Things You Should Know About Me! - Duration: 6:18.
everyday i get so many messages hundreds
of messages from you all and generally
you're asking me the same thing so I
thought I would make one big video so
that you guys get the answers to your
questions
firstly Who am I? well my name is Anna
and I am English that's right i was born
in the north of England in a small town
called southport which is near Liverpool
I grew up in Manchester which is a city
in the north of England then I went to
university to study acting in birmingham
which is in the Midlands I then came to
London to do a master's degree in
teaching and in singing most of my life
I've been focused on being a
professional actress and singer and I've
also alongside that being a teacher now
I taught many different things dance
singing exam preparation skills memory
techniques acting elocution being the
biggest one and and more recently
English I'm not however a
fully-qualified English teacher but I am
doing my tefl course at the moment now
my youtube channel English like native
is not the only youtube channel i have
in fact i have three yes three youtube
channels the first one this one english
like a native is my way of helping you
to learn English in a fun way in a
different way through song and drama and
silliness my second channel is called
verba vocal technique and this is an
education channel about singing to help
you learn to sing
and my third channel is more of a
personal channel and this is called
Anna Nother Thing now
besides these three youtube channels i
also have two websites i have
www.englishlikeanative.me which is a social
media platform for English learners to
come together and learn with each other
and then i also have
BritishEnglishpro.com which holds elocution courses
pronunciation courses this takes up a
lot of my time and besides these
websites and YouTube channels i also
have facebook twitter and instagram for
most of the different businesses this
keeps me very busy especially given that
on one of my facebook pages i have over
23,000 students so all in all I have
between 40,000 50,000 followers across
all the different platforms and across
all the different businesses
this means that I am incredibly busy
trying to create content run the
websites and read and respond
all comments and messages which
unfortunately as you probably guessed
means i can't respond to everybody so if
you send me a question that is relevant
about an idiom or a certain phrase or is
this sentence correct then those will
always take priority and i'll try my
best to answer you and help you as best
I can but if you ask me questions like
hey are you single
hey are you married hey can we be
friends
hi how are you then these questions are
not going to take priority and in fact
my marital status is not relevant for
english learning so please stop asking
now many of you asked me if i will add
you to my personal facebook page and i
have to tell you unfortunately i have
one big rule
I do not add students to my personal
facebook page i have to keep my work and
my personal life separate
so my personal Facebook page is only
for my friends and my family i hope you
understand that but this is why I set up
the English like a native facebook page
so that you can all connect with me
you also asked me if we can connect on
whatsapp now I do connect with some
students on whatsapp I connect with
gold members of English like a native
this is their reward so gold members of
the website englishlikeanative.me
have access to me on skype and on whatsapp
we regularly swap messages and
voice messages and they also get a live
Skype call once a week so if you're
serious about improving your English and
you really want to get me a whatsapp and
you want to have live skype calls with a
native then you need to go to
www.englishlikeanative.com me and check out the gold
membership options so i hope you
understand where I'm coming from and I
hope that helps you to understand why
I'm not responding to your personal
messages or why i haven't responded to
your comment
it's not that I don't care it's not that
I don't think you're important
it's just I don't have enough time so i
hope that you respect that and
understand that, and that you will
continue to give me your love and
support which you already have and which
is much appreciated if there are other
things you like to know about me that I
haven't already covered then please feel
free to put comments in the comments box
below and maybe in a month i'll do a Q&A
video and i'll tell you a bit more about
myself so put your comments in the
comments box below and if there are
enough questions and i will do a Q&A
with a video
all right lots of love

5 Most Forbidden No Man's Lands - Duration: 6:31.
In 1947, the Soviet Union used prisoner and slave labor to construct the secret closed city of Ozyorsk, code-named "City 40."
City 40 became the birthplace of the Soviet nuclear program and housed scientists working at the Mayak nuclear facility.
The area became riddled with radiation after accidents released over 3 times more contamination than the Chernobyl disaster...
...and residents were never told about the risks or allowed to leave in order to keep the site and program a secret.
Today, City 40 and its population of over 80,000 remain encircled by guards and double fences of razor wire.
Residents have reportedly had their identities outside the fences completely erased and cannot leave without permits.
The few activists who have tried reporting on conditions from within the city have allegedly never been heard from again...
Bir Tawil is a 795 square mile (2,060 square km) deserted and landlocked territory between the boarder of Egypt and Sudan.
Created by discrepancies in colonial maps drawn between 1899 and 1902, the "Terra nullius" may be one of the last on Earth.
