Rocky Marciano: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

that Floyd Mayweather beat Conor McGregor on August 26, he has surpassed Rocky Marciano's perfect 49-0 record. Marciano, held the World Heavyweight Title from 1952 to 1956, is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers in history.

Marciano was born in Bockton, Massachusetts in September 1923 and died in a plane crash on August 31, 1969. He was only 45 years old and fought his last fight in 1955.

Marciano was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame. In 2015, Jeremy Renner signed on to star as Marciano in a movie about his career.

Here's what you need to know about Marciano and what the Marciano family thinks about Mayweather. Marciano's Brother Calls Mayweather's Fight With McGregor an 'Exhibition' & Doesn't Think it Should Count Towards the Record.

Peter Marciano, Marciano's brother, told CBS Boston on August 25 that he thinks the McGregor-Maywether fight is an "exhibition. " After all, Mayweather hasn't fought in two years and McGregor has never fought in a professional boxing match before.

"Well obviously, I'm probably prejudiced, sure I am," Peter told CBS Boston. "But if you looked at it in the right way, it's the first time this man is stepping in the ring to be a boxer.

Peter said he is rooting for McGregor, but thinks Mayweather will win. "He's gonna break my brother's record. He's gonna break it but he's not a heavyweight," Peter noted.

Indeed, the 40-year-old Mayweather has only fought in the super featherweight, lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight and light middleweight classes. Only 6 of Marciano's 49 Wins Were By Decision.

What makes Marciano's record even more impressive is that 43 were by knockout and just six were by decision. That's an 87.75 knockout-to-win percentage. That's the sixth-best in history. Five of the by-decision wins were by unanimous decision.

As SB Nation notes, the only win on Marciano's record that came in a split decision was his bout against Roland La Starza on March 24, 1950. Amazingly, La Starza was also undefeated going into the match, with a 32-0 record.

Marciano retired in April 1956 at age 32. His last fight was against Archie Moore on September 21, 1955 at Yankee Stadium. He won with a knockout and kept his World Heavyweight title.

In 1969, Marciano & Muhammad Ali Were Filmed Sparring for a Computer Simulated Match.

Since Marciano had given up on making a comeback in the late 1950s, he never faced Muhammad Ali in a real boxing match. However, as The Guardian noted in November 2012, Marciano 'fought' Ali in a Miami gym.

They filmed a sparring match, which was then edited to match the results from a computer simulation of how the two would have matched up in their primes.

The idea came from Miami advertising executive Murry Woroner, who first played with the idea as radio plays. Titled The Super Fight: Marciano vs. Ali, the two began filming after they were guaranteed a cut of the profits.

Marciano had to lose over 50 pounds and wear a toupee so he would look like he did during the prime of his career. On January 20, 1970, the fight was shown in movie theaters.

Americans and Canadians saw the version were Marciano knocks out Ali, while European audiences saw Ali knock out Marciano.

According to the Guardian, at one point during filming, Ali knocked off Marciano's toupee. Marciano called for the cameraman to stop filming so he could fix it.

His friends told him that Ali just did it by accident, but Marciano was very serious about it.

"Rock was really upright about the toupee," Ali's trainer, Angelo Dundee, told the Guardian. "He had this guy in New York that made his toupees. I remember when he got the first one. Mingia! It was terrible.

It looked like a dead cat. I said, 'Rocky, watch out. The thing might get up and run away.".

Since Marciano died just three weeks after filming, his reaction to the fight is unknown. But The Guardian notes that Ali was ashamed by it after seeing it in Philadelphia.

Marciano Died on the Eve of His 46th Birthday in a Plane Crash. "The Brockton Blockbuster" died on the eve of his 46th Birthday in a plane cash on August 31, 1969.

Accordign to Check-Six.com, Marciano left Midway Airport in Chicago on a 1967 green and white Cessna 172 headed to Des Moines, where he was going to give a speech to help a friend's son and go to a surprise birthday party.

The other passenger of the plane was Frankie Farrell, a 28-year-old whose father was a friend of Marciano's.

The pilot, Glenn Belz, was inexperienced and ignored storm warnings. Since he wasn't certified to fly at night, he tried to land at a small airfield near Newton, Iowa.

Belz hit a tree two miles short of the runway and all three people in the plane were killed on impact. Marciano's wife Barbara Cousins died five days after her husband from lung cancer. She was 46 years old.

The World Boxing Council Gifted Brockton a 2-Ton Marciano Statue, Which Stands Outside Brockton High School.

