Accessible Apartment Hacks (Episode 15) - Duration: 11:51.

Our Wheel World

*barks*

Hello You Tube

Hi everybody

We're back

we're back, we've been recovering from England, getting back to

Life

life, and thinking about what kind of content we want to keep doing on Our Wheel World

Cuz we do want to keep doing it, and to that end, we bought ourselves a brand new camera

mhhmmm, we are now shooting on the G9X from Cannon and we think the quality is going to be a lot better

And it will also give us more reason to keep making awesome videos

ya, so we have a bunch of stuff we want to talk about,

but today we're going to talk about how we made our non-accessible apartment accessible

cuz we've had this question before from people and there are a lot of factors to consider

and even though we've been here for 5 years, it's not perfect

there's a lot of problems still

This unit was not designed for accessibility

It has a lot of advantages, but also a lot of drawbacks

so we're going to talk a little bit about that, MTV cribs style

ya we're going to show you our crib

Our accessible crib!

Our accessible crib!

One of the first things we had to do in terms of choosing an apartment building

Obviously was make sure that it was one where the front entrance didn't have a step

Now one of the not ideal parts about this building, even though the entrance is, obviously accessible,

Is that to get to it you have to go up this really really steep driveway

There are alternative entrances to this building, but they are not accessible

So Tim is in a power chair that he can go up and down that driveway

But we have friends in manual chairs who really struggle

and in the winter when its icy, its pretty much a death trap

so that is one trade off that we had to make

So also, when we first moved into the building, they had this door button opener

because obviously Tim couldn't really open the door on his own

So this door was automatic, but oddly enough (let's see if it will focus)

The second door wasn't

Which would still mean that Tim couldn't get in

So we actually asked the building to install a door opener for this second door and they did

legally, they sort of have to, they put up no argument against that

Another accessible thing we looked for was multiple elevators, our building has 3

3 seems to be the magic number

we've never had all 3 go down, we've had 2 go down, and that's frustrating

but at least we're not entirely stuck

So another thing that's not ideal about our apartment is that we live on the 18th floor

which is kind of nice for the view, but ideally we would be on a ground floor

So that if we had to evacuate, or the elevators broke down, Tim could actually get out

that's not something we were able to do when we were looking for apartments, it really limits your options

So its another part of an un ideal situation, but one we've been fine with

Ya, i mean as Natalie said, its tough in terms of needing to evacuate

but touch wood, we haven't had to do that yet

So another thing we had to think about was how Tim was going to be able to open our unit door

So we have a solution, it doesn't always work, lets see if it works this time.

Oh, it worked, there we go, see it automatically opens

so we can come inside, here is our messy apartment, but that is ok

So obviously, the door button opener was not here when we moved in

we installed something ourselves that was not very good

and eventually we lobbied our landlord again to say that they needed to install this automatic door opener

because we claimed it was a rights issue

which it was

and said that everybody else has the ability of access into their units, and Tim doesn't

and its a big company, and you know what, they just did it

Tim has this button on his tray that he can press to open the door

Or for anyone who is inside, they just have to push this

and the door will open just like any other door that you would find in public

Ok so here we are in our dark bedroom because we wanted to show you a newer accessibility feature that we've added

It's not crucial, but its certainly nice, and Tim can demonstrate

Alexa, Bedroom On

We got ourselves an amazon Alexa

An Amazon Echo

An Amazon Echo, and we have added Phillips Hue wifi controlled lights throughout the apartment

and that allows Tim to control all the lights, well it allows anybody to control all the lights with just our voice, which is really nice

We can do the whole apartment on...

We can say, Alexa All Lights On

And they will all come on like so

A way to control lights is really important, we actually always had some way to control lights

We had a remote, we had iPhone controlled lights for a while, but would you say that the voice activated is the best?

Oh absolutely, Alexa is a great new addition to our life, she can also tell jokes

And also little things, like for a long time, Tim can't really see, like when he's lying in bed, he can't see a clock

and he can't pick up his iPhone to look like we might because its on the bedside table

So I used to ask her

He used to wake me up to ask me what time it was to make sure that he wasn't late for work, but now

Alexa, what's the time?

[electronic voice] The time is 3:34pm

Thank you

So that's a nice little bonus as well

That is really helpful actually in the mornings

So another feature that we had to install in our apartment to make it accessible, you saw some of this in our England videos

but this is a ceiling lift, with a track

Ceiling lifts are not cheap, and there is no funding for them, they are about 5,000 dollars

I used to work for the company, so I got a bit of a discount

The tracks themselves are relatively cheap, but you also have to pay for instillation

When I say cheap I mean like a couple hundred dollars, another couple hundred to install them

Another thing to consider when looking at apartments is space to get in and out of doors

And to be honest ours is a little bit tight

So Tim has a pretty good turning radius

But you can see, its not without some

markings

collateral damage

This might be a problem for some people but Tim has learned to live with it, its not ideal, but it's definitely usable.

