Waching daily Feb 19 2019

Hey guys welcome back to my channel.

If you guys are new, my name is Andréa and I love eyeshadow palettes they are one of

my favorite things to try and purchase and just use and whenever I sit down to do my

eyeshadow I get so excited just thinking about what type of look I'm going to do that day.

I've kind of taken a step back from berry tones because I've really been reaching

for a lot of greens and blues and just neutrals, but I've kind of gotten back into berry

tones recently because I've just been going through my eyeshadow palette collection and

trying to reach into palettes that are kind of like forgotten favorites and like the pinks

and purples are just drawing me back in so in today's video I thought I would share

a bunch of berry toned eyeshadow palettes with you I will give you like the price information,

do swatches, give you like a little review but just kind of let you know if I think it

will work for you if you're into like super intense, vibrant berries or more muted, subtle

berries or if you like like a half natural half berry toned palette.

The reality is that a lot of palettes these days are like half neutral, half colorful

so the majority of the palettes that I have to share with you guys aren't like full

of pinks and purples but when I look at them I get more of like an overall berry vibe but

if you guys have a favorite palette that's like very pink or purple or berry themed I

would love to hear from you in the comments section below I'm sure there are palettes

out there that I'm kind of missing but in the meantime, I thought I would just give

you a rundown on some of the best berry palettes that I have in my collection.

So the palette that kind of inspired this video is the Dominique Cosmetics Berries & Cream

palette this is somewhat new to my collection I purchased it right at the beginning of January

and it's a really gorgeous palette this one retails for $44.00.

So this one is a Sephora exclusive and it's a really gorgeous palette it comes with twelve

different shadows I would say about four to five of these are what I would consider true

berry tones and the rest are neutral but they actually compliment berry tones really really

well I think that this one is going to be great for you if you are mainly a cool-toned

eyeshadow fan you do get a mix but in general this whole palette leans a little bit more

cool-toned but a lot of times with these types of palettes they're half neutral half colorful

but the neutral tones are very warm-toned, even like the berry shades are very warm-toned

so in general you get a very very warm look on the eyes but the reason why I like this

one is because all of the complimentary neutral colors tend to be a little bit more cool-toned

so I would say if you like cooler-toned shadows but you still like some colorful shades this

one is going to be a great option for you.

You can get so many different looks using this palette and the formula is SO high quality

it's such a good formula the mattes are extremely bendable and the metallic shades

are very soft and buttery and when you break this one down price per gram it is the least

expensive out of all of the products that I'm going to mention, which is kind of crazy

because the formula really is one of the best.

The next palette that I want to mention is something that I think is a little bit underrated

it is the Too Faced Tutti Frutti Razzle Dazzle Berry Eyeshadow Palette, such a long name,

it retails for $34.00 and this one's actually an Ulta Beauty exclusive when you break this

one down price per gram it's actually the most expensive so just keep that in mind it's

significantly more expensive that a lot of the other palettes.

The packaging on this palette beautiful is really beautiful it is berry scented so again

if you are very sensitive to scents I might skip over this one- I really would skip over

this one because it really is so strongly scented.

Even though there are only seven shadows there is so much going on in this palette there

are like matte shadows, mattes with glitter, metallic shadows, metallics with glitter,

some of the metallics are more of like a cream to powder finish and some are just like a

true powder finish it's not like you just get a matte and shimmer palette there's

just so much going on so you can create so many different looks and a lot of the berry

or colorful shades in here are very vibrant so you tend to get a little more of a dramatic

or intense look you can go in with some of the lighter shades to get more of a subtle

look, which is a nice touch, but in general when I reach for this palette I love like

these darker deep shades and again because there is so much going on in this palette

in terms of like colors and finishes I just think it's a fun palette to use you can

get a lot of different creative looks now if you tend to be more subdued with your eyeshadows

or you prefer a lot of neutrals in your palette, this isn't going to be the one for you but

if you just want like a fun, colorful palette that's small and compact this one's a great option.