Marciano is still a beloved figure in Brockton, and one of the reasons why the city is known as "The City of Champions." In September 2012, the city and the World Boxing Council finally unveiled a statue in Champion Park on the Brockton High School grounds.

The statue stands 20 feet and weights two tons. The statue spent a long time in the works, as residents and officials tried to figure out where it was best to put it.

In 2008, some residents told the Brockton Enterprise that it should have been put in City Hall Plaza. The WBC at first wanted to put the statue in Boston, but the Bring Rocky Home campaign successfully convinced the organization otherwise.

There is also a Marciano statue in Ripa Teatina, Italy, since that's where Marciano's father was born. Marciano was born Rocco Francis Marchegiano and served in World War II.

school student is in custody after multiple people were shot inside of a library in New Mexico. The person in custody is high school sophomore Nathaniel Jouett, 16.

The horror unfolded inside of the Clovis-Carver Library at around 4 p.m. local time on August 28. The town of Clovis is the eastern part of New Mexico, close to the Texas border. It is 200 miles east of Albuquerque.

Initially, it has been reported that six people were shot in the library, two of those people have died. Four women were shot and two men, both of the fatalities were women.

The have been named as librarians Krissie Carter, 48, and Wanda Walters, 61. Here's what you need to know:. Hours Before the Shooting, Jouett's Girlfriend Wrote About the Suspect: 'Luckiest Girl Alive… Thank You for Being in My Life.

Less than 24 hours before the shooting, Jouett's girlfriend posted photos of the couple together.

In the captions, the girlfriend wrote that she was the, "Luckiest girl alive… Thank you for everything you do and thank you for being in my life." Jouett wrote, "Thank you" accompanied by a love heart.

His girlfriend includes Jouett's last name as her last name on Facebook. The couple has been together since May 2017.

On August 24, Jouett's girlfriend posted a meme to her page that read, "My goal in a relationship is to help my man become a better person, keep him out of trouble and show him things about himself he never realized.

Another friend, Bonetta Hutson, told the Albuquerque Business Journal, "I know last week… he was jumped in a bathroom. And then he got into a fight on Friday and was suspended for two days.". Jouett Was Suicidal According to His Pastor.

In an interview with the Albuquerque Business Journal, pastor at the Living Word Church of God, David Stevens, who is also Jouett's girlfriend's father, said that on August 27, Jouett had leave Sunday school due to an anxiety attack.

Stevens said that the fight at school had "upset" Jouett. Stevens said, "He said he tried to avoid it. He knew that's not what he was supposed to be doing.".

Stevens said that it was his daughter who brought Jouett into the church.

During their relationship Stevens said that Jouett, during phone conversations, would lay "with a gun at his side and a suicide note in his pocket." Stevens added that Jouett had a "very hard life" and was "making positive strides" having joined the church in May 2017.

According to a post on Jouett's stepmother, Nicole Jouett's, Facebook page, Jouett went missing on July 18. His father, Chris, commented on the thread that his son was found on July 19.

Jouett's girlfriend wrote on Facebook when he was found, "Thank you everyone how prayed and searched for Nathan he has come home safe. Really blessed he wasn't hurt thank you God for keeping him safe through the night.".

Chris Jouett remarried in 2009. Jouett's mother is Jessica Reynolds, maiden name Romero. She is now married to a woman. Stevens told KOB4 that Jouett's childhood had been "at times even abusive, childhood.".

Jouett Became Addicted to Meth at 13.

Speaking to KOB4, one of Jouett's family members said that the suspect has battled a meth addiction since he was 13. Pastor Stevens said that he had spoken to Jouett about his drug issues, according to KOB4.

Stevens also told the station, "I'm blown away. I'm blown away by him snapping and doing something like this. And something had to snap within him. He had all kinds of plans and ideas to help us at the church.".

A source told Heavy.com that Jouett was suspended from school for fighting at a pep rally on the Friday before the shooting.

That same person, who is a verifiable friend of Jouett's, said that in recent times the suspect had been involved in drugs, primarily weed. The source said that she and Jouett's girlfriend would "try to keep him out of trouble.".

The Associated Press reports that no motive has been made public for the shooting. Clovis City Commissioner Juan Garza told the agency that the shooting is a "tragedy" and asked for prayers for the victims.

Interim City Manager Tom Phelps has said that two people were killed, reports the Eastern New Mexico News. Phelps added that Jouett was taken into custody without incident.

