Depression can often be misunderstood.

That's not surprising considering

how rarely people talk about it.

But...that's ironic because

"depressive disorders", as they're

formally called, are extremely common.

Approximately 1 out of

every 20 people worldwide experiences

some sort of diagnosable depression.

If you don't personally have depression,

you undoubtedly have had contact

with someone who does.

It could be a family member

Or a friend

A coworker

Or your favorite actor?

Everyone experiences

sadness from time to time.

But just because someone is sad,

doesn't mean that they have a disorder.

So when does it tip the scales?

When do we call something

"depression", exactly?

Well, the Diagnostics and Statistics Manual,

which is the tool that

mental health professionals use to diagnose,

defines Major Depressive Disorder as this.

We're usually referring to

Major Depressive Disorder when we

think about depression, but there

are other diagnoses.

In general, they all have features of

sadness and emptiness, as well as

physical and cognitive symptoms

that affect the person's capacity to function

for at least a two week period.

But what causes depression?

Well, Alie talked all about the

genetics of depression and what

depression does to your brain

and I strongly suggest you check out

that video right here.

I'll link to it at the end if you want to check it out.

Psychologists, unlike neuroscientists,

place a lot of focus on cognitive and

social factors that may play a role in depression.

For example, how a person thinks can say a lot.

In particular, there are a couple of

questions that can indicate whether

someone is susceptible to depression.

First, how do they view themselves or others?

And second, do they cope with

problems or avoid them?

Let's say you have negative expectations

about your ability to cope with problems.

Or maybe you think others are

purposefully imposing problems on you.

At any point in your life, if you have

repeated failures trying to solve problem,

you're more likely to feel hopeless,

helpless, or abandon your

usual ways of solving problems.

These factors are all predictive of depression.

Or let's say you run into an issue.

What do you do?

If you're the kind of person who wants to

fix it right away or you use your active

coping skills like reaching out to others

for help or using meditation to

calm down, congratulations!

You are less likely to become depressed

than someone who uses passive

coping skills, such as distraction or avoidance.

Life stressors can also make you

susceptible to depression.

In fact, most people report a

severe life event or difficulty in the 6 months

leading up to the onset of their depression.

Now, not everyone who faces difficult problems

becomes depressed, but prolonged exposure

to stressors can preempt a depressive episode.

This is particularly true for people who

do not have strong social supports like

family, friends, or a community to help them.

If you don't have that external support,

then you only have your internal coping skills to rely on.

Now, if you're feeling depressed just

hearing about all this, don't fret!

There is hope.

Depression can be treated!

Like so many disorders, prevailing research

says that the combination of medication

and therapy is the most effective way

to treat depression.

Different studies have looked at

medication and therapy independently of

each other to see which one works better.

And they found that they're more or less

equally effective at treating symptoms.

Although therapy has longer-lasting effects

after completing treatment

compared to medication.

Alie talked about medication for

depression in the last video and I'm

gonna suggest once again that you go check that out.

Personally, I think that while medication does a

good at treating the symptoms,

therapy can do a good job at addressing

the underlying cause of depression.

What led them to feel that

persistent and ongoing feeling of

sadness and loneliness?

The two most commonly used therapies

for depression are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy, or CBT,

takes a two-pronged approach to address

how you think and how you act.

On the cognitive side, it specifically

addresses negativistic thinking.

This is depression's best friend.

It's essentially a takeover of your

thoughts that is overly pessimistic and critical.

A person who engages in negativistic thinking

expects failure and disappointment

at every turn and focuses on past failures

as a way to confirm that belief.

It is so common for these two things

to go together, that a lot of people wonder,

What comes first?

Does depression cause negativistic thinking?

Or does negativistic thinking cause depression?

Well, research indicates that pessimistic thinkers

and optimistic thinkers are both at risk

of depression after exposure to stressful life events,

so it seems like negativistic thinking is probably

the result of depression, not the

other way around.

CBT tries to challenge and modify these thoughts.

And by changing the thoughts,

it relieves the symptoms.

And on the behavioral side, clients are

encouraged to engage in pleasant activities

to treat the numb and anhedonic

symptoms they may feel.

About 1 in 3 people find that CBT alone

helps them with their depression.

Interpersonal Psychotherapy, or IPT,

on the other hand, is a therapy that was

specifically developed for Major Depressive Disorder.

It theorizes that how we interact with others

affects our mood.

As such, by helping a depressed person

improve their relationships and

interactions in social situations,

it relieves the distress they may feel.

Depression can often be sustained

or preempted by interpersonal problems.

For example, social isolation,

unresolved grief or loss, life transitions,

and disputes with family, friends, or coworkers

can all be part of that.

Unlike CBT, IPT does not examine

internal conflicts or personality traits.

And the therapist doesn't even really

address depressive symptoms directly.

Instead, they focuses on

relationship patterns and improving them

to improve the person's overall satisfaction,

incidentally relieving depressive symptoms.

These aren't the only two therapies

that are effective, though they are

currently the two most supported by evidence.

There are other therapies that have shown

some effectiveness in treating

depression symptoms, including

Social Skill Training, Behavioral Activation,

and Psychodynamic Therapy.

I'll talk more about these theories

in future videos.

And finally, because my friend

mentioned it the other day,

there is some preliminary evidence that

controlled sleep deprivation may reduce

depression symptoms.

