so he's been all over the country

so he undersood GA

the people were saying..

''let's just give him the injection''

and when he looked at them

some people just tear it off

yea

I used 8 boxes..

none of them had coupons on them..

oh, ok

but when they ring them up at the register..

yea

but some people just take it off then go somewhere else

you can't find a cheaper price somewhere else

I don't know how long...

the coupon will last until the end of the year

Bill?

your name is Bill?

huh?

your name is Bill?

yea

Oh, Bill?

OK

Vietnam, Chinese?

Chinese

((MANDARIN)) You are..

it's your English name

Engish name, yea..

((MANDARIN)) You...

everybody comes over here..have an easy name

like those Indian people from India?

yea

wow, their names...

long name

18 characters...

even the first name..

I have a co-worker

we had to chop his first name

hahahhahahha

and keep the first 4 letters

wow

they should. Waste a lot of paper?

yea

in the library when they reserve books

they would be like ''wow, your name is long''

yea, it's hard

((MANDARIN)) You're Chinese?

huh?

((MANDARIN)) Are you Chinese?

((MANDARIN)) You know how to speak Mandarin?

hahahhaa

((MANDARIN)) Speak Mandarin

((MANDARIN)) We can use Chinese to speak..

((MANDARIN)) Use Chinese to speak..

((MANDARIN)) Use Mandarin to chat a bit..

hahahhahaha

((MANDARIN)) Chat a bit

where did you learn that?

((MANDARIN)) Speak Chinese. You can speak Chinese with me

you learned it in school?

((MANDARIN)) Speak Chinese

((MANDARIN)) You can speak Chinese with me

((MANDARIN)) I will understand what you're saying

((MANDARIN)) Speak Chinese..

((MANDARIN)) Right

((SPANISH)) Speak Spanish

((SPANISH)) Spanish?

((MANDARIN)) Spanish

yea

((SPANISH)) I speak..

((SPEAK)) In that case, if you speak Spanish, I speak Spanish too

hahahhahaha

((SPANISH)) Then we can use Spanish to speak

((SPANISH)) To chat it up here..

I learned 6 months of Spanish..

then I quit..because...

verbs..

((MANDARIN)) Verbs

((MANDARIN)) Verbs

very hard

((MANDARIN)) But I think if you already speak English, learning Spanish wouldn't be a problem

((MANDARIN)) The grammar..

((MANDARIN)) The verbs..

each one has 16 different forms

((MANDARIN)) Right, right..

((MANDARIN)) You're right to me it looks like different words..

((MANDARIN)) I agree

((MANDARIN)) different words

((MANDARIN)) Chinese doesn't have this problem

((MANDARIN)) No..

((MANDARIN)) No,no...

((MANDARIN)) ''I hit you, hit her, hit him''

hahahhaahhaaahaha

((MANDARIN)) Which part of China do you come from?

Taiwan

Oh, Taiwan?

yea

((MANDARIN)) Really?

a lot of foreigners went to Taiwan to learn Chinese

((MANDARIN)) Right, right..

((MANDARIN)) I know. There's a lot of..

where did you learn?

you haven't told me yet

((MANDARIN)) I'm self-taught

((MANDARIN)) You're self-taught?

((MANDARIN)) You're a Genius

((MANDARIN)) Genious? No, way..

((MANDARIN)) Korean

((MANDARIN)) Cantonese

hahahahhahaha

hey

you're never confused?

how do you say ''Zaijian'' in Spanish?

''Adios''

''A pronto''

((MANDARIN)) You can also say 'A pronto' ''See you soon''

((JAPANESE)) Goodbye

you never confuse all of this?

((MANDARIN)) It wouldn't make me confused

hahahhaha

((MANDARIN)) It wouldn't...

((MANDARIN)) Because I am a...

((MANDARIN)) How do you say it...