A woman who was in the library at the time of the shooting, Vanessa Aguirre, told the Eastern New Mexico News, "It all happened so fast. We took off fast.

My purse is still in the there." Aguirre added that she didn't see if anyone had been shot. Aguirre believed the gunman was armed with a handgun.

Authorities later said that the suspect was armed with two guns. The ATF is assisting local officers in the investigation. The Eastern New Mexico News reports that victims were taken to Clovis Municipal Airport before being airlifted to Lubbock, Texas.

A border town with Texas, Clovis is known as the home of Cannon Air Force Base. The base is around 7 miles southwest of the center of town and is the home of the 27th Special Operations Wing.

The studio was used by Buddy Holly to record "Peggy Sue" and was used by other stars including Roy Orbison.

The Watford-based group is made up of four childhood friends who took to the X Factor to see if they could score those all-important for yeses from the panel of judges.

Performing a song written themselves about how lead singer Jamaal met his girlfriend, the group, also made up of rapper Myles, songwriter Ashley and DJ and dancer Mustafa got judge Nicole Scherzinger, host Dermot OLeary and other auditionees singing along to that catchy hook.

According to their Facebook page, the name Rak-Su comes from the phrase Tracks vs Suits, interpreted as music and fun vs adult life, with the band saying their aim is to keep making more music, and spreading more vibes with their futuristic fusion of R&B, hip-hop and grime.

The move to original music is something head judge Simon Cowell has encouraged for this series of X Factor as the show approaches its 14th year. FIRST UP: Rak-Su audition with their original track.

Avidan, the frontman for popular comedy band Ninja Sex Party, was brought on board to be the co-host of Game Grumps after Jafari left.

Donovan also came on board the same day Avidan did as the host of the Game Grumps spin off show Steam Train with Avidan acting as co-host.

Barry Kramer was brought on board the team on September 2012 to help edit the show while Jafari and Hanson worked on their own shows. He's now a regular guest on many of the channel's episodes.

Suzy Berhow is the channel's manager and made appearances in videos starting with a video on Mario Party 4. She runs three different YouTube channels: makeup and fashion channel Mortem3r, animation channel Meeperfish, and Game Grumps affiliated gaming channel KittyKatGaming.

She is also Hanson's wife. Kevin Louis Abernathy was brought on board to take over Kramer's editing duties in August 2014 after responding to an ad posted by Hanson. Like Kramer, he appeared in videos on the channel.

He left in summer 2016 to focus on his interest in trailer editing and was replaced by Matt Watson and Ryan Magee of SuperMega.

Brian "Ninja Brian" Wecht, the keyboardist for Ninja Sex Party, was brought on board as an official member in November 2015 appearing in a variety of the channel's spin off shows.

The channel has allowed a number of guests on the show starting on March 25, 2013 with the arrival of legendary video game composer Grant Kirkhope.

Other guests include Dan Harmon of Rick and Morty, Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things, and Jacob Anderson of Game of Thrones. Game Grumps Developed and Published a Dad Dating Simulator.

Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator, a visual novel game where you play as a single dad trying to date other single dads, was developed and published by the Game Grumps brand.

The game was written and created by Vernon Shaw and Leighton Grey. They and a team of programmers and artists were given funding, promotion, and office space by Game Grumps. Hanson, Avidan, Kramer, Wecht, and Berhow all contributed voice work.

According to SteamSpy, the game has around 189,900 owners. Hanson and Avidan Will Star in YouTube Red Original Series Good Game.

The show's executive producer is Dan Harmon, who created and produced Community and co-created Rick and Morty. The show also has involvement from popular YouTuber and Media Commentator Jessie Cox and eSports Host, Producer, and Actress Michele Morrow.

Fans Show Their Love by Reanimating Episodes. Since the beginning of the channel, fans have been creating animations recreating episodes of the show. Even Hanson and Kramer contributed their own animations.

Animators like Flannelson and Esquirebob were even hired to produce official animations for the channel based on their work.

For the 36th and 37th episodes of the show's Pokemon FireRed playthrough, footage of the game was lost. So Animator Linzb0t animated the entirety of episode 36 and part of episode 37.

For the 5th anniversary of the channel, Game Grumps released "Animate-A-Grump," a collaboration between several Game Grumps animators.

Each animator recreated a short segment of the show's finale of their Battle Kid Fortress of Peril playthrough and all of them were compiled into one video. A list of all the animators can be found here.
