hello everyone welcome to our first
episode of tech Tuesdays today we're
going to be discussing speech
recognition so I'm joined by one of our
tech team Liam
other so we're gonna jump straight into
it and start with the question what is
speech recognition can you help us out
with that Leah absolutely good question
so speech recognition in its simplest
form is put in words on screen that
spoken in real-time and I'm not
necessarily on screen and be recognized
in any application really so most people
will have had a exposure to speech
recognition with either Siri Alexa or
okay Google phone based or smart device
and throughout house and so yeah most
people will have used speech recognition
but probably not realized any of the
uses for it or that they even use the
speech recognition along with that
speech recognition is also used in
automated phone systems such as if you
bring up the bank in the past it used to
be you know quite closed questions can
you confirm your name or your card
number and with yes or no or we do a 16
digit number now it's really open-ended
and they ask you just for description
your problem and then didn't train you
know movie to the right Department which
shows how far it's come on and along
that's also in cars now and but in our
context of speech recognition we'll be
looking at it in terms of nuances dragon
speech recognition software which we
provide training on and also sell
licenses off so we deal mainly with drug
professional during pressure money where
and which then
and also dragon medical okay so now you
know what it is we're gonna be talking
about and we decided to do a question
and answer so we asked our social media
followers to submit some questions to us
and we're gonna answer them for you so
we've picked five we're gonna go
straight into the first one which is
from Rebecca she says I can envisage
speech recognition as the companies who
traditionally use dictation solutions
such as solicitors but would it be
useful in other office environments
that's a good question for Rebecca and
thanks for everyone's really I'm sure
this hundreds of questions mm-hmm
but yeah go back to the question and yes
it's a short answer uses in offices and
not just Alyssa's so if for instance you
you know you don't particularly good a
lot of typing but you know you're in
pain then from access to work
perspective and getting people back in
the workplace then yeah it can be used
in that respect it's also an efficiency
tool below so a solicitors use it to
trying it was as being words on screen
quickly and other people perhaps working
sales report right and they can use it
to again obviously get words on screen
but reply to you know emails quicker or
even you know report right even quicker
along with access to work and dragon
doesn't make spelling errors so it's a
good tool if you suffer dyslexia or or
you know if you're a poor speller so to
speak so the multiple applications for
it within the office environment right
okay the second question is from Max and
he asks how can I get dragon to
distinguish between cell and cell when
working in a spreadsheet
he wants to know how to navigate how to
keep dragging the different meanings
between the words
okay well dragon will know the different
meanings but to harness dragon user to
its potential it's just about know the
context in which to basically dictate
and along with that you know dragon is a
very deep product so there's a lot of
things you can do with it aren't
necessarily you know at the surface
you've got really scratched below the
surface to get the most out of it and as
a company we provide training on that
and medical and professional but tell
some access question and what you would
need to do in this instance is say move
to cell and then the cell letter and
number in in Excel so P you know moved
to cell a1 and it will move the the cell
highlight in Excel to that relevant so
if he was to just say cell a1 he would
write and said they want in the cell
that he already got selected
if he was to say go to cell 1 again
right go to so long and if he said you
know move to and then pause picked up
coffee and drink and then sell anyone
you know dragon would take that as
dictation rather than a command because
it's a particular way you need to issue
a command in during so you've got to be
careful of what it's saying before and
after days pretty much yeah ok third
question is from Jin he says I'm
interested in purchasing dragon for my
personal use since he writes a lot of
emails and he said there's so many
versions he doesn't know which one would
be best suited to him so you're right
there are a lot of versions in terms of
what you probably need if you're doing
emails at home and probably dragon
professional individual which can be in
stolen I think it's up to four computers
about four activations the way that
differs from dragon professional group
is general group is an enterprise sort
of solution they can have wrote a
profiles which you wouldn't need if
you're at home and and dragon medical is
obviously you know made for medical
environment into electronic patient
record systems and it's also got you
know ATO different medical vocabularies
that you know give additional context to
dragon in terms of drug names and
whatnot so yeah okay our next question
is from Elizabeth and she says new ones
have announced that they are
discontinuing dragon for Mac does this
mean that it won't work at all with
future well I have yeah it's quite
boogie at times but it certainly
certainly moved in the right direction
with version six which was the most
current one which is on you probably
using and there was eight service
package for that and so what nuances
announcement means in general is that
going forward a dragon for Mac won't be
produced in be produce any more service
packages for it so basically if you're
on six point eight moment that's as good
as it's happen again in this current
version on this current operating system
if you're on the most current one from
Apple's operating systems but Apple
obviously release new operating systems
quite frequently and so if you update to
the newest or the next release of the
Apple operating system and nuance won't
be working on any patches for dragon in
the operate in the environment operators
so it does develop books after was
previously working okay or even it just
stops working and then yeah there won't
be anything you can really do
fortunately other than roll back to an
operating system well an Apple operating
system that you know did work with
dragon and so yeah unfortunately stuck
between a rock and a hard place
we probably recommend if you could you
know get a Windows machine again during
a professional individual dragon for
Windows has been more mature than dragon
for Apple so I'll try to track them for
Mac sorry so you will tend to get a more
positive user experience with it
obviously some people love max the test
windows make Windows into test Mac so
it's a trade-off but yeah an install it
stops working
yeah so if you want Windows if you want
dragon okay our last question is from
Gerard he says how can I get dragon to
type numerals rather than spelling out
for words so there's a couple of ways
again you can either say numeral
followed by the number so you roll one
and then o put the number one rather
than the written form well there's an
option in Dragon which is options you
can go in there change set in and
basically choose a number so then if you
go book that number make sure it's the
new ball rather than the written form so
I think
it's like zero in a bull always putting
numbers or two above laws put numbers
things like that and but again you know
if you want to you know go into it and
get more in depth with how to do things
with Dragon then again we'd recommend
having some formal training okay there
go so there are all questions aren't so
good have been helpful and that
concludes our first tech tuesdays videos
so make sure that you'd like and share
and even take someone you think it might
be useful to alright see you next week
see you next Tuesday
