Should You Delete Your Facebook Account? - Duration: 5:51.
#DeleteFacebook what's that all about what's up guys welcome back to
matters of life and tech today we're gonna talk about a story that's been all over
the news and that's the story about Facebook and
Cambridge Analytica and all of our facebook data so case you haven't heard
here's a quick recap about 87 million Facebook users had their data used
without their explicit consent by a company called Cambridge analytica and
that data was used to create targeted ads and messages that impacted the 2016
election in my opinion the biggest issue in this whole thing was that at the time
only 270,000 of the users actually consented to have their data be used but
because of a loophole in how Facebook shared data back then all of those 270,000
people's friends also had their data able to be taken by Cambridge
Analytica so how that happened is that you know on Facebook you have those
surveys that you take which are like what Michael Jackson's song are you what
Game of Thrones character matches your aura
what month of the year are you what exactly so what happens when you take
those surveys yes that company is getting information about you based on
the answers that you're providing well you're also consenting to allow them to
get all the data on your Facebook profile maybe not all the data it
depends on each specific app but you're consenting for them to see your Facebook
profile in a way as if they were like one of your friends I thought I was your
best friends so these companies are taking that data putting it in databases
and mining it that way so that they can do other things and build other
businesses off of it what so since then they've closed that loophole of Facebook
but the problems that they have a history of pushing the envelope as a
relates to privacy and there's multiple stories throughout the years of them
trying to continue to push to connect our data in more ways which at times has
put us at risk for having our data compromised or our data provided in a
way where we didn't provide explicit consent so what type of data was
compromised basically anything that you would see on your Facebook profile or
that your friends would see on your Facebook profile would have been part of
that data so there's a couple ways to look at it one it's not your social
security number it's not your credit card number so it would be a different
type of data than was there in maybe the Equifax breach but it really begs the
question of which data is more impactful if it gets compromised obviously
if your social security number gets compromised and credit card gets compromised then that's a bad
thing because people can take your identity open accounts spend money that
maybe you don't have but the flip side of that is having all of your facebook
data allows people to understand more about our behaviors our likes our
interests and then use that data to be able to push us to act in certain ways
that they want us to act so with everything going on should you or should
you not close your Facebook account I'm not planning to close my Facebook
account but I'm gonna tell you why first at the end the day a decision on whether
or not you should close your Facebook account is gonna boil down to the amount
of value that you perceive that you get from the platform I know that I get
quite a bit of value from Facebook so outside of the random political posts
and the seen people's kids all the time which I love by the way the main value
that I'm personally getting out of Facebook is that it's become the primary
communication mechanism for me for most of the people in my life outside of
maybe my immediate family or people that I'm texting on a daily basis it's become
this utility this tool that we're used to having in our lives to where I don't
have address books anymore I don't have email lists anymore if I need to reach
someone they're probably already my friend on Facebook and I just send them
a message so that's quite a bit of value for me I don't think I'd be ready to
just turn it off on a whim but there are some things that I'm gonna do different
to protect myself so number one I'm gonna be more conscious about what I
post on social media even though it's locked down to where it's only my
friends I should be able to see it you never know what could happen in terms of
a policy change that maybe I'm not paying attention to or just a regular
data breach that's not on purpose either way we're gonna have to understand but
there's always a chance for the things that we're putting on the Internet
are gonna be shared by someone the other thing that I'm gonna do which would have
made this incident way less impactful than it was I'm gonna personally try to
be a little more skeptical about the things that I read and hear and see on
the internet and on the news so one way that we can protect ourselves is
understanding that people will try to manipulate the things that they know
about us and the data they have on us to be able to push us towards a certain
direction that they want us to go we have got to be more skeptical than that
we've got to make sure that we feel confident about the things that we're
seeing and reading so that we're making good decisions that aren't based on
things that may not even be true I know there's been a lot of discussion around
whether we need to regulate these type of companies like Facebook or these
types of platforms you know I'm not sure about that when you listen to the
questions that Mark Zuckerberg was being asked at the Senate hearing it didn't
inspire a lot of confidence that our legislators really understood technology
and what these platforms were providing well if so how do you sustain a business
model in which users don't pay for your service senator we run ads I think
ultimately even though these situations aren't great we're gonna have to learn
how to get better and living in a world where our data is online but I think
there are ways to protect yourself and if there are ways to make these type of
things less impactful in the future and still get all the benefits that the
social media platforms I provided us in terms of how we interact these days
ultimately that's just my take on it you guys have to make your own personal
decision on what you value the most and how much value you're getting on the
platform based on how concerned you are about the data issues so how do you guys
feel about this is it not a big deal and the media is making too much of it or
are you really concerned and are you deleting that Facebook account let me
know in the comments so if you like this video tap that like button down below if
you haven't had a chance already hit that subscribe button and join the
family cuz these are matters a light and tech and I'll see you guys next time
please what are you gonna do without Facebook Facebook used to be cool now
it's like everybody's parents on their hidden emoji buttons all the time what
are we going to do if we can't see daily pictures for eight months or someone's
baby or everybody's favorite pet dressed up in human clothes I'm just kidding by
the way I really do love all the baby pig

What Is Pruitt Hiding? - Duration: 3:01.