Now if you're into more subtle pink and purple tones I do have another smaller palette

that would work well for you this one is the Dose of Colors Marvelous Mauves palette this

one retails for $32.00 each you can get it at Ulta Beauty or of course on the Dose of

Colors website and this one comes with five different shadows.

Sometimes it's nice to have a lot of options but sometimes honestly it's nice to have

a smaller palette because you're not overwhelmed by so many choices and all of the colors in

this palette go so well together whether you're going for more of a soft subtle look or a

dark dramatic look you can definitely get a seamless look using this palette and the

five shadows in here.

Now they do have a palette that's actually called the Blushing Berries palette which

has more like vibrant intense berries, so that might be a good option for you I don't

have that palette I actually purchased it for my mom for Christmas and she loves it

so I'm kind of considering grabbing it because I have been enjoying this formula lately it's

a very very powdery formula so if you do not like powdery eyeshadows you're definitely

going to want to skip over this one but because it is so powdery I find that it's so super

blendable which I think makes it really nice if you just want a quick easy eye look because

the shades blend so easily and so seamlessly especially because it's just coordinated

so well in terms of color.

This just makes purples and pinks a little bit less intimidating and a little bit more

wearable for people who typically wear very subtle eyeshadow or very neutral tones so

I just wanted to throw it out there it's very easy to work with it's non-intimidating

you do a brush which is a nice touch and I really really enjoy this one so I had to include

this in today's video.

So technically, a cherry is a not a berry but I do find that the Urban Decay Naked Cherry

Palette has berry tones in it this retails for $49.00 and this palette is a little bit

neglected in my collection which is weird I hate that it is because I used it today

and I love it but again when I reach for like pinks and purples I usually want a pretty

vibrant look and I kind of think this palette makes those shades again, a little bit more

wearable so you can actually get this one at Sephora or Ulta and again on the Urban

Decay website it comes with twelve different shadows and you do get a dual-ended brush

but if you're familiar with the Naked palettes and you enjoy that formula overall I do think

you would enjoy this one the metallic shadows are pretty on the eyes but they're not so

intense that they're intimidating and the matte shadows blend out really easily again,

without being overly pigmented.

The thing about this palette is that you get a really light, subtle look if you go into

the first half or a little bit more of a dramatic deep look with the second half which is what

I'm wearing on my eyes today in general when I reach for this palette, I tend to reach

for these shades and then I might use these as like highlight or transition shades but

I love these tones in the palette I think if they added like a black cherry shade that

would have been so nice because that would have just made the look- it would have elevated

the look to make it a little bit more dramatic but you know, I don't think the Naked palettes

are necessarily meant to be the most dramatic palettes on the market so I do think it is

a good option if you like shades like this.

The next palette that I want to mention again is like half neutral half colorful but the

colorful shades are very muted so this is going to be a good option for you if you are

pretty intimidated by really vibrant colors this is the Tarte Love, Trust, and Fairy Dust

Eyeshadow Palette it retails for $39.00 and this is available at Sephora they said it

was limited edition but I got mine a long time ago and it's still available so if

you are interested in grabbing it you can still get it this palette comes with ten different

shadows and then the center shade is technically a highlight but you could use it as an eyeshadow

as well again, similar to the Dose of Colors palette I think this one is going to be great

for those of you that tend to prefer natural colors but want to incorporate more muted

berries into your eye look.

Most of the berry tones in here are very muted with the exception of like that vibrant pink

right on top so in general you're going to get a little bit more of what most people

would call a wearable look and you can even incorporate some of those neutrals to get

more of a toned-down, muted berry look and the shades in here are a little bit more cool-toned

there a couple of warm shades, but in general it's very very toned-down compared to some

of the super warm palettes on the market so if you're over really vibrant warm tones,

this might be a great option for you as well I will say the packaging is not reflective

of the eyeshadows inside just keep that in mind you're not going to open it up and

find like super intense vibrant pinks and purples but I do think it's a good everyday

palette the formula's good the matte shadows are blendable and smooth and the metallic

shadows are nice because they're not so intense I love really intense like pigmented

saturated metallic shadows but I know not everybody feels that way so if you like something

that's just going to add a little bit of shine and look really pretty on the eyes this

might be the option for you.

