Ishi Woney & Corinna Slusser: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com - Duration: 11:39.

Ishi Woney & Corinna Slusser: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

Ishi Woney is accused of pimping out missing Pennsylvania woman Corinna Slusser.

Woney, 23, was charged in a Manhattan federal court on November 1 with sexually exploiting two women.

One of those women is 20-year-old Corinna Slusser.

Slusser has been missing since September 2017.

U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S.

Berman said, "Woney engaged in a vile form of exploitation, using force and other coercion to compel young women to engage in paid sex for his enrichment.".

The documents in the case say that Woney is accused of pimping out two women in the Bronx, using paid for online ads that featured Slusser and another victim, who has not been identified.

Slusser arrived in New York City during the summer of 2017.

She was last seen at the Haven Motel on Woodhaven Boulevard in Rego Park, Queens, on September 20, 2017.

A month earlier, in August 2017, Slusser had filed a police report saying that her "pimp" had beaten her up in Harlem.

Slusser received an order of protection against her pimp in the case.

The man named in that order of protection was not Ishi Woney but was Yhovanny Peguero.

That order was mailed to Slusser's mother's home.

When Slusser's mother contacted the NYPD about the order, Slusser downplayed the incident.

Between August and September, Woney and Slusser's relationship had continued despite the order of protection.

This upset the other victim in the case.

That's when, the documents say, Slusser moved from an apartment in the Bronx that she shared with Woney and the other victim, to the motel in Rego Park.

Authorities say that between September 10 and September 20, Woney and Slusser exchanged 803 text messages.

Slusser remains a missing person.

If you have any information about her whereabouts, please call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or go to tips.fbi.gov.

Alternatively, contact Det.

Georgia Lessey of the NYPD at 718-363-7762.

Here's what you need to know:.

Slusser's Mother Says She Hopes Ishi Woney's Arrest 'Leads to Other Things'.

   .

Slusser's mother, Sabina Tuorto, told the New York Post, "I hope this [arrest] leads to other things.

I want my daughter found." Slusser was reported missing in Bloomsberg, Pennsylvania, on September 12, 2017, when she did not attend her grandfather's funeral in Florida.

NBC News reported in November 2017 that Slusser told her mother she couldn't travel for the funeral because she lost her I.D.

and social security card.

Slusser did say that she would return home to Pennsylvania, but she never did.

An NYPD source told the New York Daily News in November 2017, "(Detectives) believe that she is out of New York State.

There is no indication she is subject to foul play." The same article said that "cops suspect Corinna Slusser is still alive." The Daily News also reports that Slusser left her home in Pennsylvania to be with her pimp who she refers to as "Daddy.".

Less Than a Year Before Her Disappearance, Slusser Had Wanted to Move to Massachusetts, Leading to a Fight With Her Mother.

NBC News reported in November 2017 that in 2016, Slusser had fought with her mother regularly and wanted to move to Massachusetts as a result.

Slusser wanted to move in with her uncle's ex-wife, Julie Anne Becker-Calfa.

Becker-Calfa told the network that Slusser had spent every summer with her in Massachusetts.

The move was set to happen until Becker-Calfa said she found out her niece had "gotten up to no good during the summer, without me knowing it." At that point, Slusser went to live instead with friends in Pennsylvania.

     .

Becker-Calfa talked about the circumstances of Slusser's move to New York.

Slusser apparently told her mother that a friend had offered a place to stay in the city.

Becker-Calfa told NBC News that she left all of her belongings beside her I.D.

and cellphone behind when she moved.

Becker-Calfa said, "From that point on – for the next month or so – she was in New York, but she was in contact with her mom and friends almost every day.

She seemed to be doing fine." Eventually, Becker-Calfa said, she believes Slusser was lured into prostituion after living a party-lifestyle in New York for a time.

The family now believes that Slusser is stuck in a sex trafficking ring.

Woney Could Face Life in Prison.

The penalty for Woney if he is found guilty, could be anywhere between five years to life and prison.

Woney is accused of the use of an interstate facility to promote, manage, and carry on prostitution, sex trafficking by means of force, threats, fraud and coercion, and with violating the Mann Act.

