Hi, my name is Amanda. Welcome back to my channel, Fandom Matters. The purpose of
today's video is to tell you about my favorite TV shows that I watched in 2017
I love watching shows. I love watching Netflix.
I feel like TV shows have just gotten a lot better in quality over the past few
years and there have been some really interesting things on Netflix in
particular that I've been enjoying. When I hear about a show one or two times, I
try to always jump on it if the premise sounds interesting to me and I just
posted about my favorite books that I read in 2017 if you want to watch that.
I'll leave that down in the description and up in the I. This list of TV shows
will have all of my favorites except for my top favorite of 2017, which will be in
an upcoming collab video. So these shows are all of my favorites except for my
number one favorite that I watched this year and you will learn about that later.
Okay so one of my absolute favorite shows that I watched this year I watched
pretty recently after hearing about it on my friends Paul and Rachel's podcast,
That's the show. You should definitely check out the podcast. They watch so many
shows and know so much about television in general and the show that I learned
from their podcast is The Good Place. I watched all of season 1 on Netflix and
then I've been watching season 2 on Hulu. This show is so fun. It's very funny.
It's intellectual. It's a lot of the things that I look for in an enjoyable
show and I don't watch a lot of comedy or sitcoms but this one borders on that
and borders on a drama I would say and it's really up my alley so if you find
that you have similar show interest as me I feel like you would like this. There
is a character who is an ethics and moral philosophy professor and I was a
philosophy minor in school so I find that character really interesting and
funny. He's just this big dork. In the beginning of the show, the main character
Eleanor dies and goes to the good place. She realizes that she is not supposed to
be there because she is not the person they think she is who did all these wonderful
things and a lot of great charity work. She was kind of like an average -
borderline shitty person and so she's trying to fit in and then these horrible
things are happening and she thinks that it's because she's there and she's not
supposed to be there. Each person is supposed to be matched with a soulmate,
their true soulmate and then her soul mate is Chidi, who is this moral
philosophy professor and then one of their neighbors, Tahani,
she is this super, super wealthy woman who does a lot of these grand fundraising
projects and she is like very attractive and wears these very nice dresses and so
that's kind of her character. One of my favorite characters in the show is Janet
who is kind of like a Siri-like robot type person who just magically appears.
She is so funny and charming and I love her so much.
Definitely one of my favorite parts of the show. It's way better than how I'm
describing it. I highly recommend you watch it. Kristen Bell is the main
character in the show too and she's a great actress. Stranger Things season 2
is kind of a given. I don't really enjoy scary things but this is just not scary
enough for me to enjoy it. Season 2 was maybe even better than season 1 for me
because you got to know the characters a little bit more, except for poor Will, that
poor kid. Like everybody, I enjoyed babysitter Steve because you know I'm
stereotypical I guess. I also really find Nancy very interesting. If you enjoy any
sci-fi shows obviously you will probably like Stranger Things. Oh an unpopular
opinion or maybe not, I liked the lost sister episode. I liked being able to see
beyond the small universe and I liked being able to see some cool, different
superpowers and they can do a lot of those characters. I've never watched any
of the Marvel shows but I imagine that that episode is what a lot of those
shows, I feel like. So let me know if I'm correct about that. Another favorite is
Sense8. I started watching that over the summer I think and I kind of binge
watched the two seasons that are up and I, like everybody else, was very sad. I
actually finished watching it just a couple days before it was canceled so
that was kind of heartbreaking. I am glad that they're going to bring back a movie
to finish that storyline. Leaving it where it ends in season two is just
upsetting but I love that show because it shows so many interesting
perspectives. All of the characters are so loveable and amazing. They're all
really attractive people and they're all interesting people. They all have flaws
in their own ways and I love stories that kind of tie people and storylines
together. Fuller house is on my list because I love the nostalgia of that
show. It just brings me a lot of comfort. Full House is a show I would watch when
I was like home sick as a kid and when I was a senior in high school I had really
bad stomach problems with my irritable bowel syndrome and
so that was a show that I always watched a lot when I was not feeling well and it
brought me a lot of comfort and then just seeing it back again it's so
whimsical and silly and it just it's easy to watch if you're just tired and
you just want something light-hearted on. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a
silly show. And on a darker note, The Handmaid's Tale. I watched that on Hulu
this year and it's amazing. That book is one of my favorites. I love the power of
that story and the new ways that they're twisting it for the show like the new
storyline about Luke, Offred's husband. It's amazing. I loved that episode. It's kind
of similar to the lost sister episode in Stranger Things where it takes you out
of the regular and original narrative and tells you a new side to the story
and I really like that. I thought that was very clever
writing of them and I can't wait to see where they go for season two because
then they'll be branching outside of the world of the book. So I'm really looking
forward to seeing what they do but I loved how powerful that story was. It was
very important for me to watch it. Black mirror. I think I started watching that
at the end of 2016 but that fed into 2017 and I started the new season that
just came out yesterday. I watched the first two episodes. A lot of people are
not liking it or not liking the season as a whole but I love the format of
Black Mirror, how you get an individual story per episode, so there's no
pressure to keep watching it really and I enjoy that I can just sit down and
take in one story at a time if I want to. I like how the show or each episode
thinks through a different scenario. They take something from our world today and
show a darker spin on it and show how humanity interacting with technology can
go bad or dark and while I don't think that technology is a bad thing, obviously
I'm sitting here making YouTube videos, I can see the potential downsides to
things when human error takes things too far and I really love
watching that play out on TV, but in small doses. I almost forgot to add Game
of Thrones onto my list. I really enjoyed that. I've made a few videos about a
few of the episodes as they were airing. I love Game of Thrones. I love the
characters of Game of Thrones. That's kind of a given but figured I'd give it
a mention real quick. A Series of Unfortunate Events I believe came out at
the end of 2016 and I think I was still watching it at the beginning
of 2017. I love a lot of adaptations and I really enjoyed that one. I thought it
was very very true to the spirit of the novels and those novels were very
important to me in my childhood and I really loved seeing them play out on
screen. And just a reminder I will be going over my number one favorite show
that I watched in 2017 in my next video which is a collab going over three
reasons why you should watch a certain show. I will see you in my next video, bye!