Tim would have a bit of a harder time coming into this back bedroom here, but he doesn't really use it so it's not of huge concern

But having 2 bedrooms is another consideration we needed in finding an apartment

one because if I go out of town, Tim needs to have someone stay over with him at night

so we need to have something...somewhere for somebody else to sleep

I suppose that could be a sofa bed

but I also needed an office space for myself, and I also like to have my own space in the apartment when Tim has attendants here and whatnot

so again, maybe not crucial, but it felt pretty crucial for us to have a second bedroom as well.

So one of biggest factors we had to consider when moving into a non-accessible apartment was how Tim was going to shower

and for anybody who knows us, they know of the good ol' Tub Buddy

It has seen better days, but we are still using it

essentially we found this piece of equipment, that we crowd sourced, actually back before crowd sourcing was even really a thing

because it was about 3 thousand dollars that we didn't have

so essentially what this does, i'm not going to show you Tim actually taking a shower,

But in the bedroom Tim goes from the bed, you can see my bear there, to this Tub Buddy system here

and then his attendant, let's see if I can do this where it makes any sense

is going to push him in this chair, down the hallway

Our bathroom is extraordinarily small, and in fact the door width was so small that we had to take the door off

to give us enough inches for the Tub Buddy to fit in

So as you can see, we have no bathroom door, which is a bit of a bone of contention for me

And instead we've had this curtain for about 5 years

So his attendants will push him in this chair to right about here

You can see there is a piece that fits in the bathtub, which I also have to move around when I shower

And essentially, i'm not going to do it all, but there is a bridge that connects these two pieces, and Tim can then slide over into the shower

to take a shower

Accessible bathrooms are one of the biggest concerns for a disabled person trying to fit into an non-accessible space

This is the solution we came up with. Unfortunately the Tub Buddy is quite broken all these years later

There's no more breaks, a lot of the fittings on this piece don't work anymore, we're down to sort of one suction cup, so hope it sticks

and the cost of a Tub Buddy has now gone up to about 6 thousand dollars that we don't have, and we can't find any funding for

So I hope to make another video in the future talking about the problems with acquiring vital equipment

because i'd say that showering is pretty vital

But this is the situation we have. It does allow Tim to shower in this very non accessible bathroom

and it's what's working for us right now

So we hope you liked our video about our accessible apartment

There are probably some other things that we aren't even thinking about, but I think we covered the majority of things that make this accessible

and if you have any questions, let us know

And thank you to everyone who has subscribed

we've been getting new subscribers even though we haven't posted a video in a while so that's

That's really cool

that's really cool and it gives us a reason to keep going and keep making videos

So thank you to everyone, share this with your friends and get them to subscribe and we'd love to see you on our channel

Home Remedies for Constipation - StayHealthyTV - Duration: 6:30.

Home Remedies for Constipation Don't you just hate it when your bowels

seem to stop working and you feel so blocked up!

We've all been there!

Sure, over the counter medicines can be very effective but here's the good news: home

remedies can also help you get much needed relief (no pun intended).

Today, StayHealthyTV will tell you 8 of the best natural remedies for constipation.

These tips are the go-to solution our family turns to for immediate constipation relief.

If you want to know how to relieve constipation naturally, then keep watching our vid!

Here we go:

1.

Water As obvious as it sounds, drink more water.

Hard, dry stools are a common cause of constipation, so the more water you add, the easier it will

be to pass the stool.

But remember this: avoid coffee, soda and alcohol while you're experiencing constipation

because they are diuretics.

Diuretics dehydrate your body by causing fluid loss through increased urination.

This may make constipation worse.

2.

Fibre Eat more fibre.

Fibre is a natural laxative.

It increases the water content of your stool and helps bulk it up.

This will help your bowel movement move more quickly and smoothly through your colon.

Abruptly changing your fibre intake can cause gas and bloating, so gradually increase your

dietary fibre intake over a few meals

And I am sure we all know about this one!

3.

Prunes And for those that don't?

Eat prunes!

Prunes are high in fibre, so they are a good choice for increasing your fibre intake.

They also contain sorbitol, a stool-loosening sugar that naturally helps relieve constipation.

4.

