New Home Realtors - How Round Robin Realtor Are Hurting "New Home" Buyers - Duration: 5:56.

Hi everyone. This is your Tampa Bay Realtor Lance Mohr and in this video I

want to talk about new home Realtors. and talk about what I call round

robin Realtors or one and done Realtor's, what this is and how it's hurting

consumers like yo. So I'm going to go over that and what do you need to do so

you don't run into one of these agents and moreover use one of these agents if

you're buying a new home

all right so I actually got inspired to do this video from one of my YouTube

customers Craig and he ran into this situation in Orlando and it just really

really ticks me off as a real estate agent so the question is what is a round

robin agent what is a one-and-done agent well when you're looking at new homes

what a lot of agents will do is they'll get you in their car they'll cut they'll

get a hold of you they'll get you in their cart and they'll just round-robin

you all the builders so they don't really put a lot of time and effort into

trying to find out what you want what you're looking for what works good for

you what's a good match they don't educate you on the different types of

builders on the differences between builders point things out negotiation

all that stuff they basically put you in the car and now and I've seen this it

happens actually more often than most people that they get done but they'll

put the fires in the car and Adele just round-robin them they'll just go from

builder to builder to builder to builder and when they walk in they'll basically

spend five or ten minutes with each builder sign a registration card on to

the next billing cycle registration card on to the next voter and they're

basically one and done because then after they won you think you know one as

far as menu once they're basically out the door and done you probably never

heard from the Big Ear for me again because what they do is they just they

filled out the registration card so it protects them as an agent to get paid

and is completely unfair completely unprofessional I know this stuff happens

all the time it's a really really a bad service and just really puts a black eye

on the real estate industry so an actually great situation in Orlando what

happened is the agent was saying oh how she could get really negotiate the

purchase price and the closing cost and she wants to meet him and if wipe out at

the Builder who two other buyers and she's going to negotiate a really good

deal well let me tell you builders absolutely

real estate agents like this they have an obligation to pay em and it's

unfortunate but they hate them they know who these people are I know it kinda

builder reps and I've known over rep for years and we talked about this stuff on

how agents just come in they don't know what they're doing they you know they

just like okay let's go to the next builder let's go to the next filter

let's look at the next home and it's just a completely unjust service and it

really picks me off because most of you who knows we've been watching my youtube

videos who's called me beep emailed me I'm here to help you I'm here to educate

you the best thing that I can do in the real estate agent is educate my buyer

educate my seller educate my investors educate people so they can make an

intelligent decision a wise decision for them and their family not just get them

out and act like a taxicab driver and take them from home and home the home a

builder the Builder the Builder it really picks me off as a real estate

agent when I see this stuff going on and when Craig called me up he actually did

just call me he shared me shared with me the email messages and the messenger

messages from this agent and yeah I was gonna do this yesterday but I was so

kicked off I just decided not to and I decided to do this today so what you

really need to do is so we don't work with an agent like this is this talk to

the agent and ask them what are you gonna do to help me find a new home what

value do you bring to the table what's your game plan because if it be if they

don't really have a game plan they don't go employing value to the

table to educate you on different builders what's praise what's the cons

and different areas different floor plan all the stuff quality of failures from

the outside of the home to the inside of the home let's hide them all if they're

not doing this what's the point go find an angel wherever you are that

knows what the heck they're doing that's gonna be able to educate you and

negotiate for you because it's about relationships are vigorous as real

estate agents is all about relation ships with a builder rep with the

management with the builders etc so the agents that just come in and they just

round-robin the buyer and then they don't talk to them again they're not

going to negotiate but they don't give a credit or they would be doing it the

right way and educating themselves and educating the higher so I just want you

to be aware that if you have any questions at all don't hesitate to give

me a call if you're looking for an agent in your area that is familiar with new

homes let me know I can hook you up about anywhere in the country and you

know or give me a call should contact me my contact information is below and just

leave a comment if you like these videos or if you have any questions thank you I

appreciate you watching my youtube videos I wish you the best of luck

BookBaby Indie Author Self-Publishing Conference 2017 with Carolyn Howard-Johnson - Duration: 1:05.

I told you all that I really believe in book promotion

but I think I need to tell me that my first love is conferences.

It's because of networking. Networking is fantastic for conferences.

So, when you come to a conference,

you should be thinking in terms of

taking names and asking people to subscribe to your newsletter.

You should be thinking about asking them later to write blurbs for your book

so that you can promote that way.

And then eventually, when your book is published,

You have a list that's far more valuable and any kind of list you could buy.

Any kind.

Because of the people that you meet there

who eventually can make or break the success of your books.

there are so many ways that you can use a book conference

to make a difference in the life of your books...

so many ways!

BookBaby is where writers become authors!

Screen Time Hacks - Family Time No Tech Zone - Family Technology Time Out - Duration: 2:36.

Hi this is Tammy and Barry with another video from family with purpose

technology, technologies is a blessing but sometimes it can be a curse

especially when technology takes over and you never even really have a real

conversation with your family or those that you want this happens all the time

whether it's the phone whether it is a Playstation or Wii or Xbox by the bad

computers and then there's the phone which not only is a phone because of all

the texting and snapchatting but it's also a phone because of all the games

that thousands and thousands of thousands of games and apps that are on

a phone and it is just purely time consuming and takes away from the family

in major ways it's not that it's bad it's just it's so much others so what do

we do about it so we try really hard to set limits and

when we're just gonna home like we need family time we gather up all of our

technology including our phones we put them in one place on our kitchen counter

I do you think that we shot our kids dog it's so terrible to take their phone

away for a little while that time that's the key it's a set time so we call it no

tech time or no tech zone even though that we're watching tech on a movie or

playing sometimes we play card games or board games but the whole point is that

you're born no one has distractions with their technology and we're all focused

on each other and actually have a fun conversation and laugh oftentimes that

happens sometimes it's not like that or we'll just watch a movie in jail but

we're together and it's intentional that's what we've been trying to talk to

you guys about for so long is intentionality and even if we're just

watching a movie together we're doing it together and we're all watching the same

thing and talking about the same thing so when you see that your family needs

some initial focused time together try it out no tech time no tech zone for a

set amount of time everyone follows it and everyone will be blessed by it

you'll be glad you did and don't forget if you like this too like it and share

it press the button subscribe we appreciate you we'll talk to you next

time thanks so much for watching if you want to hear about something in

particular or you want to share how our hacks were helpful we would love to hear

BITCOIN BTC PRICE PREDICTION 2018 UPDATE + TECHNICAL ANALYSIS! CRASH? BUY? CRYPTOCURRENCY NEWS TODAY - Duration: 16:04.

what is going on guys Patrick here bringing you a brand new video today

we're gonna be talking about Bitcoin is Bitcoin going a 50 thousand a hundred

thousand dollars or as Bitcoin going to zero we're gonna cover that in this

video I'm gonna give you guys my thoughts now before we get started a few

things first of all we're doing a Bitcoin giveaway today since this is a

Bitcoin related video we're going to be giving away Bitcoin to one of you guys

so all you have to do to enter be subscribed to the channel leave a

comment down below saying who sings something related to the video and of

course leaving your wallet address and third thing you guys have to do is go

ahead and join our Facebook group link in the description the cryptocurrency

all-stars were growing 45 members a ton of value is here and this is where I

post everything first as soon as I see it so you guys don't want to miss this

anyways but yeah make sure to join the group and introduce yourself and I'm

gonna cross-reference who wins the thing with you introducing yourself in the

Facebook group so guys make sure to do that also another thing I want to give

you guys before we start I want to tell you guys my method currently for a hash

flare because this plays into the Bitcoin price obviously Bitcoin mining

is a big part of Bitcoin and of the network itself but I want to tell you

guys my sort of plan right now so thing is Bitcoin prices right now are pretty

low so you know 0.25 Bitcoin it's gonna get you 10 tear hash and that's two

thousand US dollars so what I would do in this situation if I had not if I

don't have a contract yet I would go ahead and I would purchase one a

contract with credit card so that's the first thing I would turn fiat into

mining power that way I don't lose any value I can just pay the two thousand

dollars and that's that so that's the first thing I would do now second I

would look at buying some Bitcoin low and when the price goes back up then

this will be worth significantly more so think about it this way if it's worth

point to Bitcoin to get ten Terra hash right let's say it's worth point to

Bitcoin because big point to Bitcoin is worth two thousand two hundred dollars

right now let's say the value of Bitcoin Inc

so now point to bitcoins worth $4,000 so over here you're gonna be able to get 18

to air hash for the point to Bitcoin because this price is going to be lower

because the value of Bitcoin went up so keep that in mind now without further

ado let's jump right into the market let's take a look at how everything's

doing a lot of ran a lot of rent no surprise we're getting close to that

four hundred billion dollar market cap now what we want to see at all we're

trying to see upward trends however a lot of things read this does put a good

opportunity though guys again to buy some crypto currencies when they're on

sale you guys can see first off we went all the way down and we've started to

see this a little bit of a correction hopefully this lasts this little you

know swing I'm hoping means we're going to start sticking upward trends starting

tomorrow that is what I'm hoping for but right now if Theory I'm down 15% under

$900 definitely a great pickup in my opinion stellar as well 38 cents it's

been a while since we've seen it this low I would definitely definitely I'm

going to be picking up some more stellar at the end of this video don't forget

guys before we continue none of this financial advice is just my biased

opinion I'm telling you guys what I'm doing well I think of the situation keep

that in mind this is not financial advice also if you guys are new to the

channel and you have not subscribed yet make sure to smash the subscribe button

let's continue with this so some of the coins that I really really like right

now are you know I love Bitcoin I saw a lot of my portfolios in bitcoins

especially at this current price I want to see an increase and I think it

definitely definitely will atheria it's another one I'm holding a decent amount

in my wallet just because at this price I had to get some more look at that what

a beauty of a price card dunno picked some up I picked some of this up stellar

I'm going to be picking up but yeah those are the ones I'm kook even less

calm Lisp you guys know I picked up some already and it did have that big run up

and how it's down again opportunity for those of you guys who didn't jump in go

ahead to finance if you're interested in getting all coins I have a link down

below finance go get your all coins that's where I get

99% of my crypto car see just not the ones that aren't on

there but everything here all the big ones are on there so let's take a look

at Bitcoin specifically the one 146 billion dollar market cap you know is

down a long I have to say that everyone knows Bitcoin almost hit twenty thousand

now we're all the way back down here and like I said we went down under eight

thousand I was asleep true story I posted this in the Facebook

group I was asleep I was supposed to be awake for class completely slept through

my alarm had I woken up I would have been able to pick up some Bitcoin at the

7500 market I think it was close to on coinbase completely missed it back up

over a thousand dollars increase that could have made some crazy profits just

by behind like you know five Bitcoin could easily made like five to ten

thousand dollars while in class so definitely miss that opportunity very

upset with that but guys eight thousand seven hundred we're to look at the more

interactive chart at the end but I'm gonna talk to you guys about why I

genuinely think bitcoins price right now is so outrageously undervalued and why I

don't think we're gonna ever see a price like this ever ever ever again so let's

jump right there so coin based like I said coinbase we went down to 7,000 and

something if I go to the one day right here the value of Bitcoin 7,500 I

thought by looking at charts I knew 7,500 was the support line I was looking

for not only was I looking at charts I was listening to podcast and a lot of

crypto experts were saying 7,500 is roughly the point that we're looking for

support if it goes below there we're gonna be in a you know it's gonna we're

in trouble is gonna go down a little more not in trouble as it's going away

but you know in trouble we don't want to see it go to much lower and it managed

to recover so now we you know sitting at eight thousand six hundred eight

thousand seven hundred depending on the exchange you're looking at still

outrageously undervalued in my opinion now I want to tell you guys oh that's

not the article I want to show you guys so Charlie Lee a few articles I'm gonna

show you guys he's bullish on bitcoin and litecoin in the long term short term

impossible to predict now this of this article is important and I

wanted to show this to you guys because a lot of people are not understanding

you know how investments work a lot of us were spoiled when Bitcoin you know

went through the roof in December and it hit 20,000 almost hit 20,000 dollars in

like December 17th a lot of us are swept we saw Bitcoin multiply you know go up

hundreds of percents a week that's not investing investing is a long long term

game if you invested anything in the stock market you don't invest for a few

weeks you know you're trying to get in and you're trying to hold on to your

assets and watch them grow because you truly believe in the you know in what

you're investing in and that's another thing I see a lot of people don't

understand what bitcoin is or what blockchain is or what a certain

cryptocurrency is they don't understand what the project is about what the coin

is trying to do and therefore if you invest in it and you don't know what's

going on you're not going to feel confident in your investment so that's

the first thing is make sure to do your research and understand this is a

long-term game crypto currencies aren't going to be adopted overnight there's

going to be roadblocks there's going to be Corrections we just have to remember

why we're here what we you know are striving to achieve we don't like

centralized systems we don't like banks and that is why we are investing in

cryptocurrency and in some of our favorite coins so keep that in mind this

is a long-term game no one ever invested in real estate for a two week game right

and then wolf of Wall Street says Bitcoin can hit 50 thousand dollars

before crashing now again I think there's definitely going to be more

crashes in the cryptocurrency market it's still so new do I think it can hit

fifty thousand dollars though yes do I think it's then going to correct

probably at some point after fifty thousand definitely it's going to have a

correction I don't know to how far I don't know when it could be at fifty

sixty seventy eight thousand one hundred thousand I don't know

definitely be a correction but I don't think I don't agree with him when he

says that it's a bubble it's going to crash for certain so you know I don't I

don't believe in that now this is another article it's pretty cool so

Forbes released why Bitcoin could reach $100,000 and this is an article that I

agree with a lot of these points are points I've already made in previous

videos I just wanted to have them open to make sure I don't forget any of them

and so we kind of can go through together and figure out why I think

bitcoins gonna go definitely over $50,000 I think we're gonna see $40,000

2018 that's what I'm hoping for $40,000 2018 so you know I said $8,000 that is

sick and it's very very cheap compared to the return that you could possibly

have so the factors are it's limited to 24 to 21 million bitcoins we know that

right we know that it's limited 21 million we

cannot create more that right there is the more people come in then the more

price is going to increase another big thing about this is that that there it

is I was going to say it lost keys 20 um so an economist estimates that 23

percent of cryptocurrency keys have been lost which lowers the supply so that's

true not only are we not at the 21 billion Bitcoin mark yet there's not

that many in circulation but there's going to be lost keys and you know even

if it's a small amount or people just buy and forget about X they bought

fractions like tiny fractions they just forgot about it people mind back then

you know back the few years ago and they didn't think it was anything and then

they sold their computer and it's on the computer no one knows how to get it

though that decreases the supply that there is so again that lowers the supply

and the more people come in that means you know the supply is going to be less

than 21 million bitcoins at the time of January 3rd no on ok so their toy 16.8

million in circulation roughly at the time this article was written which i

think is like a week ago maybe a little less maybe a few days but definitely not

you know it's not going to be 21 million in circulation so it's lower than that

because of the lost keys and everything another reason why bitcoin is going to

be the leader is it was the first one so for now bitcoin was well nothing it's

always going to be the first cryptocurrency but for now it is leading

the pack by a lot and I don't see that changing any time

soon if it does it'll be for only a tiny amount some people are predicting

etherium to catch up to Bitcoin I don't think it's gonna happen and if it does

it's not going to last very long bitcoin is the first one it's the one that gets

all the media attention and that's huge you know that's the name everyone knows

people don't most people don't know crypto currencies most people know

Bitcoin right you ask anyone in your streets if they know stellar chances are

most people don't if you ask them about trum they're gonna tell you they love

the movie or they hated the movie they don't know what Tron is if the

fourteenth biggest market cap on coin market on market cap so that's another

thing to keep up the the media attention is huge the fact that a lot of people

know it is huge now another thing we're gonna see is hoarding a lot of people

you know buy and hold which again decreases the supply and circulation not

everyone's trading it constantly a lot of people including myself have bought

some put it on an external wallet and that is where I'm keeping it I'm not

touching that amount that Bitcoin is there I bought it when it was a few

thousand dollars so even at eight thousand I have you know 4 X 5 X to my

investment I still think is going up a lot so those bitcoins are out of

circulation out of circulation no one can touch them they are mine

another big thing is yes there is illegal activity that goes on with

Bitcoin because you can remain anonymous while transacting it well you know carry