((MANDARIN)) You're a genious

((MANDARIN)) Language Pro

((MANDARIN)) Language Pro

((MANDARIN)) Right. Language Pro

((MANDARIN)) My wife is from Taiwan

see...that's what I say...

best way to learn Chinese

((MANDARIN)) You see...no, you see..

((MANDARIN)) This isn't my reason for learning Chinese

((MANDARIN)) Because I already knew how to speak Chinese before I met her

((MANDARIN)) But of course..

((MANDARIN)) I've already been with her for more than 10 years so....

((MANDARIN)) I've learned a lot of things..

((MANDARIN)) For example...idioms.....for example...

((MANDARIN)) There's a lot of idioms

((MANDARIN)) Right

((MANDARIN)) They are very good to use

((MANDARIN)) Yes, very good to use...

((MANDARIN)) After you try and translate into English...

then you'll be lost in translation..

((MANDARIN)) Right,right,right...

((MANDARIN)) Has very deep meanings

there's a story behind it..

((MANDARIN)) Right

there's a history

((MANDARIN)) A very long story

in English though...

((MANDARIN)) You can't..it's impossible..

lost in translation..

((MANDARIN)) For example, that story called...

((MANDARIN)) ''Waiting for the rabbit by the tree trunk''

ahahahhahahhahaha

((MANDARIN)) There's a long story

the best one is Maodun ''Contradiction''

He said ''I have the best shield''

then he also said ''I have the best spear''

((MANDARIN)) Right

that's contradicting...

((MANDARIN)) I'm very familiar with this one

((MANDARIN)) ''The frog at the bottom of the well''

hahahaha

yea, we have a lot of them. Maodun is good..

***I WAS TRYING TO RECALL THE FULL IDIOM***

((MANDARIN)) How do you say it. I forgot how to say it..

((MANDARIN)) There's 4 characters..

((MANDARIN)) There's a story because I read it a long time ago

((MANDARIN)) Nice to meet you

hahahahhahahaha

my daughter is Chinese. She doesn't know any Chinese

((MANDARIN)) It must be because she was born here

yea

((MANDARIN)) That's too bad

((MANDARIN)) But I don't think it's too late

if she knew Chinese she could go to China and...

((MANDARIN)) I actually should've used 'GOUTONG'. ''Communicate instead

or have a business there..

((MANDARIN)) Right

((MANDARIN)) How old is she?

((MANDARIN)) 30?

((MANDARIN)) 34

((MANDARIN)) 34?

((MANDARIN)) Being able to speak Chinese is very useful

((MANDARIN)) You can speak Spanish, Chinese...very useful

((TAIWANESE)) Can you speak Taiwanese?

((MANDARIN)) Cantonese

((TAIWANESE)) Taiwanese

((TAIWANESE)) Have you eaten yet?

((TAIWANESE)) You slept yet?

((MANDARIN)) Taiwanese?

((MANDARIN)) Taiwanese

((MANDARIN)) I know how to speak Taiwanese

hahahahha

((TAIWANESE)) Because my wife is from Taiwan

hahahahhahaha

((MANDARIN)) OK,OK...

hahahahhahaha

((MANDARIN)) I don't mean to make you lose face

((MANDARIN)) You didn't lose face?

((MANDARIN)) My name is mouse

((MANDARIN)) I lived in Taiwan..

20 years

((MANDARIN)) 20 years

((MANDARIN)) But you know in Taiwan you have those..what do you call them.. ((MANDARIN)) There are people who are called 'Waisheng'

((MANDARIN)) Your wife is Taiwanese? ((MANDARIN)) born outside of Taiwan

((MANDARIN)) Right

((MANDARIN)) She speaks Taiwanese, Mandarin,Japanese, English..

((MANDARIN)) Taiwanese good or not good with waisheng ren?

((MANDARIN)) Right

((MANDARIN)) My wife is a local person

((MANDARIN)) So, she can speak....

