Have you ever been in the middle of a conversation when you couldn't think
of the word you wanted to use?
You're searching and searching and trying to find the right word to express your thoughts.
Don't worry - it happens to all of us.
In a previous video, I encouraged you to "use your words" to
find another way to express your ideas.
Continuing to explain yourself helps you sound more fluent because you're not panicking when
you can't come up with the precise word.
After all, English isn't always a precise language.
We often use descriptions in order to express the idea that we mean.
But what if you substitute another word or find a more lengthy way to explain yourself,
but you still want to know the precise word or term you can use in order to
express this idea more effectively?
In most cases, the person that you're speaking with will supply or volunteer
the correct word that you want to use.
But what happens if they don't say the other word because they understand you and they
don't want to interrupt the flow of thoughts?
In that case, you want to ask the other person to give you the specific word you're missing.
This is a great way to improve your vocabulary because you're going to find out the precise
term a native speaker would use in this situation.
In this video, I'm going to share natural sounding questions that you can use in order
to invite the other person to share the precise word, term, phrase or expression you can use
in order to express yourself more accurately.
As we go through the examples, pay attention to your intonation.
In order to show curiosity, be sure to use rising intonation.
This encourages the other person to give you more details and shows you're truly interested
in hearing the best way to express yourself in English.
So let's talk about the questions.
I'll repeat each question three times.
Please repeat after me.
Is there a better way to say that?
Is there a better way to say that?
Is there a better way to say that?
Is there another way to say that?
Is there another way to say that?
Is there another way to say that?
Is there a better word for that?
Is there a better word for that?
Is there a better word for that?
What do you call that?
What do you call that?
What do you call that?
In most cases, native speakers wouldn't worry about not knowing the words, so they just
substitute "whatchamacallit," which is a quick, reduced way of saying, "What do you call that?"
Whatchamacallit?
I probably wouldn't suggest you say that, but it's helpful to understand it.
What should I say instead?
What should I say instead?
What should I say instead?
You could also include the term you used.
What should I say instead of that?
What should I say instead of that?
What should I say instead of that?
What's the word I'm trying to think of?
What's the word I'm trying to think of?
What's the word I'm trying to think of?
What's the word for that?
What's the word for that?
What's the word for that?
This may actually be the question a native speaker is most likely to ask.
What's the word for that?
Simple, to the point.
Another variation is what's another word for that?
What's another word for that?
What's another word for that?
When you ask for another word, another way, you're inviting the other person to provide
more vocabulary for you.
They won't feel embarrassed about correcting you.
Most people are too polite to correct you if you say something wrong.
If you encourage the other person by saying you want to hear another way to say that or
another word to say that, they may get more enthusiastic and
start sharing the most precise terms.
As you can see, even if you are able to put your idea into other words and keep going,
even though you don't know the precise term, you may still want to improve your vocabulary
and sound a little more natural when choosing the correct word to express this idea.
In this case, you can use any one of these questions to invite the other person
to supply the word for you.
Don't be embarrassed about asking for the correct way to say something.
There are all kinds of terms I can't think of even as a native English speaker.
If it's not a word that's part of our active vocabulary, it may not come to mind that quickly.
It's perfectly acceptable to ask the other person to give you the correct term.
In fact, this is a technique I use in order to sound more like a native speaker
when I'm speaking Spanish.
For example, I spent years going to Starbucks in Lima, Peru and Santiago, Chile, and every
time I went to Starbucks I tried to find a way to express the type of tea I wanted.
And I didn't have the precise word because I know what it is in English, tea bag, but
I didn't know what it was in Spanish.
So I would find another way to express myself, but finally I just wanted to use the right
term, so I asked the barista how I should say it, and they told me.
Super easy!
I wish I had done it earlier so that I could trust I was saying the right word.
After watching this video, I hope you feel more confident knowing that you can invite
the other person to supply the correct word for you.
Sometimes native speakers just need a little more encouragement to correct you.