out transactions that is a good thing that is also a bad thing bad obviously

illegal activities aren't great then but they happen the good side of it is

there's a market for it so people are going to be buying Bitcoin as an

investor that's a good thing even if people are using it for illegal

activities that is a good thing and don't sit here and pretend like the US

dollar isn't used you know for illegal activities - one of the richest men in

the world are the some of the richest man in the world are the Colombian drug

lords who deal with cocaine and they have stacks and stacks of US dollars at

their house so don't pretend like bitcoin is the only thing that's you

know causing the illegal market to do anything it's just that's just not true

it's just a new way for them to transact just like it's a new way for us to

transact as humans to transact and send money to one another that's

honestly my prediction on it I don't want to go into too much detail I do

want to look at the interactive chart though I see what says technical

analysis summary is saying to sell I don't agree with that buddy

I don't agree we should not be selling Bitcoin right now at this price you're

making a big mistake I think if you're selling at this price anyways let's look

where we are right here so this is the coin base you Bitcoin to US dollar on No

why is it on BitFenix I wanted to be on coinbase huh

BTC USD Bitcoin use dollar coins see this works okay me maybe I was on the

right one I was just seeing things so let's go through everything once again

this is the support line a lot of people are looking at is the 7500 to $8,000

mark a lot of experts were talking about this I was telling I was watching a

podcast with ty Lopez he had a ton of experts on there and they were

discussing 7500 being the point they're looking for a bounce and they're looking

for support and oddly enough it was pretty much exactly at that point

coinbase went to 7540 I believe and it bounced off from that so that's one of

the big things they were very right on that I was expecting support at the

8,000 mark they said 7,500 as they are more expert than I am I trusted their

analysis as well obviously I did my own but I also trusted their analysis now

you guys can see we are holding a support still at the 8,000 mark dipped

it was only for like a half hour an hour then it dipped below 8,000 it wasn't for

long at all if you were lucky enough to get some Bitcoin then congratulations on

your profit but you guys can see we're holding the support line I am hoping to

start seeing an upward trend you guys know I'm saying by the end of February

start of March we're gonna start seeing the markets recover and hopefully start

seeing you know coins start moving upwards and start seeing green days on

coin market cap that's what I'm looking for I don't think we're gonna be testing

all time highs exactly then I do think that might take a little bit

longer in the year but definitely it is definitely coming soon now guys

hopefully you Joe enjoyed this video we just went over a bit in news and why I

think Bitcoin is going to reach the 50 thousand dollar mark I'm predicting

thirty five to forty thousand dollars by the end of 2018 let me know your

predictions down below don't forget Bitcoin and giveaway so make sure you

comment and join the Facebook group to be entered to have a chance to win some

Lion King Everything You Missed & Easter Eggs - Duration: 10:31.

[music plays]

>>Crazy Nate: Alright, it's time.

You asked for it, so we're going to be talking about it.

That's right it's time to talk about the king of the animal kingdom.

You asked for him, so here's everything you missed in Disney's movie, the Lion King.

[intro music plays]

>> Timon: You're waiting for me?

Oh, Sorry

>> Crazy Nate: One thing about Disney that you might not have noticed before is they

like to reflect the evil villain with a lot of green.

Sorry if your favorite color is green.

So if you see a character that likes a lot of green, not always

>> Dr. Facilier: Takes Green

>> Crazy Nate: But a lot of times that's a little hint that they're going to be a bad

guy, near the end of this video.

So with Scar in case you don't pick up right away, he has super green eye balls, and as

we learn more about Scar we find out he is really evil and selfish, we even see green

light for him when he's singing his little song to his troops.

Ironically when Simba's learning to turn your back on the world

>> Timon: Right?

>> Simba: Right...

>> Timon: Wrong!

When the world turns it's back on you, you turn your back on the world!

>> Crazy Nate: He's becoming selfish without worrying about others, because he's only worried

about himself, so again we see a lot of green in the background.

They didn't change his eyeball color, it's still the original color.

In this scene with Scar they even went so far to reference him as a evil dictator that

once existed in our world.

I'm not going to say who he is, because he's not worth mentioning, and some countries consider

him a cuss word.

AH! he said it!

He said it!

He said the name!

He just said the name!

>> Timon: Lie down before you hurt yourself.

>> Crazy Nate: We're also not disappointed with Lion King, as far as hidden Mickeys go.

Did you see him?

Here's all the mickeys I found.

If I missed one let me know where it was at.

Early in the movie we see a Mickey Mouse on the ground.

>> Simba and Nalla: Please....

>> Crazy Nate: Then later on when Simba and Nalla are ditching the dodo.

>> Nalla: So, how are we going to ditch the Dodo?

>> Crazy Nate: We see another Mickey Mouse.

>> Rob Minkoff: Hi, I'm Rob Minkoff and I directed the Lion King.

>> Roger Allers: Uh, no excuse me, hi I'm Roger Allers, and I directed the Lion King.

>> Rob Minkoff: Actually that's not true, the two of us did it together.

>> Roger Allers: We did it together.

>> Crazy Nate: and in the end of the song Be Prepared,

>> Shenzi: Yeah!

Be prepared, we'll be prepared, for what?

>> Crazy Nate: the random Heyenas laughing at the end of the song are actually voiced

by the Directors.

A little bit of a cameo

[evil laughter in the distance]

And now it's time for Survey Time!

[gameshow music plays]

With Disney's plans of making a new version of the Lion King, do you think that this is

going to be a good thing or a bad thing for the whole Lion King world?

Click the little i up there or comment down below and let me know what you think.

>> Nerdy Nate: Ok, You haven't let me run the show in quiet some time now.

It's my turn to talk!

OK, so you think some of these words are made up right, like Mook.

>> Timon: What mook made that up?

>> Nerdy Nate: Well technically mook was a made up word.

It was even improvised by Nathan Lane who Nathan Lane... by the way is a great name,

he was the voice for Timon.

However some of these words are just as real as you and me.

Like this word…

>> Simba: What are you supposed to say when akun akuna.

>>Nerdy Nate: No, hakuna matata.

>> Simba: what are you supposed to say when hakuna matuka.

>> Nerdy Nate: Noooo... hakuna matata!

>> Simba: mhmmm...

>> Nerdy Nate: hakuna matata!

>> Simba: ushmusa...

>> Nerdy Nate: hakuna matata!

>> Simba: What are you supposed to say when Hakuna Matata haha doesn't work...

I don't speak this African stuff.

>> Nerdy Nate: Come on!

You're as bad as Crazy Nate!

He doesn't even know how to say Hei Hei!

>> Crazy Nate: Hei Hei the chicken.

>> Nerdy Nate: AHHH!!!

>> Moana: Hei Hei.

>> Timon: hakuna matata

>> Simba: What?

>> Disgust: Of course your tiny brain is confused, guess I'll just have to dumb it down to your

level!

>> Pumbaa: hakuna matata.

It means no worries.

>> Nerdy Nate: Thank you.

So this word is actually used in Central East Africa and it actually means no worries.

>> Rafiki: Shhh, come here, it's a secret.

Asante sana.

Squash Banana we we nugu. mi mi apana.

>> Simba: Enough already, what is that supposed to mean anyways?

>> Rafiki: It means you're a baboon and I'm not.

>> Nerdy Nate: Or like asante san, that's actually a real word to from Swahili, and

it actually does mean what the monkey says it means.

>> Crazy Nate: OK, thanks a lot Nerdy Nate, it's time to get back to the show though.

Enough with the lessons of language.

any who, let's point out some of the mistakes that were in the movie.

>> Nerdy Nate: What do you mean mistakes?

There's no mistakes in Lion king!

>> Crazy Nate: yeah, it was a great movie, almost perfect, but there were a few mistakes.

[rafiki shows simba to the animals]

>> Rafiki: Simba?

>> Crazy Nate: When Rafiki ads some fruit juice to Simba's little forehead in the

Ceremony all is fine no problems there, but later on we see him do the same thing to his

little wall art, and inside the the plant it is purple, but then when he smears it on

sambas head it's pink.

Oops.

When Simba finally decides to take his place on Pride Rock, if You watch Zazu, you will

see he mouth is moving, saying something to samba, originally they were going to have

him say your majesty, but then later on they decided him talking was just taking away from

the moment, so they just blasted the music, and muted Zazu.

However they didn't have time to go back and redraw his mouth not moving.

So you can see his mouth moving here.

Another thing they don't have enough time is was drawing whiskers.

Believe it or not these things are actually time consuming to draw, so they only put them

on the boy lions, sorry ladies, no whiskers for you.

Ok, so you want to get back to the easter eggs right?

I hear you, how about this one.

When we see all the Heyenas are on the mountain, if you look closely at this one you will see

it doesn't look like it's from anywhere in Africa at all!

That's Jock the little Scottish Terrier from Lady and the Tramp.

One reason that these scenes look so much like Africa is because Disney actually went

on a field trip to Africa to research what the Pride Lands would actually look like.

The mountain you see in the very beginning is actually Kilimanjaro, from you guessed

it, Africa.

They played a little tribute to the culture they saw when they visited.

If you watch closely when Timon's eating bugs, you will see a few of these bugs look

a lot like a mask one might find if you go to Africa and see in their culture.

>> Timon: MMM, Peacons with a very plesent crunch.

>> Crazy Nate: Also a fun little fact, this isn't pretend.

Timon's actually eating the bugs for the camera, and some of them didn't exactly taste very

good.

>> Timon: mmmm...

>> Crazy Nate: This bug also has a pattern that's getting pretty close to mickey's

pants pattern.

But no argument here for this bug, it's clearly got Mickey's stamp on it's back.

Even though they traveled all the way to Africa to research the movie, some of these things

they didn't have to go very far to findd, like when Zazu is singing it's a small world,

it's a reference to the ride it's a small world from Disney Land

>> Zazu: It's a small world after all.

>> Scar: NO!

Anything but that!

>> Crazy Nate: Let's do survey time 2.0.

What?

Two surveys in one show?

This is getting out of hand!

Have you ever been on the ride at Disney Land it's a small world?

Yes you loved it, yes you hated it or no you never been on it at all.

Vote!

>> Timon: Taste like chicken...

Yuck, I think I got a bad grub.

>> Crazy Nate: I supposed I need to address this scene.

Now if you have seen Lion King on TV recently, or you own it on blu ray or DVD, you've not

see the dust that original was in the movie.

If you have VHS you will see it's a lot different than it is today.

A lot of people are believing that the dust when Lion King lays down looks a lot like

a adult word, Watching frame by frame I see how it does kind of look like that word look

like that word as well.

However according to Disney, it's supposed to say SFX, giving a little credit to the

special effects department, because they played a vital roll in making Lion King as amazing

as it was.

Like all these dust scenes in the elephant graveyard.

This was done in special effects with the fog or smoke or whatever.

Or the stamped.

It would of been impossible to hand draw 10,000 wildebeest going through a canyon.

So a computer actually made the scene with the Wilderbeast.

Or you can see a shadowing effect on all our favorite characters.

This is to give them a three dimensional effect, so they don't look flat on the screen like

a little cartoon instead it's a more amazing movie.

We can thank the special effects department for all this happening.

Or SFX.

There are a few scenes that we can see as an example of what it would look like if they

didn't do these effects on the characters.

Basically the reason why not all the scenes have the shadowing effect is because they

basically just ran out of time before the movies deadline.

>> Zazu: My my my look at the sun, it's time to go!

>> Crazy Nate: So regardless, if you think it said S.E.X. or S.F.X. it doesn't matter.

When they made the DVD slash blu ray, they went back and retouched this scene and polished

it up so you can't see any letters.

>> Timon: Goodnight Pumbaa.

>> Pumbaa: Goodnight Timon.

[Pumbaa farts]

>> Timon: I think I'm gonna go for a walk.

>>Crazy Nate: If you found my easter eggs in this video leave a comment where there

don't forget to include #roar for your chance to win a free shirt.

>> HOW TO PLAN FOR RETIREMENT.

A SIMPLE GUIDE TO HELP YOU RETIRE WITH PEACE OF MIND.

>> HELLO, IT'S ME, PROFESSOR KNOWITALL.

AND, YES, I'LL BE GIVING YOU THE

VERY BEST TIPS SO YOU CAN RETIRE WITH PEACE OF MIND.

>> HELLO, PROFESSOR.

ARE YOU NOW AN EXPERT ON THAT TOPIC?

>> OF COURSE.

>> OH, OKAY.

>> SO YOU'RE ALL READY FOR RETIREMENT?

>> OF COURSE I'M READY.

>> SO THEN YOU HAVE MONEY SAVED?

>> WELL, NOT EXACTLY.

BUT I HAVE A PLAN.

I WILL LIVE WITH MY KIDS.

>> LIVING WITH YOUR FAMILY DURING RETIREMENT CAN

BE VERY GRATIFYING.

BUT SURELY YOU DON'T WANT TO BE A BURDEN ON THEM.

DID YOU KNOW THAT PEOPLE IN THE UNITED STATES ON AVERAGE

LIVE 20 YEARS AFTER THEY RETIRE?

IN GENERAL, PEOPLE NEED ALMOST 80% OF WHAT

THEY EARNED IN ORDER TO LIVE COMFORTABLY AFTER RETIRING.

>> UMM.

>> THAT'S A LOT OF MONEY.

SO YOU'LL DEFINITELY NEED A GOOD PLAN IN ORDER TO GET THERE.

