Hi, this is Andrea with The ADS Agency.
Here to bring you the very best in marketing and
branding tips, as well as business tips
for those of you who are entrepreneurs, salespreneurs,
small business owners and otherwise.
Welcome and thanks so much for coming.
So today we're chatting all about
marketing for the first time in your business,
hiring on your first marketing person.
And that's really important because
those of you who are small business owners and otherwise
if you've never hired someone in marketing before,
it can be really hard to have to do that and
think of you know, how do I treat this person?
And how, what do they expect of me, and
how should we operate?
Sometimes we have an idea in our head of
how that should work and
it's not actually the way that's quite conducive
to what most professional marketers are used to.
So today's all about shedding a little bit of light
into that process, what should we do?
How do we treat marketing people?
The first thing to remember is that
if you're hiring a professional with years of experience,
know that they are your expert.
So, when you're hiring marketing person,
you have to give them that leeway
to be your expert in a situation.
Right so, allow them to be your expert.
Allow them at the table, number two.
Allow them to be your expert and allow them at the table.
So you're hiring someone, you're gonna wanna make sure that
they're at the table for decisions.
You may not be used to that,
it may have been a while since you've allowed
new people at your decision table in a business.
But, if you are taking someone on in marketing,
it's important for them to be there because
those are the people who are gonna help you
take your business goals...
align them with the marking plan that
they're gonna help you create.
And then make sure that they're tracking that
throughout the year for you and
steering that as issues, problems come up
and that kinda thing, they can't do that
if they're not there at the table
where decisions are being made, right?
And where the important things are happening, so
make sure you let them at the table, okay?
So, number one, make sure that
you allow them that leeway to be your expert.
Number two, make sure that you allow them
the opportunity to be at your decision-making table.
And number three, be open.
Be open to the ideas that they're bringing to you.
So ideally, somebody who's an expert
has had a breadth of experience.
They're coming to you from different organizations,
non-profits, corporations, big organizations and otherwise
and they're bringing you a wealth of experience that
you've not had before, so
when you are bringing on someone in marketing,
make sure that you keep enough of an open mind
to allow that person...
To not only be your expert,
and not only be at your table,
but bring you new ideas, okay?
So those are three, big things about
working with someone in marketing.
