LOOK AT ART
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
This exhibition is very beautiful.
It overwhelms you, immediately when you enter.
A lot of paintings.
Sometimes, you just want to enter the painting.
To get even closer, and see more. But ofcourse that's not possible, because it's flat.
So many different paintings and different themes.
But everyone looks at it in a different way.
Art that is only beautiful, doesn't interest me. I like art to be a bit edgy.
The wisdom and the grandeur of nature is highlighted.
The magistral, but also the gloomy.
Trees and mountains that almost scare you.
You expect a thunder god somewhere coming from the sky.
Those clouds that you see, those mountains that you see. These are not static images.
The water that comes thundering down. You can almost hear it!
The wind blowing through the trees. Those trees are completely crooked.
With gnarled branches and overflowing in leaves.
Sometimes I get the feeling: did trees grow differently in the past?
They are so winding and have so many knots. I've got the impression that nowadays trees grow straight up.
It evokes strong feelings. And yes, you can immerse yourself in it.
There is played with light quite a lot: certain things are highlighted that catches your eye first.
But after that you think: oh but there I see something else to see! And that is really cool.
And as soon as you focus more, like on this lady.
You discover that there is a child next to her. And a dog. And there you see branches.
Each time you look at it, you see more elements, whereby you can make your own story.
This is a painting and there are vultures and also ice.
Trees and snow.
And high mountains and also grass.
That they just left the castle.
And that they are on their way to collect food and drinking water.
That the mother shows her son how he should arrange these things for when he's older.
And also trees that have fallen on the ice.
And also overturned trees, such as those and those. You see that, right?
But before I really take that in, I see some strange spots on a rock.
And then I think: "Hey, what's that? What's going on here?"
Then I am distracted again, I get some thoughts, associations.
Yes, that is the game the painting plays with me.
And that happens a lot sooner than getting overwhelmed. Yes, it takes someone very special to make that happen!
I think vultures, maybe searching for food or something.
Mice. In the forest. Overthere.
Very nice painting. It is the most beautiful painting I have ever seen.
Ofcourse these paintings are very suitable for triggering your fantasy
These are landscapes that you would want to walk around in.
Yes I would love to enter this painting and take that walk. Maybe even all around the lake.
Well that's a nice evening walk. Someone on my arm, or me on someone else's arm. That is even more fun.
The beauty of this is that it really reminds me of putting on warm clothes in the morning.
Thick sweater, thick coat. Scarf, gloves and to get going.
That is something I really miss since living in the city.
If you look at nature, you see a lot of space. No buildings, no people, no noise.
And I think it's also soothing. You see for instance a wild painting with wild nature.
And then there's another one with a sunset or sunrise. And I think that's very calming.
It relaxes me to walk and to be in nature, to clear your head for a moment.
I think that there you don't think so much. That you are not continuously stimulated by everything around you.
Which happens quite a lot around us now.
These landscapes aren't cute, there is nothing sweet about it.
You just can't turn away from it.
That is experiencing the creator: God in his greatness, but also in his cruelty.
Yes. Also a cruel God. Nature is not kind.
This is a catastrophy, isn't it?
That people try to help each other and survive.
It reminds me of the difficult time when I tried to cross the sea from Turkey to Greece.
Yes, this is a very intense memory.
And then I saw the painting and then I thought "Ah, is it here again?"
But if you look further, there is also the sun. The sun is shining and that means that there is hope and also that it will be okay.
And that everything will be better.
That is not a contradiction,
that beauty can't also be cruel.
And I ... but of course, that's not allowed.
I always have the urge to quickly feel it with my finger.
But then I will be kicked out.
It looks like a photo.
This is early morning light, I think. It is not a setting sun. I think.
I mean, those little leaves look like there stuck on it, but it really is painted on.
Yes, in terms of atmosphere, this one suits me very well.
It still works across two centuries.
Yes, I like this. This kind of art.