The last palette that I wanted to mention is kind of like a bonus palette because I

really was trying to focus on palettes that gave me like an overall berry vibe and I don't

know that this one really does but when you Google berry-toned palettes or when you think

of berry-toned palettes a lot of times this one does pop into your mind, at least me personally,

so this one of course is the Anastasia Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette this one retails

for $42.00 you can find this one at Sephora or Ulta and I'm sure by now a lot of you

guys, if not all of you have seen this palette before but it comes with fourteen different

shadows I would say about four of them are berry-toned and the rest are pretty neutral

so you know four out of fourteen isn't really that high of a ratio but at the same time

the vibrant colors or- I'm trying to avoid using the word berry so much but it's so

hard- we're just going to use it- the berry tones in here are very vibrant so I feel like

those are the really obvious standout colors in the palette and they're so beautiful

so when I do think of like pinks and reds and berries this is the palette that always

comes to mind so this one is going to be a great option for those of you that like the

Anastasia formula it really has been one of my favorite formulas over the past year the

matte shadows are just so blendable, they're a little bit powdery but they just blend out

so beautifully on the eyes.

This one is going to be a nice option if you like neutrals but a lot of the palettes that

I mentioned that are like half neutral half berry the neutral colors are very toned-down

but the neutrals in here are pretty vibrant you do get some really like very warm shadows

like these two over here you also get an orange, you get a deep brown, you get a bunch of different

colors in here so you can create so many different looks so if you like neutrals but you do want

to add a couple of fun like vibrant berries to your collection you would definitely get

a lot of a use out of this palette it's just a fun palette to use it's very easy

to work with and you can create so many different looks.

So thank you guys so much for watching I hope this video was helpful if you were just looking

for a new palette or you just wanted see some swatches or hear a breakdown or some mini

reviews but I really appreciate you guys taking time out of your day to watch my video.

The National Emergency Trump & the Media Won't tell You About! - Duration: 11:06.

The question that I wanted to lay out in this first hour . . . in the

second hour we're gonna have this guy from We Built the Wall Incorporated on.

We're gonna debate the wall and all that kind of stuff. And

in our third hour, I want to get into some of the some of the topics that

frankly go beyond that you know the lessons of Youngstown steel and all

that sort of thing. But the first the first one is the crises that we're

facing. There's a, and my question to you is, of all the crises that we are

facing right now in the United States. Trump of course is asserting the the you

know brown people coming from Mexico with the drugs and gang tattoos. At least

in his mind. In his delusional paranoid mind. But that's our biggest crisis right?

That's worth them and a national emergency. Well if you're gonna have a

national emergency, what are what are the real crises? And and I think that this is

an important question because if Trump gets away with his emergency declaration.

And Congress and you know he kind of laid this out as did Alec Baldwin. And

Congress says "No it's not really an emergency, sorry".

And then he vetoes that congressional resolution which undoes his declaration

of emergency and then Congress fails to overturn his veto, that means that he

gets his emergency. And then he can move a few billion dollars around and he can

you know build part some more of his wall or whatever he wants to do. But the

question is, what are the real crises that we're facing? I mean if we're going

to I mean if Trump is gonna blow up the Constitution if he's gonna violate

article 1 section 9 if he's gonna if he's gonna say no I am like King George

the 3rd I am I am the one who decides how money gets spent and if I'm the one

who do you know tag takes his act tax money and spends it however I want. If he

does that, successfully, and you know McConnell and the other Republicans

kind of go along with him, and yeah okay all right no problem.