Though we're not exactly sure why yet.

my name is Dean you're watching travelvids and today we are talking food videos

because making smartphone videos is easy

I must admit for non foodie people we at travelvids have covered a lot of food videos

you don't have to be into making food videos to be making food videos let

me explain this in the story food video stories I mean come on where do you even

start before I can give you a breakdown of a food video story we're going to

have to first take a few steps back and decide what type of video we even

filming you could be making recipe videos which others like chop chop jump

jump jump chop this is how you make food in 30 seconds or you could be doing a

slower cooking show style video explaining exactly what you're doing

step-by-step perhaps you may be more into eating food yourself so you could

be doing reviews of restaurants you're going to make one long film about the

culture of food and Vietnam or shorter series about the best burgers in Cape

Town where I'm going with this is that there are so many different types of

stories that you can tell with food you have to first decide am I going to be

making a single longer video like a vlog or am I going to be making a shorter

series of videos perhaps food is just the conduit to your story connecting in

another interest there's a Jerry Seinfeld show that's just come out

recently which is called riding in cars with comedians to get coffee seriously

it's a real show it actually exists in this case he's using food and coffee

just as a method to have an interview with somebody all of these are videos

that you can actually do with your smartphone but I need to stop now

because I can't tell you what type of video you need to make you need to make

that decision on your own the only thing that I can tell you is that you need to

think about giving your food some more substance so ask yourself the

questions is it about where we are who we with how we got there it's going to

be obvious that you're going to film the food and we'll get to some more details

about that in the technical aspect just now but give it some sub context

elaborate build a story around the food that is how you're gonna make a really

cool foodie video make a decision make a choice it's three major topics that I

want to talk about when it comes to the technical aspect of the the food video

the one is extra lighting to make food look good is actually quite difficult

photographers are actually really skilled at doing this and there's a

whole science behind it but with your phone what you got to do is get close

because close-ups are going to be your friend here if you don't have enough

light naturally it's always good to keep an LED light in your bag in your pocket

or if you don't have anything at all put the camera flash on I know it's not the

best thing in the world but you need to have a lot of light to make food not

look yeah the other thing you're going to need is a stand because you're going

to be wanting to film yourself not just from arm length distance but also be

able to go put the camera down somewhere else

and film yourself in your environment of where you are engaging with either

making food or consuming food you have to change up that angle as often as

possible so get yourself that tripod to put your phone down further away from

you and the third technical aspect that I would suggest is that you have a

really good mic with you food videos are very much about the story as we've

established and they is going to be talking to camera now whether it's you

or somebody else doesn't really matter but you're going to want to get the

sound right and for that your phone might not be good enough especially in

noisier areas like in restaurants or markets so make sure that you have an

extra either lapel mic or a shotgun point mic which you can plug into your

phone when it comes to the technique of this

you're going to want to use a lot of detail shots get up close get personal I

mean like ready up close and personal get the details of everything and not

just the food I'm talking about everything why do you think those tasty

videos are so popular it's that close-up intimate lets get close-ups

so the close-ups give you that intimate feel but don't be too rushed with

everything so also make sure that you get shots that are very smooth and very

slow food is an elegant thing and you might want to consider getting a little

bit of movement into your shots even filming it in slow-mo helps to give it

that little extra edge of like and here's a general technique when it comes

to filming food don't get people eating I've done it often and I'm not saying

don't do it some people want to do it we've done it we've done it in blog

capacity but if you're doing a little bit more of a stylish video you know

watching people eats is just a no-no it's just it's a technical frowned upon

if you want to go against the grain then use it do it watch people eat

plan and practice the only thing that you're really going to need to practice

are those close-ups of getting food looking good now not we're not all food

stylists and sometimes we're not always doing gourmet food so even if it's fish

and chips or a basic salad or a burger just trying when you're framing it up

practice that sort of food styling element and you're gonna get it wrong in

the beginning but just keep trying and trying and trying in practice and you

will get better recognizing how to style your own food to make it look better

a word of advice when it comes to planning also let the restaurant or the

people you're going to go visit know that you're coming it just gives them a

little bit of a heads up and also it makes them feel more relaxed about

letting you say into the kitchen for example if you just rock up and make a

video sometimes people get a bit frightened off by that so just like sort

of say hey guys we're coming through I'd like to do a video to review your

restaurant or do a vlog of my experience their communication is your best tool so

this is me communicating to you that all this talk about food has made me very

hungry so I'm going to go make myself something in the kitchen I am out of

Economic Update: Karl Marx, 1818 - 1883 [S7 E08] - Duration: 29:01.

Welcome friends to another edition of Economic Update a weekly program devoted

to the economic dimensions of our lives jobs debts incomes those we face those

coming down the road and those confronting our children and the next

generation I'm your host Richard Wolff I've been a

professor of economics all my adult life with the hope that I can bring to bear

what I've learned to make more sense out of the surrounding economic events than

the most major media seem able to do so let's jump right in one of the most

important documents of the last few weeks was a paper a pamphlet actually

issued by Oxfam international Oxfam is the most widely used and respected

institution based in Great Britain that studies global inequality has been doing

it for years in January of 2018 they issued a

document entitled reward work not wealth basically it makes the case for exactly

what it's title says but in so doing it talks about the latest research it has

either done or commissioned on global inequality including the attitudes of

people toward global inequality so I want to bring you some of what they

found because it is crucial to understanding how the capitalist system

that governs the world today both in the so called advanced part of the world and