Woney is also accused of transporting the other victim in the case across state lines for the purposes of prostitution.

The FBI's Assistant-Director, William F.

Sweeny Jr., said in announcing Woney's arrest, "Human trafficking is a top priority for the FBI, and, as today's charges demonstrate, we will continue to aggressively pursue justice for the victims of these heinous crimes.".

The documents say that Woney was arrested first in November 2017 when NYPD cops posed as johns at a motel in New Jersey.

Woney and the other victim in the case were questioned about Slusser's disappearance.

Woney was arrested again in February this year when officers say cops were called to a Jersey City motel after Woney was accused of beating up the other victim.

Woney also charged with simple drug possession.

The victim later refused to press charges in the case.

Another sting was set up by the NYPD in October 2018.

Cops arranged to meet the female victim in a motel in the Bronx for sex in exchange for $200.

After that arrest, the victim told cops about Woney's role as a pimp, the documents say.

Slusser's Most Recent Instagram Post Showed a Man Smoking a Marijuana Blunt on the Street.

   .

The above image is Slusser's most recent Instagram post.

The caption reads, "cyphin mid day mid road is always good for the soul." Cyphin' is a term used to describe passing a blunt of marijuana around in a circle.

In her bio section, Slusser promotes her work as an aspiring make-up artist as well as information about her Twitter page.

In her Twitter bio, Slusser writes, "doin whatever tf I want." Both the last Instagram post and her Twitter page give her location as the Bronx.

One of the final tweets on the Twitter page sees Slusser celebrating her first New York apartment, which is located on Grand Concourse in the Bronx.

According to her Facebook page, Slusser was studying as a Business Management student at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Slusser says on that page that she was living in Bloomsburg at the time of her disappearance and is originally from Lewisburg.

The FIFO Health Trap - What You Need To Know - Duration: 28:51.

What's up guys, hope you guys are doing super well. Hope you guys have had a fantastic week.

so far. If you guys are listening to this on the podcast welcome. Or if you're on now,

or you're watching this on video, welcome as well if you guys are if you've heard

my voice before we know who I am

and what I'm about. Welcome back. If this is your first experience

with me, my name is

Cam Wild. Welcome to the show this podcast, this is the first episode of The FIFO fit

podcast,

there's probably going to be many different names and iterations on I can

always be a little bit indecisive on this. But this was the name that we came up with

in the five fitness lifestyle group, which I'll be

telling you guys more about if you don't know what that is.

But yeah, guys, this podcast, I've set it up for, essentially to help guys who are living

the FIFO lifestyle to master their health and energy while while on FIFO. And I've been

working in the FIFO space for the last three years helping you know, dads and lads to not

just get great results with their health, fitness and their energy levels. But most

importantly, most importantly, of all, give them the tools that they need in order for

them to be consistent along that path, right. Because the last thing that we want to do

is kind of fall into that cycle where it's just these ups and downs and ups and downs,

but I health and fitness, we get started, we stop, we get started, restart. And then

you know, because we we failed so many times, we lose the motivation to even get started.

And we kind of just settle with, you know, shitty and poor quality health. So again,

if you're you're on the show you listening to this, you're watching this wherever you

may be consuming this content from once again, a huge welcome. I'm really excited to have

you guys here. And I'm really excited to jump into the the meat and nuts of this podcast.

And today, the podcast is really all about the fivefold and how it is an energy vacuum

or how it's an energy trap. I haven't really decided what I'm going to call the title of

this video and podcasts. But something along the lines of how five is an energy trap. And

I want to really kind of break apart What I mean by that and kind of really help you

guys to better understand this because of my time and with working with guys in the

five foot space. And maybe I should give you guys a little bit of a background of actually

how I got started in working in five. And before I really kind of

share with you some of the the biggest challenges that

that guy's face in the while working the FIFO lifestyle. And to give you guys a little bit

more of a background of who I am I my name is Cam Wild. I've been in the the health and

fitness industry for last 10 years. But I've been working professionally in the health

and fitness industry for the last eight, the last three of which I have been working specifically

with our guys in the FIFO space and was pretty interesting story and how I actually got started

working with with guys and FIFO I've always done online health and fitness coaching. But

about three years ago, I ran a quick like full week kind of program and I do you know,