((MANDARIN)) Sorry, I meant originally born

((MANDARIN)) Came from Mainland China

((MANDARIN)) Right

((MANDARIN)) The waisheng people can't speak Taiwanese

((MANDARIN)) There's some that can

((MANDARIN)) Some..

((MANDARIN)) when we were young, if our neighbors are Taiwanese...

((MANDARIN)) then..

((MANDARIN)) Able to speak, right..

((MANDARIN)) OK. Nice to meet you

((MANDARIN)) OK

((SOMALI)) At home?

((SOMALI)) Can you read Somali?

((SOMALI)) Can I read?

((ARABIC)) Peace

((SOMALI)) Nice to meet you

((SOMALI)) Nice to met you

((SOMALI)) Where are you from?

((SOMALI)) Me..

((SOMALI)) Mogadishu?

Kismayo

oh, Kismayo

((SOMALI)) I know

I was born in Kismayo

so, state to state.

hahahhahha

**WHAT HAVE WE GOT HERE**

hey, do you know if this is on sale?

this is a sale price?

oh yes..

this is the sale price?

yea

is it two for one...

good price..

good price, right?

I don't know. Which one is the best...

is it for men?

oh yes

this one's for men

yes

OK

hahahhahhaha

Vietnam?

is this for men?

Nah, I think that one's for women

that might be for women,yea..

hahhaha

this one's or men

yea

you're from Vietnam?

huh?

Vietnam?

no

oh, Cambodia?

yea

oh, Cambodia?

Cambodia

((KHMER)) Hello

that's men's too

yea

I might get this one, I don't know..

I ask you because I study different languages

that's why I was wondering if you were from Vietnam or Cambodia

oh, that's good

Cambodia?

no

no?

one more guess..

Panama

oh, you're from Panama,too?

yea

((SPANISH)) Then you speak Spanish?

((SPANISH)) Yes

((SPANISH)) I apologize

((SPANISH)) I believed that you were from Asia

oh

((SPANISH)) I want to know because what I'm learning are Asian languages

((SPANISH)) You seemed to be from Asia

yea

((SPANISH)) Yes. Many are the same..

((SPANISH)) The same

((SPANISH)) Yes

((SPANISH)) I'm sorry

hahahhaha

No problem

((SPANISH)) Your Spanish is good

((SPANISH)) It's good?

((SPANISH)) It's....

hahhahhahahhaha

((SPANISH)) **I studied Spanish for a year** is what I should've said

((SPANISH)) But lately, I haven't had very many opportunities

((SPANISH)) Accent

((SPANISH)) Accent?

((SPANISH)) My accent?

no

((SPANISH)) What do you mean?

((SPANISH)) The vocabulary has accents

((SPANISH)) Yes

((SPANISH)) How to say it..

((SPANISH)) The vocabulary word with the accent

((SPANISH)) Yes

((SPANISH)) Like mamA

((SPANISH)) The a has an accent over it

((SPANISH)) Yes

((SPANISH)) If there isn't an accent then you say Mama

((SPANISH)) If there's no accent, you would say Mama

((SPANISH)) But with the accent, you say MamA

((SPANISH)) I got it

((SPANISH)) Like PapA

((SPANISH) If there's no accent, then you will say PapA

((SPANISH)) It isn't the same

((SPANISH)) That makes sense

((SPANISH)) It doesn't make sense

((SPANISH)) It doesn't make sense?

hahhahahhahahhaha

((SPANISH)) Because papa is a food..

((SPANISH)) for eating

((SPANISH)) Oh, it's food?

((SPANISH)) Have you seen a papa?

Papaya?

Potato

oh,OK

potato

((SPANISH))In Spanish it's Papa

((SPANISH)) But if you put the accent on it, it willbe PapA

((SPANISH)) That's father

((SPANISH)) Father,yes

((SPANISH)) I understand

((SPANISH)) But if you don't put on the accent, you would say Papa

((SPANISH)) It's different

((SPANISH)) It's different, yes..