in the so called less developed part if you want to make

an assessment of the capitalist system take a look at its results it's a

logical way to proceed so here are some of them last year that's 2017

so the biggest increase in the number of billionaires in history

one more billionaire was added to the list every two days there are now and

this may come as a surprise to you 2043 billionaires in the world nine out of

ten of them are men these billionaires these 2043 individuals in a population

on this planet of seven billion individuals mm that's point

0:01 percent of the population their wealth last year increased by a total of

seven hundred and sixty-two billion dollars that is the value of their

stocks and bonds and land holdings went up by seven hundred and sixty-two

billion dollars by every known calculation of the number of people

around the world living in extreme poverty that amount of money is more

than you need to eradicate extreme poverty on this planet let me drive this

point home to you the richest 2043 people on the earth became richer over

the last year by an amount of money larger than what would have been

necessary to bring hundreds of millions of people out of extreme poverty usually

calculated as people living on less than one dollar and ninety cents per day for

food clothing shelter and everything else what kind of a society would be

organized in such a way as to make the 2043

richest people on the planet seven hundred

sixty-two billion dollars richer when that's more than the money needed to

eradicate extreme poverty for their fellow citizens for their fellow human

beings this is a system that can't solve that problem that makes the problem

worse year after year meanwhile some

statistics I've given you in the past continued to be true and reaffirmed by

Oxfam's research the richest 1% on this planet own more wealth than the other

99% combined the richest 1% this happened into 2016

when over half that is the richest 1% on more than half the other 99% fight over

the remaining half what Oxfam also did last year know what I also want to

report to you is they interviewed they surveyed 70,000 people in 10 countries

population of those countries represent 1/4 of the world's population so they

did this survey in countries that together account for a quarter of the

people on this planet over three-quarters of the people they

surveyed either agree or strongly agree that the gap between rich and poor in

their country is too large the numbers ranged from 58% in the Netherlands

believe that to 92 percent in Nigeria believe that two-thirds of the

respondents in the 10 countries think that the gap between rich and poor needs

to be addressed urgently or very urgently so what if we got o wildly an

equal distribution of wealth and income in the world and a vast majority of the

people who are against it and nonetheless it gets worse but better

with each passing year what the majority thinks is unable in

this culture and in this economy to be translated into corrective action

overwhelming majorities want something which doesn't happen the opposite

happens which means that those at the top know not only have the wealth in

their hands but have bought the political system to make sure it isn't

responsive to what the majority of people would want this means that the

consequences of capitalism are not only gross inequality but also the political

corruption that prevents that problem from being addressed even though the

majority of people want it to be in a peculiar way much of the rest of today's

economic updates will operate a little bit to illustrate what the summary that

Oxfam has produced allowed me to just tell you about so let's begin let me

introduce to you the owner of a store you may have encountered if not

personally well through the internet the store in question is called Victoria's

Secret it is a famous store that sells lingerie and all kinds of underwear and

so forth the owner is a billionaire one of the 2043 I just told you about his

name is Leslie Wexner, WEXNER, he is 78 years of age and he is worth

apparently seven billion dollars that is he owns

seven billion dollars worth of oh I'm gonna tell you about some of the things

he owns but I presume most of it is stocks and bonds because that's what

most of the wealthy hold most of their wealth in those forms but mr. Wexler

lives well perhaps most famous is a huge mansion in

Britain mansions in Britain have their own name this one is called Fox coat

fo x Co te cost him apparently 30 million dollars it is referred to in the

press as a gentleman's shooting estate in October helicopters came in and

apparently the shooting was done from the helicopter what kind of sport you

might want to call this I leave to your judgment and your imagination

mr. Wexner also owns a 47 million dollar mansion outside of Columbus Ohio

likewise one of the largest yachts ever built in the world he owns it in 1997 he

got some more publicity when he paid sixteen point five million dollars for a

1954 Ferrari automobile but he's in litigation fighting with the former

owner or the auction house that sold it to him and so forth why am I telling you

this because I want you to understand that the people who are billionaires are

only billionaires because the rest of us enable them to be billionaires the

people who go in and spend large amounts of money on the products of Victoria

Secret when you buy that highly priced piece of clothing you're feeding the

billionaire mr. Wexner you're paying for that yacht and that mansion every time

you shop there and I don't mean to pick on Victoria's Secret although I do get a

bit of a kick out of it because I could do the same thing with all the other

billionaires all of whom are in that position because you and I pay the money

that flows into their pockets you might think

that if we pay the money we would have some say about how that money is used

but not in a capitalist system they can use it and Mr. Wexner has done it in the

way I've just summarized my next economic update takes me once again to

the issue of immigration I don't mean to harp on it but it is something that

keeps being in the news why because mr. Trump and the Republicans think they

have a politically viable way to impress people so now let's do the numbers to

see whether there's any truth in it the population of the United States is 325

million people roughly so if we want to talk about the economic well-being of

the American people we're talking about the economic well-being the job holders

who are roughly half of that population how many undocumented immigrants are

there and those are the only ones that are being talked about when there's all

this talk about stopping immigration or reversing immigration or expelling

undocumented immigrants best guess of the United States government eleven

point eight million so let's be clear that right we're talking when we talk

about immigration undocumented immigration about eleven that's rounded

off twelve million people in a population of 325 million people here's

a hot flash for all of you nothing about that eleven point eight million no

matter what happens to them or what is done to them is gonna fundamentally

alter the economic situation of the American people lots of attention to

expelling these 700,000 or closing off the border to these million you're not

talking about things that are gonna change the problems of the American

people the economic problems the whole focus on immigration

is fake is phony it's a way to distract Americans from the economic problems

they do have serious ones that affect tens of millions of families in this

country there are not going to be affected one way or the other in any

significant degree by anything that is done to the immigrants so even if you

are the kind of American who conveniently forgets that the whole

country is a country of immigrants precisely because you wiped out the

people who were here when the immigrants first came and even if you're the kind

of American who doesn't care about what it means to expel people at the bottom

of the economic ladder who over a suffered from poverty and lack of

education and poor housing and all the rest and you want them to be the butt of

your action to fix an economy fixing it on the backs of those most already

impoverished by it if you don't have any moral problems with that no ethical

problems with that here's the real argument the reasoning an economist

would give you it's not the issue friends jobs are the issue Automation is

the issue unequal distribution of wages and profits is the issue

our whole capitalist system is the issue immigrants aren't the issue it's as if

you told me that the house was on fire and I told you take a little nail file

and try to work on a corner of the wood at the base of the house you'd scream at

me and say that that's not gonna solve the problem of a house on fire we need a

lot of water we need other faiths but filing the corner of a piece of wood

you're crazy my response is an economists to the

discussion of immigration to seeing mr. Trump and the Republican leaders in the

Democratic leaders arguing and fighting over there is to see a system whose job

it is to distract the mass of people suffering from it from the system itself

nobody's questioning sister we're fighting over immigrants it

is a terrible misunderstanding of what's going on that makes all of that possible