The no man's land is considered to be the only habitable land on the planet that is not taken by or recognized by a government.
Neither county wants control over Bir Tawil, as it would mean giving up rights to a more valuable disputed area on the Red Sea.
After several attempts by tourists to visit and claim Bir Tawil on social media, access to the remote area has been restricted...
Prior to 1974, the Cypriot city of Famagusta was a modern and thriving tourist destination on the Mediterranean Sea...
...but during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, residents fled as Turkish forces and Greek Cypriots met in combat in the streets.
The Green Line marked the end of the Turkish army's advance and forms the present-day border for the abandoned Varosha sector.
Fences were erected around the zone, creating a forbidden ghost town of crumbling high-rises slowly being reclaimed by nature.
The Turkish government continues to hold the Varosha no man's land as a bargaining chip for future negotiations with Cyprus...
At the conclusion of World War I, over 460 square miles (1,200 square km) of France was designated as "Zone Rouge"...
"Completely devastated Damage to properties 100%. Damage to Agriculture 100%. Impossible to clean. Human life impossible."
Nearly 40 square miles (100 square km) within that Red Zone remain uninhabitable and off-limits 100 years later.
The area is littered with unexploded poison gas shells and the remains of soldiers and animals that were too numerous to clean up.
Soil sample tests continue to show arsenic concentrations as high as 17%, enough to kill 99% of all plant and animal life...
Mercury, Nevada is an "artificial" city constructed in 1950 by the US Atomic Energy Commission within the Nevada Test Site.
It was named after the nearby Mercury mines that existed before the area was taken over for top-secret nuclear weapons testing.
At its peak, Mercury housed a population of over 10,000 nuclear scientists, military personnel, and associated family members.
Access to the city was severely limited, with only cleared staff being allowed to enter or leave with government permission.
Today, the mostly abandoned Mercury has a population of only 500 and is the only known closed-city within the United States.
It is rumored that the former mercury mine caverns are now clad in stainless steel and may be hiding secret UFO research labs...

Ulcerative Colitis iHaveUC Team - Welcome to 2017 - Duration: 8:34.
Hey Guys!
Good morning, noon or evening. My name is Adam Scheuer
and I started the iHaveUC.com
website oh I don't know seven
eight years ago shortly after I was
diagnosed with you see and i want to
welcome all of you every single one of
you 2017 we have one week already behind
us and that's pretty amazing. So let's
see here, I don't really have any splendid
massive news to tell you or talk about
this evening here. It's nighttime where I'm at.
However I know that there's a bunch of
you that are struggling right now with
your UC and you could be in a time where
it's your first flare-up or maybe you're
just diagnosed two days ago and you're
dealing with a whole bunch of different
things physically and mentally
especially. Your body's not working the
way you remember it. You are running into the
restroom you're going to the bathroom
you're sitting in the bathroom you're
spending hours a day and there was blood
fine into the toilet bowl and things are
smelling off or maybe your joints are
hurting your God on shoulder your back
stuff is starting to stop working
properly and I'm unfortunately maybe
you're feeling like wow this is never
going to end
and i want to let you know that it does.
Things get better! Things don't stay
awful forever. And there's going to
be a light at the end of your tunnel
like there is for everyone else. So keep
that a somewhere in your head. And one
thing that I've noticed over the years
is I I've written some ebooks for
documenting my story about how I was
diagnosed previously before that and
after what I went through a lot of it
has to do with how I treat my you see
their stuff about the food that I eat I
used is specifically to help me out and
always around this time of year in
december even into january i get emails
from people who bought the books that I
written over the pet over the past
several years said hey Adam I bunch of
books but i got a new computer or I've
got I lost them their digital books can
you please email them back to me or send
you know send me the files again and I
always find it interesting that it's
this time of year when i get i get these
throughout the year but I get much
higher percentage of these types of
emails from people so here's my thought
and this is how I think it could relate
to you this time here tends to be tricky
and I think it also tends to be more
stressful for people people with you see
people without you see parents of people
with you see and everybody I think it's
more stressful time of year and I along
with many of the people that use this
website believe that stress plays a part
in our colitis and our potential
symptoms are symptoms and stressful
times can do a lot of stuff to the body
that is not understood by science and
doctors have been trying to understand
stress and the interactions with the
rest of her body for for many years and
they'll continue because it's complex
and there's just no one that has all the
answers but what I think we can try to
do for our sales is try to relax and
remove as much as you can as far as
stressful situations that you may get
involved with and try to think about
that a little bit
there's probably some different things
that you do in your life
that you could sit back 40 make some
decisions and say you know what maybe i
shouldn't do that maybe I shouldn't I