I speak and consult with my clients over the phone and prospects over the phone and kind

of get a better understanding of their lifestyle and let them know whether or not I'm the right

person or the best person to serve them, you know, moving forward with their health and

fitness and one particular guy I can remember his name Adam had a conversation with him

and and was really intrigued as to the lifestyle that he would just you know that he described

to me that he was living he would spend you know, two weeks on this you know rig for this

floating rig off the west coast of Australia and he'd spend two weeks there and then he

jumped on a helicopter and come back home to Perth and spend another and then two weeks

you know have two weeks holiday and then he go back on side and you know, this is how

we repeat it. Like literally, you know, work out the year play half the year as everyone

says, and I couldn't really wrap my head around it when I was first speaking to them on the

phone. I didn't really fully understand the exact lifestyle and what exactly was going

on but but you know what i did come to understand was I remember the conversation him saying

hey, when you write my programs can you make sure that you are key make

sure that we

pay close attention to you know, some of the the barbell work that will that will be doing

because I can't have too much white loaded on the barbell because the the rig rock side

to side and you know I don't want white the full often cause an injury and things like

that. So, you know, that was really blowing my mind. But what was really interesting is

even though I understood that he he had a quite a challenging lifestyle, like different

environments, kind of, you know, two weeks on two weeks off day shift night shift that,

you know, that was something that was really interesting, I was really interested about

as well he ended up Despite all these challenges. He actually ended up winning the the four

week challenge and that really blew my mind isn't like, you know, what the hell you know,

this guy's has a really

challenging lifestyle yet, you know,

and I'm working with all these other guys who are working nine to five lifestyles and

you know, all this kind of blah, blah, blah. And

yet he

you know, he had the most challenging lifestyle yet he was the one who succeeded, he got the

best results. And I was like, Hey, you know, this is, this is awesome. This guy was awesome.

You know, the, the fact that he was able to overcome these challenges and be successful,

I went to work with more people like this. And I started looking more into what FIFO

was. And

I realized that

holy shit, you know, the, this is like, there are hundreds and hundreds of thousands of

people,

hard working dudes, and, and women, you know,

situated throughout the center, and scattered around scattered about Australia who live

this kind of lifestyle, you know, they work seriously long hours, 12, 13, 15 hour days,

typically, really physical work in brutal environments, like really hot sun, a hot,

hot summers, you know, underground work on working with the most massive and

incredible machinery, you know, known

to man, like, literally the pinnacle of engineering and technology with just which something that

fascinates me as well, like, just massive machinery, and then they work these challenging

shifts, like day shift, Night Shift, you know, it's a constant operation, and then they come

home and, and, you know, a lot of the guys that I was working with their, when I first

started working with, I've always worked with just guys just men, because I don't really

feel like I'm an expert when it comes to helping out females and women.

But yeah, you know, working with just guys, it was really interesting, I started to notice

between my clients that I'd have guys that would work on site, you know, work for two

weeks, on three weeks, or four weeks on, you know, seven, seven, whatever their roster

would be, and they'd come home and they'd be able to chill and relax. But then it also

noticed that there are clients who would go on site, they do the same kind of shifts and

swings and then come back home and they'd have to manage your family, right. So there

was no rest for these guys. And so that's where I kind of differentiated the challenges

between obviously working with, you know, what I call the lads on the lads on FIFO,

and then the dads on FIFO, right, because there's more of a challenge there, there's

more responsibility, especially with the dads it's, it's Go, go, go, go, go. And with the

guys, you know, when they come back home that you know, smoking a joint or you know, having

a few too many beers, although the dads to you know, do those things as well, you know,

they have a lot less responsibility. And so the, you know, the father lifestyle, the dad

the FIFO, dad, lifestyle is a little bit more Go, go, go, go go. So, I started to notice

that that discrepancy. And actually over the last 18 months, I've dedicated my work to

just mastering and working with FIFO dad's to really, you know, help them get on top

of that, and not just get back on track with the health and fitness But again, it's like,

on a touchstone of the stock for them to develop a system for them to be consistent with it

long after, you know, the work that we've done together. And

yeah, that's really how I found my way into the industry. And, you know,

had the conversations that I've had and kind of wiggled my right way around and learnt

about really come to learn about the challenges that that you guys face on the fivefold lifestyle.