Olive Oil Take a tablespoon of olive oil before eating

breakfast in the morning.

As a nutrient-dense oil, this natural cure stimulates the digestive tract.

It also lubricates the bowels and provides antioxidant protection at the same time.

5.

Probiotics Yogurt and kefir make for an excellent breakfast,

whether it's consumed as is, or mixed with your favourite breakfast cereal or grain-free

granola.

Friendly bacteria encourage healthy bowels which translates to easier evacuation.

Increased frequency, better stool consistency, and a reduced digestive transit time have

all been observed with individuals who consume probiotics.

6 Beans Rich in fibre, a meal containing beans shares

many similar benefits as one containing prunes, but one things for sure, the fibre keeps stool

soft, and the protein has added benefits for growth and repair of bodily tissues.

Beans also possess nutrients essential for muscle health and function.

For many people, beans may be easier to incorporate into their daily meal plans than prunes.

7.

Magnesium-Rich Foods Magnesium is essential to muscle health and

the movement of food along the digestive tract.

Low magnesium consumption has been associated with an increased incidence of constipation.

Adequate magnesium intake directs water to the bowels, keeping the stool soft and easier

to move.

Green leafy vegetables like spinach, nuts, and fish are high in magnesium.

8.

Baking Soda and Warm Water Mix one teaspoon of baking soda in a quarter

cup of warm water.

This mixture is said to relieve pain and pressure associated with constipation, and the bicarbonate

is believed to reduce symptoms associated with heartburn.

The quicker you finish drinking, the better it seems to work.

So that's our best 8 constipation home remedies.

But wait!

We're not finished yet!

Here are 4 more, additional, helpful tips: 1.

Avoid cheese and dairy products.

Cheese and dairy products usually contain lactose, which can cause gas, bloating, and

constipation for some people.

If you're having trouble with constipation, cut cheese and most other dairy products out

of your diet until you're feeling better.

2.

One of the causes of constipation occurs most often because people don't have enough fibre

and/or water in their diet.

Constipation can also occur as a result of too little exercise, or it can be a side effect

of a number of different drugs.

3.

Everyone experiences this phenomenon from time to time, but the good news is there are

a number of safe, gentle and natural remedies to both relieve and prevent constipation.

With some minor adjustments to your daily routine, you can deal with this problem inexpensively

and in the privacy of your own home.

4.

Natural remedies and lifestyle changes can help you deal with constipation now, and prevent

it from reoccurring later.

If you are dealing with recurring constipation and if none of the methods outlined above

help, see a healthcare professional.

Are there any other natural methods you use for constipation?

Please share your comments with us below, we would love to hear from you.

[2017 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION] Meet the Candidates: #3 Ahn Cheol-soo - Duration: 10:44.

It's just eleven days away: The day South Koreans will head to the polls to elect a

new president.

It's a snap presidential election that precipitated from the impeachment of an ex-president over

an alleged bribery scandal.

To help you better analyze each candidate and their policy pledges, we've been meeting

with the leading contenders this week.

And, based on the number of parliamentary seats...

Today, I sit down with Ahn Cheol-soo, presidential nominee of the People's Party.

I want to get a bit personal with this question.

So, you are a medical doctor, a software programmer, an IT entrepreneur - a very successful one,

too - a university professor, and a politician.

That's unusual in and of itself but now, you're running to take

on one of the toughest jobs I can think of especially now than ever.

The president of the Republic of Korea.

Why?

When I was working at a university as a professor, a student came to see me one day.

As he confided in me his worries, he shed tears.

I jumped into politics because I no longer wanted see young Koreans cry.

It was then that I made up my mind to do my part in making this country a better place

to live.

The Korean peninsula at the moment is under the international radar.

There's been a rapid escalation of tensions in this part of the world.

Continuous provocations by the North Korean regime.

What is your policy vis-a-vis Pyongyang?

Ahn: Right.

The most critical issue facing the Republic of Korea today is North Korea's nuclear program.

In order to resolve this important security issue, we must work with our ally, the United

States.

But, there is also the China factor.

I believe it is only right for South Korea to actively explain our situation to China.

That much diplomatic effort must be made.

We need to explain to China that when it comes to security issues, it's only natural for

us to work with the U.S. and our allies and that tensions on the Korean peninsula will

only mean harm for China's national interest as well.

Therefore, for the sake of both Korea and China, we should take a two-track approach

in separating the economy and national security.

I think this should be the ultimate goal for Korea's diplomacy.

On the diplomatic front - South Korea not in the best situation currently.

