Hi everyone, it's Lily, and today I'm going to be doing an unhaul video. I've
never actually done an unhaul video before despite the fact that I regularly cull
my books, I regularly get rid of things that I didn't like or i know I'm not
going to read, stuff like that. And I've just never done it, I think I've just
never thought to film it before even though I really enjoy watching these
videos. Before I used to kind of do it spontaneously and just kind of go down
to the charity shop that day or the next day so I didn't really have time but
because I don't live near shops or civilization anymore I do have to
think about it a little bit more and plan like my trip to donate all this stuff, so
I've got some time so I thought I'd unhaul some of these because I really like watching
these, I find them really catahrtic so I hope you guys enjoy this. There is going
to be a section of books at the end that I'm willing to take
like the case for like, I'm just not sure, I think I'm gonna get rid of them but
I'm very willing for you guys to convince me to keep them. I will let you
know when that pile comes up but for the most part the ones I'm gonna show you first
I'm definitely getting rid of. So the first one was actually a book that i DNF'd
and that is The wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell. This book is
beautifully designed and i'm sure it is beautiful, it was very
beautifully written, very atmospheric however I just can't connect to middle
grade novels, I don't know what it is, I just can't get into them and I DNF'd this at
about the halfway point. And I just figure, this is a really lovely book,
so many people love it, that I figure it would be better going to someone who
will really love it than taking up space on my shelf. The next one is Go Set a Watchman by
Harper Lee. I really love To Kill a Mockingbird, it's one of my favorite books. This
I've heard just it kind of ruins it for people and is not that good, so I don't
want to ruin it for myself so I'm just gonna get rid of it. The next one is a
book that I think I picked up around a lot of the booktube hype for it and when I was
getting into booktube and I was just kind of buying everything that was popula,r and
that is An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. I actually filmed a try a chapter tag
ages ago, I didn't ever upload it, I don't know why. But i read the first chapter of this and
it was alright but it wasn't that good to be honest. I just don't think I'm going to
like it that much or enjoy it that much and I don't see when
I'm going to around to this in the near future so I'm going to get rid of it. The
next book is actually a book I really really love but I just have a duplicate
copy and I don't see the point of having a duplicate copy of it and that is One
by Sarah Crossan. I read this at the end of last year, really really liked it,
for some reason I've ended up with two copies of it and there is no point in me
having two copies of this book so I'm going to get rid of it.
The next book is a book that at the time I read it I really liked it but I
didn't see a lot of its problematic content and that is Lies We Tell Ourselves
by Robin Talley. I will leave links down below to people who've explained why
this book is very problematic. So I just don't feel comfortable having this on my
shelf, it's got a lot of water damage, I'm never going to reread it so gonna
get rid of it. The next book is a book that for the most part, there's a lot of these books
in this pile, like I don't hate them, I just didn't really like them enough to
justify keeping them. And that is a Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver. I liked
it, I think I gave it like 3.5 stars but it wasn't anything special and I'm never
going to reread it so i don't see the point in having it on my shelf. The next two books
are both in a series and again I liked this series but I just don't see the
point in keeping it because I'm never going to read the last book, I'm never
going to reread these books and it's just taking up space. So that is Snow Like Ashes
and Ice Like Fire by Sara Raasch. This is a YA fantasy series, I liked it but I'm
never gonna finish it so there's no point in me keeping them. Then we also
have Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. I read
this I think like four years ago and it was alright but I really didn't care for it that
much so don't see the point in keeping it. Next we have a book that my uni
actually gave all of the students when we moved in on our welcome week and that
is In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. I'm never gonna read this book this is never a book I
would have picked up off my own accord. I didn't pay for it so I don't feel that bad
about getting rid of it. Then I've got another middle grade book that I just did not
connect to and that was Shadow Magic by Joshua Khan. This was sent to me
for review but I just could not get through it. I just didn't connect to it
at all and this is when I was still figuring out my issue with middle grade novels, by the
way, I wasn't really sure if it was an issue with middle grade or not. But this book definitely
helped me figure out that I just don't connect to middle grade very much so yeah
there is just no point in me keeping this and hopefully this can go to a child or
adult that will really enjoy it. Next is another book I picked up I think
just when there was a lot of hype and I was getting into booktube and I was buying
all the really popular series and that is Red Rising by Pierce brown.
I've since read lots of reviews of this book and even the positive ones I'm like
'that doesn't sound like my kind of thing', I don't really want to read that so there's no
point in me having it. The next book is a book that has had some controversy and
that is Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. This book has been called out for a lot of
problematic elements, I will leave again links down below if you're interested in
learning more about that. This has been called out a lot, I got it at YALC
last year before all that kind of had come up. I bought it upon recommendation,
I don't really know if I would've to bought it by myself
anyway and with all that stuff coming out I just know I'm never going to get round
to it so I'm going to get rid of it. So then we have Way Down Dark by J.P Smythe.