((SPANISH)) I agree

hahahhaha

((SPANISH)) Nice to meet you

((SPANISH)) There aren't any accents in English

((SPANISH)) No there isn't..

((SPANISH)) None

((SPANISH)) Like the word maNYAna.

((SPANISH)) The NYA doesn't exist

((SPANISH)) But English doesn't need to use it

((SPANISH)) No, it doesn't need it

((SPANISH))No accents in English

((SPANISH)) Therefore..there's no accent in English

((SPANISH)) Therefore, you think English is easier than Spanish?

hahahhahahhaha

((SPANISH)) Because in English, the words don't have a lot of things/meanings

((SPANISH)) Yes

((SPANISH)) But in Spanish, different words..different letters..

((SPANISH)) right?

((SPANISH)) Right

((SPANISH)) But English..there's a lot of things..

((SPANISH)) The pronunciation is also a bit different

((SPANISH)) Yes, the pronunciation is very...

((SPANISH)) Like..door

((SPANISH)) The o is...

((SPANISH)) Sometimes pronunciation of the letters is close

((SPANISH)) Very interesting

((SPANISH)) Languages are very interesting to learn

((SPANISH)) Which languages do you speak?

((SPANISH)) English and Spanish

((SPANISH)) That's it?

((SPANISH)) Yes

oh,OK

((SPANISH)) Alright

((SPANISH)) You?

((SPANISH)) I speak a lot of other languages

((SPANISH)) Chinese, Japanese...

((KOREAN)) Greetings

hahahhahahhahahahah

((KOREAN)) Thank you

((KOREAN)) Thank you

((SPANISH)) Korean?

((SPANISH)) Korean

((SPANISH)) 'Kamsahamnida' is thank you very much

((SPANISH)) Korean

((SPANISH)) Yes

((SPANISH)) OK. I have to go now

((SPANISH)) Thanks a lot for helping me

((SPANISH)) Thank you

((SPANISH)) Have a good day

((SPANISH)) Thank you. Same to you

((SPANISH)) Same to you

How to Choose A Triathlon - Duration: 10:18.

- I would love to have a race that the trainiacs

just swoop in and descend on.

Start dialing me in a plan, buddy.

Morning, trainiacs.

So, long swim is over, body's actually not feeling

too bad and as I mentioned before, one of the ways

that I stay motivated to keep training

is to always have a next goal in mind and historically,

I've always found if I don't have a goal in mind,

it's really hard for me to get out the habit

of daily training, and it's that daily training

that makes you faster.

When you accumulate little bits of workload

over the course of years and years, that's when

you get fast.

You think about Coach Pat, the guy has done

consistently day in and day out, one or two a day

for like two decades.

And yeah, he does have some really big days

and some really big training weeks and weekends

here and there, but it's that consistency over a long

period of time that makes you fast.

So in my case, what I wanna do right now

is not even let myself get into that mode

of like ah, you know what?

I just did the big swim on the weekend, and maybe

I'll just kinda mess around and not take training

too seriously.

We're right smack dab in the middle of the summer in 2017

and there's no reason for me to not be training

really hard, having a next race in mind.

So what I wanna talk about today is how to pick

that next race because I've gotta pick that next race.

First and foremost, you gotta decide what distance

you wanna do.

I always recommend that people stick to

the longest distance that they can do while still

being able to race it, and what I mean by that

is what is the longest distance you can do

while still maintaining some speed and not just

surviving the race?

In the first couple years of triathlon,

I bounced back and fourth between sprint and Olympic

and what I would find is that around the sprint distance,

I could still maintain some speed and go fairly hard,

but as soon as I got up to Olympic I would have major

energy crashes because I didn't really know

what I was doing and I didn't have a base of fitness

that was big enough to conquer that Olympic.

So what I did was for two or three years,

I went back down to the sprint distance.

I was just able to focus on racing and training

to race that distance race really well.