OKAY, DON'T PANIC YET.

IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO START OR EVEN TOO EARLY.

LET ME TELL YOU WHAT YOU SHOULD DO SO THAT THE NEXT TIME YOU

CAN GIVE PEOPLE GOOD ADVICE.

>> SOUNDS GOOD.

>> PROFESSOR, ACCORDING TO THE CONSUMER ACTION HANDBOOK,

THE FIRST THING IS RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF SAVING

FOR RETIREMENT.

THE THREE MOST COMMON OPTIONS ARE:

ONE, PENSION BENEFITS OFFERED BY SOME PLACES OF EMPLOYMENT;

TWO, SAVINGS AND INVESTMENTS STARTED BY YOU;

THREE, SOCIAL SECURITY, WHICH IS THE FEDERAL

GOVERNMENT'S RETIREMENT PLAN.

NOW, IF YOU'RE STILL WORKING, FIND OUT IF YOUR PLACE OF

EMPLOYMENT OFFERS A PENSION PLAN AND HOW IT WORKS.

SOME COMPANIES ALSO OFFER A 401(K) PLAN.

>> 401 WHAT?

I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THAT TRUCK, BUT MINE IS NEWER.

>> I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT VEHICLES HERE.

I'M TALKING ABOUT RETIREMENT PLANS, WHICH IF YOU SAVE,

YOUR COMPANY WILL MATCH A PERCENTAGE OF THE

CONTRIBUTIONS YOU MAKE.

>> OH, THAT'S LIKE FREE MONEY!

>> EXACTLY.

SOMETIMES YOU IMPRESS ME, PROFESSOR.

IN ORDER TO PLAN WELL FOR RETIREMENT,

YOU MUST CONSIDER WHAT TYPES OF EXPENSES YOU'LL HAVE:

WHETHER YOU'LL WORK OR NOT; IF YOU'LL HAVE ADDITIONAL

MEDICAL INSURANCE; OR IF YOU'LL HAVE COSTLY

HOBBIES LIKE TRAVELING.

THERE ARE MANY THINGS TO CONSIDER,

SO YOU MAY WANT TO CONSULT A FINANCIAL EXPERT FOR HELP.

>> YIKES, I'M FEELING DIZZY.

>> PROFESSOR, YOU CAN ALSO ASK FOR

HELP AND GET TIPS FROM THE FOLLOWING ORGANIZATIONS:

AARP; AMERICAN SAVINGS

EDUCATION COUNCIL; DEPARTMENT OF LABOR;

SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION;

SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION.

>> UMPH, I'M FEELING A LITTLE BETTER NOW.

>> PROFESSOR, THIS IS ABOUT SAVING; NOT SPENDING.

BETTER YET, LET ME REMIND YOU TO VISIT

USA.GOV OR IN SPANISH AT GOBIERNOUSA.GOV WHERE YOU

CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT ALL OF THIS AND OTHER INTERESTING

TOPICS FOR CONSUMERS.

AND REMEMBER, YOU CAN ALSO ORDER YOUR FREE

"CONSUMER ACTION HANDBOOK."

[ MUSIC PLAYING ]

>> GOOD EVENING, I'M MARIETTA JELK WITH

USAGOV AND WELCOME.

THANK YOU FOR JOINING US TODAY FOR THIS GREAT DISCUSSION

ON THE FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU START

RECEIVING SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFITS.

IT'S A NEW YEAR, AND WE'VE PROBABLY ALL MADE

SOME RESOLUTIONS FOR 2018.

SO IT'S THE PERFECT TIME FOR US TO DISCUSS A FEW

IMPORTANT TIPS THAT EVERYONE SHOULD CONSIDER BEFORE YOU

START RECEIVING SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFITS.

NOW, BEFORE WE START THE DISCUSSION, I WANT TO LET

YOU KNOW THAT WE ARE GOING TO TAKE QUESTIONS FROM

YOU OUT THERE WATCHING, SO IF YOU DO HAVE A QUESTION,

SEND IT IN.

POST IT IN THE COMMENTS SECTION UNDER THE VIDEO AND WE'LL

ANSWER AS MANY OF THEM AS WE CAN WHILE WE'RE HERE LIVE.

OKAY.

BUT, REMEMBER, DON'T INCLUDE YOUR SOCIAL

SECURITY NUMBER OR ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION IN YOUR QUESTION.

WE WANT TO KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE.

WITH ME TODAY IS BJ JARRETT FROM THE SOCIAL SECURITY

ADMINISTRATION.

THANK YOU, BJ, FOR BEING HERE WITH US TODAY.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.

>> WELL, THANK YOU, MARIETTA.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING US.

MY NAME IS BJ JARRETT.

CURRENTLY I SERVE AS THE DIRECTOR FOR OUR OFFICE OF

PUBLIC AND EMPLOYEE COMMUNICATIONS.

AND, REALLY, I HAVE SERVED THE COMMUNITY

FOR THE BETTER PART OF 15 YEARS IN HELPING FOLKS UNDERSTAND

SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS.

SO IT'S JUST A THRILL TO BE HERE WITH YOU TONIGHT.

>> OH, GREAT.

WELL, I'M GLAD WE'RE HAVING THIS DISCUSSION

SO EARLY IN THE YEAR.

>> ME, TOO.

>> IT'S STILL JANUARY, AND, YOU KNOW,

THIS IS A TIME WHERE A LOT OF US ARE TRYING TO GET OUR

FINANCIAL MINDSET, YOU KNOW, GET OUR DUCKS IN A ROW.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> AND SO I'M GLAD THAT, YOU KNOW, WE'RE DISCUSSING THIS.

IT'S A REALLY TIMELY TOPIC.

>> SURE, SURE.

ONE OF THE, REALLY, MARIETTA, ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT

DECISIONS A PERSON CAN MAKE IN THEIR LIFETIME IS WHEN

TO RETIRE AND WHEN TO START RECEIVING THEIR SOCIAL

SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFIT.

SO THIS IS A TIMELY DISCUSSION.

AND WE REALLY WANT TO KEEP OUR VIEWERS AS INFORMED AS POSSIBLE

SO THEY CAN MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION ABOUT WHEN TO MAKE

THAT DECISION TO RETIRE WITH SOCIAL SECURITY.

>> IT'S REALLY A GOOD POINT.

AND, YOU KNOW, REALLY THINKING ABOUT IT,

THE TERM RETIREMENT CAN MEAN SO MANY THINGS --

>> SURE.

>> -- TO SO MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE.

AND IT CAN BE REALLY OVERWHELMING AT SOME POINT.

AND, YOU KNOW, SOME PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHAT

THEY NEED TO KNOW OR WHAT THINGS THEY NEED TO DO.

WHERE SHOULD SOMEONE REALLY GET STARTED WHEN THEY'RE

THINKING ABOUT, YOU KNOW, RETIREMENT BENEFITS?

>> THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION, MARIETTA.

ONE OF THE THINGS WE LIKE TO THINK AT SOCIAL SECURITY IS

THAT IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY TO START PLANNING FOR A

SECURE RETIREMENT.

SO, YOU KNOW, I'M 42, AND SO IT'S, YOU KNOW,

I'M ALREADY THINKING ABOUT WHAT RETIREMENT IS GOING

TO LOOK LIKE FOR ME. AND WE WANT OUR VIEWERS

TO DO THE SAME.

>> THAT MAKES SENSE.

>> SO, YEAH, SO WHETHER, YOU KNOW, YOU START RECEIVING

BENEFITS EARLY FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME,

BUT AT A LESSER AMOUNT.

WHETHER YOU DECIDE TO DELAY YOUR RETIREMENT BENEFITS

AND RECEIVE A LARGER PAYMENT FOR A SHORTER TIMEFRAME,

THAT DECISION IS A PERSONAL ONE.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> AND SEVERAL FACTORS AFFECT THAT.

ONE OF THE THINGS WE LIKE TO TALK IN THIS CONVERSATION IN

TERMS OF THE OTHER TYPES OF INCOME YOU HAVE IN RETIREMENT.

>> MM-HMM.

>> OBVIOUSLY MEDICARE WILL BE THERE FOR YOU AT

65 FOR MOST FOLKS.

BUT YOUR SAVINGS AND INVESTMENTS.

YOUR PERSONAL SAVINGS AND INVESTMENTS.

>> MM-HMM.

>> IF YOU'RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE DUE A PENSION FROM AN EMPLOYER.

>> MM-HMM.

>> ONE OF THE THINGS THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT FOR FOLKS TO

UNDERSTAND IS THAT SOCIAL SECURITY ONLY REPLACES A PORTION

OF YOUR PRE-RETIREMENT EARNINGS, SO YOU REALLY NEED A RETIREMENT

PORTFOLIO, IF YOU WILL, TO LIVE A COMFORTABLE

RETIREMENT.

>> THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO KEEP IN MIND.

I THINK SOME PEOPLE THINK IT'S SUPPOSED TO REPLACE

THE WHOLE AMOUNT.

>> NO.

>> SOMEONE TOLD ME I THINK AN ANALOGY THAT IT'S LIKE

A THREE-LEGGED STOOL.

IT'S SORT OF LIKE YOUR PERSONAL SAVINGS,

IT'S AN EMPLOYEE PLAN OR PENSION,

AND THEN IT'S SOCIAL SECURITY, AND ALL THOSE PARTS KEEP THAT,

YOU KNOW, THAT STOOL SOLID AND STANDING ON GROUND.

>> YOU GOT IT.

>> BUT IT IS OVERWHELMING.

SO, WHAT SHOULD SOMEONE DO, WHAT'S, OF THE FIVE THINGS

THAT PEOPLE SHOULD DO WHEN THEY START PLANNING

FOR RETIREMENT, WHAT'S THE FIRST THING

SOMEONE SHOULD REALLY DO?

>> REALLY GOOD QUESTION, MARIETTA.

THE FIRST THING THAT I THINK FOLKS SHOULD THINK ABOUT IS

THEY REALLY NEED TO KNOW WHAT THEIR RETIREMENT AGE IS.

>> OKAY.

>> FOLKS CAN STILL RETIRE WITH SOCIAL SECURITY

AS EARLY AS AGE 62.

>> OH, OKAY.

>> AS EARLY AS AGE 62.

THE SECOND AGE THAT PROBABLY FOLKS NEED TO BE AWARE OF IS

THAT FULL RETIREMENT AGE.

>> OKAY.

>> FOR FOLKS BORN BETWEEN 1943 AND 1954,

THEIR FULL RETIREMENT AGE IS 66; NOT 65 --

>> OH.

>> -- WHICH IT HAD BEEN IN THE PAST.

MEDICARE, THE AGE AT WHICH YOU START RECEIVING

MEDICARE BENEFITS, IS STILL JUST 65.

>> OKAY.

>> SO IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT DIFFERENCE.

>> THAT IS DIFFERENT.

>> THAT IS DIFFERENT.

AND THEN FOR FOLKS LIKE US BORN 1960 AND LATER,

OUR FULL RETIREMENT AGE IS 67.

SO WE'VE GOT A LITTLE LONGER WAIT.

[ LAUGHTER ] >> OKAY.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

AND THEN FOLKS NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT THEY CAN

DELAY RETIREMENT BENEFITS WITH SOCIAL SECURITY UP TO AGE 70.

NOW, IF YOU DELAY BENEFITS BETWEEN YOUR

FULL RETIREMENT AGE, AGAIN 66 FOR A LOT OF FOLKS

TODAY, AND THEN UP TO AGE 70, YOU CAN EARN EXTRA CREDIT --

>> OH, REALLY.

>> -- FOR THOSE YEARS THAT YOU DELAY TAKING BENEFITS.

>> OH, OKAY.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

SO, YEAH, THAT FIRST POINT IS ABSOLUTELY

YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOUR RETIREMENT AGE IS.

I MENTIONED THAT OUR RETIREMENT AGE,

OUR FULL RETIREMENT AGE IS 67; RIGHT?

>> YES.

>> WE CAN STILL RETIRE AS EARLY AS AGE 62.

>> OKAY.

>> SO, IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT FOLKS KNOW THAT DISTINCTION

AND THEY KNOW WHAT THEIR PERSONAL RETIREMENT AGE IS.

>> I DON'T THINK I EVER REALIZED THAT THERE WAS

SUCH A DISTINCTION -- >> YEP.

>> -- SO I COULD, WELL, 67, IT'S FINE.

I'LL KEEP WORKING.

[ LAUGHTER ] >> THAT'S VERY GOOD.

>> BUT THAT'S GOOD TO KNOW.

SO, FIRST THING IS TO KNOW YOUR RETIREMENT AGE.

>> YOU GOT IT.

>> WHAT WOULD BE THE SECOND THING WE NEED TO KNOW WHEN WE'RE

PLANNING FOR OUR RETIREMENTS?

>> PROBABLY THE SECOND THING, MARIETTA, IS I WOULD ENCOURAGE

FOLKS TO USE THE TOOLS THAT WE HAVE AVAILABLE --

>> OKAY.

>> -- AT SOCIAL SECURITY.GOV -- >> OKAY.

>> -- TO HELP THEM PLAN FOR A SECURE RETIREMENT.

SO I WANT TO GO OVER THREE TOOLS.

WE HAVE A LOT OF REALLY COOL TOOLS AT SOCIAL SECURITY.

>> I'VE BEEN ON YOUR CITE.

YOU'VE GOT A LOT OF STUFF GOING ON.

>> I'M A BIG FAN, TOO.

BUT WE HAVE A LOT OF -- THE THREE THINGS,

THE THREE TOOLS I WANT TO TALK ABOUT TODAY SPECIFICALLY WITH

RESPECT TO THIS CONVERSATION, THE FIRST ONE IS YOUR

SOCIAL SECURITY STATEMENT.

SO IF YOU LOG ON TO SOCIAL SECURITY.GOV/MY ACCOUNT,

YOU CAN EITHER CREATE AN ACCOUNT OR LOG INTO YOUR

ACCOUNT IF YOU ALREADY HAVE ONE AND GET YOUR PERSONALIZED

SOCIAL SECURITY STATEMENT.

>> OH. >> AND WE TALKED ABOUT

THOSE AGES AT WHICH FOLKS CAN RETIRE; RIGHT?

THOSE VARIOUS AGES.

>> RIGHT.

>> THE SOCIAL SECURITY STATEMENT ACTUALLY HAS YOUR ESTIMATE OF

WHAT YOU WOULD BE DUE AT AGE 62, WHAT YOU WOULD BE DUE AT

YOUR FULL RETIREMENT AGE, WHATEVER THAT IS FOR YOU --

>> MM-HMM. >> -- AND THEN WHAT YOU

WOULD BE DUE AT AGE 70 IF YOU DELAY RETIREMENT BENEFITS.

IN ADDITION, THE STATEMENT INCLUDES

INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT SHOULD BE DUE IF YOU BECOME DISABLED

AND YOU COULD NO LONGER WORK.