Nobody wants to be rude or make you feel like you can't speak English.
It's OK if you find another way to express your thoughts.
You don't always need the precise terms.
Just a quick reminder, if you want more guidance on how to improve your vocabulary naturally,
please be sure to check out my three workshops where I share all of my top tips to help you
sound more like a native English speaker.
If you're looking for a specific word, don't be afraid to comment below the video, express
the idea a different way, and encourage me to supply the word for you.
I'll be happy to help.
Once again, I'm Kim from englishwithkim.com.
I'm your guide to the essential communication skills you need to sound more natural in English.
If you like this video, please give it a thumbs up and share it with a friend.
Have a good one.
Goodbye.

7 Signs and Symptoms of Lupus You Should Know - Duration: 16:16.
Seven signs and symptoms of lupus lupus
Is an autoimmune disease
Which means the body attacks its own cells and organs including the skin joints heart lungs blood?
Kidneys and brain because it can't differentiate between foreign germs and viruses and healthy cells
when the body's immune system turns on itself the inflammation
Pain and swelling that so familiar to lupus sufferers can become a permanent and painful part of everyday life
People often ignore the warning signs of lupus until the problem becomes severe
it is important to be aware of these signs as addressing the problem early can save you from future complications as
It can be difficult to treat lupus after it spreads to nearby areas it is important to know what the early symptoms are
This can help you seek early treatment and give you a better chance in recovery if you have multiple signs and symptoms of lupus
Ask your doctor to check your health levels and get the best treatment for lupus
Here are the early warning signs of lupus
One
skin rash
Skin rashes are very common in individuals suffering from autoimmune diseases in
The case of lupus a type of rash known as a Mallee rush, or a butterfly rash typically forms on the ears arms
chest and face
These rashes are particularly common in the cheeks and across the nose and usually take the shape of a red blotchy set of butterfly wings
The rash is not really icky
It is just visually troublesome and it can be exacerbated by prolonged exposure to heat and/or sunlight
Because this rash has an autoimmune cause it will not respond well to topical treatments or other frontline
interventions
Your doctor may be unable to find a root cause of the rash upon initial
Investigation prompting lupus to be considered later in the diagnostic process
In many cases the rash is localized to a small area at first then spreads out to other parts of the body
To oral and Nizza lesions
Before we continue this video do not forget to subscribe my channel to see other useful health videos
The large majority of lupus sufferers report the painful development of sores or lesions inside the mouth or nose
the mouth sores are very similar to canker sores which can make eating drinking and
Speaking very painful in the case of sores located within the nostrils breathing may become restricted and the patient may experience
pain and tenderness when coming in contact with the lesions a
related symptom can result from light exposure or photo sensitivity
Some people with lupus can develop lesions on their skin surfaces after prolonged
Periods in the Sun while others report that their skin problems seem to get worse after going outside on a sunny day
The link between lupus skin lesions and sunlight isn't fully understood by doctors
But the bottom line is that if you start to experience these symptoms you should visit your physician for an explanation
3
join'd inflammation
One of the most common symptoms of lupus is pain and inflammation in the joints particularly in the hands legs feet
ankles hips and knees
joint inflammation
Is typically one of the first signs of lupus and a normally energetic person may suddenly suffer from extreme joint pain and weakness?