And what happens is because I'm not having blowups

when I got out into the sprint distance race,

I was able to race it really well, I was able to train

really purposefully, I was able to learn

how my body needed to train and how to race really well.

It was that decision to focus on only the longest distance

race that I could possibly race that I became

a good triathlete.

I would say better triathlete.

And then what happened is after about three seasons,

because I knew my body so well, I was able to step up

from sprint where I was doing about a 1:07 sprint distance

race to Olympic where in the first Olympic race

that I did in four years, I did it 2:14.

I was able to hold the exact pace that I was racing at

in the sprint.

The very next year, I moved up to half iron man

and that was about how long I figured I could actually

race a race, and what I found is in the two half iron mans

that I've done I did 4:46 and then 5:02

in the crazy heat of Campeche, I'm kind of still able

to race them but there's still that aspect

of just holding on.

Still just on the edge of being a little bit

more in control of me than I am of it.

And that's the determinant for am I ready to move up?

Okay, so that's how you pick the distance.

The next determinant of how to pick a race,

do you go local and something easy to get to

or do you go to a destination race,

and the way that I look at that is you can't have

too many big races in a year.

You get maybe two or three really big races in a year,

and to prepare for those, you need

around three to five months.

So if you're going for just like a filler race

that you're gonna train through, by all means,

make it a shorter race, make it a local race.

But if you're looking at having that key race

that you wanna really drop it like it's hot out,

make it a destination race, make it a big event,

make it something that like I say is that little bit

scary and it's your focus to keep you motivated.

So what I'm planning on right now is I want

about four to five months from the long swim right now

until my next big race.

In between then, I might go and do some local races

and just kinda kick around and enter them a few days

ahead of time, but what we're picking right now

that I'm gonna pick with the help of all of you trainiacs,

is the next race.

Let's go do this with a schedule in front of us.

So we're talking half iron man towards the end

of October, early November, ideally somewhere

in North America so that I can use my flying points.

Let's go to the iron man official website

and see where that puts us.

Ooh, we've got North Carolina on October 21st,

we've got Miami on October 22nd, we've got New Orleans

on October 22nd, Austin October 29th,

and Las Cabos in Mexico, November 12th.

Over on the challenge family, Challenge Aruba

on October 22nd, Challenge Florianopolis,

oddly enough in Brazil.

That sounds very like a Greek place.

So those right now are the main contenders.

What I would like all of you trainiacs to do

is I would love to have a race that the trainiacs

just swoop in and descend on.

Of all of those races, comment below

if there's one that you think that you might

be able to go to.

If there's one that is overwhelmingly trainiac heavy

that's easy for everyone to get to,

we should go in and drop kick a race, how about that, hm?

Or if there's a race that is a half iron man distance

around that end of October, beginning of November

timeframe that I don't know about that is close

to a bunch of you, put that in the comments below

and let's get some planning together

to have a race that a bunch of trainiacs descend upon.

Maybe we do some pre-race training together?

I'm liking where this idea's going.

I am liking it a lot.

Yeah, let's start talking about this right now

and doing some planning because it's enough

of a ways away that everyone has time

to do some training and get a program going

where you've got enough time to build up fitness

and start getting prepared for a race

and I am antsy to start training.

Body isn't feeling that bad from a long swim.

On the ride this morning, it was an awesome ride.

Huge group, we're talking like 19 people

which is getting big when we start getting up

into like high 20s that's where the group maxes out,

so we're not far away from there.

- Woohoo swim away!

- Hey, well done, Taren.

- I almost saw a forearm because it was warm enough

for people to not have to bundle up this morning

and the body wasn't feeling too bad.

I was able to hang in with the front group

and do some sprints, do some lead outs.

Granted when I tried to push it from that kinda high gear

to boom, sprinting, I didn't have much there,

but I feel at least good enough

that I can start seeing light at the end of the tunnel

that I can say Pat, start dialing me in a plan, buddy.

