~~~it's about the money, money, money
We need your money, money, money~~~
Today, let's talk about money.
The source of income for international Ph.D. students in the central of U.S.
Hi, everyone, I am Dr. K!
I know many students bought a lot of things during the sale season recently.
Obviously, they haven't stopped themselves through watching Dr. E's last video.
So, in this video, I am going to talk about how to make money.
We all know that you need a lot of money if you come to study in the U.S.
Let alone PhD,
which takes you 3-5 years for you to study and that's a big investment.
The good thing is most PhD programs have sponsorship, especially in the central U.S.
Why?
Who do you think will come to this desolate area if they don't have sponsorship???!
So, these sponsorship may come from:
The government, such as CSC, the Chinese Scholarship Council;
Or the American University, the school will give students fellowship if they are excellent enough;
Or your college and professor
they will give you assistantship and salary
and your professor becomes your boss.
You will start to work like a horse…happily.
If you got any of the sponsorship above, you can concentrate on your research without worrying about what to eat and wear
because you don't need to spend a lot of money on living expense in the central of U.S. when someone had covered your tuition fee already.
But, what if you couldn't get a sponsorship?
In fact, the PhD students in science and engineering programs are easier to get sponsorship than PhD in liberal arts programs.
Most PhD students in liberal arts programs need to self-pay their tuition fee at least during the first year of their study.
If the students came from a superior family, they don't need to worry about anything.
However, if they came from normal or poor family, they will live a hard life.
They need to save every penny and find ways to make money.
So, as a busy international PhD student in the central U.S.
how can I make some money?
First, let's talk about… the legal methods:
In the school, if you didn't get the fellowship
you still have chances to apply for various other scholarships
which give you hundreds to thousands dollars
different from school to school
You can search "scholarship" on your school official website and try to reach their requirements.
You will never be surprised if you don't strive for it.
If you get it, it will be something to write in your resume, even though you just get a little amount of money.
If your professor/advisor cannot give you assistantship
that means he/she does not have any graduate research assistantships (GRA) or graduate teaching assistantships (GTA) positions
You can always ask other professors.
You can also start with a partial assistantship.
There are partial assistantship positions open for students every year in the school offices.
Although the payment is low, it's stable.
You can make a lot of friends
build close relationship with professors
practice your oral English, and improve your work capacities.
It is a solid choice.
There are lots of part-time jobs on campus
depending on what you want to do
There are dorm manager, security, dining hall front desk staff
dish washer, library staff, auditorium staff,
short term school activity staff, etc.
If you go and look, you will find jobs are everywhere.
There is another way.
If you are a person who has strong research abilities and you have many academic achievement or research papers,
you can actively attend academic conferences.
There are awards and funds for academic conferences
and if you save that money, that will also be your earnings
I know, there are few high paying on-campus jobs.
It's almost always the minimum wage standard.
That's for sure. You cannot expect the school to give you a lot of money.
They pay you on time, that's good!
If that money is not enough for your studies, you have to consider an off-campus job.
The legal process needs your student curricular practical training (CPT) or optional practical training (OPT).
If you already graduated from school, you can use OPT; If you are still in school, you can use CPT.
The process of application is not very complicated and you will find the instructions on your school website.
But those jobs need to be related to your major.
Your advisor should give you permission for your CPT.
If you think those positions are for you, you can make full use of your winter or summer break!
But, if your advisor doesn't give your permission
you have few work opportunities in your area,
you earn fewer money off-campus than your on-campus job.
Not a problem! We have other ways!
First, We have the universal internet!
You can be an internet celebrity, a youtuber, etc.
You will be rich if you become famous,
but it's not easy to get famous.
You can teach online course or become a tutor.
You will earn money if you have stable source of students,
but it's not easy to find a stable source of students.
Or, you can do online surveys,
sale pictures, publish novels, buy Powerball, etc.
These methods will make you feel you are super cool.
But not surprisingly, you cannot make any money.
So, are you going to close this video angrily?
No no no. Don't do this, I am just telling the truth.
Because it really depends if you can make any money from those internet methods.
But, I am going to introduce a method which is going to make some money for sure
Take advantage from the bank system.
