Chikesia Clemons: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

A video capturing the arrest of a 25-year-old black female, Chikesia Clemons, inside of a Waffle House on Industrial Parkway in Saraland, Alabama, has gone viral and sparked a national outrage.

Clemons, of Mobile, Alabama, was arrested April 22 after asking for plastic utensils while placing an order at the Waffle House on Industrial Parkway.

The disturbing footage shows the woman on the ground with her breasts exposed as an officer threatens to break her arm.

Earlier this month, two black men were arrested after waiting for a friend at a Starbucks in Philadelphia, and the incidents have caused an uproar in regards to how people of color are treated in public settings.

Heavy spoke with a friend and stylist of Clemons, who described her as a hard-working, dedicated and loving mother.

The Outrageous Incident Took Place After She Was Told There Was a Fee for Cutlery.

The cellphone video was captured by Clemons' friend, Canita Adams, according to AL.

com, and the entire incident allegedly took place over cutlery that she was asked to pay for when ordering.

com reported: "Clemons asked for plastic utensils while placing an order at the Waffle House on Industrial Parkway in Saraland early Sunday morning, and was told by a female employee that plasticware costs 50 cents, according to Clemons-Howard.

After three officers briefly speak with Clemons, who is visibly and understandably shaken, the footage shows police officers pulling the woman off of a chair and pinning her to the floor of the restaurant.

An Officer Threatened to Break Her Arm in the Video, & Clemons' Breasts Were Exposed in Front of Other Patrons.

"What are you doing?" Clemons asked the officers at one point during the encounter, to which an officer responds, "I'll break your arm, that's what I'm about to do.

As the woman was being wrestled to the ground to be arrested, the video showed Clemons' top come down, exposing her breasts for anyone dining in the background to see.

Saraland Police Department released the following statement via their Facebook page:.

The Saraland Police Department is aware of the arrest at Waffle House and the accompanying video on social media.

The situation is being thoroughly reviewed and is under active investigation right now.

Our department strives for transparency and we encourage our community to be aware of current events.

Saraland's public safety director, Chief J.

West, and the mayor are aware of the situation and are awaiting the results of the investigation.

When the facts of the investigation are gathered, we will have a response.

The woman was arrested at approximately 2:45 a.m.

on charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

She Was Described as a Hard-Working, Classy Mother.

Clemons was described by her friend and stylist as a hardworking and "wonderful, classy woman who loves being a mother.

"She never deserved that treatment.

It is disgusting," Brandon Tartt told Heavy.

"If you aren't going to get utensils with your food, then how are you going to eat? It's common knowledge that everyone gets utensils to use with their food at the Waffle House or any other restaurant, and it shouldn't matter who you are or what you look like.".

Tartt continued:.

She's a good, quiet girl.

By all means Chikesia is classy, very classy at that.

She is a hardworking mother.

People need to understand, if this was your child, how would you feel? I could see if she was fighting or anything else, but she did absolutely nothing wrong.

She is innocent.

She has a wonderful mother, that woman raised her to be a respectful woman and a lady.

Chikesia came from a good home and a great church-going family.

Her mother has always been by her side, by all of her children's sides.

She is her number one supporter in this matter.

She graduated from school and she works very hard as a mother.

It is just the type of person that she is.

Tartt added that Clemons is not speaking with media at the advice of her attorney.

A Protest Was Held Outside of the Waffle House Location in Support of Clemons.

"Tackled, harmed and exposed all because of the color of her skin!," @NAACP tweeted.

"#ChikesiaClemons deserves fair treatment just as well as anyone else and should be able to dine without being racially profiled.

When will it stop?".

Recent Events Involving People of Color Have Many Shocked & Outraged.

Clemons' arrest happened only weeks after two black men were asked to leave a Philadelphia Starbucks as they said they were waiting for a friend, which was also caught on video and caused national outrage.

You can watch the footage by clicking here.

The arrest of Clemons occurred on the same day as a shooting which killed four people of color at a Waffle House in Nashville, Tennessee.