There's really no other lifestyle that I've ever heard of, that's come anywhere close

to the challenges that you know, that this particular lifestyle brings. And this isn't

a sob story, anything like this, this is just a real understanding that the end of the day

you guys choose to live this, this lifestyle This is a choice

but at the end of the day, the challenges are real. And it's important not to minimize

tho those. And that's why I'm so fascinated about working with, with you guys and guys

in the the FIFO space because, you know, the difference between I've worked with hundreds

and over 300 guys in the FIFO space of the last couple of years. And you know, that the

difference between the guys who are successful the ones who actually achieve their results

with the health and fitness and stay consistent with that, and the ones who the worst

time to have an alignment

and the ones who are the ones who are successful

on the ones who are not the ones who

are who I'm very clear on why it is so important for them to make the change, right. Because

at the end of the day, you know, I just went went ahead and listed a whole heap of challenges

that, you know, you guys face as part of the FIFO lifestyle. And these are real, but at

the end of the day, there are people out there in the exact same position as you and most

cases there are a lot of people who are more challenging situations like I've worked with,

you know, single dads, lots of single dads, which is an unfortunate reality of the FIFO

lifestyle, you know,

like, hugely overweight people are hugely overweight man, like fat dudes, a lot of you

and you guys, you don't need to hear it from me, that is the reality of FIFO, there is

a is a hugely unhealthy culture and industry. So there was a, you know, it's a, there are

a lot of challenges that come with that as well. But, you know,

dads and some of the most challenging of situations and lads as well and some of the most challenging

of situations who are still making it happen, who are still prioritizing their health and

fitness and making it happen Despite all these other excuses that everyone else in the industry

are using. So you know, the big difference between the ones who are successful and ones

one not are the ones who are very very clear on what it is that they want and why it is

that they want that

and that is a huge

distinction that because a lot of I have so many conversations guys like I've literally

been over the last eight years I just doing online consulting work. But over the last

three years I've had well into the thousands of hours of conversations with guys about

you know who you know, everyone talks about, you know what they want out of their health

and fitness everyone talks about wanting to lose the white and have the energy and run

around with their kids and kick the footy and

and have the energy to you know, to come back and and you know, spend some quality time

with them, you know the missus and their family, which is what you guys are

working away for. Right. This is the the the thing that I've come to really understand

about especially the dads working five four is how

family centric you guys are how driven you guys are to provide

for your family. And that's something that I admire so much about you guys. Because like

it is, it's f**king brutal. The work that the work that you guys can go through was

f**king brutal, this is obviously not a family friendly podcast is going to be plenty of

swearing on this, which I know that you guys are all about.

But the

but I think a lot of people take that far too seriously.

And

I maybe that's the wrong way of putting out maybe not far too seriously. But you really

just let everything go.

Let everything loose, chill out, do absolutely nothing. And you know, kind of let yourself

why off the hook, do all the things that you've been wanting to do for the last two weeks.

And I'm for a lot of you guys, when it comes to unwinding, especially the culture in Australia,

the culture on fire phone particular it's, you know, getting smashed

having a having a few too many beers, you know, going out and eating food ordering in

just not really just eating comfort food. Because you're stressed

out, you're

tired, the seafood high, whatever is available to you. You're putting in your mouth you're

eating and and then you kind of, then you kind of just

spiral out of control. And then you get back onto the site. And it starts all over again.

And it's just this kind of this consistency, right. And that's that is really well.

And that is really the biggest challenge when it comes to to find that this is it's just

energy vacuum that you even for people who have like,

even if you're in the past, you've done super well with your health and fitness, you've

gotten great results with your health and fitness, even in the past

these old strategies that may have worked for you once, right? Being able to train,

you know, 10 hours a day when you were younger. And, or, you know,

when you're playing footy or in the heydays, or whatever

the fuck it may be.

Number one,

the

well I think the most important thing is these old strategies just don't fly anymore, right?