Of all the symptoms of lupus, this is the one that usually prompts people to visit their doctor to get a definitive diagnosis
joint pain and inflammation results from the body mistaking its own tissues for outside intruders
the immune system, then attacks them resulting in inflammation and pain
While this pain is usually relatively mild it can become severe particularly if the underlying cause is not diagnosed or treated in
This regard lupus is similar to rheumatoid arthritis, which has a very similar mechanism of action
The good news is that medications can reduce the severity of these symptoms
For
photosensitivity as
Mentioned lupus patients may develop blisters as a result of sun exposure
Or have existing lesions and skin abnormalities flare up when they stay outside for prolonged periods of time on a sunny day
However the photosensitivity associated with lupus and other autoimmune disorders can present itself in a variety of other ways
Normally sunlight makes people. Happy and boosts their enjoyment of the outdoors
however people with lupus may experience headaches or other in
Tolerances too bright light and sunshine and these symptoms may seem to come on abruptly with little prior notice in
Other words they can affect people who otherwise leave normal active and healthy lives and people who have no history of
photosensitivity or problems associated with sunlight exposure
If you experience these symptoms you should have your doctor check them out to find out why they are occurring
5:00
fever and headache
The more subtle symptoms of lupus are can be very troubling because it lingered for longer periods of time and are more generalized
for instance lupus sufferers regularly report feeling feverish and suffering from migraine headaches on an ongoing basis
But doctors failed to accurately identify the root cause instead treating the symptoms in a manner which only provides temporary relief
These symptoms are particularly problematic because they are so nonspecific in nature
Fevers are associate with a wide range of medical conditions and non serious illnesses including the common cold in the flu
Headaches are routinely dismissed as part of day-to-day life and most people don't consider them serious
even if they linger for days or weeks on end
The bottom line is that you should have any ongoing symptoms. Medically investigated. Even if they don't seem particularly serious at the time
Six
chest pain
in severe cases the pain and inflammation
Associated with lupus can become so pronounced and so serious that it can actually spread into major organs such as the lungs
For example chest pain can occur if the lungs become inflamed as a result of disrupted immune system function
The lungs will literally swell up pressing against the ribcage and causing an ongoing
Ache if left untreated this condition can leave the patient at risk of developing
pneumonia which can itself cause significant health risks
other symptoms of pneumonia include a productive cough a high fever chills shortness of breath
Which may occur only without significant physical exertion?
Your doctor may suspect lupus if you develop pneumonia after complaining of lingering chest pain
Which grew increasingly intense over a period of time especially if you present with other symptoms of an autoimmune disorder?
7
hair loss
Like many other autoimmune diseases and disorders lupus can actually affect the normal development of body cell growth
One of the most visible way in which this symptom presents itself is through abnormalities in hair growth
specifically patients with lupus and patients taking certain drugs for Lucas may experience inhibited hair growth or a full
Scale loss of hair this can occur in both male and female
Patients hair loss symptoms occur as a result of disruptions in the body's ability to support the normal growth cycle
And it is related to the disease's overall tendency for the body to mistake its own tissues for outside intruders
Fortunately if hair loss occurs as a result of drug treatments for lupus you may be able to relieve them by switching to different medication
or discontinuing the problem drug altogether
However, you should only do this on the advice of your doctor
Ten warning signs of poor blood circulation
Good blood circulation is essential for good health
Your blood helps transport nutrients and oxygen to every part of your body
any problem with your circulatory system can lead to a variety of other health issues if
Left untreated it can cause serious damage to your brain heart liver kidneys and limbs
People often ignore the warning signs of poor blood circulation until the problem becomes severe
it is important to be aware of these signs as addressing the problem early can save you from future complications if
You have multiple signs and symptoms of poor blood circulation
Ask your doctor to check your health levels and get the best treatment for poor blood circulation
Here are the early warning signs of poor blood circulation
1
cold hands and feet
One of the first problems that you'll notice is that your hands and feet are constantly cold
While in the winter you may expect it. You will feel cold during the summer months
This is because your oxygenated blood isn't reaching your hands and feet
it's very common first to see the fingers and toes turn white if
You push on the areas you may find that they take longer to get some coloring back
This is a sign that the blood flow isn't there?