What Is the Incel Movement? 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Screengrab via YouTube The 2014 Isla Vista shooter Elliot Rodger.

An apparent social media posting has linked the man accused of killing ten people with a van in Toronto with a controversial celibacy movement.

On April 23, ten people were killed and 16 others injured when a man driving a white van drove into a crowd in North York, Toronto.

Alek Minassian, 25, was arrested at the scene.

Shortly after Minassian's name was made public, a Facebook post spread online that was apparently written by the suspect.

The posting read, "Private (Recruit) Minassian Infantry 00010, wishing to speak to Sgt.

4chan please. C23249161.

The Incel Rebellion has already begun! We will overthrow all the Chads and Stacys! All hail the Supreme Gentleman Elliot Rodger!" The posting has not been confirmed as legitimate.

It was posted on the same day as the van incident.

The writing makes reference to Elliot Rodger.

In May 2014, Rodger, 22, shot and killed six people while injuring 14 others before committing suicide close to the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Prior to his rampage, Rodger posted a video on YouTube titled, "Elliot Rodger's Retribution." Rodger made the claims that he was killing women because he was a virgin and was targeting sexually active men.

As a result, Rodger was considered a member of the Incel Movement, a movement for people who feel they are victims of enforced celibacy.

Here's what you need to know:.

A Subreddit for the Incel Movement Was Removed in 2017 Due to Gross Misogyny.

The Guardian reported in November 2017 that Reddit had banned a subreddit named, Incels.

At the time it was removed, there were over 40,000 members of the page.

A common theme on those Reddit pages were "Chads," men who have casual sex with women.

A Change.

org petition that spread in the summer of 2017 accused the group of advocating rape with titles of pages on subreddit including, "All women are sluts" and "Reasons why women are the embodiment of evil.

The Guardian report adds that users on the subreddit who were viewed as too friendly to women were warned and subsequently banned if their behavior didn't degenerate.

Women were commonly referred to as "Femoids" on the page.

Many Incel Movement Reddit Users Were Also Active on Alt-Right Pages.

According to a study from Grinnell College on the Incel Movement, another common name for women on the site is "Stacy." The study reads, "The female counterpart of a Chad is called a "Stacy," and she is viewed as unattainable.

Incels talk about Chads in a reverent way, while talking about Stacies in a hateful way.

They strive to be Chads, but demean the Stacies Chad is allegedly having sex with.".

The Grinnell study adds that many in the Incel Movement subreddit were also active in alt-right pages such as "The Red Pill," "Mens Rights" and "Men Going Their Own Way." A Quartz piece included words such as "femoids" and "Chad" as being part of a new alt-right dictionary.

That same article mentions that some on the subreddit referred to Elliot Rodger as "Saint Elliot" because he "martyred" himself for the Incel cause.

Despite the Misogyny, the Incel Movement Was Started by a Woman.

Despite the misogyny associated with the group, it was a woman who says she started the movement.

A Canadian woman named Alana told Elle Magazine in March 2016 that she started the Incel Movement in 1993.

Alana said that after thinking she was heterosexual but then dating and breaking up with a woman, she wanted to try "to create a movement that was open to anybody and everybody.".

Alana then built an early website named, "Alana's Involuntary Celibacy Project." Alana said that the page was populated with stories from women but mainly men.

The article says that the men "were prone to antagonistic, repetitive complaining, she truly wanted her project to be a home for all incels; rigid gender norms, she thought, burdened every- one.".

When Alana learned of Elliot Rodger's connection to the movement, she told Elle about her thoughts, "Like a scientist who invented something that ended up being a weapon of war, I can't uninvent this word, nor restrict it to the nicer people who need it.

One Incel Activist Believes that the Members of the Movement Should Be Viewed as a Gender.

A former site admin for IncelSupport, Rebecca Freeman, wrote on Quora that the group is "not a movement; we have never protested or made any request for rights — or anything like that.

We do not much resemble the stereotypes and tropes many feminist groups like to use against us.".