Like, for the most part, a lot of people in the old days got

years ago, sorry, most people understand the concept of training, right. And the reason

that they were able to get fit in the past was because they just

didn't spend a lot of vote, you know, they just had a lot of volume of time to train,

right, they just had access our when you were

younger, you had

less responsibilities, he had a better metabolism, for sure, and more testosterone in your system.

So of course, you could get away with just training. But now

as life kind of goes on, you start to get a little bit older, you know, not only do

they old strategies not work, you just don't have that time anymore. But now you so now

you have to be more efficient with your training. But so you have less time you have to be more

efficient with your training now. But then now your body is kind of

I don't want to say slowing down because it's only slowing down because you guys are letting

it slow down. But it is you're not as hormonally proficient as you were when you were younger.

That's not to say that you can't improve that you absolutely can. But you are more disadvantage

now than you were when you were younger, not a not a good enough, not an excuse. But that

is a reality. So things this is where things really start to

catch up to you and the way to be successful on FIFO with your health and fitness is to

be efficient, you have to be highly efficient, you need to know exactly what you're doing.

When you go to the gym, you have to have a plan you need to show up, you need to know

exactly what you're doing step by step. Because you you know, not only do you have not had

the energy to think when you're there, you just don't have the time to be fucking around.

You need to go in, you need to do an effective and efficient session, you need to know exactly

what you're eating, you need to know exactly how to

plan and prepare yourself

asleep, you know exactly need to know exactly how to transition between, you know, the different

environments the day shift the night shift the back at home, whatever it may be, you

need to have a different strategy for each of those environments as well. And then when

you're back. And then when you're back home as well. You need to have a strategy for that

too, so that you're able to master that. And because when you think of it, when you're

on side day, shift the notch if you're just looking off the shelf self, right. But when

you're back at home, now you've got a you've got to kind of integrate with family life.

And maybe you have to

eat different things, you have to fall into a different kind of routine. When it comes

to eating right, maybe inside, you're eating formulas are back at home, you're eating three

or whatever it may be right there are just different environments that you need to learn

to master so that you can always stay ahead of the game. Because once you're on top of

this, and once your heads above water this and and you know you're losing the body fat,

you're getting more energy, you're building the muscle, you know,

this goes so much further than then just your health and fitness guys, this goes to the

plan. This goes so much further than spending more quality time doing things that you love

with the people who again, who are most important to you and all that are super important. But

it just gives you It gives you more options. And I think that's the most important thing.

It gives you more options. A lot of people love the five for life. So yes, love it. And

that's awesome. I think it's awesome, right? But there are a lot of you who don't love

it, right? It's a means to an end. You know, it's something that you got started with,

because you wanted to pay off the debt or you wanted to try something new or whatever,

you know, whatever the fucking reason was, but now you don't enjoy it. And it's so like

looking after yourself and giving yourself the the energy and the ability to kind of

take a step back and look back and kind of get your head above water. It gives you options.

It allows you to start scoping out other opportunities. Maybe you want to study in your spare time.

And and you know, take an apprenticeship and time off right or maybe want to

transition somewhere else. Right? Oh, it start applying for more jobs or whatever it may

be right it just gives you more options. More energy gives you more options to do the things

that are important to you. And that's why I'm so passionate about this. I'm passionate

about health and fitness. Everything I do in my life revolves around health and fitness.

But I'm also passionate about solving problems. I love challenges just as much as you guys

do. Obviously living five for a lot of challenges. But I also was very fortunate to be brought

up in

a very family centric

home I have a great relationship with both my mom and my dad and my my two brothers and

older brother and younger brother and again when I communicate with you guys in Africa

for those of you who work in the industry

you know 99% if not 100% of you are family centric you you're doing this for your family

just as just and I should say my father's in construction he's a carpenter has been

a carpender his whole life and while he hasn't done FIFO he has always

he's worked his ass off long fucking days libraries work I work with him when I was

younger as well and you know did tried tried to work when I was younger basically a Brikky

and

i

i get i get a lot of those vibes from you guys.

I I I can relate to that I can relate to how and why it's so your families are so important

to you. Because mine is to me and I want to be able to help I want to be able to contribute.