It's the blood that helps to heat up the areas so the more you lose the colder your hands and feet will feel
this coldness will be difficult to get rid of
You could wear gloves, and you will still experience it
It's not that your body is cold, but that your blood isn't reaching the areas to help warm them up
Watch out for artificially warming your hands and feet up you may get rid of the symptoms temporarily
But you won't get rid of the actual problem
It's tempting to keep putting your hands in warm water
But you could actually do harm to your skin the cold sensations can continue around your body
-
well enough lower extremities
Before we continue this video do not forget to subscribe my channel to see other useful health videos
Mild cases of swelling in your feet can be due to sitting or standing in one position for long periods of time high salt intake
malnutrition obesity aging a sedentary lifestyle premenstrual syndrome and pregnancy
However if you suffer from Idina or swelling in your feet for quite some time it may be because of poor blood circulation
Due to a lack of blood flow
The kidneys become unable to carry out the process of keeping fluid in the blood vessels where it belongs
This causes the fluid to leach out and settle into surrounding tissues which leads to swelling in
extreme cases poor circulation can also cause like ulcers
When you notice any form of swelling in your feet raise your legs above your heart level
The swelling will subside once the circulation improves
Consult your doctor if you have persistent or extreme swelling
Three
persistent fatigue and tardis
Fatigue is a common side effect of physical exertion and many medications
However a constant feeling of fatigue and tiredness may also indicate inadequate blood supply to different body parts
This causes organs to struggle to carry out their normal duties
It even affects the muscles as they are not getting enough oxygen and nutrients
Along with fatigue and tiredness some people may even suffer from breathlessness lack of stamina and sore muscles
other causes of fatigue include excessive alcohol use
excessive intake of caffeine
inactivity poor sleep unhealthy eating habits
anxiety depression grief and stress
For
tingling sensations or numbing of the extremities
Have you ever laid on your arm, and then felt the tingling sensation or numbness when you sit back up?
It feels like your arm and hand aren't connected to your body, right
Well, this is because you've stopped the blood flow into the hand
It's completely normal, and if you only get it when you've put pressure on your arms or somehow stop the blood flow
It's nothing to worry about
What you should look out for is when you get a numbness or tingling feeling without reason?
You may just sit normally and suddenly feel like you have pins and needles in your hands or feet
They can be elsewhere, but the extremities are the most usually affected first
It's a sign that the blood isn't flowing where it needs to be
Your body is telling you that these areas need better blood flow
Look to see if anything is constricting your body first. It could be the way you're sitting
This is especially common if you sit cross-legged or you put pressure on your elbows at a desk
If you still can't improve the sensations, then you need to look at other reasons for the poor blood flow
Five
Weak immune system and slow healing a weak circulatory system will have a direct impact on your immune system
Due to poor circulation the vitamins and minerals that your body needs to fight off infection are not distributed timely and in adequate amounts
This affects your body's ability to detect and fight off pathogens
With a weakened immune system you may get sick more often an cuts wounds and grazes may take longer to heal
To improve blood circulation and boost your immunity include exercise in your daily routine
As little as 20 minutes of walking five days a week and improve blood flow throughout your body
Six
varicose veins
Varicose veins that appearing the legs can be a symptom as well as cause of poor circulation
Due to improper blood flow pressure builds and causes the veins located just under the skin surface to become swollen
twisted and very visible
Varicose veins tend to appear on the lower legs and cause pain each genus restlessness
Burning sensations and heaviness in the lengths the appearance of bulging veins is also a Beauty concern for many people
Other common factors contributing to varicose veins are heredity obesity
constipation hormonal changes in the body you said birth control pills and even
Occupations that require a lot of standing if you have varicose veins it is essential to wear compression
stockings to enhance proper blood flow
Also consult your doctor to determine the exact cause and treatment
7
Set in hair loss
Hair loss without any known reason is a clear sign that blood is not getting distributed properly around your body
When the scalp does not receive essential nutrients in the proper amounts hair becomes thin dry and starts falling out at a rapid speed
Peer experts recommend massaging the scalp with a proprietary oil to treat hair loss
massage helps increase blood flow to the hair follicles
It's important to also consult your doctor to determine if additional treatment is needed for poor circulation
That circulation also causes dry skin and brittle nails due to lack of nutrients

Physical Health - Living an INSPIRED life with Doc Nuzum | INSPIRED Health Formula - Duration: 5:48.
