Hey guys, I'm Justin with americanmuscle.com, and this is my quick overview of the Airaid
Jr. Intake Tube Kit featuring the SynthaMax dry filter available for your 2011 through
2014 EcoBoost powered F-150.
All right guys, in this quick video I'm going to talk to you about some of the benefits
of going with the Airaid Jr. kit on your EcoBoost F-150, what you're looking at as far as components
and construction, and then finally what it takes to get this puppy installed.
Honestly guys, you're going to leave the big tools in the toolbox for this one.
Just a small screwdriver or 8 millimeter socket is really all you're looking at here.
It's a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and we'll have a little bit more detail
coming up later on.
You should be checking out the Airaid Jr. kit if you're looking to improve upon the
factory intake system without completely replacing it, freeing up a little bit of power in the
process and saving you some money as opposed to going with a full-blown aftermarket cold
air.
The truth of the matter is here, guys, that the factory cold air systems or factory airboxes
in your F-150 have come a long way over the last decade and the factory's done a great
job of designing a free flowing efficient setup that taps into some factory cold air
ducting through the front of the truck.
And honestly again, they do a pretty solid job overall, however guys there is always
room for improvement.
Like I mentioned earlier, this kit from Airaid improves on the factory intake design by eliminating
and replacing two of the most restrictive parts of the factory intake system - the factory
inlet tube and that cheap paper element factory filter.
Airaid claims, by replacing these two parts here from their system or with their system,
you're going to see a small bump in horsepower and torque, nothing crazy, a little bit better
fuel economy, and of course some improved throttle response as well.
If you really want to truly unlock some big power gains in your EcoBoost F-150, you need
to check out some of the tuning options here on the site because that's where the big power
is really going to come from.
Check out some of the product pages if you haven't done so already.
We've got some great dyno results on there for you, and you get a better idea of how
these trucks really respond to a tune.
Now let's first start with the inlet tube portion of the intake.
The factory inlet tube by itself is a tad on the small side, and it's not exactly what
I would consider smooth.
You have an accordion-shaped portion.
There's actually some interior sound baffles in that thing as well designed to help keep
some of that turbo noise down in factory form.
Both of these things are working against you, creating some turbulence in the air and restricting
airflow, hurting your performance in the process.
The Airaid inlet tube here on the other hand, as you can see, is a nice step-up from the
factory tube in itself, and it's also 100% completely smooth thanks to that rotomolded
plastic construction, so it's going to help eliminate some of that turbulence you might
see with the factory elbow.
Along with replacing the intake tube portion here with the Airaid kit, you're also going
to be replacing that cheap paper element one time use factory filter, which doesn't really
do anything for your performance.
You're going to be replacing it with one of Airaid's tried and true filters, their SynthaMax
dry filter.
This thing is washable, it is reusable, and it is going to save you some money in the
long run.
The SynthaMax dry filter is actually going to do a great job providing more protection
for your EcoBoost powerplant.
This thing's going to capture a lot of dirt and dust down to 2 microns in size.
To give you a better idea of what that means, a grain of sand on average is 90 microns in
size, so obviously this thing is going to do a great job of keeping all of that bad
stuff out while allowing for maximum flow.
As far as basic construction components, things like that, well guys, 100% top notch, and
that's really what we've come to expect from a brand like Airaid over the years.
At least that's been my experience personally.
Rotomolded plastic intake tube, nice clamps, four ply couplers here, and then moving over
to the SynthaMax dry filter, again, everything is designed great and as such it will fit
great.
Pricing-wise, you're going to be looking at right around the $200 price point, which is
pretty reasonable comparing this to a more complete or full intake system.
That's because, honestly guys, this isn't a full intake system.
You're still utilizing some of the parts of your factory intake and as such you're going
to save some money in the process.
Again, that's why I said this is a great kit for someone who wants to see some of the small
benefits of running an aftermarket cold air but you don't want to go all out and spend
all the money of a complete system.
Switching gears, let's talk install here, guys.
Again, as you can see, there's really limited work involved because of what you're dealing
with.
You have a few basic hose clamps on this side, which can be attacked with 8 millimeter sockets
or a flathead screwdriver.
As far as the intake itself or the air filter itself, you're basically just popping the
lid off that factory airbox, dropping this guy after you toss that paper element in the
trash.
Overall, you're looking at 1 out of 3 wrenches on my difficulty meter, a very soft 1 out
of 3 wrenches, by the way, and maybe 30 minutes to an hour at the very top in dealing with
this kit.
Anybody should be able to tackle this one in the garage or driveway with ease.
I really enjoy the Airaid Jr. kit from Airaid here because it does address a couple of the
weak spots with the factory intake system while managing to keep the price down in the
process.
Sure you might not be getting some of the huge visual improvements of a more complete
intake system or some of the increased sound benefits of an open element style filter,
but if neither of those things are important to you, you really can't go wrong with the
Airaid Jr. kit.
That's my review of the Airaid Jr. Intake Tube and SynthaMax dry filter which you can
find right here at americanmuscle.com.