after the tax cut bill was passed in December of last year a great deal of

noise was spent saying how this was in the words of our president a middle

class tax cut and so forth I wanted to do some research to basically answer the

question is the tax cut that was passed by mr. Trump and the Republicans

something that will really transform America's people fix the middle class

rebuild the middle class save the middle class transform its economic situation

so let me tell you the research I did in their results I found first I made use

of research done by the Tax Policy Center a non partisan very good very

well-qualified research outfit and they sat down and did a study of how each

level of household in America would be affected by the tax cut let me give you

just a small flavor of what they said if you earn less than twenty five thousand

dollars a year so you are among the poorer folks in America the tax cut will

save you get ready because it's really gonna change your life if you were in

less than twenty five thousand that tax cut will save you sixty dollars that's

right you heard me sixty dollars if you were in between twenty five thousand and

forty nine thousand dollars a year it will save you three hundred and sixty

dollars if you earn between forty nine and eighty six thousand dollars a year

it will save you nine hundred and thirty dollars that's

most Americans right there so most Americans are gonna save between sixty

and nine hundred dollars I understand $900 a significant amount of money for a

lot of people it's not gonna transform your life it's what you save in the

entire year not per week not per month that's what you save across 2018 by

virtue of that fact now if you are a millionaire if you earn over a lot I'll

use this number because you might find it interesting if you earn over three

point four million dollars a year here's how much you will save by the tax cut in

2018 ready here we go one hundred and ninety three thousand three hundred and

eighty dollars let me do that again if you weren't over three point four

million dollars you we'll save nearly $200,000 on your time

that's a lot of money in order to save a lot of money you already have to have a

lot of money that's how this system always works nothing new has happened in

this tax cut for the vast majority of Americans what you save in taxes will

not fundamentally change your situation at all this wasn't a tax cut for you but

it was a tax cut for the really rich they will now have an extra two hundred

thousand dollars not you it was not a tax cut for you there was a tax cut of

your expense because you have to remember that when they cut all those

taxes that don't have to be paid particularly not by rich people the next

step is to say the government not getting all that money from people will

not be able to fund a whole lot of programs for school kids for road

maintenance for college education we're gonna have a season of cutting because

there isn't enough money because they cut taxes above all on the rich so

you're gonna not get the benefit of the tax cut but you are likely going to pay

the cost of the tax cut which is in a reduction in the quality and the

quantity of public services in the United States which middle and

lower-income people rely on more than the folks at the top you want a tax cut

for the middle class then give it to the middle class we don't do that in America

we say we do it but we don't do it in case you're wondering we have actually a

case study that proves all this back in 2012 a person like Trump a man named Sam

Brownback became the governor of Kansas and he did in Kansas what mr. Trump has

now done he cut taxes on the rich and he cut taxes on corporations promising it

would really explode the economy of Kansas it didn't do

anything of the sort Kansas went downward its unemployment

got worse than the rest of the America in a way it hadn't before there was no

explosion of jobs none of it so bad is it that in the last session of the

Kansas Legislature they put back in the very taxes that they had cut out under

mr. Brownback and he was dispatched off as an ambassador to someplace abroad I

can't remember the name of the country he's gone gone from Kansas gone from the

United States a disaster because it didn't work in Kansas it's of course

logical that the same kind of politicians will now do it in the

country as a whole next update many of you have no doubt watched with horror

the public trial of a doctor who worked on Olympic athletes in the United States

particularly young women who was also for a long time a professor of medical

sciences at Michigan State University he has been sentenced to spend the rest of

his life in jail he has had to listen to 150 or maybe more young women testify as

to what he did to them over 20 or 30 years of being the official doctor for

the USA Gymnastics that organizes our Olympic competitors and likewise his

activities at Michigan State in recent weeks the president of Michigan State

University other officials there and likewise the entire board of USA

Gymnastics quit and they quit because of a rising chorus of anger and bitterness

not just from the women who suffered the sexual abuse this

sexual assaults over all those years not even from the just from their families

their friends their communities but from the general public and I want to say to

you a word about that because there's an economic lesson in all of this here's

the lesson if you organize a teaching institution a university such as

Michigan State a good big State University if you organize it as a

school it behaves in one way if you organize it as a business it behaves in

a different way a business depends on customers it is afraid to reveal any of

its shortcomings to its customers lest they go someplace else

it's afraid to admit to its shareholders or those who control it than it did bad

things for fear they will invest somewhere else businesses tend to hide

the illegal the immoral that they do because it's in their interest to do

that the behavior of the people who run Michigan State University is the

behavior of people in a business it turns out that the police department of

Michigan State University received something on the order of 100 complaints

from young athletes at the University about this same dr. nasir some of them

were pursued some of them were nothing ever happened the administration failed

to take the most minimal protections how in the world did you not have a major

investigation after a hundred complaints what is the what is the possibility that