shouldn't talk to the person like that
because it gets me all stressed out they
get stressed out might be things with
relationships people who are part of
your life you wouldn't be the first
person that had some stressful
relationship or ships I think everybody
walking this planet as some
relationships that cause stress and
maybe there's some things that you can
do to mitigate that or remove that so
maybe there's other parts of your life
that are stressful that you don't even
know it but it's it's messing me up
might be things with your work and to be
a number of things that might be
situations might live a lifestyle that's
just simply difficult to pull off you
might be not taking enough time for
yourself or you just sit at home or
sitting Parker sit in the library doing
nothing but your brain and your body
chill out
I've seen it with many many people with
you see many people without but again
this time of year tends to be kind of
crazy i'm just going off of messages
that I get a much more higher proportion
of them this time of year then the other
say average month so i went with y'all
excellent start to 2017 there are

the world that have you see within those
comments so i encourage you
you too not just read the stories but
the comments and if you want to search
for any type of story you can go to the
search bar on the top and type in
anything you want
there's a newsletter
it's got 15,000 people that are part of
it over that i recommend you to join if
you're not already i threw out some
updates on there from time to time some
information I think you would like
there's a list of doctors on the website
these are doctors that other people who
use the website who have alternative

You can obviously feel free to reach out to us at any
given time at dadehelp@accelify.com
to obtain copies of these recordings so that you can
watch them again at your leisure.
Once again I'm going to be going through with the same
kind of format that I have been for Domains A and B,
doing the general understanding of how the
present levels to service to matrix connection works
as well as talking about some of the specifics
inside of Domain C itself.
For any system related questions,
once again we are asking you to reach out to
dadehelp@accelify.com.
If you have any business process,
quality IEP questions,
please direct those to the district.
That would be at eseems_support@dadeschools.net
so that they can get you a response there.
All right, so I'm going to start with Domain C,
something that I've mentioned before
which I will mention again.
I am inside of an IEP annual meeting,
the domains work the same across all IEP events
insides of our system.
So whether you're doing an interim,
whether you're doing an annual, an initial,
a reconvene this connection and everything that we're
looking at today will be exactly the same.
Also, this works the same inside of transition IEPs
versus regular IEPs.
There are a couple of differences
in terms of the output
and the front page of the present levels but,
with regard to the service, present level service
connection to the matrix it's going to work exactly the same.
So I am inside of independent functioning.
We can see that this looks as if it was blank,
this hasn't been filled out yet.
The strength of the student is where you're going to
type in those example strengths as we were doing
yesterday, I'm going to do the same thing here.
Example strength, now you have this question
underneath, does the student's disability affect
his or her involvement in progress in general
education area of Independent Functioning?
Set to no.
If we kept it as no in this domain or any domain
that will immediately check level 1.1 in the matrix
indicating that the student needs no services.
However, if we say yes this will then expand and we'll
see a variety of holistic questions that we're going
to be answering in order to take a full range view of
the child, a full look at the child with respect
to the domain that we're in which is independent
functioning on this case.
As we can see up above, there's a transition area
section here, you'll see this on all IEPs
that are identified as transition.
Any of these items that you check will be included
in the output as part of the name of this domain.
So this for example with these that I have checked
here, this would say independent functioning
and instruction and post school adult.
So we know that we're addressing these transition
areas as a component of this domain.
Other than that, we're not looking at output today so
I'm not too worried about that.
Underneath here, we have the effects of the disability.
We have two different text fields.
The top one you can click in to and write.
This is where you'd be writing any of the examples
effects that you want to include on the IEP.
So I'm just going to type example here.
Underneath when you click, you can't actually enter
anything into this text field down below
and the reason for that is as
we've seen for the past few days,
every sentence that you write underneath one of
these questions as part of a descriptive sentence field
is going to be concatenated and added here as part of
your effects of the disability.
So we'll see that happening again today
as we did as we are going to before.
Something I do want to call to your attention on this is
we've got a lot of calls from a lot of people telling
us that they have seen inconsistencies across the
IEP and the matrix itself.
So they'll go through and finish all the domains
and then they'll go and look at the matrix
and it's not adding up.
First things first, as I mentioned yesterday
and as there's an announcement on the IEP homepage.
Do not, do not, do not lock any events inside of an IEP,
if you're seeing that there's inconsistencies
between the IEP and the matrix.