And my way of doing this is by giving helping you guys out with your health and fitness

giving you guys the tools that you need to stay on top of this to master

this and kick some big goals into the future. And again, give you guys the options that

you want. But most importantly for you to spend more quality time doing the things that

you love with those who are most important to you. So that's where I'm going to end today's

episode guys. I've got plenty more stuff coming along the way if you guys want to learn more

If you are anything like me,

you don't necessarily want to talk about politics.

You're kind of sick of politics.

You're probably sick of the primaries.

And you're thinking the last thing I want to do

is talk about politics.

But we do not live in some kind of utopia

where we can kind of check out when it comes to politics.

We live in this world.

And what does Jesus say about living in this world?

Well, let's see what Jesus says.

On one time,

he's on a hill and he's preaching and we call it the Sermon on the Mount.

This is in Matthew, chapter 5 and this is what he says:

So, there's a couple things that Jesus is saying when he says that

you are salt and light in this world.

Number one, that you are valuable.

You can imagine at that time we got our word "salary" from "salt"

because it was so valuable at preserving things.

And he says "You are light of the world"

and you can imagine in a world where we do not have

harnessable electricity what light meant.

So you are valuable as a believer.

But what else is Jesus saying?

Jesus is saying this:

You are also

an influencer in this world.

You are salt in this dying and decaying world.

And if you're not going to do something about it, who is?

You're light in this world.

If you're not going to shine with the light of Christ

and if you're not going to proclaim

his mission and if you're not going to let people know about acceptance and love

and all the things that go with what Jesus says,

who is going to do that?

One of the ways that you do that,

dramatic pause,

is go out and vote.

Now, you might not like politics.

And it doesn't matter if you're an 18 year old at junior college

and this is your first election ever.

It doesn't matter if you're a 78 year old grandma and you've been in countless elections.

What matters is that you are salt

and light in this dark world.

And God says, "Go and be influencers."

Because you have value and you can do something about it.

Now, how you vote,

how we talk about politics,

that's what we're going to be talking about this week.

Let's pray.

Dear heavenly father,

A lot of us do not like politics.

In fact, we're sick of talking about politics.

But we want to know what you say in your word when it comes to living in this world.

We don't live away from the world.

We live in a world where we can actually do something.

We can be salt and light in this world.

And, just through our vote, and just through our advocation,

we can do something to stop

the decay in this world.

And we can shine bright with the light of Christ.

We ask that we do this every single day.

Amen.

I don't know if you know this and I don't want to break it to you.

But, Jesus is not a Republican.

He's not a Democrat and he's not a Libertarian.

But, wouldn't that be great?

Wouldn't it be great if we didn't even have to think about voting?

And we could just stand up like Joshua and say,

"As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."

And we check that box. You don't have worry about morality.

You don't have to worry about past histories.

You don't have to worry about lying and deceit and double-talk.

And you don't have to worry about stupid tweets.

How awesome would it be if we could just check a box?

But, you know what Jesus says

to Pontius Pilate,

Jesus isn't on the ballot.

Which means, voting's hard.

You have to look at all the issues and you have to ask yourself,

"What is the definition of marriage?"

You have to look and say,

"What does God say about helping the poor?"

As he says all the time in the Bible,

are we doing that as a group of people?

What does God say about end of life issues, like abortion?

And what does God say about euthanasia?

All these things you have to wrestle with and try and figure out the right answer.

And I wish it was as easy as just checking the same box

and shutting it down.

But as a believer,

voting is hard.

And God has called you to be salt and light in the world.

Jesus left his kingdom

to come to our kingdom.

Not to rule.

Jesus left that kingdom to pay for our sins.

And he gives us the peace of mind that we have somewhere to go

but until we're there,

we've got to work

and we have to vote

and we have to look for those people who are marginalized.

All of that rests on our shoulders

and God gives you the ability to do that.

Let's pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, it would be so easy

if we could just check a box and know that all the decisions were taken care of.

But, instead in this world, we've got to wrestle with morality.

We have to wrestle with lies.

We have to wrestle with trying to make the right decision.