>> OKAY.

>> AND THEN WHAT YOUR SURVIVORS, IF HEAVEN FORBID SOMETHING

WERE TO HAPPEN TO YOU, WHAT YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS

COULD BE DUE BASED ON WHAT YOU'VE WORKED AND PAID IN.

SO, THE SOCIAL SECURITY STATEMENT IS AN EXCELLENT TOOL.

ALSO YOU CAN -- IT HAS A DESCRIPTION OF YOUR EARNINGS,

WHAT YOU'VE EARNED IN JOBS WHERE YOU PAID SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES.

>> OH.

>> SO YOU CAN CHECK THE ACCURACY OF THOSE EARNINGS AS WELL.

SO SOCIAL SECURITY STATEMENTS, FIRST TOOL, IT'S A GREAT TOOL.

GO TO SOCIALSECURITY.GOV/MYACCOUNT.

SIGN UP FOR AN ACCOUNT.

>> IT'S REALLY EASY.

>> LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT.

REALLY EASY.

IT'S SECURE.

AND THEN ACCESS AND GET YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY STATEMENT SO

YOU CAN BEGIN THAT PROCESS.

>> OKAY.

>> THE SECOND TOOL IS OUR RETIREMENT ESTIMATOR.

SO AT SOCIAL SECURITY.GOV/ESTIMATOR, NOW,

THIS IS REALLY COOL BECAUSE IT'S ONLINE AND IT'S INTERACTIVE.

>> OH!

>> SO THE STATEMENT I TALKED ABOUT,

IT GIVES YOU THOSE BENEFITS AT VARIOUS AGES.

>> MM-HMM.

>> THE ESTIMATOR, YOU CAN ACTUALLY PLAY

WITH DIFFERENT AGES.

>> OH!

>> YEAH, ABSOLUTELY.

SO IT'S NOT JUST 62, FULL RETIREMENT AGE,

AND 70, BUT IF I WANT TO RETIRE AT, SAY, 63,

WHAT WOULD MY BENEFITS LOOK LIKE THEN.

SO THAT'S A REALLY, REALLY COOL INTERACTIVE TOOL.

AND THAT TOOL ALSO USES YOUR ACTUAL WAGES

THAT WE HAVE ON RECORD FOR YOU AT SOCIAL SECURITY.

>> THAT'S A GREAT HYBRID OF THE TWO.

>> SO IT'S PERSONAL, YEAH.

YEAH, IT'S PERSONAL, ABSOLUTELY.

SO ANOTHER GREAT TOOL.

SO SOCIAL SECURITY STATEMENT, THE RETIREMENT ESTIMATOR,

BOTH YOU CAN ACCESS AT SOCIAL SECURITY.GOV.

AND THEN THE THIRD TOOL IS A REALLY A NEWER PUBLICATION

THAT WE CREATED.

IT'S CALLED "YOUR RETIREMENT CHECKLIST."

>> OH, OKAY.

>> WHERE YOU CAN ACCESS THAT AT SOCIAL SECURITY.G-O-V.

AND THAT'S REALLY COOL BECAUSE IT ACTUALLY TIES INTO

WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT TODAY, THESE DIFFERENT TYPES OF THINGS

PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW BEFORE THEY MAKE THAT DECISION.

THAT RETIREMENT CHECKLIST ACTUALLY PROVIDES A LOT

OF THE SAME THINGS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT TODAY.

HOW YOUR BENEFITS, WE'LL TALK ABOUT HOW YOUR

BENEFIT IS CALCULATED A LITTLE BIT LATER.

IT TALKS ABOUT THE THINGS YOU NEED TO CONSIDER.

THE OTHER FORMS OF INCOME.

AND SO IT TALKS A LOT ABOUT -- IT'S REALLY A CHECKLIST OF WHAT

YOU CAN GO DOWN TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR THINGS IN ORDER

BEFORE YOU MAKE THAT DECISION.

>> THAT'S GREAT.

SO IT'S LIKE THIS STATIC DATA, USING THE DATA THAT'S

AVAILABLE -- >> MM-HMM.

>> -- FROM SOCIAL SECURITY AND FROM OUR EARNINGS.

AND THEN LIKE THE HYPOTHETICAL SITUATIONS.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> AND THEN LIKE THIS TO-DO LIST OF THINGS YOU NEED

TO BE DOING -- >> VERY GOOD.

>> -- OR CONSIDERING -- >> ABSOLUTELY.

>> -- IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS WORK.

OKAY.

WELL, IF YOU'VE JUST JOINED US, WELCOME.

I'M MARIETTA WITH USAGOV AND I'M HERE WITH BJ JARRETT,

THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION'S SPOKESPERSON

HERE WITH US TODAY GIVING US A LOT OF GREAT INFORMATION ABOUT

THE THINGS WE NEED TO KNOW BEFORE WE START RECEIVING SOCIAL

SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFITS.

SO IF YOU JUST JOINED US, I WANT TO CATCH YOU

UP A LITTLE BIT.

THE FIRST THING YOU NEED TO KNOW IF YOU'RE GOING TO,

OR YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT RETIRING,

IS TO KNOW YOUR RETIREMENT AGE. AND THE SECOND THING TO

KNOW IS THAT THERE ARE, SOCIAL SECURITY OFFERS A

LOT OF DIFFERENT TOOLS THAT YOU CAN USE TO HELP INFORM

WHEN YOU WANT TO RETIRE, HOW YOUR EARNINGS ARE LOOKING

AND, YOU KNOW, FORWARD LOOKING.

SO THOSE ARE GREAT.

AND YOU WOULD VISIT SOCIALSECURITY.GOV

TO ACCESS THOSE; IS THAT CORRECT?

>> VERY GOOD.

>> OKAY.

WE ARE ALSO TAKING QUESTIONS FROM YOU OUT THERE WATCHING

SO IF YOU DO HAVE A QUESTION, WILL YOU PLEASE POST IT

IN THE COMMENTS SECTION BELOW THIS BROADCAST.

WE'LL ANSWER AS MANY OF THEM AS WE CAN.

BUT, AGAIN, DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR SOCIAL

SECURITY NUMBER AS PART OF THAT.

WE WANT TO KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> SO, YOU WANT TO KEEP GOING?

BECAUSE I THINK WE'RE ON A ROLL HERE.

>> YEAH, LET'S DO IT.

LET'S DO IT.

KEEP IT GOING.

>> SO, LET'S TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WORKING

AFTER YOU RETIRE.

IS THAT A POSSIBILITY?

AND CAN I STILL GET MY SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT

BENEFITS AFTER, YOU KNOW, I'M STILL -- EVEN THOUGH

I'M STILL WORKING?

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> OH.

>> ANOTHER REALLY GOOD QUESTION, MARIETTA.

ABSOLUTELY.

BUT IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW YOU CAN WORK,

YOU CAN WORK WHILE RECEIVING YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY

RETIREMENT BENEFITS, BUT YOU ARE SUBJECT TO AN

EARNINGS LIMIT IF YOU RETIRE EARLY WITH SOCIAL SECURITY.

>> OKAY.

>> SO WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT RETIREMENT BENEFIT

AS STARTING AT AGE 62.

ONE THING I DIDN'T MENTION THAT I WOULD LIKE TO MENTION

ABOUT RETIRING EARLY, IT'S A REDUCTION IN

YOUR BENEFIT.

IT'S NOT YOUR FULL BENEFIT.

AND IT'S A PERMANENT REDUCTION.

>> OH.

>> OKAY.

SO IF YOU RETIRE EARLY ANY TIME BEFORE YOUR FULL RETIREMENT AGE,

REALLY, SO FROM 62 UP TO, USING US AS AN EXAMPLE, 67 --

>> SIXTY-SEVEN.

>> -- AND WE RETIRE ANY TIME BETWEEN THOSE TWO AGES,

IT'S A REDUCTION.

>> OH, OKAY.

>> AND IT'S A PERMANENT REDUCTION.

IF YOU DECIDE TO WORK AND FILE FOR BENEFIT,

FILE FOR SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFITS BEFORE

YOUR FULL RETIREMENT AGE, YOU'RE SUBJECT TO

AN EARNINGS LIMIT.

SO YOU CAN DO IT, BUT YOU HAVE TO BE AWARE

OF WHAT THE RULES ARE.

>> OKAY.

>> THIS YEAR IN 2018, THE EARNINGS LIMIT IS $17,040.

SO, IF YOU DECIDE TO WORK AND CONTINUE TO WORK, EXCUSE ME,

START RECEIVING YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFITS

AND YOU HAVEN'T REACHED YOUR FULL RETIREMENT AGE,

THAT EARNINGS LIMIT IS $17,040 THIS YEAR.

IT USUALLY GOES UP A LITTLE BIT EACH YEAR.

>> OKAY.

>> AND THEN IT'S A 2-FOR-1 REDUCTION AFTER THAT.

SO FOR EVERY $2 YOU MAKE ABOVE THE $17,040 THIS YEAR,

WE REDUCE YOUR BENEFIT BY A DOLLAR.

THE YEAR YOU REACH YOUR FULL RETIREMENT AGE,

MARIETTA, THAT FIGURE, THAT EARNINGS LIMIT,

IF YOU WILL, JUMPS UP TO A LITTLE

OVER $45,000.

>> WHOA!

THAT'S A JUMP.

>> YEAH, AND SO THE REDUCTION IS LESS.

>> OKAY.

>> SO IT'S A 3-FOR-1 REDUCTION.

SO THE YEAR YOU REACH YOUR FULL RETIREMENT AGE,

YOU CAN MAKE CONSIDERABLY MORE, AND IT'S LESS OF A REDUCTION

IF YOU GO OVER THAT.

THE MONTH THAT YOU TURN YOUR FULL RETIREMENT AGE, AND AFTER,

YOU CAN MAKE WHATEVER YOU LIKE.

YOU CAN WORK AND EARN AND MAKE WHATEVER YOU LIKE

WITH NO REDUCTION IN YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFIT.

SO YOU CAN WORK AND RECEIVE SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS,

RETIREMENT BENEFITS, BUT YOU JUST HAVE TO BE

AWARE OF WHAT THOSE RULES ARE AT VARIOUS AGES.

>> THAT'S SOMETHING THAT YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO KEEP IN MIND,

I THINK, IF YOU'RE PLAYING AROUND WITH THE CALCULATORS --

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> -- THERE'S SOME RULES IN PLACE THAT CAN AFFECT HOW YOUR

BENEFITS ARE ACTUALLY PAID OUT. >> AND THOSE CALCULATORS THAT

WE HAVE ONLINE, MARIETTA, THEY WILL TAKE THOSE

EARNINGS LIMITS INTO ACCOUNT.

SO YOU DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE TO KNOW --

>> I DON'T HAVE TO DO THAT EXTRA MATH.

>> -- YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THAT EXTRA MATH.

WE'LL DO THAT FOR YOU.

>> THAT'S AN AREA I DEFINITELY NEED TO GO AND DO THAT.

OKAY, SUPER.

SO WE'RE GOING TO SWITCH GEARS A LITTLE BIT.

>> OKAY.

>> WE'RE STILL TALKING ABOUT THESE TIPS.

IT'S KIND OF MYSTERIOUS TO PEOPLE HOW YOUR RETIREMENT

BENEFITS ARE CALCULATED.

SO WHILE WE HAVE YOU HERE -- >> SURE, SURE.

>> -- CAN YOU ENLIGHTEN US A BIT ON HOW YOUR RETIREMENT

BENEFITS ARE CALCULATED?

>> ABSOLUTELY.

WE'LL TRY TO KEEP IT PRETTY BASIC TODAY --

>> OKAY, KEEP IT SIMPLE BUT, YOU KNOW, INFORMATIVE.

>> -- BUT WE'LL DO OUR BEST.

BUT WHEN WE FIGURE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFIT --

>> MM-HMM.

>> -- WE USE YOUR 35 HIGHEST YEARS OF EARNINGS.

SO WE'RE LOOKING OVER YOUR LIFETIME OF EARNINGS WHEN WE

FACTOR IN WHAT YOUR MONTHLY BENEFIT IS GOING TO BE.

>> OKAY.

>> NOW, THERE IS A BENEFIT FORMULA BEHIND THAT THAT REALLY

HELPS US UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR MONTHLY BENEFIT WILL BE.

AND THERE IS A CALCULATION BASED ON HOW MUCH YOU'VE MADE

OVER YOUR LIFETIME EARNINGS.

TYPICALLY HIGHER WAGE EARNERS GET LESS BACK IN RELATION

TO WHAT THEY PAID.

SO, IT'S A SOCIAL INSURANCE PROGRAM.

IT'S A PROTECTION PROGRAM.

SO, IF YOU MADE LESS OVER YOUR LIFETIME EARNINGS,

YOU TYPICALLY GET MORE BACK IN RELATION TO WHAT YOU PAID.

>> OKAY.

>> NOT A HIGHER BENEFIT THAN SOMEBODY WHO IS A HIGHER EARNER.

I MEAN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WORK AND PAY INTO

SOCIAL SECURITY TAX, THE HIGHER YOUR BENEFIT

IS GOING TO BE ULTIMATELY.

BUT IT IS A SOCIAL INSURANCE PROGRAM.

SO, VERY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THAT WE USE

YOUR 35 HIGHEST YEARS OF EARNINGS WHEN FIGURING

WHAT YOUR MONTHLY SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFIT IS GOING TO BE.

OFTENTIMES WE GET QUESTIONS FROM FOLKS WHO ASSUME IT'S YOUR

HIGHEST TEN OR YOUR LAST THREE.

NO, WE'RE LOOKING AT THE TOTAL BODY OF YOUR WORKING CAREER.

>> OKAY.

>> AND I DO WANT TO MAKE A DISTINCTION BETWEEN WHAT WE --

HOW WE CALCULATE YOUR MONTHLY BENEFIT AND WHAT -- HOW MUCH

WORK YOU NEED TO BE ELIGIBLE.

IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A SOCIAL SECURITY

RETIREMENT BENEFIT, YOU ONLY NEED ABOUT TEN

YEARS OF WORK TO BE ELIGIBLE -- >> OH, OKAY.

>> -- TO EARN YOUR 40 CREDITS TO BE ELIGIBLE.

>> OH, OKAY.

>> SO THERE'S A DIFFERENCE.

THIRTY-FIVE YEARS IS WHAT WE'RE USING IN THAT

CALCULATION TO COME UP WITH YOUR MONTHLY BENEFIT.

BUT YOU ONLY NEED ABOUT TEN YEARS OF WORK IN JOBS WHERE

YOU PAID SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A

RETIREMENT BENEFIT WITH US.

>> THAT'S A BIG DISTINCTION, I THINK --

>> IT IS A BIG DISTINCTION FOR SURE.

>> -- IF IT'S CONFUSED OR WE JUST DEBUNKED THE MYTH.