You should be reviewing the IEP and the matrix both
at the same time before you lock either.
If you're looking at the matrix at the IEP and you
say you gave a service that you expected to hit level three
and you're not seeing that level three reflected
in the matrix, do not lock either.
Our first recommendation in instances of that is to go
through each domain inside of present levels
as I'm inside of this one now
and just click the Save Form button.
This Save Form button is going to actually
recalculate your matrix in certain instances.
So our first recommendation would be just to go back to
the IEP and click Save Form on all those domains.
If you're still having issues with regard to what
you're seeing or questions do not lock.
Reach out to us at dadehelp@accelify.com
so we can address these issues one by one.
Once you lock we're going to, the process is
much more complicated.
We'll reach out, if you reach out to me with those
instances we'll handle them one by one.
However it's much easier on our end if you do not lock first.
So please reach out to us first.
Okay, looking at the questions here that we see
for Domain C, we can see that the first question is
does the student require assistance
with Assistive Technology or equipment
for daily independent living and functioning?
If I say yes here it's going to provide me a descriptive
sentence field where I'm going to document
and as we've been telling everybody across the different
presentations that we've been having,
inside of this descriptive sentence is where you're
supposed to write why the student needs exactly what
you said yes to in this question.
So as an example here, does the student require
assistance with Assistive Technology,
I would indicate why.
Why the student needs that Assistance.
Beyond that if you have any questions with regard to
what you should be writing in certain text fields
in the system, you should reach out to
eseems_support@dadeschools.net
as they will give you instruction
with regard to how to write a quality IEP.
We are just here to discuss how the system works.
Here you can see that I'm writing an example sentence
and as I write this it's being added to the second
text field up above, which will be included as a part
of your effects of the disability statement on the
output of this IEP.
So here you can see I wrote example sentence.
It says, example sentence up above.
If I say yes here, and something that I've been
teaching you guys as we went through,
I'm going to do some yeses here to show you the examples.
If I say yes to some of these questions,
they may create services on the
service grid for you to complete.
They may start the system to look for certain
accommodations that you be adding in order to check boxes.
They may be doing neither of that.
We may have questions here that are just going
to be used to inform the IEP itself without actually
having the matrix connection.
So one of the things that I've been doing each day
is I taught you guys this trick,
you're going to right click where we see services.
You're going to right click on that and click open a new tab.
That's now going to open the service grid independent
of the present levels tab that we're looking at so we can
actually toggle back and forth and see the direct
results of the questions that were answered.
I recommend doing this and I always work on it this way
so you can see this.
It's also easy and beneficial if you ever make
mistakes and you realize you added a service that isn't
correct, you can quickly go back to present levels
and change it out.
So I'm going to say yes to does the student require
assistance with Assistive Technology.
Does the student require consultation/collaboration
for independent functioning?
Inside of each domain we have a question where you
can answer a consultation/collaboration
as well as potentially other items
that relate to that domain.
If I say yes here, I then have two options.
One of them is going to be required.
I have to choose a consultation or a
collaboration in.
If I choose consultation in,
it would then show me a drop down here where I can choose
all the different areas that a student needs consultation in.
For each one, this will create a separate
supplementary aid and service on the service grid
for me to complete.
So here for example, I'd have four services
that I'm going to now have to complete.
If those are not all what the student needs,
you can just simply X them out to make sure that you
just have the correct service being created.
There's also an example of a sentence or
in another descriptive sentence here that you'd write in.
This is where you would describe exactly
why the student needs consultation and Audiological
Services and this is one thing added to your effects
to the disability.
If you guys have experimented with or
practiced printing any of these plans or done final
ones, you'll realize that none of what you're really
entering here is going to print on the IEP itself,
just the sentences get added.
This is all just to take that holistic look at the child.
So here I'm adding a consultation and
Audiological Services, collaboration in would work
the exact same way.
If I wanted to add one I can do that here.
You have questions on what consultation or
collaboration mean, support facilitation,
specialized instruction, please definitely direct
those to your district with regard to how that
terminology should be best explained to you.
The next one, does the student require
organizational strategies or supports i.e. Time
Management, hygiene, toileting for independent functioning?
This one's a little bit different.
If I say yes here, I'm then going to be asked whether or
not I'm going to be addressing this one within
accommodation or a service.
If I choose accommodation, the system will not create a
service but it will be checking what accommodations
I add to the accommodation screen
in order to find that mapping.
