Fairy Doll Wings Tutorial - Duration: 18:21.
Hey everyone, I'm Lizfaerie, and today I'm going to show you how I made these Butterfly
wings!
This tutorial is going to be a little different than my usual videos, because this is going
to be a sewing project!
In this video, I'll show you how I made these small basic wings for a doll.
And in my next video, I'll show you how I made these full size costume Monarch Butterfly
wings.
Some things you'll need for this tutorial are:
A sewing needle A pair of scissors
Some regular and some flat pins Craft wire.
I'm going to use this 22 gauge wire, because that's what I already have.
Its a little thin, so I'll be layering the wire to give it more strength.
You'll also need something to cut your wire.
You'll need some tulle in the main color of your butterfly wings.
Since I'm making such small wings, I'll be using this roll of mint green tulle for my
basic wings.
But for my bigger wings, I'm using a yard of orange tulle.
I have this Styrofoam board I'm going to use to pin all around the outline of my wing design.
You could use a cushion, or cardboard, or a mattress.
I had this foam leftover from a purchase, so I thought I'd put it to some use.
You'll also need a template to base your wings on.
If you like, you can just look online for a set of wings that you like, and use that.
Or you could use the templates I made.
In this video I'll be using this simple pattern that I made, inspired by Tinkerbell.
And in my other video I'll use this Monarch Butterfly wing template.
You can find these pictures by clicking the link at the top of the screen.
That will take you to my website, where you can download the images.
If you like you can use regular sewing thread to fasten the tulle to the frame.
Make sure you use a similar color to the edge of the wing pattern.
For my Monarch wings, I used this black thread.
And for the basic wings, I didn't have a normal thread that matched so I'm using this mint
green embroidery floss (DMC brand #959).
And to decorate the wings, I'll be using more embroidery floss.
For my basic wings, I used 2 of this shiny mint green embroidery floss that match the
color of the tulle I'm using (DMC brand #E3849).
If you're making a different style of wings, you can use different colors, but you may
need different amounts of each depending on your chosen design.
Since I'll be making such a small pair of wings, I'm just using 2, but if you're making
bigger wings, you'll need more material.
For more information about making larger wings, see my other video.
And you'll need a doll to sew the wings onto.
If you want to see how I made this doll, click the link at the top of the screen for my crochet
doll tutorial.
I'm going to begin by printing out my wing designs.
There are several ways you can do this.
First I'm going to open the template I want to print in Microsoft Paint.
If you're using a different type of computer, the program you have installed may be different.
I'm going to use these full wing templates I made in order to make smaller, doll size
wings.
If you want to make full size wearable wings, use the upper and lower half template of the
wings instead, so that the image will come out bigger.
I'll go into more detail about making the larger wings in the next video.
If you're making the smaller wings, make sure to go into preferences and switch settings
to "Landscape" rather than "Portrait" so that the wings are smaller.
If you want to save on ink, select the "Draft" setting.
And to save color ink, select the "Black/Gray scale" setting.
If you want to make the wings even smaller, you need to increase the margins of the picture.
To do that, I'm going to go into "Page Setup", and find the "Margins" boxes.
Then I'm going to set the top margin to 2 inches.
And the bottom margin to 1 inch.
And that will determine how far from each edge the image will print.
Next I'm going to go into print preview, and make sure the wing is the right size.
And then I'm going to print!
And if you like, you could make those lines a little darker by going over them with a
fine tip marker.
This will make it easier to see the design from both sides of the paper.
Now I'm ready to start making my wings.
First, I'm going to shape the wire by pinning all around the edges of my design, through
the paper, into my Styrofoam board.
I want to make sure to put a lot of pins around all the curves, to maintain their shape.
Next I'm going to wrap my wire around the pins to copy the outline of the wings.
I'm going to weave the wire through each of the pins, and bend it until it forms the right
shape.
Alright, I've wrapped all the way around.
I'm going to go around 1 more time.
Now I'm going to remove my pins.
And remove the wire frame.
Then, to join those 2 wires together, I'm going to wrap around both layers of wire,
all the way around.
To make it easier to wrap the wire around, you could cut off a long length of wire instead
of wrapping from the whole spool, like I did for the larger wings.
Just make sure to cut a long enough excess of the wire to go all the way around
Ok, I've finished wrapping my wire frame.
Now I'm going to cut off my wire.
And wrap the end around a few more times.
And just to make sure I didn't warp my wire frame while I was wrapping it, I'm going to
measure it against my design, and make sure that it's about the same shape.
Now I'm going to do that again to create another wing of exactly the same shape.
Now that I have my wire frames, I'm going to cut my tulle.
Since with tulle, you get a more vivid color if you layer it, I'm going to use 6 layers
of tulle for each wing.