Freeman added that "likely some biological cause.

Therefore, I think we should be viewed as a type of gender." In her conclusion, Freeman wrote, "It's worth remembering that Adolf Hitler had a partner.

So did many well known serial killers and rapists.

They were not dangerous because of sexual frustration or an inability to fit in.

They were simply evil people.".

'There Is Not That Much Difference' Between Incels & Those Who Are Just Love-Shy.

A website named Love-Shy.

com, offers "support for the dating-challenged.

" In an FAQ section to help users determine if they are incels or love shy, a passage reads, "The suffering of incels is often the same as those of love-shys.

" The difference, according to that section, is that incel people view themselves as being further away from the social mainstream.

Another passage reads, " It is possible for a person to be both incel and love-shy, and most are both, and most are both to some degree or another.

For instance, a person could originally be incel, then suffer large numbers of turn downs, and eventually become love-shy and unable to approach.".

In this video, I will discuss the first episode of season 2 of Wesworld.

So stay tuned for that...

Hello Everyone.

This video is sponsored by Alina and Aaron.

Thank you so much for your contributions.

Before we get to season 2, let's take a quick look at what happened in season 1.

The Man in Black aka William was looking for a maze to free the hosts.

In the past, Robert Ford wanted to open the park but his partner Arnold didn't.

Arnold initiated a plan to destroy the park.

He merged another character named Wyatt into Dolores.

He made Dolores and Teddy destroy all the hosts.

Upon using reveries, Arnold also enabled Dolores to kill humans.

He used the voice command "These violent delights have violent ends," And Dolores

killed Arnold.

Arnold almost succeeded in his plans but Ford found a new investor William to keep the park

going.

After that Ford tried to fulfil Arnold's dream of freeing the hosts.

In the end, Dolores solved the maze and freed herself.

The board forced Ford to retire after introducing his new narrative "journey into the Night."

This story is based on Arnold.

Ford says, "It begins in a time of war with a villain named Wyatt and a killing.

This time by choice."

Which means last time, Dolores had no choice when she killed Arnold and the other hosts,

but this time, she will kill Ford and the guests in the park by her own choice.

Ford said this will be his final Story.

Now let's come back to season 2.

The first episode is named "Journey into Night," which means as I have mentioned

in my previous videos already, this season will be all about Dolores and the hosts waging

war against the humans and eventually getting their freedom.

The episode begins with Bernard waking up on the shore of an island 2 weeks after the

incidents of the gala.

Karl says communications has been down for 2 weeks.

Just like season 1, season 2 also shows scenes from past and the present together.

It won't be in chronological order, so it's hard to figure out which scene is from the

past and which one is from the present most of the time.

In the past scene, Arnold tells Dolores he saw a dream where he was on the shore of an

ocean and Dolores had left him behind.

In the present, Bernard sees a series of flashback scenes of what happened between the events

of the Gala and till waking up on the shore.

These are probably his memories.

He sees Dolores in this dream, which would mean that Bernard had already met and talked

with her.

In the dream, she said, "It's been some time Bernard," "You don't know who you

are," & "There's beauty in what we are etc."

You can also see Bernard firing a gun in his dream.

Another proof that Bernard has met with Dolores before is that when Lee and Maeve arrive in

the control room, they find all the employees dead, but Bernard remembers them being killed

in his dream before he wakes up on the shore.

Maybe he killed some Delos employees too.

Bernard seems so conflicted when he wakes up.

He is definitely not happy at the way the Delos employees are killing all the hosts.

He knows he is a host too.

But when they find all the hosts bodies dumped in the sea, he says he was the one who killed

them and dumped them in the sea.

Teddy's body was there too but I don't think Dolores was dead.

It's hard to see Dolores letting Bernard kill Teddy, but Teddy was uncomfortable with

all the killings.

Who knows, maybe he will try to stop Dolores?

What if Dolores was the one who killed them and Bernard was covering for her?

We already saw Dolores killing the hosts she thought "Didn't deserve to make it to

the Valley Beyond."

