Hi there, Vladimir here, with another video on how to learn English
The amount of time and money people waste because of bad advice or false beliefs is staggering
There are so many myths about learning a foreign language
It's what I talk about in the first chapter of my book Virtually Native
All those myths cloud your mind, waste your time and ultimately kill your motivation.
We need to dispel them in order to clear your mind, so you can focus on what really works
in terms of learning a foreign language
Let's dive right in.
Myth #1 Practice makes perfect
It's not just about quantity, it's also about quality
Study Hard vs Study Smart
It's about not wasting time doing things that are ineffective
please watch my video about Effective vs Efficient language learners
Myth #2 Too old to learn, The age myth
They say that it is very hard and even impossible to learn a foreign language past a certain age
past puberty
There is truth and untruth in this belief
I talk a lot in my book about age and the limitations of age
The gist of it is
acquiring a foreign language has 3 main aspects pronunciation accuracy fluency
In my experience age only matters for pronunciation accent
There are no limits on fluency and accuracy
I'm the proof
Myth #3 You need to have Talent for Languages
The language gene, does it exist, is it a myth?
how much is genetics and how much is hard work?
I guess we'll never know for the simple reason that it's very hard, even impossible
to draw a line between hard work and talent
The main thing is that it's not an excuse, it's like saying that
God doesn't want you to learn English
It doesn't make any sense
Myth #4 Better go abroad, the only way to be fluent in a foreign language is
to live in the country where it is spoken
No, that's not true I am a living proof of that
I learned English outside an English speaking country
and I've been living in Japan for over 12 years
and my Japanese is not even half as good as my English
In all fairness, the belief that studying in the country where the language is spoken
was kind of true until very recently, before the invention of this thing called
the Internet
In the pre-Internet era there was very limited access to foreign books, radio, TV and movies
one really benefited from living abroad
But today it makes virtually no difference where you live and especially with regard to English
Myth #5 Native speakers = the best language teachers
The myth is in the equal sign.
Many learners equate the term native speaker with the term the best language teacher
This myth is something I am quite passionate about, it is the subtitle of my book
by a non-native for the non-native
Okay, let me say just this
Knowing something and teaching something are 2 very distinct, separate areas of expertise
Teaching a language is so much more than just being a human dictionary
Please watch my video on native vs non-native language teachers
Myth #6 It's okay to make mistakes
And this is something native language teachers say all the time
No, mistakes are not okay
There is a difference between something being inevitable and okay
We are bound to make mistakes but it doesn't mean that they are okay
Myth #7 Strong motivation is essential
Strong motivation is the most important factor in language learning success.
Of course, motivation is important
We need motivation
We need motivation to exercise, to go to work, to go to school, we need motivation
to breathe and live
We need motivation for everything
The problem with strong motivation is that if you are not using the right method
you will fail to get results and you will most likely lose your motivation.
On the other hand, you might get good results even with low motivation
as long as you are using the right method
You need a bit of motivation, no doubt about that, but what you also need
is a smart way of learning
I believe that successful learning can actually increase motivation
In other words, motivation helps learning, but successful learning can also improve and strengthen motivation
do you really need motivation to learn English?
at least a little bit of English
Do people really need convincing, need a reason to learn to speak the only true global language?
Myth #8 Understanding is Everything and Memorization is Bad
This is one of the biggest myths about foreign language acquisition
Destroying it is central to my method of smart learning
It's something I talk a lot in my book Virtually Native
Save yourself time and money and read my book which is available on virtuallynative.com and Amazon