In addition to that, by the time you see this,

tomorrow there'll be a grand total of about eight hours

that the open discount of 20% any and all

coaching plans at triathlontaren.com/coaching,

so if you go there and you wanna get a plan,

it's gonna be closed at the end of Friday,

June 29th, and type in trainiacs20 and you get 20% off.

There you go, to work.

Ooh, it's almost lunchtime, delicious.

Hey trainiacs, you know, I was just thinking

on the ride home here about getting into

an actual training program for half iron man,

and you know, I am psyched about it.

I am way, way, way psyched about it,

so psyched that I'm saying way, way psyched

like I'm 13 years old.

Way psyched, just radical.

(static sounds)

Man, it's raining, gotta cover you up.

Cause you're weather sealed, but you're not weatherproof.

I mean the thing about the long swim is that

it's fun and all to have this big crazy goal,

but it's a little bit tedious.

I'm sure you felt that, that every morning

it was like groundhog day, I was starting in the pool.

And your swimming gets slower because

90% of your swimming is done at 37k race pace.

Your running gets slower because you can't run that much,

biking gets slower because I couldn't bike that much,

and I'm really looking forward to having a nice structured

plan that Pat lays out for me, and I smash myself,

hop back on that pain train, and see what I can make

my body do.

So I'm jazzed up for it and hopefully we can do

a race that a bunch of us go for, and if a bunch of you

are also doing one of the coaching plans,

have that as a team goal that we're all doing

all around the world then we converge together

and we just fricken nail it.

Man, that would be so exciting.

Alright, this rain is getting ridiculous.

Let's go inside, later trainiacs.

You have a good day.

Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve - Great Parks of Hamilton County - Duration: 1:11.

It's important to teach people about nature

because you only care about what you know about.

[Right there!]

If you never have the opportunity to touch a snake for the first time.

If you don't ever walk a trail.

If you never come eye to eye with a frog.

Why should you care about it?

Here at Farbach-Werner we like to get people engaged

with nature from the different programs we do.

You know, just to get people that real connection of

actually being a part of nature and touching nature.

That gets people excited!

They can see a bird of prey and get that feeling of awe.

The younger you can learn that being out in nature is very calming; it's very healthy.

It sticks with you and you can pass it on.

Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve is a happy place.

Oil Painting Exercise Three: Landscape, Part One - Duration: 9:48.

(Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons' plays to:20)

OK here we are ready to start our second (third!) painting. And I think I told you

earlier that we paint everything the same.

It's really immaterial whether it's a house, a tree, or a person.

It even doesn't matter if it's an actual thing or if it's air, like I told you, negative space.

The shape of it, the value of it, the color of it becomes (as) important to us

as the actual thing we're painting.

So we're looking at a white canvas here.

I very lightly indicated more or less where everything will go,

because, as you know, you don't get a lot of help with this first pencil drawing,

so don't waste a lot of time doing it.

OK..first step.

Oh, I did want to mention, you can see when I was leaving my studio in Los Angeles earlier,

I shot a picture of this green tree, because it shows us very nice(ly)

the difference between the light and the dark.

But this little banner here,

I'm sure you know, if you don't like it, don't paint it, leave it out!

So I think we'll be leaving out that banner, just looking at the rest of the painting.

OK, first step, same as before.

It's "kill the white".

And..in this case we're going to do things a little differently,

because you see, we have a sky here.

That's just exactly like that sky blend I did earlier.

So it will be advantageous for us here, to start with the liquid white.

[Mixes paints to 2:14]

So... the liquid white step, what we do is we take this really wet..

fast matte (titanium) white, thin it down with both the Neo-Medgilp..and.. a little bit of Gamsol.

And you know, we're not going to be doing this blend over the whole painting,

so you don't really need to under white the whole thing.

Uh oh... let's see a little of that white was adulterated with pencil. That's OK though.

Get rid of it.

OK so we're ready to do the blue sky blend, just like the one in the sample.