Again I liked this book but I am not going to continue with the series and I
don't see the point in keeping it. Next we have a book that I did not like that I
read las year and that was Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K Rowling, John Tiffany and
Jack Thorne. I haven't seen the play because I don't live in London anymore and I can't
afford that. I read it, I think that the plot is really really weak, I'm sure the
play is fantastic. I'm sure if you watch it with all the
special effects and the acting and stuff that it's amazing, but if you just read
the script I honestly think it's really really weak. I'm not here for the
queerbaiting it's just not not my thing so I don't see the point in keeping this. I
think my family has a copy as well so like if I'm really, if my mind changes, my
family has a copy so it's fine. Then we have a book, and I really don't know how
I like got this book, how I heard about it like, why I got it, when I got it? I
don't have a clue! And that is The First Time She Drowned by Kerry Kletter. I literally
don't know how I heard about this book, I don't know how I got it and I don't
really know it's about. But I also did this in the try-a-chapter tag that I never
uploaded. And again it was fine, but I don't really see when I'm going to
read this so just going to get rid of it. Then we have a book that I've talked a lot
about on this channel that I don't like and that is The Wrath and the Dawn by
Renee Adieh. I will leave my unpopular opinions video linked on the screen if
you'd like to know why I don't like this book. But yeah I really don't like this, don't see
the point in keeping it because it is very pretty but it kind of just makes me
angry when I look at it. So I'm just gonna get rid of it.
The next one I received in a subscription box and I knew when I got
it that it wasn't my kind of thing. So I'm finally biting the bullet and getting
rid of it. And that is Inherited by Freedom Matthews. I got this in a fairyloot
box I think like in June or July last year and it's about pirates and love,
like forbidden love. It's just not my thing at all, I'm sure it's somebody else's. I
just, I'm never going to read it. And then the last one from my definitely-going-to
get-rid-of-pile is one that is controversial but I'm going to do it.
And that is Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. I've never read a Sarah J Maas book,
I feel like I'm one of the only people in the book community who hasn't. I just got into
booktube I think, well as there was hype but as things started to get called out for
being problematic and I just didn't get to it before that and blah blah blah. This
series just doesn't sound like my thing. To be
honest, it's one of those things again what I bought it because of the hype not
the premise and when I look at the premise and when I've heard about
reviews of like what is in this book, it does not sound like my kind of thing. And I
know from watching spoilery reviews of later books in series it does not go in a
direction that interests me at all. So there's no point in me having
this. That's my personal decision, if you like her books that's cool, I'm not
attacking you. You like what you like, her books just don't interest me. Okay now we have a small selection of books that I am definitely considering keeping and I'm
very willing to hear the case for. So if you've read any of these books
and you really really like them and want to convince me to keep them, feel free to
down in the comments. So the first of those is The Forbidden Wish by Jessica
Khoury. I got this again in a fairyloot box and I was really excited when I got it
and I just didn't read it for a while and now I just don't know if I would ever
get to it. I did try this again in the try-a-chapter tag and honestly the first
chapter was not very impressive, in fact I think it was one of the ones I liked the
least. But if you have read this and you think it gets better or you really
like it again feel free to tell me. The next one is Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin.
I won this in a giveaway I think of a few books and this is about a girl who I
think dies and it's about her in the afterlife. I just again don't know when
I'm going to get to this, it's not so much that the plot doesn't interest me, it does,
but I just don't really see myself reading this anytime soon. The next one
is a book that is a classic and a lot of people I think read as children or
teenagers and really loved and that is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I
have never read Little Women, I've never watched any adaptation and I just don't
know again if I ever am going to get to this in the near future but if you do
really love it please do tell me I'm very willing to be convinced. The next
one is a book that I think I'd heard of on a few people channels and it won the
Man Booker Prize in 2014 and that is The Narrow Road to the Deep North by
Richard Flanagan. So this is set in world war two but it is set in a different part of
a lot I think in Burma which is something I've not really read about and
again I just don't know when I'm going to get this. If you've read it please tell
me if you liked it or not I would really love to know. Then we have The Death
House by Sarah Pinborough. I was almost definitely going to get rid of this and then I
recently went to a blogger evening with the publisher of this book and they kind of
reconvinced me that maybe I should keep it but I just, I don't know, I don't know when I'm
going to read it, I've had it for ages. So if you have read this, let me know what
you thought. And then finally a book that I know a lot of people love, again it''s just I don't know when
I'm going to get to it, it is middle grade so I am hesitant. And that is Wonder by
RJ Palacio. I know people love this book but I also know that I'm pretty sure I
saw something on Jen Campbell's channel about this book that was critical so I
need to look more into that. If you have read this let me know what you think, I would
be really interested. So yeah guys that was my first ever unhaul video, I
hope you enjoyed it. I know I really enjoy watching these. Like I said if you
have read any of the books that I mentioned towards the end of this video
that I am considering keeping and you want to make a case for it, please do let
me know in the comments below. And let me know what any of your thoughts on any of
these books were, I would really be interested. And I will speak to you guys
soon in another video. Bye!