>> GOOD.

GOOD.

ALL GOOD.

>> SO I THINK THAT WAS VERY HELPFUL TO KNOW.

>> THAT'S WHAT WE'RE HERE TO DO.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

THAT'S GOOD TO KNOW.

SO THERE IS SOME SCIENCE, AND THAT MAKES IT VERY,

VERY CLEAR.

>> GOOD.

>> SO I'M GLAD YOU AT LEAST GAVE US THE SURFACE LEVEL OF IT.

>> WE ACTUALLY HAVE SOME ADDITIONAL TOOLS ONLINE.

I MEAN, AGAIN, I'M A BIG FAN OF THE WEBSITE

SOCIALSECURITY.GOV.

WE HAVE TONS OF INFORMATION THERE.

WE HAVE PUBLICATIONS THAT, ONE IN PARTICULAR,

ENTITLED "HOW YOUR RETIREMENT BENEFIT IS FIGURED,"

WHERE YOU CAN ACTUALLY GO THROUGH THE CALCULATION

YOURSELF -- >> OH, WOW.

>> -- AND USE A FORMULA TO DETERMINE WHAT THAT

MONTHLY BENEFIT LOOKS LIKE.

SO THERE'S NO REAL MYSTERY TO IT, BUT, AGAIN,

IMPORTANT TO KNOW IT'S YOUR 35 HIGHEST YEARS OF EARNINGS.

>> GOOD TO KNOW.

OKAY, SO ANOTHER QUESTION OR TOPIC WE HEAR A LOT --

>> SURE.

>> -- AT USAGOV, PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW ABOUT

THE ELIGIBILITY OF FAMILY MEMBERS TO RECEIVE SOCIAL

SECURITY BENEFITS.

>> SURE.

>> CAN A FAMILY MEMBER BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE RETIREMENT

BENEFITS BASED ON A FAMILY MEMBER OR LOVED ONE'S WORK

HISTORY OR WORK EARNINGS?

>> YEAH, GOOD QUESTION, MARIETTA AND ONE WE GET A LOT.

BUT, YES, ABSOLUTELY, AGAIN, TALK ABOUT THAT SOCIAL

INSURANCE PROTECTION THAT SOCIAL SECURITY PROVIDES.

YES, FAMILY MEMBERS OF THE WORKER WHO WORKED AND

EARNED AND HAD THE TEN YEARS OF WORK IN JOBS WHERE THEY

PAID SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES COULD BE ELIGIBLE.

SO A SPOUSE -- >> OKAY.

>> -- IF YOU HAVE A SPOUSE WHO WAS A RELATIVELY LOW

EARNER OR DIDN'T WORK AT ALL THROUGH THEIR LIFETIME,

THEY COULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR BENEFITS BASED ON THE WORK

RECORD OF THAT SPOUSE WHO DID WORK AND CONTRIBUTE.

>> OH, OKAY.

>> USUALLY IT'S ABOUT 50% OR ABOUT HALF OF WHAT THAT

WORKER'S FULL BENEFIT WOULD BE.

BUT, YES, A SPOUSE COULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR BENEFITS.

CHILDREN, IF THEY ARE MINOR CHILDREN OF A RETIREE,

THAT MINOR CHILD OR MINOR CHILDREN COULD BE ELIGIBLE

FOR SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFITS.

>> OKAY.

>> AND THEN DIVORCED SPOUSES MAY QUALIFY.

>> REALLY?

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> OH.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

THERE ARE SOME RULES THAT GO ALONG WITH DIVORCED

SPOUSES BEING ELIGIBLE.

IN PARTICULAR HAVE TO BE AGE 62, AND HAVE TO HAVE BEEN MARRIED

TEN YEARS TO THE PERSON -- >> OKAY.

>> -- WHO WORKED AND EARNED THE CREDITS,

AND CAN'T BE MARRIED AT THE TIME,

AT THE TIME THEY FILED TO BE ELIGIBLE.

>> MAKES SENSE.

>> BUT, YEAH, DIVORCED SPOUSE, WE OFFER SOME PROTECTION FOR

DIVORCED SPOUSES AS WELL.

>> THAT'S, OKAY, SO THERE'S RESOURCES

AVAILABLE POTENTIALLY EVEN FOR FAMILY MEMBERS --

>> YOU GOT IT.

>> -- OF EARNERS.

OKAY, SO WE HAVE COVERED THE TOP FIVE.

LET'S SEE IF I REMEMBER THEM CORRECTLY.

>> GOOD OF YOU TO ASK. >> AND IF I DIDN'T,

THEN PLEASE JUST JUMP ON IN.

>> OKAY, SURE.

>> THE FIRST ONE IS TO KNOW YOUR RETIREMENT AGE.

>> VERY GOOD.

>> THE SECOND ONE IS TO USE THE TOOLS AVAILABLE,

AND THERE A LOT OF THEM ON SOCIALSECURITY.GOV.

>> VERY GOOD.

>> THE THIRD ONE IS THAT YOU CAN WORK AFTER YOU

START RECEIVING SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFITS.

>> MM-HMM.

>> THE FOURTH ONE IS THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW HOW YOUR RETIREMENT

BENEFIT IS CALCULATED.

>> MM-HMM. >> AND THE FIFTH IS THAT

FAMILY MEMBERS ARE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE BENEFITS POTENTIALLY.

>> YOU GOT IT.

>> OKAY.

>> VERY GOOD.

>> SO, HA!

I REMEMBERED.

I LEARNED A LOT IN THESE FEW MINUTES.

>> GOOD.

>> WE ARE GOING TO JUMP TO SOME QUESTIONS.

I THINK SOME PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SENDING IN QUESTIONS

TO US ON OUR FACEBOOK.

>> LET'S DO IT.

SOUNDS GOOD.

>> SO ARE YOU READY?

>> YEAH.

>> LET'S SEE WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING.

PLEASE TECHNOLOGY WORK.

I LOVE TECHNOLOGY, EXCEPT WHEN IT DOESN'T LOVE ME.

OKAY.

SCROLL -- OKAY, HERE WE GO.

>> OKAY.

>> WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY BENEFITS -- REQUIREMENTS,

I'M SORRY, FOR SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS?

>> OKAY, WE TOUCHED ON THIS A LITTLE BIT EARLIER,

BUT THAT'S A REALLY GOOD QUESTION.

JUST GIVES AN OPPORTUNITY TO RECAP.

SO, IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR SOCIAL SECURITY

RETIREMENT BENEFITS, YOU NEED TO HAVE WORKED IN A JOB

WHERE YOU PAID SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS -- SOCIAL SECURITY

TAXES, EXCUSE ME, FOR 10 YEARS.

SO, BASICALLY, IT WORKS LIKE THIS.

YOU HAVE TO -- WHEN YOU WORK IN A JOB THAT PAYS

SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES, YOU EARN WHAT WE CALL CREDITS.

>> OKAY.

>> AND THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF CREDITS YOU EARN IN

ONE YEAR IS FOUR.

SO THAT'S WHERE WE GET THE 10 YEARS OF WORK.

YOU NEED 40 CREDITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A SOCIAL SECURITY

RETIREMENT BENEFIT.

SO, AGAIN, THAT'S WHERE WE COME UP WITH

THAT KIND OF 10 YEARS OF WORK.

SO YOU NEED 40 CREDITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A SOCIAL SECURITY

RETIREMENT BENEFIT.

YOU HAVE TO BE AGE 62, AT LEAST AGE 62,

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A BENEFIT.

BUT AGAIN, REMEMBER, AT AGE 62, IF YOU ELECT TO RECEIVE BENEFITS

WITH SOCIAL SECURITY AT THAT AGE, THAT'S A REDUCTION,

AND A PERMANENT REDUCTION IF YOU START USING IT.

>> CANNOT GET -- >> THAT'S RIGHT.

AND THEN YOU CAN WORK, BUT YOU'RE SUBJECT TO SOME

EARNINGS LIMITS IF YOU DO DECIDE TO WORK.

SO YOU NEED TO WORK ABOUT 10 YEARS TO EARN 40 CREDITS WITH

SOCIAL SECURITY TO EARN A RETIREMENT BENEFIT,

AND YOU NEED TO AT LEAST BE AGE 62 TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A SOCIAL

SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFIT.

>> OKAY.

ANOTHER QUESTION IS: I'LL BE 62 IN A FEW MONTHS --

NOT ME, BUT THIS PERSON.

HOW MANY MONTHS PRIOR TO MY BIRTHDAY CAN I

APPLY FOR BENEFITS?

>> YOU CAN APPLY FOR BENEFITS ABOUT THREE MONTHS,

THREE OR FOUR MONTHS PRIOR TO YOUR BIRTHDAY IF YOU

WANT YOUR BENEFITS TO BEGIN ON YOUR BIRTHDAY.

YOU CAN DO THAT A NUMBER OF WAYS.

I TALKED ABOUT SOME OF THE WONDERFUL TOOLS WE HAVE ONLINE

AT SOCIALSECURITY.GOV.

YOU CAN ACTUALLY APPLY FOR BENEFITS,

SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFITS, ONLINE.

>> OH.

>> SO IT'S A GREAT PLACE TO -- ALMOST LIKE A ONE-STOP SHOP.

WE TALKED ABOUT SOME OF THE TOOLS WE HAVE AVAILABLE

AT SOCIALSECURITY.GOV.

WE TALKED ABOUT THE RETIREMENT CHECKLIST.

>> RIGHT, ABSOLUTELY.

>> THAT YOU CAN GO THROUGH THE CHECKLIST AND THEN

YOU CAN ACTUALLY COMPLETE THE PROCESS AND ACTUALLY

FILE FOR BENEFITS ONLINE.

IT COULD BE DONE IN AS LITTLE AS 15 MINUTES AND YOU DON'T HAVE

TO EITHER COME TO AN OFFICE OR CALL US ON THE 1-800 NUMBER.

YOU CAN ACTUALLY TAKE CARE OF THAT RIGHT IN THE

COMFORT OF YOUR OWN HOME.

>> SO YOU CAN DO THE TRANSACTION FROM THE WEBSITE.

>> YOU CAN DO THE TRANSACTION FROM THE WEBSITE.

>> THAT'S GOOD TO KNOW.

THAT'S DEFINITELY A GOOD -- I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT YOU

COULD DO THAT MUCH THERE.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> OKAY.

MOVING RIGHT ALONG.

CAN YOU TELL ME HOW MANY WORK YEARS AND WHAT INCOME

LEVELS ARE USED IN THE BENEFIT OF CALCULATIONS?

>> SO AGAIN, WE TOUCHED ON THIS A LITTLE BIT EARLIER.

YOU NEED A -- WE LOOK AT YOUR FULL 35 YEARS OF WORK

HISTORY WITH SOCIAL SECURITY.

SO IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN 35 YEARS,

WE LOOK AT YOUR HIGHEST 35 YEARS --

>> OKAY.

>> -- WHEN FACTORING IN YOUR RETIREMENT BENEFIT OR WHAT

YOUR RETIREMENT BENEFIT IS GOING TO LOOK LIKE,

AND THAT'S WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT, YOUR FULL RETIREMENT.

>> OKAY.

>> WE'RE CALCULATING WHAT YOUR FULL RETIREMENT BENEFIT IS.

THERE IS A CALCULATION INVOLVED BEHIND THAT,

A BENEFIT FORMULA BEHIND THAT.

IT'S PROBABLY A LITTLE TOO COMPLICATED TO GO IN DEPTH FOR

THE PURPOSES OF THIS PROGRAM.

>> OKAY.

>> BUT YOU CAN FIND THOSE RESOURCES ONLINE TO BE

ABLE TO SEE HOW A BENEFIT CALCULATION IS DONE, ABSOLUTELY.

>> OKAY.

>> BUT WE'RE LOOKING AT YOUR 35 HIGHEST YEARS OF EARNINGS.

>> OKAY.

AND THERE'S ANOTHER QUESTION ON HERE ABOUT WHAT ABOUT FOR

SOMEONE WHO'S SELF-EMPLOYED?

HOW DOES SOCIAL SECURITY WORK FOR SOMEONE WHO'S SELF-EMPLOYED

OR OWNS THEIR OWN BUSINESS.

>> SO FOLKS WHO ARE SELF-EMPLOYED ARE STILL

PAYING SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES.

>> OKAY.

>> AND SO WE'RE STILL LOOKING AT THAT 40 CREDITS

THEY NEED TO EARN, SO THAT THE RULES DON'T

NECESSARILY CHANGE -- >> OKAY.

>> -- FOR SOMEBODY WHO'S SELF-EMPLOYED.

FOLKS WHO ARE SELF-EMPLOYED STILL NEED TO PAY SOCIAL

SECURITY TAXES IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE ULTIMATELY FOR

A SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFIT.

SO WE'RE STILL LOOKING AT ABOUT THAT TEN YEARS

OF SELF-EMPLOYMENT IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A

SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFIT.

>> OKAY.

>> YEAH.

>> THAT'S GOOD TO KNOW.

DOES A PERSON NEED 35 YEARS CONSECUTIVE YEARS OF

WORK TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR RETIREMENT BENEFITS,

OR IF THEY TOOK A PAUSE FROM THE WORK FORCE,

HOW DOES THAT WORK IF THERE'S A GAP?

>> GOOD, GOOD, QUESTION.

NO, THE YEARS DON'T HAVE TO BE CONSECUTIVE.

>> OKAY.

>> WE TALKED ABOUT JUST LOOKING AT YOUR 35

HIGHEST YEARS OF EARNINGS.

ONE THING WE DIDN'T TALK ABOUT A LITTLE EARLIER THAT

I THINK THIS QUESTION BRINGS TO MIND IS IF SOMEBODY

DOESN'T HAVE 35 YEARS OF WORK.

SO IN THAT CALCULATION, WE'RE PLUGGING ZEROS

INTO THAT EQUATION.

SO IF YOU HAVE 30 YEARS OF WORK, WE'RE LOOKING AT 30 --

YOUR 30 HIGHEST YEARS OF EARNINGS OR YOUR COMPLETE

30 YEARS OF EARNINGS, AND WE HAVE TO PLUG ZEROS INTO

THAT EQUATION TO DETERMINE WHAT YOUR MONTHLY SOCIAL SECURITY

BENEFIT WILL ULTIMATELY BE.

BUT TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION, NO.

THE 35 YEARS HIGHEST EARNINGS DO NOT HAVE TO BE CONSECUTIVE.

WE'RE LOOKING AT YOUR 35 HIGHEST YEARS OVER THE

LIFETIME OF YOUR EARNINGS.

>> THAT'S -- I THINK THAT HELPS A LOT,

A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO TOOK GAPS OR, YOU KNOW,

WORK FROM HOME -- YOU KNOW, DIDN'T WORK OUT OF

THE HOME OR WHATEVER.

