In this video, I'm going to explain why I have started the Half Marathon Training VLOG

and I'm also going to give you a really important training tip.

What I'm looking to add to my channel is a series on how to train for a half marathon.

So, definitely subscribe and like this video.

This is really for any beginners who really don't know where to start or maybe you've

only run a handful of 5Ks, 10Ks, so you're not a total beginner but you're not quite

to that level of intermediate, this would be for you.

If you had loving and supportive parents, they probably told you that you can do anything

you set your mind to.

That's garbage.

You can't.

You cannot, I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you.

Fortunately, my parents never told me that so I didn't have to be let down when reality

smacked me in the face.

I have never been a fast runner.

I'm just decent.

And that doesn't mean that I haven't worked hard to try to improve my times but I'm just

not that fast.

I don't naturally have that talent.

And that's what I was referring by your parents saying that you can do anything or be anyone.

Whatever.

That is such a load of crap.

Either you have the talent or you don't.

Can you improve?

Yes, but just because you work hard and improve that doesn't mean you're going to become a

professional athlete or fast.

Just wanted to get that out of the way.

You know I definitely don't ever want to discourage anyone from running.

I love running so much.

I do my best thinking, creative thinking, when I'm out for a run.

It is the best feeling in the world to complete a training series and then to finish a long

distance race.

For me, it's one of the best feelings in the world.

I don't know about other people.

But I am into it.

I am so down with that.

Accept where you are.

Accept your physical and mental limitations.

And let's work from there.

So, my plan is to upload a video update at least one a week, hopefully, twice a week.

Every time I upload a video I will give you the workouts that covers the days that I won't

be uploading videos, if that makes sense.

So, essentially, you can follow along with my updates and train with me.

And you're more than welcome to comment and ask me questions.

I'm not a professional, never have been, never will be, but I have decades of experience.

I've had just about every running injury that you can have and once I learned how to really

train properly, I have successfully avoided any major injury.

Knock on wood, Jesus Christ, I probably just set myself up for like a blown ACL or something.

So, let me give you a breakdown of how your running schedule should go.

You should have two steady state runs, one speed workout, and one long run during your

week, at least.

You don't really need to do a warm ups before the steady state runs but it's a very good

idea to do them before your speed workouts.

It's so easy to pull a muscle sprinting on a track, thinking you're in high school still,

thinking you got the body of a sixteen year old, you don't.

So, you gotta be careful or you're going to really injury yourself.

I'm giving myself five months to get in shape for this half marathon.

I ran a half marathon at the beginning of this year and I ran it in two hours and ten

minutes, give or take a few minutes.

I'll post up the time, I'll have to look it up, I'm not sure exactly what it was.

A few years ago, I did the same race and ran it in, somewhere around two hours and five

minutes.

Again, I'll look that up and post it up, the correct number.

So, what I'm shooting for is to run the half marathon in just under two hours.

If I run it in one hour, fifty-nine minutes, fifty-nine seconds, that'll be fine with me.

And I know that that's not very fast and I'm ok with that.

Like I said before, I'm never gonna be a six-minute miler for, you know, a 10K or something.

That's just never going to happen for me.

So, the first tip is: hydration.

Staying hydrated is super important.

You know, when I hear someone say, "Well, I just don't like water."

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard in my life.

What are you doing?

What are you doing?

How do you live?

Come on.

You have to drink water.

It is the oil to your engine.

Give me a break.

Just drink it.

It doesn't taste like anything.

Just drink it.

It's not hard.

You need to start your hydration at least the day before you run, not the morning of.

A couple of sips or "oh, I drank a whole glass of water before I went to run in 100 degree

heat."

That's not gonna help you.

You need to hydrate the day before if not two days before.

The minimum amount of water you need for basic body function like for your organs, is sixty-four

ounces.

So, think about that.

That's the 8 eight ounce glasses of water that you've heard your entire life that you

need to have.

If you live in a hot climate, like I do...and you're doing something that requires a lot

of physical exertion you need more water on top of that.

When I'm training I aim for at least a hundred ounces of water a day.

And it makes such a huge difference in your breathing, your muscles cramping or not cramping.

It makes a huge difference.

Hydration, hydration, hydration.

Drink water.

It tastes like nothing.

Drink water.

It's not that hard.

Stop being childish.

Just drink the water.

Just drink the water.

Alright, I just got to the trail.

I waited way too long to leave this morning.

I'm not a morning person.

I'm trying to change it...kinda.

It's about 10:45, the temperature outside says 89 but it says it feels like 98.

Great.

Alright everybody, I just finished running 3.1 miles and I did it in 30 minutes, 51 seconds, which

is not fast.

I'm really just trying to log the miles.

As you can see, I am sweaty.

It was a good run though.

I went nice and easy, steady state.

Feels good!

So, today was the first day of the half marathon training for me.

And it was a steady state run.

So, that means you're just trying to maintain the same pace throughout the duration of your

run.

Tomorrow, I will do another steady state run at the gym.

Hopefully, I can do three miles on the treadmill.

It's so difficult for me to run on the treadmill, I just can't handle it.

The most I've ever done is six miles and I was sooo bored.

So, my long run this weekend will be five miles.

Normally, it wouldn't be back to back to back like this.

I would have a day of rest in-between but I just started on a weird day, today.

The schedule will change going forward and I will have more rest days in there.

Even though I want you guys to train along with me, I don't know what your individual

needs are going to be or your limitations so I'm just going to tell you what I'm doing

and you can modify it around that, do a little less or a little more, depending on how you

feel.

Make sure that you listen to your body.

It's very important that you don't injury yourself.

You want to complete this whole five months of training and you don't want to injury yourself

you know, three weeks before, then it's like, totally wasted.

Total waste of time.

So, follow along with me and hopefully, we can run this half marathon together.

And as I'm driving down here, a semi-truck was swerving all over the road.

Now what is "Nothing but wheels"?

It's a practice

Where you have your life organized in such a way..

that you can have a garage where..

where nothing but wheels are touching the floor.

How cool would that be to not have all this junk in the garage?

So... Right now...

At one point I had the whole garage.. (motioning) nothing but wheels.

but we're in the middle of a remodeling project..

we've got like a bunch of debris here.

We just did a rafting trip..

We've got a bunch of stuff on the ground..

It's kind of chaos.

but the idea is to have your life organized..

So that everything has its place..

and things that you don't really need, you just get rid of.

because too much stuff is BONDAGE!!

It's just prison.

to be enslaved by all your possessions that are just burring you alive.

Let's break out of bondage,

and eliminate the clutter in your life.

and do "Nothing but Wheels".

and it will be so peaceful.

and so liberating.

to be able to just have nothing but wheels touching the floor.

but things that don't have wheels..

are up out of the way and stored where they need to be.

Her name is Alla, she was from Moscow. Her husband is a famous Pianist Sasha Ardakov.

He started to give me a Piano lessons. But I was 10 yo & completely unable to learn. So he called his Wife to try some Lesson with me.

It was she who recognized my Vocal capacity. I think - I was a Lucky one to meet her She was very Severe, but also Talented Teacher.

After only 6 months of our Lessons I was invited to sing @ "Royal Opera" in London. All this thanks to incredible Discipline & Hardness.

It was autumn. Silent & cloudless evening. Someone was dancing, someone were drinking Beer.

There were not Fights or Scandals. No one was trying to bother me. I felt happy - I could make smile so many people!
