In this video, we're going to talk about three related concepts from Aristotle.

Ethos, pathos, and logos. And if you have not yet been exposed to this kind of

material, it will absolutely help you take your next presentation up a notch.

So, let's get into it.

Hello again friends. I'm Alex Lyon and if you've never subscribed to Communication

Coach, this channel, I encourage you to do so. This channel is here for rising

leaders, people like you to help you increase your personal impact so you can

lead the people around you to higher levels of excellence. And one of the ways

we do this on the channel is by [looking at] presentation skills. And today we're

going to look at three related concepts: Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. These have, even

though they're textbook type concepts, they have direct application for you as

a speaker. And you can use these right away. So let's unpack these each and show

you how you can apply them. The first is ethos. And that means your

personal credibility as a speaker. A lot of times people think that because ethos

looks like the word ethics, that's all it means. And that's part of it. Abviously as

a speaker you have to have good character. You also, however, have to be an

expert. You have to have credentials. You have to be qualified to speak in a way

that people would want to listen to you. Very few of us have a public reputation

already. And so one of the ways you can do this in your presentations is if

you're being introduced by somebody before you speak, make sure the person

introducing you has a little bit of information about your background so

they can position you as someone worth listening to. If you don't have someone

introducing you, then you want to talk about any research that you've done to

prepare for this presentation, any personal experience or connection that

you have to the topic. You want to position yourself as someone that has

ethos, someone that has the credibility, the believability so that people will

want to listen to you. And you can almost always do this right in the introduction

of your presentation. Let's turn now to pathos. Pathos is where the speaker

appeals to the emotions of the listeners. So, you want to use things like vivid

language, metaphors, and probably the most effective way that we can reach into the

hearts of our listeners is through personal stories. You can tell

stories about your own personal experiences or you can tell stories

about other people's experiences. There's nothing like a story to engage our

hearts and get us personally involved in it. It's almost like a story transports us

into the moment. And that's a great way to appeal to your audience's emotions. So

when you're presenting next, make sure as you're looking at your outline that you

have enough personal examples and little stories to bring people into that

emotional dimension of your presentation. So now let's talk about logos. Logos,

because it looks like the word logic, a lot of people think, oh that just means

logic. But there's a lot more to it than that. In fact, you want to think about it

in terms of using evidence and reason to construct your speech [argument]. You want to

develop your presentation around a series of facts and statistics and good

reasonable evidence. And one of the ways you can do this in a presentation and

make it work for you, is make sure you have a tight relationship between your

claim, that's your thesis, the thing you're trying to demonstrate, and the

evidence you are using. If you're claiming one thing and then you have to

stretch your evidence to fit it. People are going to start to notice that and

they're not going to be as willing to be brought along or convinced by your

message. So make sure you're thorough in your research and you integrate that

good high-quality research into your presentation. Then your presentation will

have good logos. So that way you have ethos, pathos, and logos you're going to

be way more persuasive overall as a speaker. Question of the day. What are

your thoughts about how to establish any of these three in your next presentation?

I would love to hear your comments and your tips below. I learn a lot from

reading your comments. So I look forward to reading those in the future. So thanks.

God bless. And I will see you in the next video.

Starting a YouTube Channel - 9 Easy Steps - Duration: 4:13.

Today I am going to talk about starting a video channel on YouTube.

Video has seen explosive growth.

Publishers, academics, educators, consultants, and others are embracing this easy and inexpensive

way to create quality content.

Here are the nine simple steps to getting started.

First, come up with the focus for your channel; what is the point to the content you will

be creating.

Develop a niche and see what other content is out there that serves this area.

The more focused the better.

Second, choose a platform.

I chose YouTube over other channels like Vimeo because of YouTube's connection with Google

Search as well as the broad audience the channel offers.

For YouTube, you will need to register will Google and create an account.

Sign into Creator Studio and name your video channel.

Think carefully about the name you choose.

By the way, the dashboard at YouTube is very valuable and shows views, subscribers, and

a host of other statistics.

Third, add graphics to the channel as well as information about you, links to your website,

social media, etc.

Fourth, you are ready to record.

Write a script.

Read it aloud several times.

Have a tight focus for the content.

I aim to have a video be three to five minutes in length.

Keep the videos in your area of focus.

Do not pinball all over the place with the topics that you choose.