I've already cut 12 squares of tulle from my roll.
Now I'm going to pin the tulle down, once again, into my Styrofoam board, along the
edges of the wing design.
And then I'm going to cut through all the layers of tulle, with about 1/8 of an inch
of excess all the way around.
Then I'm going to separate them into 2 groups of 6 layers.
And I'm going to place a couple of pins through all 6 layers, to keep them together.
Next I'm going to roughly sew the tulle around the wire frame I made earlier.
I'm going to use my regular floss to do this rather than the shiny floss, so that I don't
use up as much.
So I'm going to sew the tulle to both of my wing frames, using just 1 thread of the embroidery
floss.
Alright, I've sewn the tulle to the frame.
Now I'm going to fasten off and cut my thread.
I'll hide the tails of this thread later.
Next I'm going to use my embroidery floss to cover up the rest of the wire frame at
the edge.
I'm going to use my regular embroidery floss for this, too.
If you want to finish faster, you could use 2 or 3 threads for this part.
I'm just going to use 1.
And then I'm going to go over that area again with my shimmery floss, so that the edge of
the wing glitters.
If you want though, you could just leave it as it is.
Again, if you want you could use 2 threads.
And then I'm going to do the same thing to the other wing.
Now I've sewn around both of my wire frames with my embroidery floss.
And now its finally time to decorate the wings.
If you want, though, you could leave your wing like this for a more simple style.
So I'm going to use 1 thread of my shimmery embroidery floss.
To make it easier to work around the paper, I'm going to cut away the excess.
Then I'm going to line up the frame with the design.
And I'm going to use a couple of long, flat pins to attach the paper to the tulle temporarily.
And I'm going to stitch through the paper, following my template.
So first I'm going to insert my needle into the edge of the frame, where I've already
placed my stitches around the edge, and pull through until there's a little bit of the
tail ends of the thread sticking out.
And I'm going to stitch around a couple of times, just to anchor the thread.
Then I'm going to cut off the tail, so that it's hidden in the edge.
To begin, I'm going to put my needle and thread to the back of the wing (the side with the
paper).
To sew both sides of the wing at once, I'm going to do a back stitch.
So first, stitch across from the edge, tracing along this black line of my design.
I'm going to stitch up through the paper.
Then, to make the same line on the front side of the wing, stitch back into the edge at
the same spot I started.
And now, to back stitch, I'm going to space the needle out for about a quarter to an eighth
of an inch from the line I've already stitched on the back side.
Push the needle up through the paper, following the design.
Then I'm going to stitch back into the end of this first stitch I made on the front side,
back down through the paper.
Once again, I'm going to space the needle out again at the back, tracing my design.
Push the needle up through the paper.
And stitch back into the end of the next stitch on the front side.
And I'm going to continue to do that until I've finished this line.
If the lines on the back of the design aren't perfectly connected, just stitch around those
stitches at the back to join them together into one continuous line.
Now I'm going to remove the top pin, because I don't need it anymore now that the paper
is sewn to the top of the wing.
When I've sewn the paper down on the bottom of the wing, I'm going to remove the bottom
pin, too.
And if you start to run out of thread, like when there's about 4 or 5 inches left, move
your needle down to the back.
And sew through the lines you just made for a couple of inches.
And cut off the thread, so that the end is hidden in the line.
Or if you're close to the edge, you could also hide the end of the thread in the edge.
Then just start again in the same way.
Stitch through the line for a couple inches, and pull through until a little bit of the
tail end is sticking out.
And stitch around a couple of times to fasten the thread.
Then cut off the ends to hide them.
I'm going to back stitch until I've filled in all the lines of my design.
I'm going to do this for both wings.
Alright, I've finished stitching both wings of my design.
Now I'm going to gently remove the paper from the stitches.
If you like, you can use the needle to push some of the smaller pieces of paper out from
under the stitches.
Or you could use something like a tweezers.
And here are my finished wings.
Now I can sew them to the back of a doll.

Plastic Destroying Island Paradise - Duration: 3:41.
A CARIBBEAN ISLAND IS SUFFERING A GIGANTIC
TIDE OF PLASTIC TRASH AND THE IMAGES THAT WE ARE SEEING NOW OF
THE COASTLINE OF RATON ARE DEVASTATING ESPECIALLY
CONSIDERING HOW EXPENSIVE IT WOULD BE TO CLEAN UP THIS
POLLUTION.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THESE IMAGES.
