Hi everyone!
Today I am going to cut open a jackfruit.
This jackfruit was like almost twenty pounds.
Stay tune for my other video where I show you how cook them.
First of all, ahhh it smells good.
Man my house for the last two days smells pretty bad.
The smell is…I don't know…what it is.
It's like…
It smells good when you are going close to it.
But, around the air it kinda smells like durian.
Or it smells funky.
Let's open this sucker up!
So first of all, there's sap in it.
And the sap will get all over your hands.
You actually should be using gloves for this.
But, I'm going to be using grape seed oil to cover my hands.
For the knife you just want to coat the whole entire knife with oil.
And you can use any oil.
I'm using grape seed, I see people using olive oil or sesame oil, coconut oil.
Just any oil you have on hand.
I just happen to have grape seed oil that I don't really use that often.
Just coat it all up.
Coat your hand because the sap will get on your hands too.
I'm just going to do a nice coating.
If you pick a good one then there will be no sap.
So you just stick it in.
And just put some pressure on it.
And just go all around
Sap can ruin your knife, so don't use a really good knife for this.
I would recommend using a knife that you're okay with ruining or throwing it away.
Oh my gosh this smells so good once it's opened.
Once it opened it kind of smells like a cantaloupe, banana.
So I got this side all cut up here, let me do a little on this side.
Okay
hopefully i got it deep enough.
And I am going to turn it the other way.
Here are some fun facts about jackfruit
Jackfruit is infused with a diverse set of vitamins such as vitamin C and A, calcium,
potassium, iron, zinc, sodium and folic acid.
It is one of the few trees rich in B-complex group vitamins as well as vitamin B6.
After you cut it.
You just rip it open apart
Like so.
da laaaaa
Well see this is ripped.
So there's no sap.
So this is perfectly ripened.
And I really wouldn't need much oil.
You can see that there's not much sap on it.
So as long as you pick one that is ripe.
You'll know if it is ripped if it has all these spots, brown spots on it.
And then when you push it, it kind of gives in, it's soft.
If it's really hard, then that means it still need time to ripened
Let me lift this up to show you guys.
oh this is heavy.
Look how beautiful it is inside.
And it smells so good!
So once it is opened, see these, the yellow part is the meaty part.
And that part you can eat.
And the white part is what you would have to separate to get into the meat.
You'll cut out the white part in the middle.
That white part in the middle you don't eat at all.
It's just a…basically a core.
Like the core of a….
What fruit has cores?
Like a core of a…..
a pear..?
The texture is meaty.
That's why a lot of vegetarian recipes call for it.
When you cook it it basically taste like shredded meat of any kind.
Shredded chicken, shredded beef
Okay, so when you take it out, this is a whole one.
And this is the white stuff you need to just peel away like a banana peel.
Here's the seed
You can actually eat the seed.
You just boil it and once you boil it, take out the outer skin, the inside you can eat it.
So I will save that and I'll show you how it taste and how you cook it.
They are pretty much stuck in-between each other like hair.
If you ever look through your nostrils and you have hair all over your nostrils
that's what this reminds me of
I'm sorry for the gross analogy to food, but I don't know why that's what comes
up to me in my weird little head
So I am just going to keep going at this and I will show you what it looks like and how
much yield I got from this one big fruit.
It's all done.
Took it all out and here is the fruits.
The little pods of fruits.
There so good and so sweet.
And basically this whole fruit you don't waste much because with the seeds that I have
saved here.
You can roast it or boil it and you de-skin it and it taste like chest nuts.
So it's really good.
Stay tune for another video of how to cook it and I'll show you both roasting and boiling
It was so good.
It taste like mango, bananas, it taste like a whole bunch of fruits add into one.
It's so yummy.
The texture is great.
I can eat this all day.
Seriously I can eat this all day long, it's so good.
I better because there is so much fruit left.
I hope you enjoy watching me open the jackfruit.
It was a lot of fun and I was so shocked at how much fruit was actually in it.