THIS IS A STORY ABOUT THE RIDICULOUS HYPOCRISY OF THE EPA.
THERE IS A GROUP CALLED THE CONCERNED SCIENTISTS, THE
UNION OF CONCERNED SCIENTISTS AND THEY JUST WANTED
INFORMATION ABOUT THE EPA'S TRANSPARENCY POLICY.
THEY COULD NOT FIND IT SO THEY FILED A FREEDOM OF INFORMATION
ACT REQUEST AND THEY FINALLY GOT THIS INFORMATION ABOUT THE
EPA'S TRANSPARENCY POLICY.
OBVIOUSLY IMPLYING THAT THIS IS THE POLICY TO MAKE US YOU
COULD FIND THE EPA.
THEY HAD TO DO A HUGE REQUEST FOR IT.
THEY WERE PUT UP, THE INFORMATION WAS PUT UP ON A
WEBSITE, A FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT WEBSITE AND
HOW LONG DID IT STAY UP FOR?
THEY WERE UP, THE TRANSPARENCY POLICY WAS UP FOR THREE OR
FOUR DAYS BEFORE IT WAS ABSOLUTELY TAKEN DOWN.
BUT THEY DIDN'T WANT TO BE THAT TRANSPARENT.
TRANSPARENT JUST FOR THREE DAYS.
AT THE EVENT FOR THIS, THEY TOOK NO QUESTIONS, NO MEMBERS OF THE
PRESS OR MAJOR PUBLICATIONS WERE INVITED AND THEY TOOK A LONG
TIME TO SEND OUT THE RELEASE ITSELF AND DID NOT RESPOND TO
PETITIONS OR QUESTIONS FROM PEOPLE AFTER THAT.
AND THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION THERE IS SOME CHANCE THAT THEY
STRUGGLE WITH WORDS.
CERTAINLY HE DOES, SO THEY MIGHT NOT KNOW WHAT TRANSPARENT
MEANS.
THE TRANSPARENCY POLICY OF THE EPA IS ACTUALLY DESIGNED
TO MAKE THINGS MORE OPAQUE.
THEY WANT TO PUT RESTRICTIONS ON WHAT KINDS OF STUDIES YOU CAN
PUT OUT THERE THAT CAN INFORM THE WAY THAT THEY MAKE EPA
POLICY, SO THEY WANT TO MAKE A SO IT IS ONLY COMPLETELY
PUBLIC STUDIES AND NOT ONES THAT HIDE THE INFORMATION, YOUR
PERSONAL MEDICAL INFORMATION.
BUT THAT IS RIDICULOUS.
IT REMOVES A
LOT OF A LOT OF STUDIES AND EFFECTIVELY RENDERS A LOT OF
STUDIES, THEY WOULD NEED TO BE RE-CREATED IN A WAY THAT WOULD
BE INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT, SO THE WAY SCIENTISTS DO RESEARCH, THEY
COLLECT INFORMATION FROM PEOPLE, THEY GET IT LOOKED OVER UNDER
THE AUSPICES OF THE UNIVERSITY, THERE IS PEER-REVIEWED.
THESE THINGS ARE TO CHECK METHODOLOGY AND STATISTICS,
NOT JUST GET IN THE WAY OF OIL COMPANIES AND ETHICALLY, LET'S
SAY THERE WAS A RESEARCH STUDY THAT DID NOT FOLLOW THE
TRANSPARENCY GUIDELINES BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO PROTECT YOUR
PERSONAL IDENTITY IF YOU ARE POISONED BY A COAL PLANT, THE
ONLY WAY TO RE-CREATE THAT WOULD BE EXTREMELY UNETHICAL.
