Hi, welcome to my channel in the 3rd episode of Amigurumi Workshop.
As I told you recently, today I'd like to show you my own design -
it's Pinocchio puppet.
I've been working on that project since January
taking break doing other projects you saw them probably on my YouTube and Facebook.
Recently unfortunately I don't have enough time for writing posts on my blog regularly
so I will write something from time to time.
In this video I'll tell you about particular parts of my work
and when I catch breath I try to make
video tutorial about Pinocchio with a fresh energy.
Let's start from the beginning.
Some beautiful winter day I came up with an idea about having
crochet puppet in my amigurumi collection.
Before I started crocheting
I gathered some technical information about puppet construction.
I only wanted to make my doll looking like a puppet
regarding joints connection and movements.
although it's quite amateurish work and I'm not specialists.
So if someone who knows puppet construction watches my video
please share your view of my work
and write what or how I could improve it.
Firstly I was wondering which
part will be movable and how I should attach them,
where and how I attach strings,
which materials I will use and how will look this control device.
Finally I made joint connection in elbows, knees, hips and neck.
You will see them later.
As for control panel I use the pieces of fishing line
and attach them to this cross using jewelry semi-finished products
for example we have jewelry pins with loops
or snap link.
And this wooden cross is made from model-making wooden boards
wrapped around in the center to strengthen the connection between these
two parts.
Firstly I attached strings permanently to the Pinocchio body
but I realized that they can't be permanently attached because I wanted to
show you Pinocchio and clothes separately.
So I have to take his clothes off
and before I do it you can see where I attached the lines.
We have front part.
This two lines are leading to both hands
and side lines leading to both knees
and we have back line - it is for Pinocchios back.
And in the middle I have line leading to the head
through this head.
Hands, knees, back and head.
I measured the lines according to this center line.
I started from the head to keep doll in vertical pose
and then I attached the lines to hands, knees and back.
Now I unlink the strings and take Pinocchio's clothes off.
I only leave this center head line
coming through the hat
because we have hat here and I would like to leave it
as it is.
So we have naked Pinocchio.
Yellow body it's a background for yellow shirt.
It could be other yarn color but I wanted the yellow.
Before I started crocheting I sketched that project to mark proportions.
I was inspired by original Disney Pinocchio proportions.
The head is in 1/3 of all silhouettes,
hand is equal to foot and
foot, calf and thigh have equal size.
I started crocheting from shoes.
I put plastic insole but I didn't make one important thing.
I should put inside the shoes something heavy e.g.
stone or ball to balance the body which
helps to control the puppet.
So when I finished Pinocchio, his legs
were a bit limp or wooden so to say.
Although I tried to fix it in the end,
so I had an idea to sew the second sole to the shoe
and put flat stone between that second sole and the first, the main one.
Next time in the tutorial I show you appropriate design of this shoe
without the second sole.
Shoes and a calves are crochetd in one piece changing yarn color
from brown to beige.
I wanted to keep angular shape of legs to resemble wooden parts.
Calf and the hip are connected in the knee using two buttons
and a piece of yarn.
Similar joint is in the elbow.
Legs and arms are attached to
the body using a piece of yarn.
I made the hip joints - legs are hanging on that
piece of yarn.
Here we have arms.
Neck which links head and body
was done separately.
I made a socket joint -
I show you that in the future tutorial.
Of course head and body could be immovable but
I wanted to my puppet shake the head.
As for face I placed the face parts
regarding some guidelines.
Nose... I put the nose in the line with the 2/3 of head:
one, two, three.
Ears are in the line with the nose
and the bottom part of the eye
is in the line with the upper part of the nose.
Eyes are made from white felt
and I added safety eyes and crocheted eyelids.
Eyebrows and smile are embroidered with a black thread.
Nose, as befits the Pinocchio, is growing :-)
And to make it grows I made three parts.
The thinner one has a short wire inside.
The wire is wrapped around with tape.
It helps to hide parts one in the other.
I hide the nose lightly screwing the parts in.
Okay... and you can make short nose, of course, without this growing effect,
as you wish.
Here we have ears and hair touches the ears.
To make hair firstly I crocheted black base
which I sewed to the head.
Then I attached the short pieces of black acrylic yarn to the base
Finally I brushed his hair and did hair cut.
It was really time consuming
but it's a nice effect I think.
Now I tell you something about clothes.
Pinocchio wears yellow shirt with buttons in the back
and I'm not pleased with the shirt
I have to improve it I think. Perhaps I will use other yarn because
YarnArt Jeans is a bit stiff.
Edges are finished with the ribbing.
It's a FPDC (front post double crochet) and BPDC (back post double crochet)
And we have red pants with braces
and two buttons.
I used braided cable stitch
and I embroidered embellishments on both sides
as in the original Pinocchio.
White collar has the button
and here we have blue bow tie
I sewed the bow tie but you can sew the snap to make it removable.
If you follow my Amigurumi Workshop I presented you that snap in the Cute Owl's scarf
in the previous video.
And I made two bow ties - firstly this one
but I wasn't pleased with it so I made the second one and it's okay for me.
Pinocchio has also black vest with the white edging
and yellow hat with red crochet feather.
I made the feather stiff by spray it with a hair spray.
And this blue ring.
So here we have Pinocchio.
Please write in the comments what you think of him,
do you like him and what you would change or improve.
If you liked the video please thumbs up, share and subscribe my channel :-)
See you!
Watch till the end ;-)