Jonathan Hunsaker: What if there was a kind of stress that was actually good for you in
small doses?
Stay tuned to find out.
Jonathan Hunsaker here with Organixx.
Thanks again for tuning in.
We're continuing our series on INSPIRED: The 8 Pillars of Health.
Today, we're focused on the letter P: Physical Exercise.
And what is physical exercise?
Well, in a lot of ways, it's stress.
It's just managed stress on our body.
We're doing it in small doses where we're managing the amount of stress, which is actually
really healthy for us.
See, the problem is, most of us, we're stressed out all day long every day, and that's damaging
on our body, but physical exercise, not only does it help with the bad crazy stress, but
it allows our body to learn how to deal with stress better because we're stressing it
on purpose a little bit at a time, a little bit at a time.
And so, ultimately, it helps us be healthier, and it helps us in the amount of stress that
we can actually handle in our day-to-day lives.
Let's go talk to Doc Nuzum.
He'll tell us a lot more about it.
Dr. Daniel Nuzum: Well, today, we're talking about physical exercise.
I've been exercising since I was 5 years old.
I started into Wing Chun Kung Fu.
My dad actually made me a little barbell with two little 5-pound weights on it, and I did
my exercises with that barbell.
He set up a little routine for me to do.
I did that every day.
I started out when I was 5 years old, I've been exercising for almost all my life now.
I love exercise.
The thing is, though, our society is set in such a way that we don't really get a lot
of physical exercise.
We have machines to do stuff now.
What has suffered in our society is that our physical conditioning has gotten worse and
worse and worse.
And we're progressively getting more and more out of shape, or out of condition is,
in my opinion, a better term.
If you're in good shape, your body's in good condition.
It's conditioned to function healthy.
One of the things about exercise that is so important for our health isn't just our
conditioning, it's the fact that exercise is one of the few stresses that we can dose.
You can do a little bit of exercise here, a little more here, a little more there, depending
on your capacity to adapt to that exercise.
All fitness, exercise like weightlifting, or even bodybuilding, fitness folks, they
use exercise as a way to cause their body to adapt.
And as you cause your body to adapt with exercise, you increase your body's capacity to do
things.
You improve your condition by using that little bit of stress, the exercise is a stress that
you dose, you can use exercise to stress your system to a point that it forces your body
to adapt, and as it adapts, it gets stronger and it increases your capacity to do things.
That's the wonderful thing about exercise.
When you become more fit, your body handles physical stress, or physical work, better,
but it also handles emotional stress better, or job-related stress better, or other types
of stress.
As your fitness level increases, and your normal stresses stay the same, because your
capacity is greater, this stress that you would normally have on a daily basis isn't
so taxing on your system.
Let's say someone can lift 30 pounds, like this.
If, on a daily basis, they have to lift 20 pounds in the same motion, multiple times
throughout the day, because 20 pounds is so close to 30 pounds, that repetitive movement
of 20 pounds all day long could tear up their joints.
Now if that person starts to exercise and they increase their capacity from 30 pounds
to 50 pounds, now instead of being 2/3 their capacity, and they still have to do the 20
pounds every day all day long, they're only lifting 20 percent of their capacity, so it's
not as taxing on those joints and on those muscles.
So, as your fitness level increases, your conditioning improves, your ability to handle
everyday stress also improves.
Initially, it takes a lot of energy to get in shape.
Once you get there, it doesn't take as much energy or effort to maintain that, number one.
Number two, it increases your capacity.
So, your capacity, your energy levels, improve as you get more fit.
And what you have to do on a daily basis doesn't stress you or tax you as much as it would
normally tax you.
So, I hope that helps you understand the importance of physical exercise.
Jonathan Hunsaker: Thanks, Doc, and thank you guys at home for watching.
I thank you for your feedback.
We're hoping this INSPIRED series helps you live an INSPIRED life.