you didn't know that's not serious that you didn't care I'm not willing to

assume that about these people I don't think there

monsters but they are caught up in a system that rewards them for keeping it

quiet for hushing it up for not letting anyone know and when you do that you

don't expose the problem and you don't solve the problem you subordinate the

solving of the problem to the keeping up of your income your money your profits

long ago we made major universities into businesses that sell sports that sell

events that sell all kinds of things they even sell positions in their

schools that's not healthy and one of the prices you pay when you mix business

with education is you get business type results hiding dis simulating making

money even at the expense of the most basic kinds of human care for one

another michigan state stands exposed but these

problems are you not unique to Michigan State they affect the entire universe of

higher education and other institutions being businesslike has always been a

very mixed bag we've come to the end of economic updates first half-hour please

WATCHING A VALUE STRUCTURE COME INTO PLACE WHERE IF

YOU DON'T AGREE WITH US WE'RE GOING TO TAKE YOU

OFF THE INTERNET, WE'RE GOING TO TAKE YOU OFF THE

AIRWAVES, WE'RE GOING TO TAKE YOU OFF OF SOCIAL

MEDIA, WE'RE GOING TO NOT LET YOUR GOOGLE SEARCH

SHOW UP, WE'RE NOT GOING TO LET YOU BE ON FACEBOOK

AND WHAT WE'RE WATCHING IS ALL OF A SUDDEN THIS HUGE

WORLD OF CENSORSHIP IS SETTLING IN, AND SO I

BELIEVE THAT FOR THE CHURCHES, FOR THE

CHRISTIANS TO BE FALSELY LABELED AS A HATE GROUP

COULD HAVE HUGE RAMIFICATIONS WHETHER WE

STAY TAX EXEMPT WITH OUR GOVERNMENT, WHETHER WE CAN

STAY ON THE AIRWAVES LIKE THIS BROADCAST, OR WHETHER

WE'LL HAVE THE ABILITY TO GET THE GOSPEL OF JESUS

OUT ON THE INTERNET.

NOW WE KNOW THAT WOULD BE PART OF THE DEVIL'S PLAN,

WOULDN'T IT, TO BASICALLY TAKE THESE POWERFUL

COMMUNICATION TOOLS LIKE TELEVISION, RADIO, THE

INTERNET AND LIMIT THAT TO WHERE THE CHURCHES AND THE

CHRISTIAN VIEWPOINT WOULD BE CENSORED OUT.

LET'S TALK ABOUT AMAZON A LITTLE BIT, OUR CASE

AGAINST AMAZON IS NOT A DEFAMATION CASE, IT'S A

DISCRIMINATION CASE, AND THEY ARGUE THAT THEY CAN

DISCRIMINATE AGAINST ANYBODY THAT THEY WANT.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH AMAZON'S POSITION ON THIS

DISCRIMINATION QUESTION?

WELL, I THINK THEY'RE WRONG; PEOPLE ARE

BEGINNING TO ASK EXACTLY WHAT WE'LL CALL THE

JUSTICE FAIRNESS QUESTION.

WHY THE LITTLE BAKER, WHY THE LITTLE FLORIST, WHY

THE LITTLE CAKE MAKER, WHY ARE THESE FOLKS BEING PUT

INTO ALL THIS PRESSURE AND YET AMAZON WITH REALLY WE

MIGHT SAY UNLIMITED OR UNBELIEVABLE RESOURCE, NOT

HAVING TO OBEY THE LAW IN THESE AREAS, AND WE HAVE,

WE'LL CALL IT A CASE OF FIRST IMPRESSION, COURTS

HAVE BROKEN BOTH WAYS ON THESE ISSUES.

A LOT OF IT IS IN THE DISABILITY REALM, YOU

KNOW, WHAT DUTIES DOES AMAZON HAVE TO ACCOMMODATE

DISABLED CUSTOMERS AND FOR THE MOST PART THEY PRETTY

MUCH SAY, WE DON'T HAVE ANY.

OK, WE DON'T HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THE DISABLED, IN

THEORY, THEY COULD BAN PEOPLE OF RACE, IN THEIR

ARGUMENTS IF YOU FOLLOW IN THEIR LOGIC AND THEY

BELIEVE THEY CAN BAN PEOPLE OF PERSPECTIVE,

FAITH, VIEW POINT, POLITICS.

AND SO AMAZON'S ARGUMENT IS WE'RE A PRIVATE COMPANY

WE CAN DO WHAT WE WANT WITH NO RULES.

OUR COUNTER TO THAT IS NO, YOU'RE AWFULLY BIG, YOU

ARE UNDER SOME OF THESE PUBLIC ACCOMMODATION

GUIDELINES, AND WE DON'T WANT YOU TO ACCOMMODATE US

AT ANY LEVEL BEYOND WHAT YOU DO FOR EVERYBODY ELSE.

OUR GREAT SUPPORTERS AND FRIENDS ARE OFTEN TIMES

GREAT PRAYER WARRIORS TOO, HOW CAN PEOPLE BE

SUPPORTING THIS EFFORT IN PRAYER?

WHAT SHOULD THEY PRAY SPECIFICALLY FOR?

AS YOU PRAY FOR THIS CASE AND THIS SITUATION, DON'T

JUST PRAY FOR WHAT WE'RE FIGHTING IN THE COURT

ROOM, BUT THINK FOR JUST A MOMENT ABOUT YOUR KIDS,

JUST ASK YOURSELF FROM YOUR HEART, WHAT KIND OF

AMERICA DO WE WANT TO LEAVE FOR THEM?

GOOD, DAVID WE COULDN'T FIGHT THIS BATTLE WITHOUT

YOUR LEADERSHIP AND THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR LIFE

AND LIBERTY AS WELL, IT'S A PLEASURE TO LABOR WITH YOU.

IN A FEW MINUTES WE'LL SHOW YOU HOW THE BIBLE

OF A NEGATIVE EXAMPLE.

THERE ARE MANY NOBLE EXAMPLES IN THE SCRIPTURE

OF MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE LIVED GODLY AND SELFLESS

LIVES; WHO HAVE FOLLOWED THEIR SAVIOR IN THE MIDST

OF THE MOST DIFFICULT OF PERSECUTIONS; WHO HAVE

GIVEN THEIR LIVES EVEN TO TESTIFY TO THE REALITY OF

THEIR FAITH.