Many bank cards and credit cards have rewards for opening accounts,
referring friends,
and other shopping cashbacks.
These policies will save or earn you a lot of money if you make good use of them.
There are many tutorial articles and videos about this topic
so I will not explain much here.
Except for the methods above, literally, there are some ways of making money that are "not allowed",
such as
off-campus jobs without legal visa.
The main locations for those jobs could be Asian restaurants or shops.
In fact,
you have little possibilities to be complained about or caught if you study in the U.S. countryside.
Other ways might be private businesses.
such as overseas purchasing agents, driver,
handmade snacks seller,
errands,
second-hands dealers,
currency dealers, etc.
I don't need to list all types of jobs.
The work you are not willing to tell people about like those above may be put in this category.
Dr. K will not comment on those jobs.
If someone chooses to work and make money through these ways,
they have their own difficulties that others cannot understand and never experienced before.
If you brainstorm, you will find more ways of making money.
But what Dr. K suggests is,
students who can study for their PhD in the U.S. should be excellent people,
who paid a lot of efforts.
If you are not lacking money,
you'd better choose a legal and safe method.
Everything you do should be responsible for yourself and benefit your future development.
Don't be greedy for small gains! Don't except to be rich overnight!
Sometimes people pay a lot and get nothing, but no pains, no gains!
In addition, Dr. K suggests students to communicate more with your family when you are choosing the methods of making money,
as well as follow your heart and hold your principles close.
You will live your life, happy and rich!
Finally, I wish every student watching this can make more money!!!
A FUN Pickleball Game to Improve Your Consistency - Duration: 4:44.
The difference between good pickleball players and great pickleball players are mistakes.
In fact, it's really the difference at every single level of the game.
Today, I'm going to show you a fun way to help minimize some of those errors you make
on the court.
Stay tuned.
Hey, everybody had CJ Johnson.
This channel is devoted to all things pickleball, so if you're new here, welcome.
We talk about gear, instruction and the fitness that the active player over 50 needs to stay
healthy and on the courts longer.
If you haven't already done it, hit the subscribe button over here and the bell.
That way you'll get a notification when I post a new video every single Saturday.
Unfortunately, most of us have a small blind spot when it comes to our mistakes on the
pickleball court.
This fun game that you can use as a warm up is going to help you to see some of the areas
you may be able to improve.
If you aren't sure how to analyze your weaknesses, make sure that you stick around to the end
of this video.
I'm going to give you a free pickleball inventory sheet to help you do just that.
This summer, my friend Carol introduced me to this game that her club uses to help them
point out some of their unforced errors.
Simply defined an unforced error is a mistake made on an easy shot in a non pressure situation.
Now it may be easy to define, but it's not necessarily easy to pinpoint an unforced error.
It doesn't mean that it's the shot that ends the rally.
An example is when your partner hits a dink that's too high and it's attackable, your
opponent goes in for a kill shot that ends up at your feet and your unable to get the
ball back.
That's not an unforced error on your part.
The unforced error actually came from your partner hitting the ball too high and making
it attackable for your opponents.
Another example where there is no unforced error is when your opponent simply hits a
really great shot for a winner.
In this point, everybody is in the right place doing the right things.
I just simply hit a good shot behind James to win the point.
Each player is going to get one serve at the end of the point, simply rotate the serve
clockwise around the court until all four players have had a chance to serve.
Instead of having the server call the score at the start of the point, each player simply
holds their hand up in the air indicating the number of unforced errors they have to
that point, The serve rotates clockwise and play continues.
Here's an example of a point that ends with a perfectly placed backhand winner, right
down the center.
No unforced errors.
Here's a point with an example of a less obvious unforced error.
Lori's going to take away easy overhead from Cheri.
She realizes that after it's an over and charges herself with the unforced error.
Once all four of you have had a chance to serve, rotate one position on the court clockwise.
That way you'll be playing with a different partner.
Now if you'd like to dig a little bit deeper and find out more about your strengths and
weaknesses, I've posted a link in the show notes below.
That'll take you to a free inventory sheet.
I use this sheet with my students to help them to understand what they're good at and
where they need to improve so they make fewer mistakes out on the pickleball court.