Help us do that with a clear heart that looks at Your Word.

And help us do that

with the knowledge that knows that we stand forgiven with you.

And now with clear eyes, we can look at what the world says

and what is best for our neighbor

as we go out and be advocates in this world.

As we go out and vote.

We ask this in Jesus name, our Savior.

Not our king

in this world but our king in the world to come.

Amen.

As you get ready for the elections this year, I want you to know something.

Chances are, someone that you do not want to win is going to win.

And that matters, and let me tell you why.

So 1958, you can imagine, they did a Gallup survey and they asked this question:

So 1958, you can imagine, they did a Gallup survey and they asked this question: "Is it okay for your son or daughter to marry someone of a different race?"

"Is it okay for your son or daughter to marry someone of a different race?"

So, an interracial relationship.

Of the whole population 1958,

only 4% of people said it was okay.

Now, we've kind of grown as a nation.

And if you do the same survey today,

87% of people say,

"Hey, no big deal.

If my son-in-law is black and I'm white, that's no big deal."

Well, what about politics?

Does it matter

who your son or daughter-in-law, or future son and daughter-in-law would be

as a Democrat or Republican?

Well, it turns out, it does matter.

They did a survey in 1958

and they asked this question.

All things being equal,

does it matter?

Well, 18% said I prefer a Democrat.

10% said a Republican, which might sound like a lot.

However, what that means is this:

72% of the population does not care, in 1958.

Do you think the same thing would be true today?

They did a survey.

And when they did it this time they said

28% would prefer a Democrat,

27% Republican,

which means that for more than half of the population,

it matters if you son or daughter-in-law

is a Democrat or a Republican.

Which also means,

it's not like when I go shopping for a car

and I want gray or grayer.

It doesn't really matter.

To a lot of people,

someone is going to be voted into office that you very

much disagree with.

What is that like

to serve under people that you disagree with?

Well, I think we look to the Bible and I've got

a section in the book of Daniel.

And it's got a lot of Old Testament words so stick with me.

So, just to get you up to date.

They wrapped around the city

and they took the stuff from their temple

and started using it in a pagan temple

and then one more thing:

Did you ever hear of Daniel?

Well, Daniel is, in this time, they besieged his city.

They take the stuff from his temple and now instead of being royalty in his hometown,

he now has to serve under a man who obviously does not believe in the same God.

So, what do we learn from this?

I think we learn this:

Just like Daniel, we have to look out and understand that God is ultimately in control.

Just like Daniel,

we have to understand that there's people in our political party,

and just because they're in your party doesn't mean you have to agree with what they say.

Some things they do are going to be good

and some things are going to be detestable.

You don't have to defend that.

But, just like Daniel,

we can advocate for the poor and just like Daniel,

we can pray to a God.

We know that God is in control.

And we can pray that God works in the minds and hearts of our officials

and that God helps them make wise decisions

that are good for all people, not just themselves.

Why don't we pray just for that.

Heavenly Father, we know you are in control

and there's days that are frustrating because we serve under people that we don't agree with.

But we know that you're going to take care of all things and most often you took care

of our salvation through Christ so help that be a security that we have

as we advocate for those who are marginalized and that don't have a voice.

And be with our officials.

We might not agree with them, but help them look in wisdom

for the good of our nation and not just themselves.

We ask this in your name.

Amen.

I have this ceiling fan in my house

that is so disobedient.

I can hit the button to speed it up and slow it down.

It always listens,

but when I want the lights to dim,

I'm going to have a romantic evening

with my wife and I want the lights to dim.

I can hold it. Nothing happens.

I can morse code it. Nothing happens.

It just mocks me.

And then I'll put it in the basket.

And when I do that, the lights will shut off.

I don't know if you know this, but life is a lot easier when you can control outcomes.

I like that the car starts when I want it to.

I like that doors open when I turn the knob.

I like that my dog listens, usually, when I tell him to do something.

But, you know what the best part is?

Like, truly the best.

Is that every single one of my friends

believes exactly the way I do politically.

We can have a conversation and there's never a disagreement

because I can control what they're going to say and believe and think.

Now, if you eat something wrong and that doesn't disagree with you,

do you really think it's true that you can control your friends?