So I hope you had a chance to see that.

Start with a stronger blue at the top.

It's thin, it's a glaze. We apply it with a scrub just like before.

I'm going to use this time.. let's do.. our other blue.

Let's do.. our Manganese Blue Hue...

let's.. uh.. well it is the right family, just as it is.

Let's see what that looks like.

Actually a bigger brush would be helpful.

Let's see what we got.

Yeah that looks good, we just don't have near enough of it,

so I'm going to come back and get more.

Beginners have a tendency to not add paint often enough.

You know there's not really a whole lot paint left on the brush but you scrub away anyway.

It's a much better idea to really go back, fill up your brush as much and as often as you need to,

to help ensure that you get those strong glazes, not anemic,

those strong, clean glazes that are really beautiful.

So, you know I'm not worried about the left side of this blend as you can see,

because it's not sky, it's (going to be a) tree.

But I think my, you know, my blend is a little anemic.

Yeah, I'm going to come back and add another hit of Manganese Blue Hue and you want to remember,

it needs to be slightly darker than the wet paint underneath..or it won't stick.

So that's working out fine...

Ugh, got an eyelash in there it looks like,

you gotta pull these out the minute you see them,

because they really can wreck a nice blend.

They really wreck a nice blend.

Hard, they are hard to get out.

I mean it looks like it's a bristle of the brush.

OK, here we go.

OK and you know the next step.

You want to kind of smooth it down, with whatever we're using for a blender.

I've gotten in a habit of using my hand, my finger, but you can also use a clean, dry brush.

You know it's really not so bad that I use my hands to do that blend, because all the colors that I use ,

that are put out by Gamblin...

will not penetrate healthy skin.

In other words, this particular company that I use doesn't …sell any paint with lead in it.

So I just make sure to not eat or drink.. at my seat.

And oil paint can easily be washed off your skin with soap and water.

Don't dip your hand in Gamsol.

We spend a lot of money trying to keep our hands moist.

And Gamsol will just dry them out.

So soap and water will do it.

OK there we go. There we've got a nice enough start-- sky blend-- to move on to our next step.

Remember the hallmark of a glaze blend is we don't see brush strokes.

I may add another little strong zip of blue while I have the blue brush.

Maybe I'll do an... let's get it up there quick.. more...

There. That … that makes me happier.

(paints to 6:47)

Now you have..you know I think it's at least an hour, an hour and a half,

to mess around and perfect your blend.

But do be careful. If the paint you put on top

is not thicker than what's underneath,

you'll find you dig a hole in your blend, in the very spot you were trying to add pigment.

So work it and then try to leave it alone, as quick as possible.

OK so if you recall, our second step is blocking in with a paper towel

where our lighter values will go.

So I just want to kill all this white before we move to that step.

So I'm going to do the area here.

I think I'll just pick... well we did the sky...

I'm just going to pick a cool color because when I look at the shadow area of that tree,

I definitely see coolness.

So I'm going to mix a blue.

But it's not like a really... pretty blue that shadow.

It looks like it's ever so slightly dulled, so I'm going to add in this case,

just a touch of that Transparent Red Earth.

It dulls your blue because it's a warm color.

In other words, a contrasting color when you mix them together.

They dull each other.

So there's a nice dull blue.

Let's test it.

Oops that's pretty thick, I think I better thin that down a little bit,

because it's not a glaze, if I can't ultimately see through it.

OK then just get rid of.. kind of going to go up here into the sky

and kind of nail down a tree-like silhouette.

And then down here, just going to kill the white so we have something to work on.

(paints to 8:50)

OK.

Soften it ever so slightly.

(paints to 9:03)

Be a little more careful here where it hits the..OK.

Looks like I missed a big chunk of it.

(paints to 9:27)

It's pretty loose...plenty of time to make corrections.

But we're sort of getting a feel for where everything's going to go.

OK..I'm going to stop right there.

(Continued in Part 2)