If you'd like to minimize some of those mistakes make sure you click on this drills playlist,
it's designed to help you.
If you got value from this video, make sure that you give it a thumbs up or share it with
your pickleball playing friends because together we can train smart, live, bold, and age well.
How Should You Choose the Right Networking Group for You? - Duration: 5:21.
I'm Maile Collmer I'm a business consultant
I specialize in
business development through relationships and
a great way to build some great business
relationships is by being a part of a business
networking group.
There's a lot of different types of business networking groups and one of
the things I do is I help my clients find
the right groups for them that we're gonna have the
type of people that can make the right connections for them can introduce them to their
understand what they do so they can make great
referrals and partner up and build business
together. So one of the things I've been working
on is one of the groups that I belong to is Business Network International is the world's largest business referral organization and has
done so many great things for me personally,
it is my number one business network that I belong to and
when something gives so much to me of course, I live by the philosophy of "givers gain"
and the law of reciprocity and want to give back
so one of the things I've been doing this year is
helping a couple of groups get started with BNI.
so some groups of entrepreneurs, business owners, business professionals here in the local area have been starting up
a new chapters of BNI and I'm so excited because we're getting
them off and running off the ground and in action,
it takes some time to build the network because
we have to have so many people in the group to
make it a viable group and when we're growing our
business it's great to have the opportunity to build those great relationships. So having your
own business network that is your key place where
you build business relationships is vitally
important if you wanna grow, your business
through relationships and referrals, we have to
have those relationships Tips and build them and
have the opportunity to get face-to-face of
people to build the relationship to earn that
trust and then earn the referral and the best way
to do that is to be in a group that you
participate with in full out! Right? participate.
Full out be a part of the group and attend on a
regular basis and the more that you can meet with
these people the quicker you can develop those
relationships and, hopefully you will sustain
Relationships over time, because the longer we
have relationships, the easier it gets to refer
business to one another because we really know
each other. We have know each other's character
and confidence. We understand the business and
we're great questions to ask for those referral
and we really have that relationship where we are
really connected and work collaboratively and I'm
really excited about helping each other succeed
so being a part of a business network is vital to
success in in growing a business relationship
from referrals so one of the things I would
Recommend for you, if you're, not involved in a
business group, then find one that is right
for you. You wanna see if they're the people in
your contact sphere are part of the group. Those
are the key, essential relationships those are
what some people call centers of influence I. I call contact sphere
those are those businesses and professions that
are complementary to yours and not competing
because you have similar conversations with
clients who need Our services at the same time
typically or a complimentary services so your
clients need uh the referrals to you and to those
contacts for members so it's really easy to pass
business with those contacts, fear folks. So you
wanna look for a business network that has some
complimentary professions cuz it's gonna make it
Super easy for you to build those relationships
and pass business pro really quickly, because
your clients are gonna need each other services
So if you need help with selecting the right
group and kind of evaluating what that looks like
and and what kind of time, commitment and
participation, then let's have a conversation and
happy to help and point you in the right
direction. I know a lot of the groups in in my
local area and you know it's just important to be
able to have that group that you go to to build
the relationships because that's what builds of
referral based business so get out there join the group and please you know if you found this video
to be helpful. Please you know, follow me on you.
Tube like my Facebook page and, let's stay
connected I'm Maile Collmer, with Asentiv!
The Demon Trifle - Episode 1 - Duration: 9:12.
So, what do you think?
I know how you and your deals work, Jill.
In exchange for their lives, you can have my vessel.
Interesting...
Alright, I agree to these terms of yours.
Deal?
Deal.
Huh, where am I?
(Yawn)
I feel like I've been sleeping for half a decade.
Oh, you're awake.
That's good.
Um, yeah. Where am I? Who are you?
Oh no... It's really that bad?
You've been in a coma for the past two years.
It was a huge fire.
Your brother and sister...
I'm sorry.
Adam?! Livvy...
No! It can't-
You still haven't answered my questions.
I know this might be a lot to process, but I'm a good friend of Olivia's.
This is my brother and I's place.
You didn't have any known family, so we agreed to take you in.