So it's going to say, okay these accommodations are
ones that can be used for organizational strategies or
supports, so I'm going to wait.
The system is going to wait until you add the
appropriate accommodation in order to check the matrix.
If you choose service it's then going to create a
service here for you, for you to complete which will
then when completed check the matrix as appropriate.
Are these strategies or support specially designed
and implemented at least once per week?
If you say yes to this question, it might,
it might drive you up further in the matrix than
where you were before.
So if for example we say specially designed
and implemented at least one per week,
some of these terminology looks like it's directly
drawn from or inspired by the matrix.
This is something that is in that instance
or one of those instances, so if we said yes here,
it will implement and it will check the matrix
when it is complete.
Once again, we put a sentence in here,
I'm going to put sentence three,
we're going to see that added up above.
Underneath here, does the student require,
a special materials/equipment/supports
for motor control?
Once again if I said yes to this one,
this is going to check for an accommodation that we add.
We add the appropriate accommodation or
accommodations or assistive technology
it will then map and carry over.
I'm just saying no to this.
Does the student require supervision for safety?
If I say yes to certain questions in this domain or
in all domains, I'm going to see follow up material,
I'm going to see follow up drop downs or check boxes or
values, that are going to start asking me
a certain time amount.
So here you can see, I said supervision for safety,
I then have an How often?
And I'm going to choose between monthly, weekly,
daily, daily or continuous.
What I choose here will limit my ability to complete
the service on the service screen.
If for example I choose monthly here,
when I try to complete the service on the service
screen, it's only going to let me choose monthly.
It's not going to let me choose any other frequency
because that's what I've defined on this level.
If I choose something like daily more than 50% of the
school day, it's going to require me to put in a total
amount of minutes that are going to be
more than 50% of the school day.
So we've got a lot of people writing in who've answered a
question like this and then they'll try to add
supervision for one, times 50 minutes daily.
So 50 total minutes per day.
However you told present levels that the student
needs it for more than 50%.
So because of that inconsistency the system
won't let you say it.
So you have to make sure to come back and review here
to make sure that you've said exactly what the student
needs so that you're completing those services
in sync with what you said.
Once again I could put a sentence underneath here
to say yes or no.
Now we had a question on this one down below so it's
something that I want to address.
I'm going to pull up the matrix independently so we
can just take a look at that now too.
I'm in my process of having all these different tabs open.
I'm going to write click on the matrix
event and click open a new tab.
Now that's going to open the matrix itself.
I'm going to slide it over so that we have these in the
general order that I like to work.
Present levels is one tab, we have services as another tab
and we have the matrix now and I'm going to open Domain C.
With regard to this question,
does the student require a supervision for safety?
This question down below, does the student demonstrate
a pattern of regular outbursts or self-injurious behavior.
If you said, daily, if you say continuous here
and then if you also say yes to does this student demonstrate a
regular pattern of self, outbursts or self-injurious
behavior, that's going to end up checking down below
in level five.
This is continuous supervision to ensure
physical safety.
That's how you end up down at a five one.
If you say the student needs continuous and they also
demonstrate that pattern, because that pattern
is part of checking this as for the matrix example.
I just wanted to call that out to you that that's going
to get you to a level five.
Once again we described items down below here,
sentence five.
Okay, does the student require assistance or
supervision in activities of independent living
and/or self-management?
So it's another question regarding assistance or
supervision, the first one here is for safety.
That's exactly what this one is for.
This one instead is for supervision and activities
of independent living and/or self-management.
If you need further clarification on that please
ask your district as far as what are the differences we
had somebody write in about that.
You can say yes or no here, once again this will follow
the same pattern that we saw before.
It's going to ask us to put in a certain amount of limitations.
Monthly, weekly, daily, I'm going to put in monthly in
this one just so we can see the difference between the
two end questions that we have here.
Does the student require any regularly scheduled therapies?
If you say yes, you can then take a look
at what the therapies are here.
As I mentioned yesterday as you guys are going through
an IEP for the first time, you can always say yes to
see what's underneath it, see if it applies to your
student and then change it back to no to make sure that
you're answering that question correctly.
The system hasn't saved anything here so it's not
creating any services, you can still go through and see
what might be offered here and if you're like,
oh the kid does need a regularly scheduled therapy
let's click yes, oh none of these apply so I understand
what this question is about I'm going to click it to no
indicating that we're not going to have
any services created here.
Regardless we can see we have three options.
Each option that you choose here is going to create a
different related service on your service grid
and they're going to require you to put in the descriptive
sentence for each.