FOR THE
RESIDENTS OF RATON, THIS IS A TINY ISLAND ONLY 12 MILES LONG
BY 3 MILES WIDE AND THE TASK AT HAND OF CLEANING THIS POLLUTION
IS GOING TO BE INSANELY DIFFICULT AND COSTLY AND PEOPLE
ARE SAYING THAT THIS IS POLLUTION COMING FROM A RIVER IN
GUATEMALA AND IT SHOWS YOU WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES ARE OF
UTILIZING SO MANY PLASTIC CONTAINERS, PLASTIC PRODUCTS
WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT WHERE THEY WILL END UP.
IT IS A TOUGH ONE BECAUSE WE AS HUMANS CREATE SO MUCH TRASH
AND IT IS HARD TO PUT IT AWAY IN A WAY THAT DOES NOT DESTROY THE
PLANET AND SO THERE ARE CERTAINLY BETTER WAYS THAN THIS,
BUT SEEING THE ENORMITY OF OUR WASTE AND LITERALLY HAVING IT
WASH UP ON SHORE, IT IS JUST A STARK VISUAL FOR WHAT WE'RE
DOING TO THE PLANET ON A MACRO SCALE.
BUT I DO NOT THINK THAT IS REALLY HAPPENING.
LET'S HAVE A
DEBATE ABOUT WHETHER THIS IS REAL BECAUSE I THINK THIS IS
SOME SORT OF CONSPIRACY THEORY.
A HOOKS BY THE CHINESE TO.
AND LOOK AT THAT IS HAPPENING, IF THERE IS
EVIDENCE TO PROVE THAT THERE IS PLASTIC WASTE ON THE
SHORELINE, WAS A REALLY CAUSED BY HUMANS?
OR WAS IT JUST A NATURAL THING THAT HAPPENS?
JUST A FACE.
AND THE DINOSAUR AGE THEY HAD LOTS OF PLASTIC TO THE.
PLASTIC GOES IN, PLASTIC GOES OUT.
NOBODY CAN EXPLAIN IT.
WE HAVE TO BE MORE MINDFUL BECAUSE AGAIN, WE'RE OBVIOUSLY
DRAWING THE ANALOGY TO CLIMATE CHANGE, THIS
OBVIOUSLY NOT ABOUT THAT IT'S JUST ABOUT TRASH BUT WE HAVE TO
BE
MINDFUL OF THE PLANET OTHERWISE IT WILL REBEL AS IT IS DOING
NOW.
IT'S NOT THOUGHTFUL, IT'S JUST A MATTER OF MATH AND
SCIENCE INITIAL CLIMATE CHANGE, IF YOU MAKE IT TO WARM A LIST OF
THE MOISTURE AND CREATES MORE INTENSE HURRICANES AND DROUGHTS
AND FIRES EXACTLY WHAT WE'VE SEEN AND IF YOU BUILD UP A
MOUNTAIN OF TRASH ALL OVER THE WORLD, SOMETIMES IT WASHES UP ON
YOUR SHORES AND TO FURTHER AND IS ANALOGY, THE REPUBLICANS WILL
BELIEVE IT UNLESS THEY SEE IT WITH THEIR OWN EYES SINCE IT
DIDN'T HAPPEN TO THEM IN IT AND WASH UP ON THEIR SHOW IS, THERE
LIKE I DON'T SEE ANY PROBLEM WITH TRASH.
AND BY THE WAY, I
KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT A CLIMATE CHANGE STORY, BUT THE REASON I
MADE THAT ANALOGY IS BECAUSE IT SHOWS YOU HOW MUCH CARELESS
HUMAN BEHAVIOR CAN NEGATIVELY IMPACT OUR PLANET WHETHER IT'S
THROUGH CO2 EMISSIONS OR UTILIZING PLASTIC PRODUCTS AND
DISPOSING OF THEM IN A RECKLESS MANNER.
BY THE WAY, I WANT TO
GIVE CREDIT TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER TOOK THOSE AMAZING IMAGES.
HER
NAME IS CAROLINE POWER AND SHE URGES PEOPLE TO REALLY
RETHINK THEIR BEHAVIOR.
ALSO JUST TO GIVE YOU SOME
INCREDIBLE STATISTICS, IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THERE ARE 51
TRILLION MICRO PLASTIC PARTICLES IN OUR OCEAN.

How to Make the Best Instant Ramen You've Ever Had - Make it Less Sad - Duration: 3:16.
So instant ramen is the archetypal sad food. If sad food had a mascot it would be instant ramen.
When someone wants to illustrate that they were super broke, or in a really bad place in their life
They talk about eating ramen for breakfast lunch and dinner. But you can make ramen into a decent meal.
There's tons of recipes online where you add a bunch of fancy ingredients and preparations to make the ramen taste good
But if you're gonna spend all that extra time why not just cook a real meal?
Why are you eating instant ramen?