Then and a Democratic president comes in behind him and says you know this is all

well and good but we actually have some real emergencies here I mean the IPCC

says that we now have what 11 years 10 years to basically go to zero carbon or

we're going to see the destruction of much of what we call civilization and

possibly even the destruction of the human race we have you know schools that

are failing we have it you know in large part because of the the whole racist

history of funding schools with property taxes we have more than a half a million

American children suffering from lead poisoning there's an interesting piece

in The New York Times actually back a week or so ago that listed some of the

things that could be done with the five billion dollars that Donald Trump wants

for his wall and I'll just go through this list and as as possibilities but

what I'd like to hear from you at 202 808 9925 is what do you think are the

real emergencies that we're facing I mean if we're gonna if we're gonna

declare an emergency or if a year and a half from now two years from now a

Democratic president comes along and has a Democratic Congress and I think that

that's entirely possible by the way what what can you know which which of these

crises would you like to see us you know would you like to see a Democratic

president basically lay his presidency or her presidency on the line for to do

something about it and how do we fight back when we are being overwhelmed by

the GOP power structure and when the majority of Americans are one paycheck

away from you know having a crisis themselves so some of the things we

could do with the with the five billion dollars the Trump is going to take from

someplace we haven't we don't know yet probably out of the military budget

there was some discussion earlier that he was gonna take you know emergency

funds for California and in Puerto Rico and not Texas no no no no Texas a red

state but California Porter a but you know we don't we just don't know yet

right and we'll find that out as the week goes on but for example more than a

half a million American children suffer from lead poisoning every year this is

an epidemic of lost potential lead poisoning measurably reduces IQ and

increases the propensity for violence to solve that problem nationwide to

literally have have you know contractors whether they're government agencies or

people that we hire using government money to have contractors go through and

and get all the lead paint out of American homes and get the lead water

lines out 125 million bucks save the lives of a half a million children Trump

doesn't consider that important at all so that ain't happening for four hundred

and thirty eight million dollars we could put over a million long-acting

reversible contraceptives they're called lar CS IUDs implants things like that

for at-risk young women and that's based on the on the cost of four hundred and

thirty-eight dollars per person that's four hundred thirty-eight million bucks

we could provide comprehensive drug treatment for forty thousand mothers for

18 months we've got roughly the best best guess is right now that with

children under two years old there's about forty thousand mothers who are

actually addicted to drugs right now and if the cost of twenty eight thousand

dollars each for 18 months for drug treatment we could spend a billion

dollars and solve that problem we could we could save 40,000 children's lives we

could we could for 650 million dollars we could send visiting home nurses to a

hundred thousand pregnant moms and and their and their newborn children you

know shortly after they give birth and help them out for 311 million dollars

this again these are this is chump change compared to the

five billion that Trump wants we could give methadone treatment to forty seven

thousand narcotics addicts in the United States for four and a half billion

dollars we could provide Medicaid to three point seven eight million children

we could give them health care almost four million children for seventy three

million dollars we could give VA healthcare to seven thousand returning

troops for two hundred and fifty million dollars we could radically reduce gang

violence in the United States for 11 million dollars we could buy back a

hundred and eighteen thousand guns for two hundred million dollars we could

provide permanent housing for two hundred thousand homeless people for

seven hundred and twenty million dollars we could provide an employment program

for adults in public housing 90,000 people in public housing who in many

cases are functionally illiterate seven hundred twenty million dollars we can

give them you know an education for two hundred fifty eight million dollars we

could provide literacy programs for five million at-risk children that's $20 per

child per year literacy coaching and there's even a program to do it it's

called reaching out and read for six hundred fifty million dollars we could

provide tech ad a technical education and internships for fifty thousand

low-income young people give them a start

you know launch them into careers in their lives for two hundred thirty four

million to see none of these are even 1 billion dollars and Trump is saying oh

I'm going to get eight billion dollars for two hundred and thirty four million

dollars job training and life skill coaching for thirty six thousand

prisoners so when they you know are integrated back into their societies we

don't have high recidivism rates this is something that they you know every

European country does this we don't we could we could enroll struggling 10th

grade boys this is a particular at-risk group

for 322 million dollars for 11 percent of all our 10th grade boys which is you

know about the percentage who are in all probability gonna get on a high school

or maybe not even graduate from high school and end up you know with a life

that just doesn't work because they really didn't have that education that

they needed for a hundred million dollars we could fund research into

crime drug use in high school graduation rates in poverty we could the the

Treasury Department for our estimates that for every dollar that they spend

funding the Internal Revenue Service they get back six dollars in taxes and

the Republicans ever since Reagan have been defunding the IRS year after year

after year it's down to the point now where it's

very rare that the IRS even audits billionaires anymore they mostly just

audit average working people because you know it's easier and faster and they can