THERE ARE, HOWEVER, IN THE SCRIPTURES, AND SOMETIMES

WE MAY EVEN FAIL TO SEE THEM, A GREAT MANY

NEGATIVE EXAMPLES.

AND THERE IS POWER IN A BAD EXAMPLE.

THEREFORE, I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO NOTE FIRST OF

ALL WITH ME THE INCREDIBLE OPENNESS AND CANDOR OF

SCRIPTURE CONCERNING THE SINS AND FAILINGS AND

FALLINGS OF THOSE WHO PROFESS FAITH IN THE

LIVING GOD.

EVEN ITS GREATEST SAINTS HAVE THEIR PORTRAITS DRAWN

WITH ALL OF THE MOLES AND WRINKLES AND WARTS

PRESENT.

ABRAHAM AND HIS LIE ABOUT HIS WIFE, MOSES

AND HIS ANGER AND DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD.

DAVID AND HIS ADULTERY AND HIS ATTEMPT TO COVER IT

OVER WITH MURDER.

IN THE NEW TESTAMENT, THERE IS THE COWARDLY

DENIAL OF PETER, THERE IS THE FAILURE OF MARK, WHO

TURNED TAIL AND RAN IN THE MIDST OF HIS FIRST

MISSIONARY TRIP.

THERE IS EVEN THE TOTAL APOSTASY OF NOTABLE

PROFESSORS OF FAITH.

WE ALL ARE CERTAINLY AWARE OF THE CASE OF JUDAS, WHO

THE HIGH POSITION OF ONE OF THE 12 APOSTLES.

WE READ IN JOHN, THE TIME THAT THERE WAS A GREAT

FLOCK OF PEOPLE THAT HAD BEEN FOLLOWING CHRIST,

UNTIL FINALLY AS HE TALKED TO THEM ABOUT HIS

SOVEREIGN POWER; THAT WE READ THAT FROM THAT HOUR

AND TO THE LAODICEANS HE SAID, "BECAUSE THOU ART

LUKEWARM, AND NEITHER COLD NOR HOT, I WILL SPEW THEE

OUT OF MY MOUTH"

SO OVER AND OVER AGAIN, WE SEE THAT BOTH IN THE

LEADERSHIP AND THE FOLLOWERSHIP, THAT THE

CHURCH OF GOD IN THE OLD TESTAMENT AND THE NEW

TESTAMENT HAS REPEATEDLY FAILED.

"LET HIM THAT THINKETH THAT HE STANDETH TAKE HEED

LEST HE FALL."

NOW I BELIEVE THAT THE SOVEREIGN GOD WILL KEEP

HIS VERY OWN.

THOSE THAT ARE TRULY HIS, HE WILL HOLD UP.

BUT REMEMBER, WE DO NOT STAND; WE ARE UPHELD BY

THE POWER OF GOD, AND WE ARE CAPABLE IN OUR OWN

FALLEN NATURES OF SLIPPING INTO THE MOST HEINOUS OF

SIN AT ANY TIME IN OUR LIVES.

THEREFORE, WE NEED TO PRAY: "LEAD US NOT INTO

TEMPTATION BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL."

THAT IS THE PRAYER OF THE MOST MATURE OF GOD'S

SAINTS.

AND REMEMBER THAT ANY MAN AND ALL MEN WILL

ULTIMATELY FAIL, FOR EACH OF US HAS FEET OF CLAY.

SOMETIMES THOSE FEET OF CLAY EXTEND ALL THE WAY UP

TO OUR EARS, BUT THERE IS ONE WHOSE FEET ARE NOT

CLAY, AND THAT IS JESUS CHRIST.

WE MUST REMEMBER THAT OUR FAITH IS NOT TO BE IN MEN

BUT IN THE LIVING GOD, IN JESUS CHRIST.

WHEN JOHN SAW CHRIST IN THE FIRST CHAPTER OF THE

BOOK OF REVELATION, HE SAW THAT HIS FEET WERE AS FINE

BRASS, AS THOUGH BURNT IN A FURNACE.

THERE IS ONE WHO WILL NEVER CRUMBLE, WHO WILL

NEVER FAIL, THE ALTOGETHER PERFECT ONE; THE PARAGON

OF VIRTUE; THE STAINLESS, SINLESS CHRIST.

WHAT AN AMAZING FEAT IT WAS THAT CHRISTIANITY

EXAMPLE, WHO DID NOT OBEY THE KING, AND BECAUSE OF

THAT MOSES WAS BORN.

AND THEN WE CAN TRACE IT ALL THE WAY THROUGH.

I MEAN, THERE WERE PEOPLE LIKE DANIEL WHO DID NOT GO

ALONG WITH THE NEW LAWS THAT WERE INVOKED IN

BABYLON.

AND YOU GET TO THE NEW TESTAMENT WHERE THE

APOSTLES SAID, WE WOULD RATHER OBEY GOD RATHER

THAN MEN, AND THEY ALSO BECAME LAWBREAKERS.

BUT YOU LOOK AT THE EXAMPLE OF THE APOSTLE

PAUL AND WHEN HE WAS FALSELY IMPRISONED AND HE

HAD TO ASSERT THAT HE WAS A ROMAN CITIZEN AND BOY

DID THAT SCARE THE LEADERSHIP AT THE TIME

BECAUSE THEY HAD WRONGFULLY TAKEN HIM AND

BEATEN HIM AND MISTREATED HIM AND VIOLATED HIS

RIGHTS, BUT WHAT PAUL UNDERSTOOD IS IF HE HAD

ASSERTED HIS RIGHTS, HE WOULD HAVE A GREATER VOICE

FOR THE GOSPEL, HE COULD REACH MORE PEOPLE.

