara

and at the beginning of this series she's very full herself.

She's the popular girl at school, she was kind of the queen bee at school.

She had all the cool friends.

She was rich, she had the nice clothes so she starts out very much caring a lot about those things,

about herself and how cool she is and how she appears to others

and she has to gradually change into someone who very much cares about all the magical creatures who are in trouble

and who becomes a very important part of the little trio and also the wider world of magic.

Next song is: Madhouse by Anthrax.

And the prompt for that is a book or series that was so poorly written they drove you mad,

which has happened to me a couple of times.

The worst case of which - I won't tell you what book or author it was -

but I read a hundred pages of a 600 page epic, and first of all: it didn't need to be 600 pages.

Second of all the, like, epic sort of parts that were about scary things or very urgent bad things happening

were actually kind of okay written but casual scenes -

-it's mystery sort of so the scenes where l two detectives were talking to each other,

like partners who've known each other forever, those scenes were super awkward

and just were written badly and then the bad guy was cliched and stupid

and it was horrible and so I finally dnf-ed it after a hundred pages.

Then I skipped the end as I do normally when I'm gonna dnf a book

and the ending was also really horribly written.

That was an action scene and that action scene was also really really bad.

It was an indie published book I will admit.

Another one that I had that I put down after just the first two pages was an indie book,

on the first page there was a sentence that read "the brave young man shielded the helpless young woman from the blast"

or something like that and like I'm not gonna even explain what's so wrong with that you can figure it out yourself.

but my personal idea of what should be done to unpopular or unknown books

that are terrible is that they should be left to suffer in obscurity.

I don't mind bashing a popular book because everybody already knows about it

so it's not like I'm gonna boost them by saying negative things about them

which would probably happen if I mentioned unknown books and bashed them.

Number six is Somebody to Love by Queen.

The prompt is: a book, author, poet, or series it needs more love and recognition.

For this one there are also a number I could pick

but I've talked about most of them before because I think that!

So I decided to pick Wren to the Rescue - the author is Sherwood Smith.

I just don't hear a lot about it.

It kind of straddles between being middle grade and YA which is common for books that start out

when the protagonist is like, 11 or so seems to be a common age

and then progresses with them into being a teenager.

So this is one of those series and it is about Wren,

a girl named Wren and her best friend Tess.

And you find out right in the beginning that Tess is a secret princess

and so when they're 10 or 11 years old Tess and her friend Wren get whisked off

from the orphanage they've grown up in to the palace.

and it turns out that Tess was hidden because her parents, the royalty,

were afraid of a sorcerer who threatened them and would take her away or kill her.

And so they bring her back in secret but unfortunately as you once again find out right in the beginning

Tess is found out and kidnapped anyway and so Wren has to go and rescue her,

because for some reason she doesn't trust the adults to do it.

Which quite frankly I kind of - and it's a major theme in my own story where the teenagers happened to handle stuff

because the adults won't do anything / are incapable so I won't knock her for that.

And she teams up with a couple of other young people, very young people, to rescue her friend

and I just love me a middle-grade quest about little kids going off and doing stuff that adults can't do.

Number 7 is Stressed Out by 21 Pilots.

I actually have some some weird nostalgic memories associated with that one

because my roommate played that a lot - my roommate when I was in Bible School -

and I particularly remember it playing while I was packing up to leave on our last day

so would that bring up some memories for me!

But the prompt is: a book or series that stressed you out so much you either had to take a break or stop reading it entirely.

And for that one an obvious pick was The Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis

It's just very dark and creepy and not in a horror kind of way that people know like horror would like,

just in a nasty sort of way so I had to take frequent breaks when I was reading.

I read like a chapter at a time and then took at least the rest of the day away from it

if not more and so it took me a long time to read.

But I eventually did get through it and finish it.

And the ending was really great so if you're interested in reading that and you feel stuck in the middle

like you don't want to read more because it's so dark I would recommend

skipping to the end rather than putting it down entirely because the ending is very hopeful and uplifting.

The eight song is Sound of Silence and Nicole is particularly talking about covers by Disturbed.

And the prompt is: a book or series alleged that left you speechless in either a good or bad way.

For that one I chose in a good way and I chose Temeraire

because it was one of those series where the end was so wonderful and lovely

and the whole series had been lovely and wonderful

and I really loved the characters but I also really loved the ending that the characters got.

So I just ended by sitting quietly when I turned the last

page I closed the cover and just held it to my chest silently and hugged it.

I mean, you know those kinds of books just need a hug?

The ninth song is Viva la Revolucion by The Adicts and the prompt is:

a book or series that speaks to you about a political topic.

and for that I have to one that I have already read and one that I will be reading soon-ish maybe.

First is The Witch Doesn't Burn In This One by Amanda Lovelace

which is a poetry collection I talked about quite a bit in my July wrap-up video.

And it's - basically it's all about feminism and all about angry feminism

and being angry about all the things that have been done to women and are being done to women.

And it's a very revolution-inciting type of poetry collection so I think that fits very well.

And another also very revolutionary topic type book is The Beasts Who Fought For Fairyland Until The Very End And Further Still,

which is a short story by my new almost favorite ever author Catherynne M. Valente.

She published it on her blog and it's about before the first fairyland book

when the person who the main character in the first book fights against,

when she first took over, how the beasts who already lived in fairyland

when she started oppressing them and etc. etc. how they fought back.

And even the title makes me cry,

makes me emotional so I definitely know the whole story is gonna make me emotional

so I have to emotionally prepare myself to read that,

kind of like I have to emotionally prepare myself for some animes.

You have to be in a steady sort of mood because you're not gonna handle it otherwise.

So I'm waiting to tackle that one until I'm in a good place for it.

The last one, number ten, is This Love by Maroon 5:

a book or series that broke your heart and you can't get over it.

And that one would definitely be Mastiff by Tamora Pierce.

Tamora Pierce has this Tortall collection that is based in all in one country.

There's like three quartets and a duology, then a trilogy.

Now she's writing more - because people will keep writing.

The last book in her most recent trilogy, Mastiff, which is about a cop,

a beat cop mostly, turned detective maybe but it's a very old medieval type of cop

so they don't have the normal monikers and everything.

She invented like a whole a slang language for them to use

and you can figure out what all the words mean by context.

It really adds to the world and it's really cool.

Like, "cove" means "man", just a bunch of other things,

and "dog" means "cop" which is why the books' names are Terrier, Bloodhound and Mastiff -

those are different titles that the main character gets for being really good at her job of being a "dog".

And in the last book Mastiff, the one thing that hurts my heart more than character death of someone I love

is a character I love going evil, which happens.

And I won't say much because that's a big spoiler but it really wrecked me.

And I haven't been able to read another Tamora Pierce book since.

I really should try to get back into it because I enjoyed them so much.

I think I'll start with First Test at some point,

which is the first book of the Protector of the Small series.

I've always been able to read it like a bunch of times in a row because I never get tired of it.

So that would probably be the best one to start over with but ugh! It'll just remind me of what happened!

So that one I still haven't gotten over.

Maybe I'll be able to read her stuff again but I don't think I'll ever get over it.

So, thank you for watching, I hope you've enjoyed this video!

You should go check out Nicole's - it's linked below.

Oh and if you would like to do this tag I tag you!

It really did make me think a lot and made me have some ideas that I hadn't thought of before

and I think it's a really interesting one to get to know how various books have affected people so I'd love to see yours!

Thanks for watching, I'll see you in the next video - bye!