keep their audit numbers up to hundred fifty million dollars we could fund the

IRS for four hundred eighty 1 million dollars we could give a 6 percent raise

to to two hundred thousand teachers that would be all the teachers in Florida

Louisiana in Texas for example 6% raise we could provide financial coaching to

5.9 million struggling Americans for a little over a billion dollars we could

train five hundred thousand five hundred forty two thousand quote working poor

Americans for only forty three million dollars we could buy bed nets to protect

twenty million families from malaria now that would be mostly in other countries

but it would save twenty thousand lives I mean you know the the list goes on we

can provide vitamin A supplementation for a hundred million children prevent

blindness all over the world for two hundred seventy million dollars we could

purify water for twenty five million people for thirty three million dollars

I mean where should our priorities be if we're going to have an emergency and if

Trump is is successful in establishing this precedent

what should a Democratic president do if they're going to declare an emergency

"A few of her friends texted her and she was obviously surprised, but doesn't feel hurt

SEO Trends In 2019 - You Need To Do Now - Duration: 4:28.

Hi there!

I'm Jay and today I am going to tell you FOUR SEO trends for 2019, that if you're not already,

should be doing now!

Today I am going to talk about Mobile First SEO, Voice Search, Video Content, and an old favourite

that should never be forgotten, User Experience

Let's get straight into it first with, Mobile First SEO and Mobile Friendly Websites

These days we have the entire internet in the palm of our hand.

So it's no wonder people are using it to search for products and services.

But with 60 - 90% off all Google searches, depending on the industry, happening out of

a Mobile there is no wonder they introduced "Mobile First Indexing" in March of 2018.

Mobile first indexing is essentially just giving a lot more weight into whether or not

your site is mobile friendly.

Speaking of things being in the palm of your hand, Virtual Assistants.

Voice Search.

Cortana.

Google.

Siri.

And, Alexa.

These weird robotic ladies of our lives that can make calls, book haircuts, or even just

order products straight to your homes these days.

In 2019, this trend will only grow.

For example, Google voice searching is already about 1 in 5 of every Mobile Search.

So that mean's out of every Google Search in general, that means roughly 12% of those

are voice searches.

A lot of people argue that Voice Searching isn't going to be a thing.

But the truth is, it's already here in a big way.

So you should be optimising for Voice Search as well.

Long Tailed Voice Orientated Keywords, Local SEO, and make sure your results show up as

a Featured Snippet.

So what do I mean when I say long tailed voice orientated keywords and local seo.

Well I can give a pretty good example.

Hey Siri, where's the closest burger place?

THR1VE is the closest option I see.

It appears to serve Burger and averages 4 stars.

Want to try that one?

Uh, No it's okay, thank you though.

You're welcome.

So if it's already a thing, why wouldn't you try capitalise on the market.

And if it goes away in the future, it's no wasted effort.

At least you did what is currently trending.

2 trends down, and 2 more to go.

But if this video has been helpful so far, and you like how I'm delivering this information.

Then liking this video goes a long way in telling me to create more content like this.

So the next trend is Video Content.

What we're doing now.

Video Content is huge.

It's been important for a long time, and at the rate it's growing it will continue to

be incredibly important.

If you aren't already working on Video Content, and I don't mean facebook and instagram stories

despite those being an important part.

What I mean is actual SEO optimised full production video content.

Then you might want to start looking at it for 2019, cause it's only getting bigger.

Afterall, Youtube has over 1 Billion Users, 1/3 of online activity is estimated to be

Video Watching, 92% of mobile video viewers share the video after.

Speaking of Mobile, don't forget to add those captions to your content.

85% of videos viewed on a mobile are without sound, so subtitles and captions really increase

your viewer retention.

