Mixbus Processing part 2 of 3: Compression - Duration: 5:51.

Hi everybody I am Giorgio from G&L Studios and welcome to the second video of the mix

bus video series, today I am going to show you how i use my mix bus compressor.

Here we are for this second video on the mix bus processing video series, today we are

going to see my mix bus compressor, so first let's listen to the tracks with the compressor

in action then later I will show you all my settings and guide trough what I have done

with the compressor.

Ok so first of all, let's bring up the compressor.

As you can see here I have: 1.

A very slow attack 2.

A medium fast release 3.

A soft knee 4.

And the ratio is 3:1

And I am getting 1 to 2 dB, maximum 3dB of compression, so let's take a look.

Ok as you can see its very mild compression even if on other mixes i would tend to go

even lighter, but on this i really like this kind of setting.

So now, let's see on why the parameters.

Here I choose a very slow attack because I want the transients to pass trough but then

I want to control the dynamics of all the mix a little bit more.

The medium fast release it's because I want my compressor to recover often so that I am

not squashing the life out of all the mix.

Let's see the knee now, knees in compressors can be 2 types : hard or soft, on this specific

compressor you can choose how hard or soft you want it.

What difference does it make?

The softer the knee the more compression the compressor will allow before the signal has

crossed the threshold, the harder is the knee means when the signal crosses the treshold

the compressor reacts straight away, so I would say that on the soft knee you will transition

from uncompressed to compressed in a very smooth way.

I put a little bit of make up gain and i brought down the threshold until I saw this amount

of compression.

Now let's do an AB comparison.

Immediately I hear that the mix is a little bit more controlled and and a little bit more

punchy, I could use a faster release to make the mix pump a bit more and drive in a little

more excitement and a bit more pumping in the mix.

So here the key is as always go very light, this step of the mix bus processing especially,

can either benefit your mix or totally destroy it so my advice is to go on slower attack

times a bit faster release times, softer knees, lower ratios and maximum 3 dB of gain reduction.

Ok let's hear how far we have come with the EQ and the compressor I will pop them

in and out so that you can hear the process from the start.

You hear now how the mix has become more controlled, cleaner and sounds much better? these are

subtle processes that will help us save a ton of time when we go in the individual tracks

and make fine tuning because the hard work we are doing is all here, the rest on the

individual tracks is just a bit of fine tuning in the detail.

if you were to start from the individual tracks you would have much more work to do.

All of your perspectives about life and life's meaning,

take on a completely new dimension

when you come to faith in eternity.

That God is eternal.

And He has promised us; it's written in God's Word,

"He has promised us eternal life."

And of course, that has to do with one's faith.

But when you believe in eternal life,

you believe that you can win eternal life.

You believe that there is eternal glory to be won.

Then you will alter your life accordingly to your faith.

The reality of eternal life in my own life, personally,

of course has transformed my life completely.

From the earliest conception of when faith came into my heart,

that God has promised me eternal life,

that development began

and has continued throughout my whole life.

So from my early youth time until now into my older years,

I have lived actually for nothing else

except for eternity.

My life here on earth has been a life of faith.

I have placed my life into God's hands from my youth time,

which has freed me tremendously from anxiety, for example.

I haven't been anxious for the future.

I haven't been anxious for money.

I haven't been anxious for a career.

I haven't been anxious for how I am going to pay my bills,

or take care of my family or all such things.

The reality of eternal life,

the reality that I belong to God,

that I've given my life over to Him,

and [what] He has undertaken for me in life,

has made it for me so I have lived an incredibly restful, peaceful life.

I haven't always had joy that nothing could shake,

but I have come to a joy that nothing has been able to shake.

I live an incredibly happy life.

I don't have any unhappy days.

I haven't for as long as I can remember!

Everyday I've been happy.

Happy means not jumping around and giggling in that way; maybe a few of those days, but

a deep satisfaction within me.

So satisfied. So satisfied.

With everything, with everyone. Of course I am tempted.

Earlier on, of course, tempted much more than I am today.

When things go against you, so to speak,

when things don't go the way you expected them to go,

then of course you're tempted to anxiety,

or you can be tempted to complain,

tempted to murmur about things.

But the gospel is much much stronger than those temptations.

That faith that everything is in God's hands.

Everything is being guided in a perfect way.

As it's written for example in Romans 8:28,

that absolutely everything is working together for my very best.

Nobody can be dissatisfied with the very best.

It's simply not possible.

You're dissatisfied because you don't really believe that it's the very best.

But when you come to faith for it,

that it's absolutely the very best –

every individual that comes across your way,

absolutely the very best.

Planned perfectly.

All situations. Your health or lack thereof.

Your car breaks down or it runs fine.

People are nice to you or they're not nice to you.

Money comes in or it doesn't come in.

Whatever the circumstances, when you come to faith

that absolutely everything is the very best,

then you cannot but be satisfied.

But yet, we have to come to faith for it.

That's the point.

And by God's tremendous grace I have come to faith for it.

And I've lived that reality for many years.

So, the benefits of eternity? I would love to recommend it to every person.

I hope some will see this interview some day

and be able to listen to my testimony and

in some way be affected by it because I would so love to be able to

impart faith into every single heart for the benefits of living a Christian life.

They're overwhelming. Absolutely overwhelming.

To live this life that Jesus first of all lived

and has given us faith to live in the same way –

there is no other life close to it!

There is no other life that anybody would choose if they could just come to faith in this life

because it's the life which God intended for us from the beginning.

And God is the God of all happiness.

He is a blessed God.

There is nothing outside of God which isn't blessed.

His whole entire being is filled with blessedness.

He has no other longing than to be able to bless

all those who will put their confidence and trust in Him.

And when you do, then you experience that blessing just flows and flows and flows,

into your life and then little by little it can also flow out from your life.

So the benefits of being a Christian,

they're unspeakably great.

Unspeakably great.

And I could wish with all my heart that every person had it the way I have it.