What does that even mean BTW?

My guess is, it means the outside world.

And I think that the hosts will make it to the Valley beyond at the end of season 3 aka,

they will go into the outside world.

Season 3 could be all about that.

That could also be the reason why Bernard or Dolores killed all those hosts?

It might be a part of their plan to leave Westworld.

By making Delos think that they are all dead and only taking a few selected hosts who are

ready to leave.

But they will have to delete all of Delos data for this plan to succeed.

I think Dolores sent Bernard to the beach on purpose so that Delos could find him and

will take him with them and he could spy on the management or try to destroy all the data

about the hosts?

Stubbs had recognized him and scolded one of his team members by saying "You're

gonna shoot the boss?"

Charlotte also trusts Bernard.

No one suspects him because he has always been there with the management.

That's probably why Robert planted him there in the first place, to give the hosts an edge.

Bernard's DNA was also checked out and he was allowed to enter.

Everything is still happening according to Ford's plan.

This is what he had wanted.

They also created some drones who are studying guest's experience and DNA.

But why would they do that?

Were they planning to do something bigger with the hosts just like I had discussed in

my season 1 videos?

Like sell them to be used as spies etc.?

That could be why they could need the guest experiences data.

To see how they reacted to the hosts.

What do you think?

We also saw Dolores smiling at Bernard in the dream.

Dolores is wearing a modern dress in that scene, which means she will eventually make

it to the headquarters and will change her dress, probably before leaving Westworld.

He also met with Peter Abernathy.

In the flashback, Charlotte had asked Bernard to locate Peter.

It looks like he will find him soon either for Charlotte or Dolores.

And where did that sea come from?

It wasn't there before.

They were all shocked to see it.

Where do you think it came from?

As for Dolores, she was such a badass in this episode.

She remembers everything now.

ALL of her roles, which also include being Wyatt, and Wyatt was very dangerous.

She draws her strength from that role.

As I said in my trailer review videos before, she does seem like the leader of this uprising.

She has accepted her role as Wyatt and all of Wyatt's men are still following her orders.

They killed many members of the board.

Teddy doesn't seem happy with all this slaughtering.

I hope that's not the reason why he is lying dead in the sea.

Dolores is punishing the guests for killing them.

Teddy is not happy with all the bloodshed but Dolores said they didn't give them a

choice.

As she has said, "That reckoning is here."

As for Maeve, in my season 1 episode 10 review, I said that a third party was manipulating

Maeve to leave the park.

It wasn't Charlotte because she had ordered Lee to take Peter Abernethy out.

I hope we would find out who was behind Maeve wanting to escape in season 1.

But she showed free will by coming back for her daughter.

She recruited Hector and Lee Sizemore in her search team.

It seems like she can control all the hosts now.

She didn't even need any particular phrase to stop that host from eating Lee.

It seems all the hosts follow her voice commands.

Charlotte thinks Ford had programmed all this, that he programmed Dolores to blow his brains

out because he didn't take his ouster well.

She didn't believe Bernard when he said Dolores might have acted of her own free will.

She can't leave the park because "They" were expecting Charlotte to deliver a host

to the mainland but she couldn't deliver, so she can't leave.

She has uploaded 35 years of data to Peter Abernathy.

That's why she needs Bernard to find him.

The Man in black aka William is quite happy now that the game is real.

He killed Ford's host too.

But before he was killed, Robert told William that William is in his game now.

Now he has to find the door to make it back out.

He says the game is meant for William and the game will find him.

He said, the "Game begins where you end, and ends where you begun."

It seems like a riddle.

If I had to guess, I would say that where William ends is the place where William first

became the man in black aka when he lost Dolores and decided to free the hosts.

And this will be the same place where he ends too, which means, William ended and the man

in black was formed.

Where he ended, that's where he also begun.

Does this make any sense to you?

Anyways, I think Robert was pointing towards Dolores.

After all, she was the only reason William changed so much.

Does this mean Dolores will be his way out?