We suck at bikepacking - Key West Trip Day 1 - Duration: 6:48.
We suck at bikepacking - Cycling to Key West EP1
This, is mile marker 0 off route US-1. It symbolizes the Southernmost point in the continental
US, but clearly the house behind it is further South. To me, the real reason to visit mile
marker 0 is to drive through the Florida Keys. From downtown Miami, it's an epic 3 hour
drive, starting with skyscrapers and ending in 7 mile long bridges through the Caribbean—or
the Gulf of Mexico depending on which car window you're looking out of.
The final stop is Key West, and it's worth the trip. If you like coconut trees, flip
flops, and stiff drinks, you may find no better place. Of course, relaxation was the last
thing on my mind when I agreed to pedal to Key West from my house in Fort Lauderdale.
I'm pretty sure it was Alex's crazy idea, and who could blame him? The poor guy has
been off his mountain bike since November, when he dislocated his shoulder. A road bike
adventure through the flattest state in the nation would be a piece of cake.
So we threw caution to the wind, did absolutely no research, and retrofitted our road bikes
with racks and luggage. Alex had a lot of camping experience, and I went through a road
biking phase a few years back. I was no stranger to high mileage. 200 miles in 3 days would
be easy. So the goal for day one would be a campsite 90 miles away in Key Largo. As
we set out from my house in high spirits, we had no idea how humbling of an experience
this ride would be. Alex and I fell short of Key Largo by over 40 miles on day one.
Allow me to summarize why that was the case.
Reason 1: Roady miles and bike packing miles are not the same. When you ride for training
of for the sake of riding you choose your favorite route. We were forced to ride through
Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Hallandale, all of Miami, and Homestead, encountering ridiculous
amounts of stop lights, traffic, glass, and general treachery. City miles are slow and
frustrating. We were moving at a snails pace, which leads into…
Reason number 2: The worst route ever. I used Google maps to plan a route and tapped
the little bicycle icon. This is great for finding the closest bikeway, but terrible
for finding directions. Rather than have you ride for a mile on a less than ideal road,
Google would rather you get on a ferry. Sometimes it would want us to take a bikeway for a few
miles, make a u turn, and backtrack a mile to get on another bikeway—this instead of
just hopping over one median. For the record I now know the best route, but I can't go
back in time to Wednesday afternoon, which brings us to…
Reason number 3: A late start. We did some preparation in the morning and moseyed on
down to the coffee shop. We didn't start pedaling until around 11, since we wanted
to wait until rush hour was over. I don't know why it didn't click that we'd be
in South Miami during the second rush hour. Since my calculations were based on roady
miles, I figured we'd be in the keys by then, but I didn't account for all the stops,
craploads of extra weight, and….
Reason number 4: Mechanical problems. For the record I did one thing right, and that
was buy two really good brand new tires, and a reasonably sturdy rack with panniers. Alexander's
bike was f*cked. His tires were really old, and his rack consisted of 9 bungie cords and
some backpacks. The only thing on his bike that worked consistently was the horn. Alex
kept getting flats on his rear tire, and it took forever to take on and off the bike due
to the rear rack. Between stops to fix the rack, multiple flats, and a detour to restock
our supplies, we burnt through 2 hours of daylight, which brings me to…
Reason number 5: Bad luck, which I admit is sort of a cop out for bad planning. Google
Maps led us to a really jagged and rough fire road, which was out of the question considering
Alex's tire issues. So we tried to find a way around it and found ourselves trapped.
I
was going to do it, but Alex was actually the voice of reason. He might have saved both
of our lives. During the day, maybe. At night, it was sketchy.
So, 40 miles from Key Largo we decided to throw in the towel. Luckily, motels in Homestead
are about the same price as tent sites in the keys. We were pretty bummed out, and admittedly
doubtful that we would get to Key West on time. Both of us were on a time constraint,
and the next day was looking grimmer and grimmer by
the minute. After 50 miles of arduous urban pedaling, we needed something to boost our
spirits.
Our goal for the following day would be to make it to Key Largo and keep pushing all
the way to Marathon by the end of the day. That was a lofty 80 mile goal for day two.
Would we make it? Find out in the next video. Thanks for riding with me today and I'll
see you next time.

How To Answer IELTS Speaking Test Part 2 and 3 Questions - Duration: 3:42.
Hi Guys!
Here is a sample answer for the IELTS Speaking Test Parts 2 and 3 when you are asked to describe something
in the present tense and then what happened in the past and what might happen in the future.
Let's use technology as an example of how to handle this question.
The question is "How do you use technology in your life?
Do you use a smartphone or mobile phone?"
You can answer: Yes, I use a smartphone or mobile phone in my life all the time.
I use it to call people, I use it to send messages and I can do research on the Internet
or even take pictures and share them with my family or friends. It's a great tool and
it's inexpensive.
In the past, smartphones or mobile phones were a lot more expensive.
The battery didn't last long and they were quite large.
They were called "a brick on a stick" because they were the size of a brick with the antenna
sticking out.
They weren't very convenient.
But that's changed with the change in technology.
In the future, I think people will still communicate over some type of phone, but it seems to me
that the phones will be smaller, less expensive, faster and easier to use.
Maybe we won't be wearing out our thumbs by texting and it will all be done with voice
recognition.
So in that answer you talked about how things are now, and contrasted it with the past and
then give an example of how the future might be.
It's very difficult to know what will happen in the future, but you can say things like
"In my opinion" or "It seems to me" or "It's my best guess" "My best guess in the future"
how things will be.
And that's a full and complete answer for the IELTS Speaking Test Parts 2 and 3.
I have done a number of videos on the IELTS Speaking Test.
You can subscribe to this playlist and watch them all.
All of the questions have answers that I have given and all of the questions are from recent
IELTS Speaking tests.
Some of the books you see on the Internet contain answers to questions that are not
used anymore, so it's better to study the most recent questions so you can be ready.
I also wrote a book all about the IELTS Speaking Test.
I've taught hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of students so I'm given information from them
on what us on the IELTS Speaking Test and some of my friends are IELTS examiners.
So, all of this is in the book.
You can see the link below to the book and please follow these videos and good luck on
the IELTS.
You just need to tell a great story and be organized in your mind about what to say and
you will be successful!

All I have because of Jesus
All this promise
Won for me
When He paid the highest ransom
Once for always
For my freedom
I will boast, in Christ alone
His righteousness
And not my own
I will cling to Christ my hope

Now and forever
Love will never lose its power
All my failures, could not erase
And now I walk within Your favour
Grace unending
My salvation
I will boast, in Christ alone
His righteousness
And not my own
I will cling to Christ my hope
His mercy reigns
Now and forever
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