>> ONE OTHER EXAMPLE WE DIDN'T TALK ABOUT A LITTLE BIT EARLIER,

BUT THAT KIND OF WILL HELP DRIVE THIS ANSWER HOME.

WE TALKED ABOUT WORKING AFTER YOU START RECEIVING

SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS.

IF ONCE YOU'RE FULL RETIREMENT AGE YOU CONTINUE TO WORK AND

THOSE EARNINGS AREN'T HAVING ANY IMPACT OR NOT REDUCING YOUR

BENEFIT BECAUSE YOU REACHED YOUR FULL RETIREMENT AGE,

IF YOU CONTINUE TO WORK AND THOSE EARNINGS THAT YOU HAVE

LATER AFTER RECEIVING A BENEFIT REPLACE ONE OF THE

35 HIGHEST YEARS WE'VE ALREADY USED IN THE COMPUTATION,

WE WILL RECOMPUTE THE BENEFITS AUTOMATICALLY AND YOU DON'T

REALLY HAVE TO COME IN AT ALL AND DO ANYTHING.

WE'LL RECOMPUTE THE BENEFITS AUTOMATICALLY.

AND IF THERE IS AN INCREASE IN YOUR BENEFIT THAT YOU'RE DUE,

WE'LL SEND YOU THAT AUTOMATICALLY.

>> OH, WOW.

THAT'S -- I WOULD NEVER THINK THAT THAT ADJUSTMENT WOULD

HAPPEN, SO THAT'S BENEFICIAL.

>> SURE.

>> LET'S SEE WHAT THE NEXT QUESTION IS.

THEY'RE COMING IN.

HOW DO RETIREMENT BENEFITS DIFFER FROM DISABILITY BENEFITS?

>> GREAT QUESTION.

HOW DO RETIREMENT BENEFITS DIFFER FROM DISABILITY

BENEFITS WITH SOCIAL SECURITY?

SO REMEMBER I TALKED ABOUT YOU NEED ABOUT TEN YEARS OF WORK

WITH SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT.

>> YES.

>> TEN YEARS OF WORK AT JOBS WHERE YOU PAID SOCIAL SECURITY

TAXES TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A RETIREMENT BENEFIT

WITH SOCIAL SECURITY.

WITH DISABILITY BENEFITS, YOU DON'T NEED

QUITE AS MUCH WORK.

IT DEPENDS ON YOUR AGE AT THE TIME.

BUT THE DISABILITY REQUIREMENT IS SOMETHING THAT'S DIFFERENT

IN THAT IT REQUIRES US TO MAKE A DETERMINATION ON WHETHER

OR NOT YOU MEET OUR RULES FOR DISABILITY BENEFITS.

SO IT'S NOT JUST THAT YOU'VE EARNED THE CREDITS NECESSARILY,

BUT YOU ALSO HAVE TO MEET A VERY STRINGENT DECISION WITH REGARD

TO WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE UNABLE TO WORK AND ARE DISABLED.

SO IT'S NOT JUST YOU HAVING THE CREDITS, FOR THE CREDITS, AGAIN,

YOU DON'T NEED AS MANY.

DEPENDING ON YOUR AGE, YOU DON'T NECESSARILY NEED

AS MANY TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A RETIREMENT BENEFIT

WITH SOCIAL SECURITY.

BUT THERE'S ALSO A DECISION THAT HAS TO BE MADE WITH REGARD

TO WHETHER OR NOT YOU MEET OUR RULES FOR DISABILITY BENEFITS.

>> OKAY.

IT'S ANOTHER LEVEL.

AND CAN SOMEONE, I MEAN, THEORETICALLY, CAN SOMEONE

RECEIVE DISABILITY AND RETIREMENT BENEFITS

AT THE SAME TIME?

>> NO, NOT TYPICAL.

SO LET'S SAY, LET'S USE A HYPOTHETICAL.

LET'S SAY SOMEBODY HAS APPLIED FOR SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY

BENEFITS, BEEN APPROVED, RECEIVING DISABILITY

BENEFITS WITH SOCIAL SECURITY, BUT THEN ONCE THEY REACH

THEIR FULL RETIREMENT AGE THAT BENEFIT SHIFTS FROM A DISABILITY

BENEFIT TO A RETIREMENT BENEFIT.

>> OH, OKAY.

>> OKAY.

AND REALLY, IT COMES DOWN TO HOW THEY'RE

PAID AND FROM WHICH TRUST FUND.

WE HAVE TWO TRUST FUNDS, THE OLD AGE AND SURVIVORS

TRUST FUND, EXCUSE ME, AND THE DISABILITY

INSURANCE TRUST FUND.

>> OKAY.

>> SO ONCE THAT PERSON REACHES, WHO'S ALREADY RECEIVING SOCIAL

SECURITY DISABILITY BENEFITS, ONCE THEY REACH THEIR

FULL RETIREMENT AGE, WE NO LONGER PAY FROM

THE DISABILITY TRUST FUND, THOSE BENEFITS ARE PAID

FROM THE RETIREMENT TRUST FUND, IF YOU WILL.

>> THAT MAKES SENSE.

YOU GUYS ARE SENDING GREAT QUESTIONS IN,

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> YEAH, KEEP THEM COMING, PLEASE.

>> YES.

NEXT QUESTION UP.

WHEN AND WHERE CAN SOMEONE GET AN SSA-1099?

>> OH, GREAT QUESTION.

SO I MENTIONED MYSOCIALSECURITY.GOV.

WE HAVE -- YOU CAN CREATE A "MY SOCIAL SECURITY"

ACCOUNT WITH SOCIAL SECURITY AT SOCIALSECURITY.GOV/MY ACCOUNT,

AND JUST FOR BACKGROUND PURPOSES,

A 1099 IS A CONFIRMATION OF WHAT BENEFITS THE

INDIVIDUAL HAS RECEIVED FROM SOCIAL SECURITY FOR THE YEAR.

SO THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE SEND OUT AUTOMATICALLY TO INDIVIDUALS

WHO ARE ALREADY RECEIVING BENEFITS WITH SOCIAL SECURITY,

JUST GIVES THEM PROOF OF WHAT THEY RECEIVED FROM

US FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR.

IF THEY MISPLACE IT OR IF THEY LOSE IT THEY CAN CREATE

A SOCIAL SECURITY ACCOUNT, GO ONLINE, AND GET A 1099

STATEMENT RIGHT AT THEIR MY SOCIAL SECURITY ACCOUNT.

>> GREAT.

ON DEMAND.

>> ON DEMAND.

>> OKAY.

>> YOU GOT IT.

>> THE SOCIALSECURITY.GOV MY ACCOUNT IS VERY PRACTICAL.

I HOPE EVERYONE, IF YOU HAVEN'T --

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> -- DEFINITELY GOES AND SIGNS UP TO GET ONE.

IT'S REALLY EASY.

>> WE HAVE -- THERE ARE SERVICES AVAILABLE FOR FOLKS

WHO DON'T RECEIVE BENEFITS.

WE TALKED ABOUT THE SOCIAL SECURITY STATEMENT.

>> YES.

>> SO IF YOU'RE NOT RECEIVING BENEFITS FROM SOCIAL

SECURITY YOU CAN LOG ON, CREATE AN ACCOUNT -- EXCUSE

ME -- CREATE AN ACCOUNT OR LOG IN AND GET YOUR STATEMENT

ON DEMAND, REAL TIME.

>> YES.

>> FOR FOLKS WHO ARE RECEIVING BENEFITS,

YOU CAN GET THINGS LIKE THAT 1099,

IF YOU LOSE OR MISPLACE IT.

SO WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY.

>> YES.

I USE IT, I'M NOWHERE NEAR RECEIVING BENEFITS AT ALL,

BUT I -- >> BUT YOU ARE CHECKING

YOUR STATEMENT.

>> BUT I AM CHECKING MY STATEMENT AND CHECKING IN,

SO DEFINITELY.

>> VERY GOOD.

>> OKAY.

NEXT QUESTION.

CAN SOMEONE GET BENEFITS OFF OF THEIR EX-SPOUSE'S RECORD?

>> YES.

SO WE TOUCHED ON THAT A LITTLE BIT EARLIER IN THE BROADCAST.

SO WE TALKED ABOUT DIVORCED SPOUSE BENEFITS.

THERE ARE SOME STIPULATIONS THAT MUST BE MET,

THERE ARE SOME RULES TO ADHERE TO.

SO IF AN INDIVIDUAL, IF A DIVORCED SPOUSE HAS

BEEN MARRIED TO THE WORKER, THE PERSON WHO WORKED AND EARNED

THE CREDITS FOR AT LEAST TEN YEARS, THEY'VE REACHED AGE 62,

THAT'S THE FIRST AGE WHICH YOU CAN RETIRE WITH SOCIAL SECURITY,

WHETHER YOU'RE THE WORKER OR THE SPOUSE,

AND THEN THAT DIVORCED SPOUSE CAN'T BE MARRIED AT THE TIME

THEY APPLY FOR BENEFITS.

BUT, YES, AN EX-SPOUSE, ABSOLUTELY, CAN BE

ELIGIBLE FOR BENEFITS BASED ON THE WORKER'S RECORD.

>> OKAY.

IF SOMEONE PASSES AWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH,

WILL A FAMILY MEMBER STILL GET THE CHECK OR BE

ABLE TO KEEP THE CHECK?

>> THAT'S A REALLY GOOD QUESTION, MARIETTA,

WE GET THAT A LOT.

NO, TYPICALLY IF -- FOR A SOCIAL SECURITY

BENEFICIARY WHO IS ALREADY RECEIVING BENEFITS,

THEY NEED TO BE ALIVE FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH TO RECEIVE THE

BENEFIT CHECK FOR THAT MONTH.

SO IF SOMEONE PASSES AWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH

THEY WOULD NEED TO RETURN THAT MONTH'S BENEFIT CHECK.

>> THE FAMILY WOULD HAVE TO.

>> YOU GOT IT.

YOU GOT IT.

>> OKAY.

SWITCHING GEARS A LITTLE BIT, IT'S A LITTLE OFF TOPIC BUT YOU

KNOW SOCIAL SECURITY SO I THINK YOU CAN ANSWER THIS ONE FOR US.

>> SURE.

>> WHERE CAN SOMEONE GET A SOCIAL SECURITY CARD?

CAN THEY GET IT OVER THE INTERNET?

>> OH, REALLY GREAT QUESTION.

IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE.

>> OKAY.

>> BUT YOU ABSOLUTELY MAY BE ABLE TO.

>> OKAY.

>> SO WE HAVE A RELATIVELY NEW FEATURE WITH

"MY SOCIAL SECURITY" CALLED INTERNET SOCIAL SECURITY

NUMBER REPLACEMENT CARD.

SO WE HAVE AGREEMENTS WITH 24 STATES CURRENTLY,

AND -- 24 STATES AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA --

>> OKAY.

>> -- OR D.C. MARYLAND IS ONE OF THOSE STATES --

>> OKAY.

>> -- WHERE YOU CAN ACTUALLY CREATE AN ACCOUNT OR LOG

INTO YOUR "MY SOCIAL SECURITY" ACCOUNT AND ACTUALLY APPLY

FOR A REPLACEMENT CARD -- >> ONLINE?

>> -- ONLINE.

NOW, THERE IS ONE THING, ONE CAVEAT.

IF YOU'RE APPLYING FOR THAT REPLACEMENT CARD ONLINE IT HAS

TO BE JUST A REPLACEMENT CARD, EITHER YOU LOST IT.

IF YOU'RE CHANGING YOUR NAME, WHICH FOLKS OFTEN DO WITH US

WHEN THEY COME TO UPDATE THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY RECORDS,

YOU CAN'T DO THAT ONLINE.

>> OKAY.

>> EVEN IN THOSE 24 STATES AND D.C.

SO IF YOU'RE IN ONE OF THESE STATES AND YOU CAN FIND THOSE

ONLINE AT SOCIALSECURITY.GOV.

>> OKAY.

>> THE STATES THAT ARE PARTICIPATING,

YOU HAVE TO JUST BE REPLACING A LOST CARD,

MAKING NO CHANGES TO YOUR RECORD NECESSARILY.

BUT, YEAH, I MEAN, FOLKS CAN DO THAT ONLINE,

DEPENDING ON WHERE THEY LIVE.

>> THAT STREAMLINES PROCESSES FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE IN 24 STATES

AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.

>> YES.

>> IF IT'S JUST A STRAIGHT REPLACEMENT OF JUST I

LOST IT OR I NEED A NEW ONE.

>> YOU GOT IT.

TYPICALLY, THOUGH, IF YOU'RE MAKING A CHANGE,

EVEN IF YOU LIVE IN ONE OF THOSE STATES AND YOU'RE MAKING A

CHANGE OR YOU DON'T LIVE IN ONE OF THOSE STATES AND YOU'RE JUST

GETTING A REPLACEMENT CARD, YOU NEED TO VISIT YOUR

LOCAL SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE TO DO THAT.

>> OKAY.

ANOTHER QUESTION.

>> OKAY.

>> ARE SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS TAXABLE?

>> YES, SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS ARE TAXABLE.

>> OKAY.

>> AGAIN, THIS INFORMATION YOU CAN FIND ONLINE

AT SOCIALSECURITY.GOV.

BUT DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS

ARE IN COMBINATION WITH OTHER INCOME YOU HAVE IN RETIREMENT,

YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS MAY BE SUBJECT

TO INCOME TAX FOR SURE.

SO YOU CAN FIND A LOT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT SOCIAL

SECURITY BENEFITS.

WE HAVE A GREAT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS SECTION --

>> OKAY.

>> -- THAT COVERS A LOT OF THESE TOPICS THAT

WE'RE COVERING TODAY.

AND SO YOU CAN FIND OUT EXACT AMOUNTS ABOUT HOW

MUCH INCOME YOU HAVE BEFORE YOUR BENEFITS ARE TAXABLE.

BUT YES, TO ANSWER THE QUESTION, SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS

MAY ABSOLUTELY BE SUBJECT TO INCOME TAX.

>> OKAY.

THAT'S GOOD TO KNOW.

I THINK THAT'S VERY GOOD TO KNOW.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> THIS PERSON SAYS, I AM WIDOWED.

CAN I APPLY FOR MY HUSBAND'S BENEFITS IF HIS ARE

HIGHER WHEN I'M 60, AND THEN SWITCH OVER

TO MINE WHEN I'M 66?

>> THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION.

IT DEPENDS ON YOUR AGE -- >> OKAY.

>> -- AND YOUR YEAR OF BIRTH.

BUT THAT POTENTIALLY IS POSSIBLE.

I WOULD ENCOURAGE ALL OF OUR FOLKS TO VISIT

SOCIALSECURITY.GOV, GO ONLINE AND FIND OUT MORE

INFORMATION ABOUT SOME OF THE RULES REGARDING WHETHER

OR NOT YOU CAN RECEIVE YOUR OWN BENEFITS AND SWITCH TO A

SPOUSE'S BENEFIT OR RECEIVE A SPOUSE'S BENEFIT AND LATER

SWITCH TO YOUR OWN BENEFIT.