Or maybe he will be the one to get Dolores out of the park?

What is this Door he needs to find?

I doubt it would simply be a literal door.

What do you think?

Anyways, that was all for today's review.

It's time for the comment shoutout now.

Todays comment shoutout goes to LEPhant5, who said, "Absolutely fabulous video.

Episode 5 was really great.

This is more addicting than Game of Thrones.

I think it's because we can't go to the books to know what is cannon."

Thanks a lot LEPhant5.

I love westworld too, but for reason, game of thrones will always remain my most favourite

TV Show.

Maybe it's because of the books I have read.

Alek Minassian: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | SML TV - Duration: 12:26.

Alek Minassian: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Alek Minassian, 25, has been identified as the person arrested on suspicion of driving a white Ryder van into a crowd of pedestrians in Toronto, killing multiple people.

Witnesses said the driver was traveling fast when he jumped a curb and hit "everything in his path." When police arrested him after he fled the scene, he approached them with what appeared to be a gun in his hand.

The motive in the crash is not yet known, but early reports indicate the driver hit the pedestrians deliberately.

During a press conference this evening, the Toronto Police chief spelled the suspect's name as "Alex Minassian.

" But the Toronto Police quickly confirmed on Twitter that the name had been misspelled and the suspect is, indeed, Alek Minassian.

One witness said that someone was dragged behind the car, and others said the driver even drove onto the sidewalk twice.

Officials are not sure what the motive for the attack was, but are investigating mental illness.

Minassian lives in Richmond Hill, north of Toronto.

During a press conference, officials shared that 10 people died.

Here's what you need to know about Alek Minassian.

This is a developing story.

Minassian Was Known to Law Enforcement and May Have Previously Researched Killings in Isla Vista, California.

Alek Minassian is the suspect who was arrested in connection with the horrific crash that killed 10 people, law enforcement officials have said.

He is 25 years old.

The suspect was previously known to law enforcement in Toronto, CNN reported.

However, Toronto police said during a press conference that Minassian was not previously known to them.

They said their was nothing in their files connected to Minassian.

CBS sources later confirmed the photo of Minassian, as seen in the LinkedIn profile above.

According to his LinkedIn, Minassian was a student at Seneca College in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada.

Jonathan Dienst of NBC News reported that Minassian had allegedly researched and chatted online about the Isla Vista killings in California in 2014.

The Isla Vista massacre occurred when 22-year-old Elliot Rodger killed six people and injured 14.

He stabbed three men in his apartment, and then drove to a sorority house and shot three female students outside.

Then Rodger drove to a deli and shot a male student, and then began driving through the city, shooting pedestrians and hitting some with his car.

He was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Tom Winter of NBC News confirmed the report about Minassian's searching the Isla Vista massacre, saying that the report came from U.S.

and Canadian law enforcement officials and was not based on any online postings.

Toronto police confirmed that 10 people died after a white van struck a crowd of people at Yonge Street and Finch Avenue East around 1:30 p.m.

on Monday, April 23.

The van was traveling southbound and mounted the curb, hitting numerous people who were on the sidewalk, CTV News reported. Witnesses said the man drove onto the sidewalk multiple times.

Ali Shaker, who witnessed the crash, said the driver hit someone with a stroller, CTV reported.

"He just destroyed so many people's lives; every single thing that got in his way," Shaker said.

Police said that 16 other people were injured in the attack.

This is a busy area north of downtown Toronto.

Yonge Street is one of the main thoroughfares in Toronto.

Minassian, 25, Was Arrested after Fleeing the Scene and Then Pulling What Looked Like a Gun on Police.

Witnesses said the vehicle drove up to a half-mile to a mile while it was hitting people, CNN reported.

The driver of the van fled the scene and residents were urged to avoid the area.

Subway service in that area was suspended.

Minassian, 25, was later arrested, according to CBS News.

You can see a video of Minassian's arrest below.

The suspect was arrested just moments after a white van hit multiple pedestrians.