Fifth, you are ready to record.

I use my existing iPhone 6 on a $10 tripod.

You can: speak from memory, make it up as you go along, or use teleprompter software.

I use the teleprompter software from JoeAllen Pro. $12.

It is easy to use.

I upload the script to the phone and I am ready to go.

Be mindful of the background, outside noises, and the lighting.

Test, test, test until you get it right.

I record in short segments and then link them together later.

When you are done, send the files to your computer.

Sixth, edit the files.

There are a few free video editing programs out there that work.

There are some that come with a cost.

All I do in the editor is trim the beginning and end of each clip, splice them together,

and add an introductory slide at the start.

Seventh, the file is ready.

I upload it to YouTube, add a thumbnail, and add my script in for closed captioning.

Most important is to be very diligent with tags about the video and a full description

under the Notes section including a transcript.

Eighth, publish the video.

Ninth, promote the video on social media, at your website, to your contacts, everywhere.

Make sure you ask everyone to subscribe to your channel.

Engage with your subscribers and other viewers.

All of the small steps mentioned so far (like creating a thumbnail) are very, very simple.

All have videos at YouTube on how to do them and they are incredible easy to follow.

None of these steps should scare you as being technical.

Believe me, they are not.

Each video for me takes less two hours to create from script writing to posting.

Total cost so far to create all the videos has been less than $25.

Scholars and academics can promote their work or do video abstracts.

Publishers can create videos from news articles or promote upcoming events.

Associations and societies can promote their meetings, engage members, or give updates

on new initiatives.

All of this is incredibly easy.

Have fun with it and experiment.

My enjoyment comes from the small changes in each video to the bookshelves behind me.

Easter eggs for my own amusement.

Well that's it.

08/28/2017 - Storm Harvey Update - Warmer Waters Are Fueling Hurricane Harvey's Power - Duration: 5:27.

Welcome to daily headlines your fastest news reporter please subscribe and check the notification bell to get latest news

Updated warmer waters are fueling hurricane harvey's power

The strongest storm to hit the coast of Texas in 47 years is barreling Toward Houston and is expected to make landfall

Late Friday or Early Saturday morning

Hurricane Harvey has already sparked evacuations and a broad state of emergency

while authorities await life-threatening conditions and the potential for massive flooding

It is expected to be the first category three hurricane to hit the United states in 12 years

That hurricane strength can be directly tied to our warming climate

Waters in the gulf of Mexico where harvey is forming are 5 degrees higher than normal warm waters helped fuel hurricanes?

Increasing wind speeds while allowing the air to hold more water, which will eventually fall as rain

Since Harvey is embedded within light year Louis surrounding wind speeds and moving over warm waters

Additional strengthening is anticipated before landfall in about 24 hours the national Hurricane Center said in a post at 4:00 a.m.

et on Friday emphasis added

There after gradual weakening is forecast

But since a good portion of the circulation will remain over water the weakening process could be slower than normal

The Outlook is not good

Harvey is expected to be a major hurricane at Landfall

bringing life-threatening storm surge

Rainfall and wind hazards to portions of the Texas coast the National weather service says in its advisory

Devastating and life threatening flooding is expected across the middle and upper Texas coast

The center of the Storm is currently on track to make landfall just north of Corpus Christi

But bands of rain will extend outward for miles

Harvey was upgraded to a category 2 hurricane Thursday night

and it is widely expected to be upgraded again by land fault of a Category 3 with wind speeds between

111 and

129 miles per hour

According to Noaa in a Category 3 storm

Devastating damage will occur well build framed homes may incur may damage or removal of roof decking and gable ends

Many Trees will be snapped or uprooted blocking numerous roads

Electricity and water will be unavailable for several days two weeks after the storm passes

Warm air can hold more water than cool air and the main concern for Harvey is the possibility for massive flooding?