And the overall, User Experience is good.

Which brings me to my last trend, and it's kind of a trend that's not going anywhere.

It's User Experience.

User Experience is incredibly important.

And it will always be incredibly important.

Which is why I think it's so crucial to always remind people with an A.I. like Rank Brain

playing such an important role in deciding where you rank in Google or overall watch

time the reason why you're video will rank.

It can never be understated how important user experience is.

You may be able to get people to your site, or to start watching your video but can you

deliver the information or content to them in a way that keeps them on your site.

or keeps them till the end of the video.

And so on this topic, I have a challenge for you.

It would be brilliant if you could leave your answer in the comments with the #BeBetter.

Out of these Four trends, or any other focus you might have for this year, what do you

want to be better at?

What are you going to focus on?

Are you going to work on User Experience?

Are you going to work on optimising your video content?

Let me know in the comments, I look forward to reading it.

And we can all #BeBetter together.

And that's all four trends, voice search, video content, Mobile first, and user experience.

We make videos weekly, and we'd love for you to subscribe or comment about what more you

want to see.

Thanks for watching!

Can you make money with shopify? - Duration: 4:15.

Hey guys,

this is Juan Mazo here and today I'm going to be addressing the important

question that most new people to online marketing,

ECOMM or any type of online business have and that is can you make money off of

Shopify?

You absolutely can make money off of Shopify.

Back in the day like 2015 you can go and just throw up any type of ad on

Facebook or any other ads,

marketplaces,

drive traffic to your Shopify store and sell without trying all that hard and

today it's a little bit tougher.

You got to really approach things in a business oriented or brand oriented way,

right?

The way you make money with Shopify is very simple.

You build a website,

you drive traffic to the website and you sell the products on said website.

Now there's a couple models you can follow,

but the most popular model is drop shipping.

With drop shipping.

What you do is you can go to like Ebay or some other online store that has a

large selection of products.

You take that product,

you load it up into your Shopify website and then you drive traffic to the

website.

When you drive traffic to the website,

people can go and browse the website and see like,

Oh hey,

there's this one product I'm interested in.

Hopefully it's the one that you're advertising and they can go ahead and place

an order.

When they placed the order,

you hold zero inventory.

This is what you do.

You go in and take that product order and go to Amazon or Ebay or wherever it is

that you're getting your product from and just send it to your client.

That's it.

You take your customer,

you take in the details that they provide,

which is,

you know,

their address,

their name,

and you populated into their app and to the address on Amazon or Ebay and you

send it.

That's it.

It's that simple.

Make sure it clearly that whatever product you're,

you're uploading from Amazon or Ebay or whatever source is a marked up.

You know,

as normal,

you can go as low as 20% or as high as five times the original price.

Now you may be asking,

is this legal?

Is this legit?

It is what this is.

This drop shipping has been around forever.

Uh,

you could have back in the 90s,

been placing orders for computers by just calling up the manufacturer.

You know,

you offer the computers and you call the manufacturer,

say,

yeah,

we have an order drop ship.

Send.

Very normal stuff and some people are wondering is it like okay to,

you know,

get a product cheaper at some marketplace or some website and then sell it five

times the price.

Some people feel unethical so people's feel sticky about it.

Reality is that's called value arbitrage.

You're taking in the product from one market in presenting it to another market

and showing it to them and they're showing interest.

Yes,

of course.

Anyone can go buy the same product for you know,

five times less the price or whatever the scenario is.

But not many people know the product exists and what you are really providing is

an opportunity for people who otherwise would have not known that product would

have existed to see it and buy it.

Now.

A lot of sharper,

a lot of shoppers nowadays,

they're,

they're very smart.

They're not going to go and say,

oh,

I found this one product.

I'm just going to buy it right off the bat.

A lot of people,

especially me,

they'll go online and they can just find it for cheaper,

but this is the other thing that makes drop shipping a little bit different than

just straight up go to China and buying it.

You can add more value,

so if you get a product that comes in and you have that nice good customer

support in place,

you know like if you immediately answered questions and you have more products

that they're interested in,

they're going to keep coming back to you.