YOU HAVE TO EXPOSE PEOPLE INTENTIONALLY TO CALL OR
WHATEVER POLLUTANT AND THAT IS JUST SO AGAINST THE SCIENTIFIC
ETHIC OF THE SCIENTISTS WHO WOULD BE BEHIND IT.
OR IN ESSENCE, THIS BECOMES
LIKE MACRO-DOXING THING.
DOXING ALL OF
THESE FOLKS AND SO IT IS A WIN-WIN FOR THE REPUBLICANS.
EITHER WE'RE GOING OUT THESE FOLKS OR HAHA, YOU'RE GOING
TO GET NO TRANSPARENCY AT ALL.

Iran Threatens U.S. Over Ending Obama's Nuclear Deal, Trump Has Just 2 Words - Duration: 3:48.
Iran recently threatened the United State with dire consequences should Barack Obama's
nuclear deal be brought to an end.
Now, President Donald Trump has just two words for the rogue country.
You won't want to miss this.
Needless to say, America was left with a tremendous mess after eight years of horrible and embarrassing
foreign policy from the Obama administration.
President Donald Trump has been critical of Obama's pathetic nuclear deal with Iran,
even during his time as a presidential candidate.
With the recent threats coming out of Iran's leadership over the possible end of the nuclear
deal, Trump is making it clear that there's a new sheriff in town and the U.S. won't
be pandering to the extremists who run that backward country any longer.
According to Breitbart, during a press event at the White House on Monday, April 23, 2018,
French President Emmanuel Macron and President Donald Trump sat before a crowd of reporters
who wanted to know how the U.S. would react if Iran retaliated should Trump decide to
end the bad deal.
Trump's response was nothing short of brutal.
"It just seems that no matter where you go, especially in the Middle East, Iran is
behind it, wherever there's trouble.
Yemen, Syria, no matter where you have it, Iran is behind it.
And now, unfortunately, Russia is getting more and more involved.
But, Iran seems to be behind everything where there's a problem," Trump said, according
to Daily Caller.
"And, you just have to take a look.
You look at what's happening.
You look at the fighters.
Iran is always there, and we're not going to allow certain things to happen that are
happening, and the Iran deal is a disaster.
They're testing missiles.
What is that all about?
You look at the ballistic missiles that they're going and testing," Trump continued.
"What kind of a deal is it when you're allowed to test missiles all over the place?
What kind of a deal is it when you don't talk about Yemen and you don't talk about
all of the other problems that we have with respect to Iran especially.
Look at what they're doing in Iraq.
You just take a look at what's happening in virtually any place in the Middle East,
and Iran is behind it," Trump said.
"So, what kind of a deal is this where it wasn't even discussed?
And, I know that John Kerry made the statement that he didn't want to discuss other things
while he was making the deal.
Despite all of the money that we gave them, he didn't want to discuss it because it
was too complicated.
That's not the way to do it, because it was too complicated," Trump added.
"So, we made this terrible deal, but we'll be discussing it," Trump said.
When a reporter told Trump that the Iranian's have claimed they will restart their nuclear
program, Trump said, "We'll find out, you'll find out about that.
It won't be so easy for them to restart.
They're not going to be restarting anything.
They restart it, they are going to have big problems, bigger than they've ever had before
and you can mark it down," Trump said.
"They restart their nuclear program, they will have bigger problems than they have ever
had before," Trump reiterated.
Clearly, the President is sending a message to Iran in front of the entire world.
The truth of the matter is that a country like Iran will never honor the agreements
they make with the U.S. or any other foreign government.
A look back in history will tell anyone what lies ahead in regards to Iran and other Islamic
countries.
They can't be joined with the rest of the world in peace because their ideology demands
worldwide domination.
President Donald Trump understands that the only way to deal with Iran's leadership
is through strength and force.
Thank God, we now have a President who isn't afraid to tell Iran that their threats and
support of terrorism have consequences.

It doesn't matter what they say.
I won't accept it in any single way.
Through the floors. Through the cabling.
They're permeating in through every single day.
But I won't be confined by their regimented borders.
We've got the strength of over 50,000 soldiers.
And we're not duty bound to anybodies orders.
Come on everybody now.
Don't let them run you.
What you wanna do.
Don't let them run you.
What you wanna do.
Don't let them run you.
What you wanna do.
Don't let them run you.
Don't let them run you.