Once Harvey hits land it is expected to stay in place for up to three days potentially

dropping up to 35 inches of rain in some locations that

Will be especially problematic if the storm turns north and hits Houston directly

Houston is the Country's fourth largest city by population and one of the country's largest by area

Much of that area is paved Houston reportedly has 30 parking spaces per resident

since the City's last major storm in

2001 even more of the City has been developed

Cities are uniquely vulnerable to storm surge and flooding because water has nowhere to go

Superstorm Sandy which swamped New York City and surrounding areas in

2014 had been downgraded to a category 2 storm when it hit the east coast

But it brought a massive storm surge in New York alone at least 53 people died

Economic costs were Roughly 19 billion dollars trading was suspended for two days and thousands of homes were destroyed

App República

Texas treatment project from Last March Detailed Houston's vulnerability to a major storm

The title of the project is held in high water and it chronicles

What could happen a major hurricane year could bring economic and ecological?

disaster they wrote including flood damage destruction of Entire Low-lying neighborhoods

Devastation to Galveston and a massive disruption of our country's oil and shipping industries

Such a storm would devastate the Houston ship channel shattering one of the world's busiest shipping lanes

Flanked by ten major refineries including the Nation's largest and dozens of chemical manufacturing plants the ship channel is a crucial

Transportation route for Crude oil and other key products such as plastics and pesticides

A shutdown could lead to a spike in Gasoline prices and many

consumer goods everything from car tires to cellphone parts to prescription pills as

Texans flee for higher ground the oil and gas infrastructure that lines the state's coast will remain in the heart of the storm

There is a bitter irony to the idea that a storm

Strengthened by human caused climate change carries the Potential to Destroy the very oily

infrastructure that has contributed so much warming to our world as

Propublica wrote last year scientists tell us that it is simply a matter of when and not if a monster storm is coming for Houston

Given this reality this project examines why so few steps have been taken to safeguard this valuable and vulnerable region?

More than a year later. It seems. We're moving away from preparation

President Donald Trump recently reversed flood protection rules for Federal building projects

Allowing more development with taxpayer dollars to be put at risk

Instead of action we are left with thoughts and prayers

Market Leader | Real Estate IDX Website | Price | Reviews - Duration: 9:51.

Good afternoon/ Good evening my name is Robert Newman I am a real estate online

marketing expert located in California. Tonight what we are talking, today/

tonight whatever time it is. What we're talking about is Market Leader. this

video is one in a series of videos where I'm talking about providers that make

real estate websites. This provider makes a real estate website that is typically

classified as a low-end IDX site. What do I mean by that, that means that the site

is usually not that fancy and what you're going to do, is you're going to

put in a search it's just Seattle. Let's just do this. okay, and we're gonna get

search results that's really mostly what this site is good for. Right, you'd

have to really work hard to see some extra value out of this website. In other

words what do I mean by that? Convert leads, usually these very low end very

low costs IDX systems don't generate you much leads and they certainly don't do

it without a lot of extra effort. So let's talk about lead generation for a

second as it relates to Market Leader. Market Leader has a separate lead

generation program that has nothing to do with your website. What they will do

is they will provide leads for you at twenty to thirty dollars a lead and

these leads will. So here's the product real estate leads and what they'll

do is they'll just give you a handful of these. Now a quick addendum to these

leads. I don't have any customers that I know of that are using this service. I can

tell you from experience that a, what's called a direct advertising lead. That's

a lead that's generated off a search engine. So we do a search and you see

these down here. These are ads, so that's where our leads are coming from. So I'm just

clicking on an ad then they're signing up with the search platform or whatever

mechanism Market Leader is using to capture lead and that can't hand it off

to you. Direct advertising leads as opposed to

informational leads. Like these are information released long articles that

really talk about the search query. okay, a lot of information so these kinds of

leads tend to be much better and the numbers work something like this 1 in

15 or 1 in 30. Somewhere between 15 and 30 of these types of leads to get a

close. So my advice to anybody thinking of using Market Leader's advertising

program have three to six hundred dollars that you can take a match to and

set it on fire. If you have that you should go ahead and try Market Leader

there's a lot of other sources where you can spend money they're all equally as

risky at that low of an amount. I know it probably sounds like a lot but

honestly direct advertising requires a healthy budget. Any kind of real estate

advertising really does. If you really want to make sure that you're gonna get

what's called a cyclical return. In other words get yourself into a process or a

loop where you can keep investing money and keep seeing results and thus justify

the advertising in the first place. Most of the time I don't recommend that any

realtor try direct advertising without having a minimum of fifteen hundred

dollars to spend, minimum and if you don't have that you should be looking at

other mechanisms to generate leads. Alright, so another thing that I do when

I'm doing a reviews on providers that make real estate websites is I'm going

ahead and I'm looking at them from an SEO perspective. This is Market Leader,

they've done pretty well. They've been in business for damn near 20 years, they

should be doing well at some point or another somebody with some SEO

experience actually got a hold of their website. For the amount of years that

they've been in business and for their marketing position they have sold, Market

Leader has sold for more money than any other real estate software company has

ever sold for. It was sold in, was acquired by Zillow in 2013 for a hundred

and seventy million dollars. Resold to Constellation Software for 23 million.