The answer is obviously no.

So, how do we handle this?

Like, what do you do in that situation when you can't do this?

Well, there's a couple things that we need to know.

The only thing that changes hearts

is prayer,

and when it comes to morality and what the Bible says,

prayer,

the Holy Spirit working through God's word

in an open dialogue.

How many of those things can you control?

You can pray.

And you can control yourself.

Whenever it comes to politics, I like to think about

David's psalm. It's Psalm 24 and I think of this one because

it puts me in a mind of humility that the

things that I have from God have come from God.

This is Psalm 24.

And what he is doing

is he's describing the one who gets to enter God's presence.

The one who has clean hands and a pure heart.

Of course, why do you get to enter God's presence?

Not because you're so awesome.

Not because you're so great.

It's only because Christ has died and given you that.

So, what is our takeaway on this?

It's simply this.

If you're going to change someone's mind,

you think that it's really going to work with email forwards?

Do you think it's really going to work with Facebook reposts?

Do you think it's going to work with flippant comments at cocktail parties?

Or,

do you think it's going to work with a humble heart,

with an open dialogue

and let the Holy Spirit work?

I'm going with prayer and the Holy Spirit.

Let's pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, there's some things in politics that really don't matter.

There are some things that really do matter and it's hard on our hearts.

And it's difficult. And we want to change people's minds

and we know that it's not going to work because it doesn't change our mind.

Help us to have a humble heart

that approaches each conversation as an opportunity.

An opportunity to let your truth shine

and do that in a humble way.

And we pray that the Holy Spirit works on hearts

so that people can understand what is best for

your perspective, not just ours.

We ask this in your name.

Amen.

I don't know if you know this, but the world is crazy.

There's pedophilia and pornography and moral scandals.

There's lies, there's deceit.

It doesn't seem like there's a Christian leader in sight.

There's wars. There's rumors of wars. There's murder.

You know what's even crazier?

That the Christians who lived 2000 years ago, the very first generation of Christians,

could have said the same thing as they ruled with the Romans.

Moral decay and all this corruption.

So, where does this put this?

Do you ever wonder, like,

"God if you are in control

"and you can make the nations do whatever you want,

"why do you let the people that are so far from you rule the nations?

"Why do you let this happen?"

Well, once in a while, God pulls back the curtain of prophesy.

And, we see that in the book of Daniel.

And he has this statue and it shows a couple things.

It shows that the Babylonians were going to be defeated by the Persians.

And then the Persians by the Greeks.

And then the Greeks by the Romans.

"But still God, what are You doing?"

Like why do you let them thrive?

Well, we see that God even works through those ways.

He lets Pharaoh

bend to his will to let his people go.

We see God, unbeknownst to Pilate,

crucify the Savior of the world.

And you think, Nero and Diocletian were thinking,

"Well, this is going to spread the Christianity faith"

as they persecuted them?

No.

But God's in control, so what does this mean?

I don't know what's going to happen next week.

I have no idea.

But, I do know this.

That God is absolutely in control.

And there's no man, there's no woman,

there's no political country

that is outside of God's influence.

But, you know what I do when I'm really feeling a little bit scared?

A little bit worried about where things are going?

I think of passages back from when I was a kid.

And this is from Isaiah, chapter 9 that tells us what kind of God we have.

This is Isaiah, chapter 9.

And it's a prophecy.

No matter who's in office now,

their rule is going to end.

But God's reign

lasts forever.

So, go be salt and light in the world.

Be an informed voter and advocate and look out for our country.

And take a stand

to let God's will permeate,

but also know that God took a stand on this earth

and he went to a cross

so that we don't have to worry about this earth

because we have a place to go.

Let's pray.

Heavenly Father, the world is crazy.

You lived in it as you came here.

You left Your kingdom to come here.

The world crucified you and rejected you.

We pray that we have a heart that knows you

and that we have a heart that recognizes that

we can't control the world

but you can.

And when we don't understand it, we pray that we just humbly accept your will

and understand that you're going to make things work

the way that you want them to work

so that your plan always happens for the people that love you.

We ask this in Your name.

Amen.