One of the things when I was growing up that was always a little wary about is

like buying from a company that looks sketchy,

not reputable like I'm about to plug in my credit card and I'm really scared,

but with Shopify it makes it so that as long as you're providing good customer

service,

people are going to be more than happy to you know transact with you.

The short answer of,

can I make money on Shopify?

You absolutely can.

Now you have more specific questions on how Shopify works.

Stay tuned.

We're going to be covering all those things.

That's it guys.

Thanks for watching the video.

Let me know if you have any questions,

make sure you subscribe to my videos.

Follow me,

add me,

add comments,

let you know,

let me know what kind of questions you have that I can answer for you.

Um,

I'm more than happy to do that.

And uh,

yeah,

I hope this was a helpful and insightful.

I know it's super short,

but I'm just trying to fill in those gaps where you guys,

thanks.

Fantastic Beasts 2 special effects secrets: Niffler moment you missed to Hogwarts - Duration: 11:41.

One of the crowning achievements of the Fantastic Beasts franchise is the imaginative creatures - oh and the vast magical landscapes

Fantastic Beasts earned two Academy Award nominations for its production design and costume design, winning an Oscar for the latter

The more recent Crimes of Grindelwald was nominated for a BAFTA for its visual effects too

But who is behind the wizardry we see on screen? Christian Manz is one of the minds behind the creatures and visual effects that bring JK Rowling 's wizarding world to life

Crimes of Grindelwald isn't the first time Manz has worked with director David Yates - he also has credits as far back as the Harry Potter films

At the beginning of pre-production Yates challenged Christian and the team to push creativity on the film and to have fun with the creatures

Christian recently gave a talk about his work on the film at The VFX Festival , Mirror Online caught up with him after to talk all things Fantastic Beasts, VFX and what the future holds for the industry

No time to read? Click on the video above to listen to our interview with Christian Manz - with bonus secrets about Harry Potter and Dobby! The film is quite the operation

There are 1,500 artists working on the film at multiple facilities around the world, with about 100 people working on a single character

Harry Potter always had it's creatures, from the hippogriff to Dobby, but Fantastic Beasts takes it even further

"The Zouwu was particularly difficult," Christian says. "It had to be one, what Jo had written, and two, what everyone wanted - the Chinese creature - and in the end we designed a particularly bonkers design

"David, the director, wasn't sure at first. But one of our animators loved it so he quickly built it, modelled it, and animated it and that's what got us the Zouwu because David loved it

" The Zouwu is quite a detailed design. It's a monstrously large feline beast, as big as an elephant, with a striped body, scraggly mane, four fangs that curl out of its mouth, long sharp claws, and a disproportionately long, ruffled multicoloured tail

"By the nature of its face it was quite hard, with big bug eyes, it's quite difficult to emote and you actually had to have quite a lot of subtle controls in there," explains Christian

It paid off though, and ended up giving us one of the funniest moments of the film

"The bit where Newt waggles the Zouwu's toy in the air, everybody laughs at that and that's because they're seeing something, everyone has a dog or cat that would do the same thing

"What our animators do is study real animals, they closely study the natural world to see all those behavioural things

The big thing with the beasts is they are animals, not characters, but every dog or cat has a character

" When done right of course, the creatures give us some of the best humorous moments in the Fantastic Beasts franchise

"With the Niffler - especially with the first and second film - you are trying to think of funny things," Christian said

"It's those things that lift it." To create the funny moments, it's all about finding what's relatable, but it's also about the tiny moments you don't always see at first

"With the Niffler there's the times he's dragging his belly on the ground or he's taking the gold," Christian says

"It's something you've seen, but it's subtle animation - again you see his little heart going under the feathers, you see the pauses, it's some of the most difficult things to do

I think it's as much of what he doesn't do as he does do." Christian adds there's one particular moment in the Crimes of Grindelwald that the audience don't always spot

"There's a shot in there where which hardly anybody ever sees," he says. "[The Niffler] steals something in the background, with Eddie in the foreground as Newt, and he sort of is surreptitiously stealing something