So this recipe
Turns ramen into something that you might actually look forward to eating. Now the first step begins before cooking.
You're gonna take your top ramen, and you're Maruchan ramen
and just throw it away. Because those ramens are horrible, they're disgusting.
We are instead going to cook the king of all ramens. This amazing spicy ramen call Shin ramen.
We're also gonna add an extra ingredient that you might not expect, so let's take that instant ramen
And make it less sad
So you're gonna take the amount of water it says on the package in the case of this ramen
It's two and a half cups. This is a Korean version the American version might be a little bit different and
bring it to a boil with some
spring onion whites in there. When the water is getting to a boil you could chop up your spring onions
you're not using a lot, so it's not gonna take any time at all.
All right so now that your water is at a boil you're gonna dump in the seasoning packet
and the dried vegetable packet.
Preferably not in the actual soup itself
It'll flare up a little bit, but don't worry about it. Give it a quick stir and let it go for about a minute.
Then you're gonna take your noodles and put it in.
Do not break these noodles up or they won't come out in long strings like you want in ramen.
We're gonna let that go for about six minutes.
So for the last 30 seconds of cooking you want to take an egg and crack it in there.
Fold the noodles over it if you want to.
Okay, so this next part is crucial to making good ramen. It's gonna sound weird, but just trust me on this one.
Turn off the heat and
Take a slice of American cheese, I mean
pasteurized cheese product not fancy cheddar, nothing like that. Put it on top of the ramen.
Put a lid over it so it'll melt for about one minute.
I know it sounds insane, but trust me
this is what makes this bowl of ramen better than any other bowl of ramen it is this American pasteurized cheese
product. Take it off the heat here.
Let it sit. All right so once your cheese is nice and melted
I'm gonna pour it into a bowl like so. Whoops!
Hoping I'll burn my house down with that one. Whoops!
Put some spring onions on top of it.
It's kind of nice, right?
So there you have it my friends you took your super sad weeknight ramen
turned into something that's actually good. You just made your top ramen a little less sad my friends.
Thanks for watching. Everybody hit the like and subscribe button below. It really helps me out
It's a little bell icon you get a notification when I release a new episode every Wednesday
That's a new recipe straight in your inbox every single Wednesday.

Things To Do Philadelphia (Philadelphia Travel Vlog) - Duration: 4:33.
So I just arrived in Philadelphia and I'm here for a day and a half and I'm
visiting my best friend and also doing some sightseeing. And I have a lot on my
to-do list, so let's get started!
First I stopped at Cira green.
To access it you
have to go through the parking garage and up the stairs to the rooftop.
Cira
Green is a public park with great views, connected to an apartment building.
And
on Friday nights during the spring, it turns into a beer garden with music
and drinks.
So now I'm headed to dinner to meet up with my best friend, and I
haven't seen her in six months and we're going to Mission Taqueria.
MissionTaqueria has a lively atmosphere and specializes in tacos, margaritas, and
agua frescas.
I was super impressed with the food and it was also so great to see
Nicole.
We're on our way to Reading Terminal Market to get some food.
Reading
Terminal Market is a public market with over 100 merchants.
It opened in 1893 in
what used to be a train station.
Now the market is a fun place to grab a meal or
a snack.
Of course I had to try the Philly cheesesteak, a Philadelphia staple.
Then we headed to Spruce Street Harbor, which is a park and urban beach along
the Delaware River.
There are lots of hammocks to lounge in and relax.
There are also many food and drink options and ice-cream stands.
Another Philly classic
is water ice, which is a tasty shaved ice treat.
The harbor is in an area called
Penn's Landing, which has a skate rink, Seaport Museum, and warships and boat
rentals.
It's pretty hot humid, but we're on our way to the Magic Gardens for an
event that they call Garden sips. Because every Wednesday they have a bunch of
happy hour specials around the city called sips so we're going to go to the
garden Sips.
Philadelphia's Magic Gardens is a nonprofit Art Museum and
gallery space featuring the mosaics of Isaiah Zagar.
For this event they had a
DJ.
Snacks and refreshments
And even arts and crafts.
For dinner, we headed to the
PHS pop-up garden which is a seasonal outdoor garden with food and drinks.
All
of the proceeds go to the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society they have a couple
throughout the city.
Our final morning we had just enough time for breakfast
before I caught my bus back to New York.
We took our bagels to Rittenhouse Square
and we're able to relax in this historic Park and people-watch before saying
goodbye.
I just arrived in New York, I took the mega bus from Philly to New
York for $5. The trip to Philadelphia was really fun,
and it was very short but I'm glad I could go.
Thank you guys so much for
watching, you should comment below if you've ever been to Philadelphia or the
East Coast, and I'll see you guys next week!