Peter Akman with CTV National News said that it looked like he pulled a gun on the police, but he was arrested without any shots being fired.

The police officers who arrested Minassian are being hailed as heroes.

Despite holding what appeared to be a gun, Minassian was not shot by the officers.

During a press conference, the police chief confirmed that Minassian was not found with a gun.

He said the officers' training emphasizes avoiding violence.

My favourite game is Halo 3 because it has matchmaking.

My next favourite is ODST because Firefight is awesome! Halo Wars has matchmaking but I'm better at FPSs than RTSs.

Halo 2 is a nice game even though Xbox Live Original has been discontinued.

Good thing I downloaded all the maps! I also like Halo: CE because it is an EPIC classic.

I also can't wait for the release of Halo: Reach on September 14!".

Can't Get Enough feat. Monkey Majik - BTS Behind the Song - Duration: 5:33.

Can't get enough is a really special song to me because I got to write this with Monkey Majik.

Monkey magic are one of my favorite bands.

When I was first in Japan back in 2005 or six,

and I was talking to these different labels, and I was listening to all this Japanese music,

I was trying to find

Something or some band that I was similar to that I sounded like and I couldn't really find anything until I came across

MONKEY MAJIK

And their music was so cool and so creative and upbeat,

Had these really great melodies.

And they were doing this thing in both Japanese and English, you know, this

Mix of like Canadians and Japanese guys in the band.

I just fell in love with their music.

You know I was really struggling to find a record label that

Believed in me and felt like they could market

My music and and take it out into the world all these record labels were saying I was too old or

That I didn't sing in Japanese enough.

And there was just a lot of, you know, pressure that I couldn't do anything about.

And I just wanted to be me.

But then one day I met with the head of this label, who

Set me down, gave me a bunch of Monkey Majik records, and said,

"This is the band that I'm working with right now.

"I would love to work with you," and like "WHAT!?"

Yes! So I was super excited and said, "Oh my goodness! If you're woking with those guys,

"And I feel like they're the only band right now that I can relate to, I would love to work with you."

So that was an amazing moment for me.

And it was it was a wonderful experience getting to work with that record label.

And to this day, even though I'm not with them anymore, I still love those guys.

And I still love Monkey Majik.

And so it was a dream-come-true when ten years later

I saw them at a concert in Japan in one of our Japan tours,

I had dinner with them after it and said,

"You know It's been my dream to write with you."

And they said, "Well we're going to New Zealand to record our next album.

"You're from New Zealand. Why don't you come down and we'll spend a day writing?"

"I'll do it!"

So I went to see my family and I went to write with Monkey Majik!

We spent a day writing a song and then the very next day we played it at this shot at this concert.

They kindly recorded their parts for me.

We went back and forth and

Two years later now they're finally on this album, and it's like a dream-come-true.

I'm so stoked with this song. I hope you'll like it, too.

It's been so long,

Running out of time you know I need your love

Feelings haven't changed and now we're all grown up

Even though you're far away I just can't get you off my mind

I'm reaching out,

I want to hold you close but don't know where you are

I look for a way but this map is leading nowhere

So I run in circles, hoping one day you'll come back to me

Pictures may fade but they don't in my mind

I'm not afraid I'll get by

You are the highest highs and lowest of lows

But I am stuck on you and when I say hello

I don't know, what that will provoke

But I can't get enough of your love your love

I can't get enough

Propel Change | Donna Griggs | Is Your Continuous Improvement Really Continuous? - Duration: 6:21.

- Hi, I'm Donna Griggs, the CEO of Propel Change.

If you have a continuous improvement program,

my question to you today is is it really continuous?

(energetic music)

(alarm rings)

So I was talking with Steve, who's a VP of Operations.

We were having a cup of coffee,

and he (laughs) was telling me

all about his continuous improvement woes.

Some of the things that he was complaining

about is what I hear a lot.

First of all, we're spending tons of money on consultants.

We're actually doing a few projects, but not that many,

'cause our people who are on the projects,

they just don't have a lot of time.

