Hi, I'm Rev. Walker with AlphaChurch.org Our Scripture reading is Luke 24:36.
'While they were talking about this, Jesus Himself stood among them and said to them,
"Peace Be with you."
' God bless the reading and hearing of the Scripture today.
My friend I've got a question for you today.
Is it healthy for you to retreat when you feel fear and confusion, when you're almost
overwhelmed with turmoil inside of you?
You know, this could be a healthy Christian time and an opportunity for Jesus' Presence
to visit you with His peace and to touch you.
Holiness comes when we receive the Peace of Christ.
A time away from the crowds becomes right and good, and it's a time of quiet self searching.
It is a time to seek Christ's direction and guidance.
It was a time such as this when a doctor found Christ's blessing to go forward in obedience
with his life work.
I can't tell you the city because this man's story is unique, although this happened a
few years ago.
There was a physician who read in the paper about a little Russian girl who had exstrophy.
Do you know what that is?
It's a disease where the organs are on the outside of the body which should be on the
inside of the body.
And often the parts that this happens to are in the lower region of the body and its unbecoming.
Now, this physician read about this little girl and he couldn't stand it.
He studied Russian for two years and he started making trips to Russia.
And very soon after extra efforts he was able to adopt the little girl and bring her back
to the United States.
He had studied the language, she had been cared for for four months building up her
strength for surgery.
She had that surgery in one of the major cities in the United States.
And her organs and her little bladder was put back into her body and her life was changed
forever.
She would eventually be able to have children and live a regular life.
She was changed forever.
The minister that told about this story said his son had asked to be an intern under this
amazing surgeon and this older doctor had to share with someone and he shared with the
minister's son.
The minister asked the son, "Why do you think he did this?
What motivated him?"
The son explained that this doctor was born himself with exstrophy himself.
And he's kept that a secret all of his life because people wouldn't believe that he can
do the surgery that he does if they knew how he started out.
He started out like that.
But he couldn't tel it.
He had to keep it locked up inside of him and he shared it with one other person and
now because of that this little girl was permanently changed.
This little girl has newness of her life because of this.
And a doctor had received Peace from Christ back first when he began his career to go
forward and to learn and to do all that he could for others.
He left his confusion and his old life behind, taking up his New Life in Jesus Christ as
a medical doctor.
And what a wonderful Peace settled into that older doctor's heart again as he revisited
the Peace of Jesus.
Peace that's a life changing force for New Life.
That's the Peace of Christ that Christ gives to us when we seek it.
It is the same Peace that came to the disciples that evening of Resurrection Sunday when Christ
appeared to them.
Jesus came.
Jesus said, "Peace be with you."
And He meant My Peace be with you.
And He advised the men and women disciples to touch Him.
Touch Him because He is salvation.
Touch Him because all the prophecy is fulfilled within Him for the Messiah.
Touch Him because He's all the Peace that you will need, all the Peace that you need
at any moment in your life and Peace right now.
In Psalm 85:8-10 it says: Let me hear what God the Lord will speak for He will speak
Peace to HIs people, to His faithful, to those who turn to Him in their hearts.
Surely salvation is at hand for those who fear Him, but that His Glory may dwell in
our land.
Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet, righteousness and peace will kiss each other.'
When you're saved you can say, "Jesus Christ has got this one."
Right in the middle of a struggle.
Right in the middle of discontent.
Right in the middle of distress.
And He comes to you and He fills you with His Peace.
His Peace through the Power of the Holy Spirit in Christ you can know what to do.
Also, how to help others.
For His Peace is simply because you are receiving the Glory of His Grace, and within that is
His Peace.
Let's have a prayer together now: Gracious God, we thank You for Your Peace.
Jesus Christ touches our lives through this Church.
We welcome each person that is seeking Christ's Peace.
'O Holy and Gracious Lord, shower your Peace upon those faithful ones here , those who
have received your salvation by saying I give all of myself, my heart and my mind to Jesus
Christ my Lord and Savior, and I'm forever changed.
At the times when we are most unsettled continue to pour out Your Holy Spirit into our lives
so that we may live fully in obedience to You.
Guide and direct our words and our work and our witness.
In Christ's Holy Name we pray, Amen.