There is a new president in the White House - very different from the last president with

a seemingly different approach to the North Korea issue.

There is China to the north, in a clash of interest with South Korea.

How would you best situate yourself so that South Korea puts the best foot forward in

this complex relationship?

Looking back in history, the Korean peninsula suffered every time there was a change in

dynamics between the superpowers.

We're at the juncture of a change in dynamics right now and I believe the Republic of Korea

has emerged as an attractive middle power.

Not only are we now able to pioneer our own destiny, I believe we can even play an active

mediator role in U.S., China conflict.

As for U.S. President Donald Trump, he and I are both businessmen and alumni of Wharton

School of Business.

I'm sure we will have a lot in common as soon as we kick off our dialogue.

Such is the case for China, as well.

I went school in the U.S. and I've done business in China and Japan.

I've worked on various projects with the Chinese government.

I will make the best use of such experience and try to take a leading role in our diplomatic

relations with the U.S. and China.

Economic growth and jobs.

I think it's an issue that comes up every election season and not only here but all

across the globe.

Having been a young entrepreneur yourself, having been a CEO of a startup… having been

part of that world yourself, do you have a blueprint of how you would steer Asia's fourth-largest

economy so that the benefits will trickle down to the ordinary people, too?

Different politicians have varying views on the role politics cay play on the economy.

Some say, "I will revive the economy.

I will create jobs."

I disagree with them.

If politics could directly boost the economy, how can we explain Japan's 20-year-long recession

even after injecting all that money?

I do not believe it's something politics can do.

In other words, it's the private sector that can create jobs or boost the economy.

The government's role is to create a strong foundation on which the private sector and

companies can perform well.

Then, what is that foundation?

I believe it's the following three: One, nurturing creative minds through the right kind of education.

Two, proper investment in science and technology so that we can possess leading-edge science

and technology.

And, three, creating an environment where fair competition is possible and anyone with

talent and capability can succeed.

#CG1 CG

1.

Education reform to nurture creative minds 2.

Proper investment in science and technology 3.

Environment that allows fair competition

If we can create such an environment where there are plenty of talented minds, leading-edge

science and technology and fair competition, many Koreans will be hopeful enough to take

on new challenges.

This, I believe, will breathe life into the economy.

This is my vision of the government's role in revitalizing the Korean economy.

Now, my final question - a common question to all candidates.

What is your edge over others?

Why does the Republic of Korea need Ahn Cheol-soo as president in 2017?

You cannot become the president of a country because you want the job.

Nor is it handed to you because you're prepared for the job.

It's only when you are demanded by the age, the era that you become the president.

Only when the people decide that you are the one who can properly reflect and realize the

spirit of that age, are you given presidency.

Then, what do the Korea people want from the next administration?

I believe it's these three.

One, a government that can best prepare the country for the future.

Two, a competent government.

And, three, one that can unite the people, the country.

#CG2 CG

1.

Government that can best prepare for the future 2.

Government that is competent and capable 3.

Government that can unite the people, the country

We are now in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

One characteristic of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is that it's unpredictable.

Therefore, it can easily head in the wrong direction if the government creates a plan

beforehand and lead that way.

Rather, this is the age where the government's role is to provide support from the behind.

Instead of making decisions for the private sector and taking the lead, the government

should give them independence and freedom to make their business decisions and the government

back them up.

This is the kind of government that best prepares for the future.

The same applies to government competence.

Proficiency isn't something you can just verbally claim.

Rather, the presidential candidate must be able to prove his or her competence by their

past achievements.

I am a medical doctor, information technology scientist, entrepreneur, and professor-turned-politician.

I have proven my competence in all five areas.

I have written success stories in all five.

These will serve as a yardstick in deciding which government led by which candidate will

be most capable.

Voters should be able to learn what all presidential candidates have achieved and how they have

proven their competence.

It should be written into a chart as these are objective facts.

Finally, a government that unites all people isn't one that tries to make others believe

in what it believes.

Democracy is acknowledging that people have different views and through constant communication

and democratic process, a decision is drawn up.

And, that decision is respected and accepted.

What is democracy?

It's the wisdom to live with people who have different views.

From that perspective, I believe a candidate who is trapped in political faction cannot

break free from those boundaries.

Instead of uniting the country, he/she will further divide people.

I don't think it's too difficult to judge which candidate is part of a specific faction

and which candidate can properly unite the nation.

From that point of view, I believe these are the three keywords for the next administration:

Future, competence, and unity.

If that is the case, I am confident that I am the right person for the job.

Ahn: Yea.

Ahn: Thank you.