You're still badly damaged, we didn't know if you'd make it.
If you say so...
Okay, that answers one question, but what about the second?
Who are you?
I am the magnificent Jillian Crooke.
But please, call me Jill.
My brother is Bill.
And just to warn you, he's a bit of a lovebird, so watch out.
Heh, alright.
Well, may I go meet him?
Of course, just get on up.
Shower and get dressed.
You can find those things on the door to your left and I'll introduce you.
I think Ethan is here as well, so you can meet him too.
You're already being so nice to me and we hardly even know each other.
Ouch!
Are you alright?
Oh no, I was rushing things, wasn't I?
No, no. I'm fine. My head just hurts a bit.
I'll get ready for... Breakfast?
Whatever meal it is right now.
Alright...
See you downstairs in the dining hall when you're ready.
New day, new life.
I'm done and ready! Where's Bill and Etha-
Woah.
This place is really fancy.
Oh, fresh meat.
So who might you be, my lovely lady?
Um, my name is Stella.
I'm going to presume you're Bill.
Oh yeah!
I remember Jill mentioning something about you.
So.
Stella.
Tell me something.
Where have you been the past two years?
Are you sure you weren't little miss Alice down the rabbit hole?
I may still be curious of that...
But yes.
I am Bill.
But nevermind me.
Tell me everything about you.
I can't really right now, I'm really hungy. Haven't eaten in two years, you know?
Alright little miss Alice.
Well.
After you've changed your starvation problem.
I want to hear every little detail about your adventure through Wonderland.
I don't really remember anything so I'd prefer not to talk about my past.
Well, Alice.
While I can say I'm not very pleased about this.
I won't force you to tell me anything more than you're comfortable with.
I'm very sorry about my brother.
I would stop him if I could.
No, no. It's not your fault. I'll just have to learn to deal with it. I'll be fine.
We may not be perfect, but we're glad to have you.
It's been pretty lonely around here with just each other.
Well, I'm glad to be here.
Gah, why can't she just hand over the stupid key?
It'll be a dark day when I actually like humans.
It's okay, Jillian. Just keep your act together. Stay smiling.
Ugh, what's the point?
I hardly even have a place in this plan.
At least in Bill's eyes, I'm just the one who has to make us believable.
But that's also Ethan's job, so I don't even have a role.
Plus, it's not like Bill would let me be the one to open the gate anyways.
Even if I did happen to be the one to get the key.
It's always about him and never about what I want.
Why can't I be the one to take the lead for once?
Hm, not like it matters anyways.
Once we get them out, I won't have to stay in the shadows ever again.
And nobody is going to take that away from me.
Hey.
Alice?
I thought I heard a little music coming from your room.
What might that have been?
It was nothing, don't worry about it.
And please, don't call me Alice. That isn't my name.
Heh. Oh please.
You couldn't make it more obvious. You're hiding something.
Aren't you?
No...
Please get away from me...
That's enough, Bill!
Stella, you may go up to your room.
I'll bring your breakfast to you.
(Quiet Sobbing)
What was that?
You need to stop making her feel upset or she'll never give it up.
I don't see the big problem, sis.
Everything is going to be fine.
She's still buying the act anyways.
Which is surprising to say the least...
You're a terrible actress!
And what is it with that stupid story about how her family died?
Talk about obviously faking it.
And what about-
Shut it.
I don't know what is up with you today, but I'm not liking it.
I'm going to bring Stella her breakfast.
But I'm not coming back down.
(Quiet Sobbing)
(Drunken Sailor being played on Violin)
(Clapping and Laughing)
I love you Adam, heh.
I'm so sorry Adam!
You really are amazing, you know?
I wish I could make that clear to you.
Then again.
Even if I could.
There's no way I could actually tell you how I feel.
There's no demon without human.
It could never happen anyways.
Yet, if a demon isn't supposed to be allowed to feel.
How could this be happening to me?
But it's nothing personal.
We just need you dead.
I love you Stella...
Stella.
I know you aren't feeling well. And I won't bother you anymore after this.
But, I just came to bring a little something to you.
Where are you Livvy?
Heh.
She's safe.
