Explanation vs self justification - Duration: 2:30.Hi!
My name is Andrei Adonis and my question to you is
What can we do, in order to challenge the status quo
on how we see ourselves and other people so that we can become better versions of ourselves?
Today's topic is What is the difference between an
EXPLANATION and SELF-JUSTIFICATION?
When are we explaining something and when are we self-justifying our actions?
The answer is rather simple!
A SELF-JUSTIFICATIONS is when we give an answer to a question that was never asked!
Let us look at some examples.
Let us say that you work in a company and you are
responsible for a project.
Scenario Nr. 1.
Your boss comes to you and says: Dear employee, I've noticed that this project
has come to a stop!
And scenario Nr. 2.
Your boss comes to you and says: Dear employee, I've noticed that this project
has come to a stop.
What has happened?
Do you see the difference?
In the first part, there is an implicit question.
Yet, the question is never asked!
So, what happens to us?
We take the psychological pressure and we feel the need to JUSTIFY our actions.
Why did the project stop...
Who is responsible for it... and What is going to happen...
Instead of doing that, we could just simply say
Yes, the project has stopped.
We are working on it and t will start next week.
If the question is asked by your boss, Why it has stopped? or What has happened?
then you can proceed to give an EXPLANATION to what has happened.
It has stopped because of such and such and such reasons
and this is what it is going to happen.
These are the actions that we are going to take.
This is the difference between an EXPLANATION
and a SELF-JUSTIFICATION.
So, I would like to invite you, in the future, not to fall in the SELF-JUSTIFICATION trap.
Wait for the question to be asked!
And if the question is not asked, ASK the question yourself.
What do you mean? or What do you want to know?

Are You Going To Wake Up From Cryosleep? - The Medical Futurist - Duration: 4:39.Cryonics has been around for more than sixty years, but recently it's been getting more
and more attention as billionaires from the Silicon Valley start to look at it as a real
possibility to cheat death.
The technology to put people into hibernation is not fictional.
Even today, we can freeze people with terminal diseases, and put them in a state of suspended
animation for an indefinite time until a cure is found…
One tiny problem though.
We're not sure if we can wake them up.
The use of cryogenic temperatures is already mainstream in healthcare.
Cryotherapy is used in an effort to relieve muscle pain, sprains and swelling after soft
tissue damage or surgery.
It's a huge advancement in healthcare, just ask any sportsmen.
But the big discovery in cryogenics still lies ahead.
It's cryo-sleep.
Cryosleep seems to be an overused trope and an easy short-cut for sci-fi films and literature.
But if we could make it work, it would really be a gamechanger — from saving terminally
ill patients, to solving one of the main problems of interstellar travels.
And there are many attempts to make it a reality.
An Atlanta based startup, Space Works Enterprises works with NASA to develop a stasis chamber.
The chamber lowers the body temperature to 32 Celsius and creates mild hypothermia.
And with multiple sessions, a chamber like that could be a huge advancement in space
travel.
But it's not suspended animation, it's only a deep sleep.
And in case we want to travel light years, we need to come up with something better.
For that, you need cryogenics.
Originally the idea was simple.
We cool down the bodies close to -200C and place them in a container of liquid nitrogen.
The first person to be cryopreserved was Dr. James Bedford in 1967.
He died of kidney cancer, but his will was to be put into a cryo-chamber, in hopes that
one day in the future, doctors will be able to bring him back.
But there is one big problem.
The trouble with cryo-sleep and cryo-preservation is that our cells are filled with water.
And when you freeze water, it expands and form crystals which irreversibly damage the
body.
The hope is that future scientists will be able to fix that and reanimate people without…
well, basically killing them.
Nevertheless, scientists of today are not sitting around either.
At Alcor, the largest cryonics organization in the world, they already use a process called
vitrification.
They replace the water in the cells with an antifreeze agent.
So when the tissues are cooled to cryogenic temperatures, instead of crystallizing into
ice, the chemicals clump together and become solid, molecularly similar to glass.
And this new glass form prevents the cells from bursting and, theoretically, holds them
in stasis forever.
It's still a completely unproven technology, and it's mostly based on hopes and dreams,
but for those who can afford it, it's at least a fighting chance.
And the number of people choosing to sign up is increasing every year.
Today there are nearly 300 cryogenically frozen people in the US and 50 in Russia.
There are even more than 30 pets at Alcor's chambers.
The irony is, unless we go under cryo-preservation, we won't live to see if it ever works.
Those who do go under… just maybe.
But as for now, as harsh as it sounds, cryo-sleep is mainly just science fiction.

Before You Vote: Be an Influencer - Duration: 3:31.This week we are talking about politics.
Yay!
If you are anything like me,
you don't necessarily want to talk about politics.
You're kind of sick of politics.
You're probably sick of the primaries.
And you're thinking the last thing I want to do
is talk about politics.
But we do not live in some kind of utopia
where we can kind of check out when it comes to politics.
We live in this world.
And what does Jesus say about living in this world?
Well, let's see what Jesus says.
On one time,
he's on a hill and he's preaching and we call it the Sermon on the Mount.
This is in Matthew, chapter 5 and this is what he says:
So, there's a couple things that Jesus is saying when he says that
you are salt and light in this world.
Number one, that you are valuable.
You can imagine at that time we got our word "salary" from "salt"
because it was so valuable at preserving things.
And he says "You are light of the world"
and you can imagine in a world where we do not have
harnessable electricity what light meant.
So you are valuable as a believer.
But what else is Jesus saying?
Jesus is saying this:
You are also
an influencer in this world.
You are salt in this dying and decaying world.
And if you're not going to do something about it, who is?
You're light in this world.
If you're not going to shine with the light of Christ
and if you're not going to proclaim
his mission and if you're not going to let people know about acceptance and love
and all the things that go with what Jesus says,
who is going to do that?
One of the ways that you do that,
dramatic pause,
is go out and vote.
Now, you might not like politics.
And it doesn't matter if you're an 18 year old at junior college
and this is your first election ever.
It doesn't matter if you're a 78 year old grandma and you've been in countless elections.
What matters is that you are salt
and light in this dark world.
And God says, "Go and be influencers."
Because you have value and you can do something about it.
Now, how you vote,
how we talk about politics,
that's what we're going to be talking about this week.
Let's pray.
Dear heavenly father,
A lot of us do not like politics.
In fact, we're sick of talking about politics.
But we want to know what you say in your word when it comes to living in this world.
We don't live away from the world.
We live in a world where we can actually do something.
We can be salt and light in this world.
And, just through our vote, and just through our advocation,
we can do something to stop
the decay in this world.
And we can shine bright with the light of Christ.
We ask that we do this every single day.
Amen.
Valerie says,
"Time of Grace has helped me become more spiritually
"mature than I could ever have thought.
"Although I still struggle a lot, I use Time of Grace to replenish my faith, strength,
"and get me back on track."