TYPICALLY, THOUGH, FOR MOST FOLKS,

ONCE YOU APPLY FOR BENEFITS, WHETHER IT'S A SPOUSE,

DIVORCED SPOUSE, OR WIDOW'S BENEFITS,

YOU HAVE TO APPLY FOR YOUR OWN, AS WELL, WHICH YOU'VE

WORKED AND PAID INTO AND CONTRIBUTED.

SO FOR MOST PEOPLE, YES, APPLYING FOR BENEFITS

MEANS YOU'RE APPLYING FOR ALL THE BENEFITS YOU CAN

POTENTIALLY BE ELIGIBLE FOR. AND TYPICALLY WE HAVE TO

PAY YOUR BENEFIT FIRST, WHICH YOU WOULD BE DUE

BASED ON YOUR WORK RECORD.

>> ON YOUR OWN RECORD.

>> DEPENDING ON WHEN YOU WERE BORN, IT COULD BE POSSIBLE

THAT YOU COULD HAVE A CHOICE AS TO WHICH BENEFIT

RECORD YOU WANT TO START RECEIVING BENEFITS ON FIRST.

>> OKAY.

WE STILL HAVE QUESTIONS COMING IN.

YOU'RE DOING OKAY, B.J.? >> I'M GOOD.

>> OKAY, OKAY.

YOU GUYS ARE POURING THEM IN.

I'M GLAD ABOUT IT.

>> OKAY.

>> IF SOMEONE RETIRES AT 66 BUT CONTINUES TO WORK,

CAN THEIR BENEFITS INCREASE OVER TIME?

>> YEAH.

WE ACTUALLY TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS.

BUT I'LL TRY TO DRIVE HOME THE POINT A LITTLE

MORE CLEARLY THIS TIME.

BUT YES.

SO IF SOMEBODY REACHES -- AND ASSUMING 66 IS THEIR

FULL RETIREMENT AGE.

>> OKAY.

>> WE'LL MAKE THAT ASSUMPTION WITH THIS QUESTION.

BUT YES, IF SOMEBODY IS WORKING, RECEIVING SOCIAL

SECURITY BENEFITS, AND OVER THE FULL

RETIREMENT AGE THEIR BENEFITS WILL NOT BE REDUCED,

BECAUSE OF THEIR WORKING.

>> RIGHT.

>> BECAUSE THEY'RE OVER THEIR FULL RETIREMENT AGE.

>> RIGHT.

>> THEY'RE NOT SUBJECT TO THOSE EARNINGS LIMITS

WE TALKED ABOUT BEFORE.

BUT YES, IF THEY'RE CONTINUING TO WORK AND RECEIVING BENEFITS,

IF ONE OF THOSE LATER YEARS, THE CURRENT WORK YEAR OR LATER

WOULD REPLACE ONE OF THE 35 YEARS WE'VE ALREADY USED

IN THE CALCULATION, YES, THEIR BENEFITS COULD

POTENTIALLY BE INCREASED, YES. >> AND THAT'S PART OF THAT

WHOLE 35-YEAR CALCULATION.

>> YOU GOT IT. AND THAT'S PART OF,

WE TALKED ABOUT THAT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT THE PERSON

HAS TO INITIATE, YOU KNOW, RATHER PAYING TAXES,

WE'LL GET THAT INFORMATION ULTIMATELY AND MAKE THOSE

CHANGES AUTOMATICALLY AND THEN PAY THEM WHATEVER BENEFIT

THEY'RE DUE, IF, IN FACT, THEY'RE POTENTIALLY

DUE MORE BENEFITS.

>> AND YOU DO IT AUTOMATICALLY.

>> YOU GOT IT.

>> THAT IS A LOT OF GOOD INFORMATION HERE.

DOES SOMEONE NEED TO GO TO A SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE

TO APPLY FOR MEDICARE?

>> OH, REALLY GOOD QUESTION.

NO.

WE ACTUALLY HAVE A MEDICARE ONLY APPLICATION ONLINE --

>> OH.

>> -- AT SOCIALSECURITY.GOV, TOO.

>> YOU'RE DOING A LOT.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

WE'RE TRYING TO GIVE FOLKS OPTIONS --

>> OKAY.

>> -- AND CHOICES FOR HOW TO DO BUSINESS WITH US.

AND SO WE WANT TO TRY AND MAKE IT EASIER FOR THEM

TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> SO WE WANT TO OFFER THEM CHOICES.

BUT YES, TO ANSWER THE QUESTION, I GUESS TO ANSWER THE QUESTION,

NO, THEY DON'T HAVE TO GO TO --

>> THEY DON'T HAVE TO.

>> -- THE SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE TO APPLY FOR MEDICARE.

YOU CAN DO THAT ONLINE.

>> OKAY.

>> SO A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MEDICARE.

WE DIDN'T SPEND A WHOLE LOT OF TIME ON THIS WHEN WE WERE GOING

THROUGH THE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW TO START RECEIVING

SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS.

BUT IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THE AGE FOR MEDICARE IS STILL 65.

>> OKAY.

>> AND SO IF SOMEBODY STARTS RECEIVING BENEFITS BEFORE THAT,

SO THEY START BENEFITS AT 62 OR SOMETIME EARLY,

BUT START RECEIVING THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFITS,

THEY WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY SIGNED UP FOR MEDICARE ONCE

THEY APPROACH AGE 65, OKAY.

THEY WILL HAVE TO ACTUALLY LET US KNOW IF THEY DON'T WANT IT

OR IF THEY WANT TO DECLINE IT.

>> OH, OKAY.

>> IF SOMEBODY DELAYS RECEIVING THE SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT

BENEFITS UNTIL AFTER 65, YES, THEY WOULD NEED TO COME TO US TO

APPLY IN ONE OF THOSE FASHIONS AND THEY CAN DO THAT ONLINE.

THEY CAN APPLY FOR MEDICARE ONLY ONLINE AT SOCIALSECURITY.GOV.

>> SOCIALSECURITY.GOV IS THE PLACE TO GO.

>> I THINK SO.

>> SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A LOT THERE.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> WE HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION HERE.

>> OKAY.

>> THIS PERSON SAYS, IT'S THEIR 70TH BIRTHDAY IS IN

DECEMBER OF THIS YEAR, 2018, WHEN SHOULD THEY APPLY

FOR BENEFITS TO START COLLECTING SOCIAL SECURITY

BENEFITS IN JANUARY '19?

LIKE THEY WANT TO START RECEIVING BENEFITS THE

MONTH AFTER THEIR BIRTHDAY.

>> OKAY.

AGAIN, I WOULD STILL ENCOURAGE FOLKS TO COME TO US ABOUT

THREE OR FOUR MONTHS BEFORE THEY'RE READY FOR

THOSE BENEFITS TO BEGIN.

BUT BE VERY CLEAR WHETHER YOU'RE APPLYING

WITH US ONLINE OR WHETHER YOU'RE APPLYING WITH US OVER

THE TELEPHONE OR GOING TO YOUR LOCAL SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE,

JUST BE VERY CLEAR ABOUT WHEN YOU WANT

THOSE BENEFITS TO START.

>> OKAY.

YOU CAN SPECIFY THAT?

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> OKAY.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

AND I WOULD BE VERY CLEAR ABOUT THAT.

AGAIN, YOU CAN DO THAT IN ANY OF THOSE CHANNELS.

YOU CAN COULD THAT ONLINE.

YOU CAN DO THAT OVER THE TELEPHONE.

YOU CAN DO THAT IN ONE OF OUR OFFICES.

JUST BE VERY SPECIFIC ABOUT WHEN YOU WANT

THOSE BENEFITS TO BEGIN.

>> OKAY.

WELL, IT LOOKS LIKE WE'VE GONE THROUGH OUR LITTLE --

HIT OUR TIME, I GUESS WE'D SAY.

>> OKAY.

>> LOOKS LIKE WE'RE ABOUT OUT OF TIME.

BUT WHERE CAN SOMEONE GO -- I THINK YOU SAID IT,

BUT JUST WANT TO HIT IT HOME -- WHERE SHOULD SOMEONE GO TO GET

ANY MORE INFORMATION ABOUT RETIREMENT BENEFITS

AT SOCIAL SECURITY?

>> ABSOLUTELY.

VISIT US AT SOCIALSECURITY.GOV.

MARIETTA TALKED A LITTLE BIT OFF CAMERA ABOUT HOW SOCIAL

SECURITY IS REALLY WITH YOU THROUGH LIFE'S JOURNEY.

>> YES.

>> YOU CAN DO SO MUCH THERE.

WE TALKED ABOUT HOW WE'RE WITH YOU WHEN YOUR PARENTS APPLY

FOR A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

YOU OFTEN COME TO US IF YOU NEED A SOCIAL SECURITY

CARD FOR YOUR FIRST JOB -- >> YES.

>> -- IF YOU'RE A TEENAGER.

IF YOU GET MARRIED AND CHANGE YOUR NAME,

YOU COME TO SOCIAL SECURITY.

WE TALKED A LOT TODAY ABOUT RETIREMENT BENEFITS

AND VISITING US FOR THAT.

DISABILITY BENEFITS, IF SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN,

YOU CAN NO LONGER WORK.

AND SURVIVORS BENEFITS.

HEAVEN FORBID -- >> ABSOLUTELY.

>> -- SOMEONE HAPPENS TO YOU, YOUR FAMILY HAS PROTECTION

BEHIND THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION AND

SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS.

SO WE'RE REALLY WITH YOU THROUGH LIFE'S JOURNEY AND YOU CAN LEARN

MORE ABOUT EVERYTHING WE'VE TALKED ABOUT TONIGHT AND SO MUCH

MORE AT SOCIALSECURITY.GOV.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH, B.J. FOR --

>> THANK YOU.

>> -- BEING HERE WITH US -- >> THANK YOU, MARIETTA.

>> -- AND SHARING SO MUCH GREAT INFORMATION.

I DIDN'T EVEN IMAGINE ALL THIS WAS AVAILABLE --

>> THANK YOU.

>> -- WITH ALL THE DETAILS.

SO YOU CLEARED A LOT OF THINGS UP, SO THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> AND THANK YOU ALL FOR WATCHING US THIS

EVENING ON THIS BROADCAST.

IT WILL BE CLOSED CAPTIONED AND POSTED ON BOTH THE

USA.GOV AND THE SOCIAL SECURITY YOUTUBE CHANNELS,

SO WATCH FOR THAT IN A FEW WEEKS.

IF YOU WANT TO SHARE IT WITH FAMILY OR FRIENDS,

WATCH IT AGAIN, YOU MISSED SOMETHING,

IN THE COMING WEEKS WE'RE GOING TO BE TACKLING ALL THE

QUESTIONS THAT YOU SUBMITTED, SO DON'T THINK THAT

WE'VE FORGOTTEN YOU.

WE HAVE NOT.

WE'RE GOING TO GET THOSE ANSWERED FOR YOU.

AND IF YOU HAVE MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT GOVERNMENT THINGS,

MAYBE WE TALKED ABOUT, YOU KNOW, RETIREMENT TODAY,

A SIMPLE GUIDE TO HELP YOU RETIRE WITH PEACE OF MIND.

>> HELLO, IT'S ME, PROFESSOR KNOWITALL, AND YES,

I'LL BE GIVING YOU THE VERY BEST TIPS SO YOU CAN

RETIRE WITH PEACE OF MIND.

>> HELLO, PROFESSOR.

ARE YOU NOW AN EXPERT ON THAT TOPIC?

>> OF COURSE.

>> OH, OKAY.

SO YOU'RE ALL READY FOR RETIREMENT?

>> OF COURSE I'M READY.

>> SO THEN YOU HAVE MONEY SAVED.

>> WELL, NOT EXACTLY.

BUT I HAVE A PLAN.

I WILL LIVE WITH MY KIDS.

>> LIVING WITH YOUR FAMILY DURING RETIREMENT

CAN BE VERY GRATIFYING, BUT SURELY YOU DON'T WANT

TO BE A BURDEN ON THEM.

DID YOU KNOW THAT PEOPLE IN THE UNITED STATES ON AVERAGE

LIVE 20 YEARS AFTER THEY RETIRE?

IN GENERAL, PEOPLE NEED ALMOST 80% OF WHAT THEY

EARN IN ORDER TO LIVE COMFORTABLY AFTER RETIRING.

>> OH.

>> THAT'S A LOT OF MONEY.

SO YOU'LL DEFINITELY NEED A GOOD PLAN IN ORDER TO GET THERE.

OKAY, DON'T PANIC YET.

IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO START OR EVEN TOO EARLY.

LET ME TELL YOU WHAT YOU SHOULD DO SO THAT THE NEXT TIME,

YOU CAN GIVE PEOPLE GOOD ADVICE.

>> SOUNDS GOOD.

>> PROFESSOR, ACCORDING TO THE CONSUMER ACTION HANDBOOK,

THE FIRST THING IS RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF

SAVING FOR RETIREMENT.

THE THREE MOST COMMON OPTIONS ARE:

1, PENSION BENEFITS OFFERED BY SOME PLACES OF EMPLOYMENT.

2, SAVINGS AND INVESTMENTS STARTED BY YOU.

3, SOCIAL SECURITY, WHICH IS THE FEDERAL

I'M TALKING ABOUT RETIREMENT PLANS IN WHICH IF YOU SAVE,

YOUR COMPANY WILL MATCH A PERCENTAGE OF THE

CONTRIBUTIONS YOU MAKE.

>> OH, THAT'S LIKE FREE MONEY.

>> EXACTLY.

SOMETIMES YOU IMPRESS ME, PROFESSOR.

IN ORDER TO PLAN WELL FOR RETIREMENT,

YOU MUST CONSIDER WHAT TYPES OF EXPENSES YOU'LL HAVE,

WHETHER YOU'LL WORK OR NOT, IF YOU'LL HAVE ADDITIONAL

MEDICAL INSURANCE, OR IF YOU'LL HAVE COSTLY

HOBBIES, LIKE TRAVELING.

THERE ARE MANY THINGS TO CONSIDER.

SO YOU MAY WANT TO CONSULT A FINANCIAL EXPERT FOR HELP.

>> YIKES, I'M FEELING DIZZY.

>> PROFESSOR, YOU CAN ALSO ASK FOR HELP AND GET TIPS FROM

THE FOLLOWING ORGANIZATIONS: AARP; AMERICAN SAVINGS EDUCATION

COUNCIL; DEPARTMENT OF LABOR; SECURITIES AND

EXCHANGE COMMISSION; SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION.

>> OH, I'M FEELING A LITTLE BETTER NOW.

>> PROFESSOR, THIS IS ABOUT SAVING, NOT SPENDING.