Constellation Software has a division called Perseus and Perseus owns Z57

and Zurple, So you're talking about the same group of companies. Let's talk about

that for a second so on top of a not very inspiring website. All the companies

that are owned by this group of companies doesn't have a very inspiring

reputation. I know of three companies and all of them have three and four stars

and typically speaking with all three of these companies you can use whatever

mechanism that you want to sell their services. They really don't seem to give

a crap, to be honest. You can go on it. Though I don't recommend that you take my

word for it. If you're. for what it. You should not be researching Market Leader

unless you have a mentor or somebody that is directly referred you to them

and says that they will show you how to make money. There are other solutions,

other types of real estate websites of the same, in the same category same

pricing that have a hundred percent better features which is probably why

Market Leader is losing both market share and value over time. One thing that

Market Leader does have however and one of the reasons it made it onto my top

twenty list is it does have a lot of customers. The fact that it's been around

for so long. I've shown this a few different ways but most web

manufacturers or website providers they have signatures on the sites that

they've produced this one is powered by Market Leader. So Market Leader is

essentially saying they've got a CRM and other tools. I haven't seen them, I have

seen their tutorials for these tools and they're all very bad I'm going to cover

that in a second. So I don't have a great deal of faith that with the tutorials

being bad that the tools themselves are very good nor do I have very much input

from customers saying they're very good and I did read about 50 of these, of the

hundred or so reviews online and they weren't very good either so I'm taking a

large set of experience but I am a big believer in you should collect your

own data I'm just trying to point you in the right direction but Market Leader is

outclassed in every way. The only thing they've got that other people don't have

is a lot of customers they have close to probably 13 to 15 thousand real

estate websites online. One of the few. That makes them one of the bigger

companies of this type. Agent Image is larger and Placester is much larger

with a few hundred thousand customers and Placester by the way would be

one of the places I'd take a serious look at because for $80 or $90 a month

Placester will make a much better website for this. One that is unlocked for leads

and give you a really good experience with a wordpress platform as opposed to

this customized platform that market leader has used and most of the tools I

don't think work that well anymore. Let's get into that for a second market leader

does have a YouTube channel that talks and supposedly gives you training. So I

went through it I watched five of the 12 available videos. They're so bad I can't

even actually get through the rest of them. So this is one of the their tips.

They're telling you to be on your laptop at open houses promote their monthly

e-newsletter and use flyers at events. Okay,

if your a real estate agent and you don't understand that you need to have a flyer

at an open house, please find another career. Use postcards to build businesses,

how? how? Mailing to the, are we using Geographic farming? Like what? Like link

or code your business cards. I just, this stuff is antiquated in addition

right before this they're saying you should be on your laptop linking

into Facebook groups some of the Flyers and that's not that that's such a bad

strategy it's just that these days any savvy

online marketer. Like the marketers that are going to give you really

good advice are going to tell you to hire a virtual assistant to do all this

repetitive digital promotion and send traffic to your site that way. You can

get a really good digital assistant for three to five dollars an hour in the

Philippines that speaks perfect English that will do this all day long for you.

You'll get hundreds or thousands of visits and you'll spend a total of

thirty dollars assuming that this is the method that you wanted to go. So they're

ridiculously out of date and I don't yeah, I can't anyway

sorry, I can't get to it. So ultimately my my total advice on this is be be wary if

there's a reason that you're going with market leader maybe you've heard from

your mentors mentor or something like oh I used to make good money or I do make

good money. There are certain real estate professionals that have been using Market

Leader for close to 20 years. If they're gonna say I make great money doing this

that isn't good for you. You need them to show you specifically what tools they're

using and how they're using them before I would invest a single penny. That's

what I would be before I'd invest one single dime into market leader. Alright, I

hope this was helpful thanks for tuning in again my name is Robert Newman and I

am the founder of inbound real estate marketing or inbound REM. See you on the

next video.