AND SO I ALWAYS ENCOURAGE FOLKS, IF YOU CAN REACH

MORE PEOPLE BY ASSERTING YOUR RIGHTS AND GOING

FORWARD, THAT'S ABSOLUTELY WHAT THE LORD WOULD HAVE

YOU TO DO.

IN OUR TIME, ONE OF THE MEANS OF ANTI-CHRISTIAN

PERSECUTION, WHETHER BY GOVERNMENT, OR BY THE

MEDIA OR ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TO HINDER GOD'S

KINGDOM ON EARTH, IS BY RELABELING HATE.

FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU DISAGREE WITH SAME-SEX

THEY CLAIM THAT AT THIS TIME THERE ARE SUPPOSEDLY

917 HATE GROUPS IN AMERICA.

CRITICS NOTE THAT MIXED IN WITH THE KKK, SKINHEADS,

AND NEO-NAZIS, ARE LEGITIMATE CHRISTIAN AND

CONSERVATIVE ORGANIZATIONS THAT DON'T AGREE WITH THE

RADICAL LEFT'S AGENDA.

WHAT WE HAVE TODAY IS AN ORGANIZATION THAT, IN

CONTINUING ITS MISSION, HAS LOST SIGHT OF SOME

RECEIVING THROUGH THEIR MAIL FUNDRAISING OPERATION

TO PROMOTE THEMSELVES SO THEY THEN CAN SELL THIS

MESSAGE THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO IMPLANT IN THE

MINDS OF AMERICANS TO TURN AMERICANS AGAINST

TRADITIONAL VALUES, AGAINST OUR CHRISTIAN

HERITAGE.

SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER HAS THE RIGHT TO

SPEAK, BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIBEL,

DEFAME OR SLANDER AN ORGANIZATION LIKE D. JAMES

Saying Goodbye to the Pigs - Part 1 - Duration: 10:42.

Hi I'm Mike, We raise pigs here on the ranch for the sale of pork to our farmers market

customers. Each litter of pigs is filled with excitement and sorrow. When they arrive here

we laugh, we play with them and they are a lot of fun. But along with that comes to sorrow

of having see them go. Today we say goodbye to this years pigs, on our Wyoming life.

Welcome to our Wyoming life. If you haven't yet, please subscribed and join us and explore

the ranch life and escape the ordinary. Neither Erin or I were raised on a ranch,

and as many ranchers will tell you, you shouldn't get too attached to your animals. Don't

name them, don't get to know them, look at them as a crop and when its time for them

to go, its that much easier. I guess because we weren't raised here and we only came

to the family ranch a few years ago, we have never been able to follow those rules. So

when its time to say goodbye its sometimes its hard, whether its calves, pigs, chickens,

it doesn't matter. As farmers and ranchers, we look at ourselves

as stewards of the land and the animals that live here, we make sure they have the best

life they can while they are here but in the end they all serve a purpose.

By us raising pork and beef we are supplying hundreds of families with the food they need

and want. We make sure that our animals are taken care of in the best way possible, and

we don't use any hormones or antibiotics, we pride ourselves in that.

Now its time for us to take the pigs away, they will be loaded onto a trailer and driven

to Sturgis SD to a USDA inspected meat packaging facility. We were actually scheduled to take

them in a couple of weeks but we got the call this morning that they can take them sooner,

on Monday actually. That news kicks us into a little higher gear,

ya see, we still don't have a way to load the pigs into a trailer. My plan was over

the next week to build a load out ramp for them, that has now been put as the top priority

around here and that's were we are going to start today.

This is the shed where the pigs live, they have lived here most of their lives, we got

them from a pig breeder back in July of last year, if you remember, Mitch and I carried

them out of a dog carrier and into their new home. They have had two stalls in this shed

to live in and we have shuffled them from side to side, when we needed to clean one

side they would go stay in the other for awhile. When they first came here they only ate a

few pounds of food per day, now they eat between 6-8 pounds of food per day each, around 50

pounds per day with all 7 of them chowing down and over their entire time here on the

ranch each pig will eat about 800 lbs of pig food.

They also get scraps from the garden, the kids this summer loved to feed them and the

pigs never did mind a little treat. With the time for them to go rapidly approaching,

we need a way to get them on a trailer, in the past we have set up panels but this year

with them in the shed we have a new opportunity to load them out and hopefully it will be

a little easier. This end of their shed is easily accessed by a trailer, our plan is

to build a ramp for them, a loading chute and then cut a hole in their shed where the

chute will sit. On the other end of that chute will be the trailer and we can load them directly

from their stall. Its easier said than done.

Before we can even get a trailer backed up to where we need it, we are going to have

to move some more snow. Moving snow has become by daily activity here lately and I still

have the box blade on the tractor. Using the box blade we can get right up close to the

shed, and pull the snow out of the way, taking it down and piling it up with some other snow

that we have been clearing out already. Now we can go and grab the trailer. First

though I am going to fill the pickup with fuel, mostly because getting back to our fuel

tanks in the winter with a trailer is a bit of pain and we don't want to have to fill

up before we take off for Sturgis on Monday. We always keep gasoline and diesel on hand

on the ranch and 500 gallon tanks pump out just like they do at the gas station. Once

we are full, we can go and get the trailer. When hauling the pigs we will take our 16

foot steel trailer, we have a few trailer to choose from but in all honesty this is

the only one that the light work on right now. Our 20 foot aluminum trailer needs a

new wiring harness, which I haven't gotten to yet.

Once we've got it all hooked up, and the safety chains attached, then its off, but

not to the pig shed yet. First we head to the shop, where we are going build our new

loading chute. These trailers have two different ways of

loading animals into them. They feature a sliding door for backing up to chutes and

a larger swing door that is handy for unloading or loading from a larger gate or corrals.

