However, we must first identify
what form of reasoning process that customer is pursuing because there are two distinct types there's exploratory reasoning and
Confirmatory reasoning the customer may tell you that they're exploring their options
But the overwhelming probability is that they're confirming because for most people
Appearing right is more important than being right and truth play second fiddle to reputation
But but but the buyers I deal with what they're accountable to their internal stakeholders. I hear you say
Well the really interesting thing about
Accountability is that an only increases exploratory thought when all of the following three conditions apply
one
Decision makers learn before forming any opinion that they will be held accountable to stakeholders
Two - the stakeholders views are unknown to the Decision Makers and
Three - the Decision makers believe that the stakeholders are well informed and are
Interested in accuracy, and when any one of these three conditions is missing
accountability pressure
increases confirmatory thought
Because very simply people try harder to appear right than to be right so here are two key questions
You must ask yourself before responding to an RFP is the RFP process and not just the document
But the entire review process designed to confirm you as winner
If not
Then do the above three conditions apply if not
Qualify out and ask yourself where you're out sold at least that way you get a valuable lesson from your experience