" The movement and inspiration for the Niffler actually came from another animal

"That originally came from looking at a honey badger rifling through someones rubbish in South Africa I think," Christian reveals

"The insatiable desire to get in the fridge and get the food. Nothing was going to stop it, and getting that over in this is what makes it funny

" While creatures are a huge part of why we love Fantastic Beasts, the actual world the wizards and witches live in is another

Christian works with closely with Stuart Grey who worked on the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beast films to create the world we see on screen

"A lot of Paris still exists as it did in the 1920s, and New York, so Stuart starts with concept images of all the different streets that appear in the film and he'll be using real locations, but using other buildings or shifting buildings around to create nice compositions

" The team then had a "shopping list" to take to Paris, where they spent a month scanning whole streets, whole buildings, taking thousands of photographs before they come back

They then have digital models of all those buildings to match the concepts for the shots they film

The data has to be shared with the facilities in the UK and Canada. "We still shoot a lot of set it's not all green screen," Christian says

They work off of this, creating shadows and effects so it looks "as real as possible"

Sometimes too real. "I did a talk in Paris recently and they asked us which parts of Paris we shot in and we didn't go there at all!" Of course, one of the most iconic buildings - Hogwarts - is also brought to life thanks to Christian and the team

For all the seven Harry Potter films they'd built it digitally. "The team used the same material to re-build it and zhuzh it up for 2018," Christian says

The Hogwarts interior was the same location for Harry Potter one and two. For the Great Hall, they scanned the hall at Warner Bros Studio Tour London

"We digitally created the whole set, but using the real set in the tour and referencing all the photographs and the films themselves," Christian explains

The Ministry of Magic was the same, with the team using drawings and photos from 10-15 years ago

"We were ringing up sculptors asking for their work," he says. "This franchise is unique it's all there in the museum, so it feels as authentic as possible

" Even though the first films still provide a wealth of material, things have changed since the first movie's release

"The big change is the amount of visual effects content," Christian says. "When you go to  Harry Potter tour, things like the hippogriff, that was digital but there was physical build of the creature

When you go to the tour you see they built a lot of stuff, which you don't necessarily do anymore

A lot is imagination based now. We can do more. "If you were doing Fantastic Beasts at the time of Harry Potter, with New York, with Paris, we wouldn't have been seeing as much of that city as we're able to show today

" That's mostly down to technology of course. "Computers have got quicker, and artists, we're getting more and more experience every year

"Visual effects is playing catch up to an industry that's been going for more than hundred years

The biggest difference for people coming into it now is they've got access to all of that, much more easily than I did, as a person who started not being able to use a computer

" There's plenty of young talent working their way up now too. The festival discovered 71 per cent of the future workforce aged 16-25 said they have a desire to work in the Creative Industries, despite an absence of careers guidance

But Art and design is losing popularity, as both parents and students rank it as the least important subject to study at school, despite showing an increased interest in creative careers

There's still hope for the future of visual effects, and plenty of work to be done - after all JK Rowling did say there's another three Fantastic Beast films

But while people speculate how films will develop and use visual effects, Christian thinks there's one way it can go

"There will be more of [special effects], but where's it is going is you won't notice it as much

Now it's a craft, the use of it now is to create a world and enable the director and writer to come up with things you wouldn't do before - whether it's a space ship or creature

"Film making has been going towards more and more green, less and less set, and there's all the talk that there won't be actors anymore

I believe there will be actors, there will still be performance. "The key thing with digital characters is getting the authentic performance and that's still driving ahead and us embedding ourselves into it

" For Christian it's "augment and not create as much as possible". What will really want to know? Will we get more Fantastic Beasts creatures? "It's trying to push the envelope of what is fantastic," Christian says

"It's trying to find the next Niffler. That's the biggest struggle. The struggle for me is ideas really, not in technology

You just have to think of ideas. I think when a film captures the audience's imagination - with this type of film - is when they see something they haven't seen before - that's the hardest thing to do