BETTER YET, LET ME REMIND YOU TO VISIT

Braindrop: Ad-Blocking - Duration: 2:23.

Do you have ads on your website?

Are you placing ads on websites?

They might stop reaching your customers on February 15.

Here's what you need to know.

Google will start blocking ads in its Chrome browser starting on Thursday, February 15.

Specifically, it will block bad ads that fail to meet guidelines set by

the Coalition for Better Ads.

If a site falls below a certain threshold for bad advertising for 30 days, Google will

block all ads on the site until the problematic ads have been fixed.

Google and the Coalition for Better Ads have been fighting interruptive marketing that

contributes to a negative experience.

Unacceptable ads include pop-ups, auto-play videos, prestitials that use a countdown before

you can view content, and ad density that exceeds 30 percent of the page.

The good news is that most ads will not be affected by this.

AdWords and most programmatic ad partners will not steer you to the "bad ad" category

in the first place, and neither will we.

What can you do if you're penalized?

Sites can check their status through the ad experience report available through Google

Search Console.

If they have been penalized, the report will detail the offending ads.

It will also allow sites to ask for a review to remove the penalty once it has been fixed.

How big of a deal is this?

In 2017, Chrome was the most widely used browser in the world, with nearly 59 percent of the

global market share, according to NetMarketShare.

Google will roll this out without requiring any opt-in from their users, so nearly two-thirds

of web users will suddenly be blocking ads.

If you are creating these interruptive ads, your ad spend may be wasted on new ad creative

that never even loads into the browser windows of their target audience come February.

What can you do?

If we place ads for you, leave the worry to us.

If you place them yourselves, make sure your ads are relevant and optimized to avoid being

filtered out by Chrome's new ad filter.

Start making better ads today, and you shouldn't feel a pinch in February.

Thanks for watching, and we'll see you next time.

It's the #ReadingWomenChallenge of 2018! - #StrikeBackVideoAThon [CC] - Duration: 12:45.

Hey everyone, it's Anna, and welcome back to my channel. In today's video, I'm going to

be chatting with you a little bit about the Reading Women Challenge. I have never

really done sort of a year-long reading challenge that has specific goals before.

I know that a lot of folks like to do things like the Book Riot Read Harder

Challenge or different kind of things to help diversify their TBRs, I suppose.

But I have never done one of these before. I've always kind of just read

where my fancy took me. But I am doing this challenge this year because it

was suggested to me by my friend, Dahlia, and we are going to be doing it together.

Now I didn't really know too too much about this challenge before I actually

undertook it, but it is actually done by... or was created by Autumn Privet and

Kendra Winchester. I have their website pulled up. It's reading women podcast.com

So every month or so they pick a theme to talk

about on the podcast, and then they pick a bunch of books that go with that theme.

And then they discuss it in like a book club-style format. So this challenge was

created by them to get people reading more books by and about women authors.

So let's see. I'll go ahead and read off what the challenges are, just you can get

an idea of whether this is something you might want to participate in, and so you

know that when I'm talking about the Reading Women Challenge on the channel

this is to what I am referring. So the goal is to read books that are by or

about women, and you can use one book to fulfill multiple challenges. The goal is

to just sort of like experience some new things in your reading. So the challenges

are to read: a book in translation; a fantasy by a woman of color; a book set

in the American South; a short story collection; a graphic novel or memoir;

a book published by an indie press; a book set in Russia or written by a Russian

author; a book with the point of view of an immigrant or refugee, I guess told

from that point of view is what I meant to say; a book by an Australian or

Canadian author; an essay collection; a book where the main point of view

character has a chronic illness; a true crime book;

a book written about civil rights by an African-American woman; a classic;

a poetry collection; a book where the characters are travelling somewhere;

a book with a food item in the title; a book by a female Nobel Prize winner;

a book that made the Reading Women Award from 2017 shortlist--that's something

that's linked on their website, which I'll have down below so you can check

that out; a memoir written by an author who is

from a different country than yours, so for me that would be a memoir written by

somebody that isn't from the United States; a book inspired by a fairy tale;

a book written by a local author; the book that has been on your TBR the longest;

a book from a genre you've never read; and then there are bonus points if you read

a book by Virginia Woolf and a book by Flannery O'Connor.

So as of -- let's see, when am i filming this? As of January 21st, I have managed

to complete three of the challenges from this list. So we'll go ahead and talk

about those just for a little bit, because I think that'd be interesting.

The first one I don't have with me because it was a library book, and it was

one of those - they call them "Peak Picks", where you have to only keep them for a

short amount of time, but you get to kind of skip the line - so I had to return it.

But that is "No Time to Spare" by Ursula K Le Guin. That is a collection of essays

that have been taken from blog posts that she's written over the past decade

or so about themes like writing, aging, and what happens with your body and your

mind as you begin to grow older, her thoughts about her cat and how he likes

to hunt these box beetles that they have in Portland. She had a really great

satire about vegetarianism and veganism that was done in the style of

Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal." That isn't to like knock vegetarians or

vegans or anything! She just had a really humorous take on like ritual vegetable

sacrifice that I thought was quite funny. And she also had a piece about her habit

of eating a soft-boiled egg every day for breakfast, and like the particularity

of the ritual. And that's something that I'm interested in

just generally: like, non-religious rituals and the role that ritual

and tradition plays in our life, outside of a specific like theological context.

So that was a book that I really enjoyed, and I love Ursula K. Le Guin. I'm going

to read the left hand of darkness this year as well, as part of my effort

to read more of her. And this was really great. Even if you don't really know very

much about her, if you like to read familiar essays, I think you would enjoy

this book. Okay, I also completed the challenge to read a fantasy novel by a

woman of color, and that was to read "Akata Warrior" by Nnedi Okorafor.

I actually got this from the library as well. It's got to go back soon because I

think 30 more people are waiting to read this after me. But this is the second

book in her Akata Witch series. I'm not sure if it's going to be like a trilogy

series or a *series* series. But they follow this young teenage girl. She's

about 13 years old in this book, the second one. And her name is Sunny. She was

born in America to two Nigerian parents, and when she's about like 11 or 12 years

old, the family decides that they are going to move back from America to

Nigeria. Sunny also is an albino - like she has albinism - so she has like much paler

skin and blonde hair, and because of her sort of liminal situation as a

Nigerian born in America and raised there, and now living in Nigeria, and also

being an albino, she's very physically different from the other kids.

They call her "akata," which is like a - it's a not nice term to refer to

somebody who is like outside the group. To complicate these sort of outsider-ness

of Sunny as well, she finds out that she is one of the "leopard people."

The leopards are kind of like this ... they're kind of like how

the muggles and the wizards are in Harry Potter. So the muggles are called Lambs

in this book-- those are the people that do not have magic, they don't practice

juju, they do not have like these spirit faces that show what their true self is.

And then the Leopards are the people that do practice juju, they have

spirit faces, that are kind of like a person that is distinct from them,

but also the same as them... maybe from like a past life or something like that.

The world-building in this series is absolutely incredible.

I would definitely recommend this if you're interested in any of that

magic school-type genre, if you liked Harry Potter, or if you wish that

that took it a step further. I think that this takes a lot of the similar themes

that Harry Potter discusses, but it deals with them in a more mature nuanced way,

and it doesn't really leave easy answers for the reader.

These are wonderful books if you want to read just of any sort of empowering

story about young people. Because as Sunny begins to like grow into her

leopard powers, she also starts to make friends with other young teenagers who

are leopard people as well, and just sort of like get to know them and have to

deal with the regular things that teenagers have to deal with, like having

your first crush, or, you know, being teased by boys at her lamb school. And

then she sort of shows them by kicking their butts at a soccer game! So this is

a fantastic series. I love Nnedi Okorafor's work. I also am in the middle of her

Binti series right now, so definitely if you are a fan of science fiction & fantasy,

you want to read more books by black women and support the work that they do,

check her out for sure. Okay, and then the third book and final book that I will

probably get through in the month of January that fulfills this challenge

was the one that fulfilled- let's see- a book where the characters are travelling

somewhere. So originally this was going to be the fantasy novel by a woman of

color, but then I did some digging, and I'm glad I did, because the author-

despite what I thought- is in fact a white woman who converted to

Islam from Christianity. And she wrote this book "The City of Brass" by

S.A. Chakraborty. I believe I am pronouncing that as close to the demo as I can, so

forgive me if it's not good. This is a historical fantasy. I believe she wrote

the book because she intended to start writing what

she called "history fanfiction" about the 18th century world of Egypt and the

Middle East. And it sort of morphed into an actual fantasy novel from there about

this young girl named Nahri. She's maybe, she's not *that* young, she's like a young

adult. This young adult named Nahri, and she is sort of like a con artist and a

thief, but she really wants to be a healer. She wants to be able to go to

Istanbul and study medicine, become a doctor, you know, get her life

on track and and all that good stuff. But she lives in Egypt during the Napoleonic

occupation at the end of the 18th century. Again, I love reading about the

18th century, one of my favorite time periods. And something goes wrong when

she's attempting to like drive a spirit out of this girl who is sick.

Spirits and demons and djinn and things like that are all real in this book, so

it isn't just like, [mystical voice] oooh, the spirits!

It's like, yeah, she's actually possessed by something.

So Nahri accidentally ends up summoning this djinn that is called Dara.

He has a much longer name, but she calls him Dara. And he is sort of like a

legendary djinn warrior. And because she has summoned him, he knows like

information about her backstory and her family and her past that she isn't aware

of. So he insists that they have to go together to this city of brass so she

can find out who she really is and what her destiny is meant to be. I enjoyed

this book very much. This was really slow to start out. It's quite a long book.

It's- let's see, I have the Book of the Month edition, so this might be different

from the regular bookstore edition - it's 526 pages plus the glossary and

author's note, which is kind of important if you want to actually understand

the words that are not in English, so like, use the glossary! The author has

done some really good work making sure that if you are not a native Arabic

speaker, you can understand what she's writing, so please just take advantage of

that! And I think that the first half of this book started out quite slow. I

was definitely more into the chapters that were told from Nahri's perspective

than Dara's perspective. And then there's

another character that- I believe his name is Ali, right? Yeah, Ali. I did not like all

his chapters very much until the second half of the book, when they got

much more interesting, but that was also because that was when the fantasy action

really began to pick up. I believe this is going to be a part of a series. Let's

find out what the title of the next one's gonna be... okay,

so we found it! The second book in the series is going to be called "The Kingdom

of Copper," and it's coming out in 2019. So I will definitely be reading this.

I think this would be a good book for somebody to read who is just beginning

to get into fantasy, if maybe that's not a genre that they're super familiar with,

because it has a lot of historical fiction elements. I think it would be

kind of an easy intro to fantasy. It is long, though, so maybe, maybe not. Depends

on if the person already likes to read long books. I know some people have

strong feelings about that, whereas I personally could read long books for

days. I'm a very fast reader, so I actually prefer my books a little bit on

the longer side, because that way I feel like I've gotten to sit with them and

enjoy them quite a lot. So that is "The City of Brass," and as of right now those

are the three books out of 26 that I have completed for this reading

challenge. Okay, so that is it for the discussion of the reading women

challenge. If you are participating in this or any other reading challenges, let

me know down below so that maybe we can encourage each other, cheer each other

on, and hopefully exchange a few recommendations. If you like this video,

please make sure to give it a big thumbs up, and subscribe to my channel if you

the chests and they dropped to the earth there is a bit crazy here yeah is that a

chest out there there's to the sailors have been turned

go get the chest I believe in you Josh uh okay we're going sharks but wait line

okay we're good to go

there's a door you should go get it I missed don't I see ya won't the plank

that's what I think I think we added by I drop the chest Josh this is a gesture

here I mean if you're more educated to booty than the ship then I understand

but everyone else lookout point whatever it's to the north nope no to the

northwest you seize a ship to the right more a lot a lot more a lot more okay

yeah yeah cuz there's a big sale in the way and I can't see yes I understand

bear in mind that ship might be the guys you blew up to get these chests yeah

they might be coming to take revenge no that's Erina I don't seem like where

they are I guess I'll start swimming towards golden Suns are you gonna start

swimming there now you're uh now you're wait no it's on the right side of the

end so keep turning it right that keeps hunting right yeah I

think so that's where that thing is right we got off on that side I think

last time and it took us forever to walk over there okay yeah I'm trying to

what's happening all right you can straighten us out we're like pretty much

like right in the right at the island I'll never forget this mutiny well you

you need us you mutant in me like 10 times bro maybe to the right maybe to

the right a little bit more increasingly enough no sharks have turned up to gave

me up I'm just gonna drop the incan uh okay graphic seven live near yet we yeah

we're getting water Oh are we really yeah we're thinking oh mrs. mermaids we

didn't even touch it that's fine I swear to god this chest is only worth three

gold but I gather I'm sure I was on the left side my bad whoopsie no we're fine

we're fine other any more chests I need to pick up there was one in the crow's

nest oh then he Artemis want to grab

it's gonna be like 50 gold worth 55 great isn't it really satisfying say

hearing that screams of your captain as he gets eaten by sharks for the Muny put

us through yeah man I want that Admiral shirt yeah

we we can both be Admirals now and we don't even need captain's then yeah we

don't need a map we don't need them we don't need you eat your entrails wow

that's very good that's very very gruesome in that's why I was thinking do

you write those very very gruesome is probably gonna be editor and it what is

edit Emma what what's our edits in this weird world we are living you talking

Staff Room Sessions - Ben Arcega - Duration: 2:46.

Hey, I'm Ben Arcega, this is BNA Staff Room Sessions and I like to paint.

I just finished art school in spring of 2017

and it was a great experience that really opened a lot of doors for me in

Kelowna. Well my dad kinda taught me how to draw when I was a kid and ever since

I was a kid I just kept doing it and then I think I really fell in love with

it in my grade 12. I am gonna be painting my whole life and it's just what I love

to do and never gonna stop doing it, so. I think it's a pretty exciting time to be

living in Kelowna and there's so many young artists that are really pushing

each other to do great things. Yeah I like to paint people I know and I like

painting my friends 'cause it, it almost gets me, it allows me to like, reflect on

what I know about them, or, it's like I get to know them even better by focusing

on their expressions and how they look. Yeah and as far as the two canvases I did,

one of them was a gift for my boss Charlotte Augustine, she owns Bean Scene,

and she just recently lost her dad this summer and I just wanted to paint a

portrait of him because I thought that'd be a nice thing to do for her. And then

the other one is just, is just an image my friend Matt Cost who, I just really

like the image, I thought it was a great photo and that's sort of how I start a

lot of my paintings is like, I'll find something on social media and it'll just

call out to me and I'm like, "I have to paint this! It's gonna, it'll look

better as painting than it does just as a photo."

...new, like I haven't done that much digital work where it gets printed in a factory

or whatever, but I thought hand painting growlers would be a pretty fun little

way to use my illustration on a three-dimensional surface