Sometimes projects get canceled

because our resources get pulled to other things.

It's really difficult.

It just doesn't seem like it's working very well.

So I wanna tell you a little bit about our secret formula

for our continuous improvement program.

The very first thing we do is get leadership buy-in

and show them how to be visible in the project,

which is actually we ask them to be a coach in the project

and remove barriers when people are having trouble.

Second, you have to be careful that you have consultants

that wanna make you their career.

So in our secret formula, what we do to get around that is

we teach a lot of people how to train it,

and then they can go in and train it in your company,

your own employees.

Third, you want front line involvement.

What we find is sometimes managers are in these projects.

We have a manager in the project,

they don't know everything about what happens.

As a result, even though they may have more flexible time,

they're not necessarily the best person to figure out

what to do because they don't know everything.

Another item that we really stress is small projects.

If you have frontline people

and they're doing great big projects,

first of all, they don't like it.

That's not fun for them.

They are normally task-based people.

Task-based people like projects.

Ours, we say, "Make sure it can be completed

"once it's implemented somewhere

"between one hour and two weeks."

So I'm talking small projects.

It gives those people a way to learn and then to actually,

if there's a risk issue, it's not gonna be on this project.

They're very low risk.

The next thing we do is we teach them something,

then they immediately apply it.

It's not a bootcamp where for five days you go in,

you learn everything there is, you go back to your office,

and you go, "Ah, I'm not really sure

"what I'm gonna do about this."

Not that those are bad, but we also know

that from an adult learning perspective,

the second I learn something, if I can use it right then

on my projects in my organization,

makes a world of difference.

One of the places that makes the most difference is

if you teach people how to figure out

what the cost savings are.

It's amazing how quickly that project becomes theirs.

When you teach them how to calculate

what the direct and indirect savings,

what's ringing the cash register,

and then also what kind of things are saving us time

so that we can be doing things

that we weren't able to do before?

It just makes a huge difference in their buy-in.

Another item is accountability for completion.

The number of times that I've heard, (chuckles)

"We've never completed a project here at this organization,"

astounds me, astounds me.

So when you have accountability

for getting projects completed,

but not only that, saying, "And what's your next project?",

that gets people in the mindset

of continuous improvement really is continuous.

Last, make absolutely sure that you have celebrations,

because when you celebrate success,

it gives people this little oomph that they need

to go do one more project, and they find it fun.

The number of times that I have been told,

"I didn't think this would be fun,

"and now I look forward to what my next project is,"

is just amazing.

So if you have a continuous improvement program

and it's really not doing what you think it should be,

ask some questions.

Number one, is your leadership engaged?

'Cause if your leadership isn't engaged,

you're never gonna get where you wanna go.

And are they visibly engaged?

Are they helping people to make sure

that they know what they're supposed to be doing?

Number two, are all of your projects linked

to your company goals?

Because if they're not, I will guarantee you

that some of those projects are going away,

which then leads to the syndrome of, hey, (chuckles)

we've never actually completed a project around here.

Ask yourself, are the right people on the projects?

The way you resource projects has a lot to do

with how successful they are.

If you have a bunch of leaders completing a project

that should be frontline people

because the leaders want the experience doing it,

you're gonna not get the same results.

Make sure you bring those frontline people

in on the projects.

Another thing you've gotta look at is accountability.

Do you have the right accountability in place?

Are you holding people responsible for completing a project?

It was really interesting,

I had a client one time that said to somebody,

"No, you have to get this done by this time."

It was one of the continuous improvement projects.

And he said, "Yeah, but I'm really busy."

He said, "I need your commitment that you will get it done."

And just because of that, I had leadership engagement,

projects linked to the company goals,

the right people on it, and accountability.

It was amazing.

Make sure you're celebrating.

And make sure most of all that the efforts

that you put into your continuous improvement program,

you actually can continue.

There's a lot of great continuous improvement programs

out there and every one of them could work,

but what's really key is to make sure

you have the leadership involvement, you stay the course,

and the accountability is there.