Our new loading chute will use the sliding gate to load the pigs so first we measure

it for width. With all the outside prep work done for now,

we can now head into the shop, where I already have my materials for this project laid out.

A few 4x8 sheets of particle board and some 2x4s.

We start with the base of the ramp, cutting a ¾ inch piece of particle board down to

30 inches, the width of our chute. We get it up off the ground using some 2x4s and cut

it with a circular saw. Space is a little tight in the shop this time of year, so getting

this cut down will make us some more room as well.

On the trailer itself there is a lip which is part of the sliding door, we are going

to make our ramp so it slips over that lip, cutting our 2x4s that are going to support

the bottom of the ramp and leaving a small gap in the rail to slip over the lip of the

trailer gate. After screwing our rails in place we can drag it outside and test fit

it on the trailer before adding our upright portions of the chute.

These supports will hold up the side walls of the chute and are probably the most important

part of the entire assembly. These pigs weight around 250lbs apiece and will be placing plenty

of strain on the structure of the supports and sidewalls. Making sure they are solid

is very important, unless we want to be chasing pigs around. Each upright is put in place,

then a solid top rail is put in place before adding top cross pieces to hold the side walls

together. In all reality, like many things around here,

I have never done this before. The plan is kind of a work in progress, but do far it

seem to be pretty strong and with the addition of some ½ particle board for the sides its

holding together pretty well. One thing I didn't anticipate is how heavy

the darn thing would be, so in order to lighten it a bit we are going to cut off any material

we don't need. Shaving the side walls down to size and lightening it just a bit. We are

also going to screw on some more supports to the side wall uprights on the bottom of

the chute, to hopefully keep the pigs from spreading the entire thing out as they move

up it. And I think that's it, Its not the prettiest

thing in the world but I think it will work. Lets load it up into the trailer for the short

trip over to the pig shed. Finally, back outside and with the pigs. First

we need to cost them up in the other stall. As you can see they have chewed on the gate

we built earlier in the year. So using a piece of plywood over the hole we can close them

in and take a look at what we have to work with inside the shed. This shed is old, I

have no idea how old but we do have to worry about the structural integrity somewhat. We

know we need a hole that is 33 inches wide and about 40 inches tall to fit our chute

into. Using a reciprocating saw we can cut out the hole pretty quickly, clean it up a

bit and get ready to bring in the chute, which we need to make just a little bit bigger to

get it to fit. Soon after getting it in place, the pigs let

themselves in to check it out as we make some final adjustment. Moving the chute to a place

where the pigs will be able to get up to it and its not too steep for them to get up.

With the sun setting, I'm going to call it good here for the day. The shop is a mess

but we have our new chute in place. Its now Saturday night, I'm going to get this video

edited and up for you. As you are watching on Sunday, we will be out adding some runners

to the chute floor so the pigs have some traction as they go up, we are going to weigh a couple

process of getting these guys to Sturgis this year.

The pig ramp and chute were actually going to be Tuesdays project list video so we just

got bumped up by a couple of days, I hope you come back on Tuesday and check out the

My prayer for you today is that you would be blessed

"Blessed" means to be happy

and content

"Blessed" doesn't mean necessarily to have a lot of nice things

it means that from your heart you will be satisfied and full of the joy of the Lord

no matter what your circumstance

So I pray that you would be blessed today beyond what you could ever ask or imagine

I pray that you would be blessed when it doesn't make any sense to your mind

only to your heart

no matter what your circumstances are

whether you like them or not

I pray that the blessings of God

would flow through your heart

and you would just enjoy

His presence in your life

His blessings in your life

the opportunities - good and bad - that He allows you to go through

knowing that He will never leave you

or forsake you

My prayer

is that you would be blessed, and I pray this in Jesus' name,

How Whistleblowers Are Victimized In America - Duration: 2:26.

This last story that we have time to talk about is a whistleblower.

You and I always talk about how whistleblowers have become victimized.

We've had two presidents.

First of all, you had George Bush say, "I'm gonna take your whistleblowers," and of course,

just the opposite happened.

Obama said, "I'm gonna make sure whistleblowers are safe."

It got worse, if you can imagine with Obama.

Nothing happens to government sometimes or corrupt corporations unless somebody comes

and tells a story because you can't find out.

It has to be somebody inside.

What's your take on this US intelligence where they're actually trying to shut down whistleblowers

by way of retaliation.

The whistleblowers are crazy important in our society because whistleblowers are usually

internal folks in the know that can go to their superiors or an outside agency and point

out wrongdoing and the Whistleblower Acts Group were created under Lincoln when people

were selling integral parts for the war and filling them with sand.

You've handed several of these cases.

Yeah.

In each case, wouldn't you agree, the ones that I've handled, I've seen ... Well, actually,

I've worked on with you.

The ones I've seen, it's like the person coming forward that's saying, "You need to know something.

The defense industry, this weapons manufacturer is stealing billions of dollars from tax payers

and oh, by the way, I have the documents.

Here they are.

Here's the information right here."

Now you take it to the government and what happens to that whistleblower?

He becomes a victim, doesn't he?

Well, it's scary and the example in this story that just came out from the Daily Beast was

that in the spy industry, the cloak and dagger industry, when you have the whistleblowers

coming forth, that I think it was one out of 190 cases had ruled in favor of the whistleblower

and that they were getting fired left and right.

They weren't protected and that's one of the key pieces of these whistleblower cases is

that the whistleblower is petrified.

Can you imagine in this cloak and dagger industry how scared the whistleblower is to come forward,

say what they know and then wants to be protected and they need to be protected.

It promotes an efficiency within our government.

But if we're not taking care of them and it's another coverup.

They're not finding any wrongdoing in case after case after case and they're they're

taking years and years and years to come to conclusion.

Yeah.

They're victimized.