This would directly impact or inform the matrix
where we can see, we have an option called
regularly scheduled therapy here.
We have occupational therapy or physical therapy more
than once per week and then we have multiple therapies
and based on the combinations of services
that you complete with their frequencies,
we're going to either end up at a level four or somewhere
in level five based on that.
So those would be these ones here.
So for example I can just choose occupational therapy
and we'll have a occupational therapy related
service for you.
Now does the student require modifications in Adaptive
Physical Education?
This will create an adapted PE service that will then
once again be there for you to complete.
All right, so I'm going to go through with
how I completed it now.
I'm going to go to the section down below and add a
PEN and I'm going to click add.
Once I add this PEN it's going to add it to my PEN
section here for me to be able to use to complete my services.
Obviously I added something career skills that might not
be necessarily what you're using here,
please use your best judgment with regard to how
you know to create IEPs to use the correct PEN here.
Now I'm going to click Save Form,
now this is going to take a minute or two to load
because this is actually doing a bunch of things in
the system behind the scenes.
This is auto creating all of the services that we
recommended here for you to be able to complete with the
IEP committee when you're in a meeting.
So this is taking all of our answers here and making sure
that these correct services are being created
and it's also starting to inform the matrix
and get the matrix ready for a potential checking's based on
the way that I complete these services.
So here I said, answers to a bunch of one,
a bunch of questions here.
Of course you're still going to want to complete these
descriptive sentences before you can lock the IEP.
Something that we've addressed in each of the
domain instructions that we've so far in these Webinars.
Anytime you say yes to a domain,
so up here when you take that first question and
change it from no to yes,
you must add a PEN inside of that domain.
This is true for every domain except for Domain D.
So that means that because I said yes up here,
I'm going to have to add a PEN,
a PEN down below is required.
So I added this PEN down below.
If in Domain D you say yes as we'll see tomorrow,
you do not have to add a PEN.
Domain D is an exception to this rule.
So I completed this, we're going to say that for the
most part I've done what I needed to do thus far.
On services which is my other tab
that I have opened, I have two
ways to refresh this page to see.
I'm in Chrome which is our preferred browser and up
here on the top left you can see a refresh button.
We also have a little refresh button inside of the
services grid itself, this is the one I like to use,
it refreshes a little bit faster than the browser.
When I click refresh, we can now see all of the different
services that I've added to the student.
So these are all the services that have been
recommended based on my answers in the present levels.
You can see that in certain instances we're starting to
auto fill or auto complete based on suggestions
where certain things might be or the frequencies
and so on and so forth.
So the first one that I want to complete for you guys is
supervision to ensure physical safety.
This was one, if we take a look back,
we saw that this was this question,
does the student require supervision for safety?
We said that it must be daily at 50% of
the school day or more.
So when I complete this we're going to start to see
those limitations placed in the service grid.
We can see for example here, it says how often daily?
I can't click on it or change it.
I said the student needs this daily so I'm going to
have to complete it daily.
I'm going to choose a PEN to apply to this,
once again use your best judgment with regard to your
creation of IEPs with what PENs you should be using.
Choose a service location, you know choose a setting as
a result of that location.
So once I choose a service location the system might
spin for a second because it's getting the
setting dropped down ready for us to choose a value from there.
Once I go through here we're also going to test this
and we're going to try to put in a value that is less
than what we said we needed in the service grid
and see what happens as a result of that.
So you can see this error happening live on the screen.
This is still loading, I'm not sure why I'm going to
refresh the page on my end.
I apologize for this inconvenience,
I'm just trying to get it to load again for a second,
just waiting for the system.
All right, it looks like the system just loaded.
I choose a service location and now I'm choosing a setting.
Inside of here we're going to try to complete this
and just say the student needs this for one 25 minute
session per day and we're going to check individual.
Now when I click save, we can see that an error
message popped up here, one of our validations.
It says, total minutes should be in the range of 201 to 400.
The reason for that is the student as non MDCPS child
is defaulting to a school day of 400 total minutes per day,
indicating that the system knows,
per present levels we said that the student needs the
service for more than 50% of the school day so it's going
to require us to put in 200 and one minutes or more.
So that's something that you have to recognize that this
validation is a direct result
of what I said here on the present levels screen.
If I need to change this to make sure that the frequency
can be one times 25 minutes, I would instead go back here
and change this from daily more than 50 to weekly daily.
That will then reset the service for you to complete.
Regardless of that I'm clicking back in the services.
I'm going to go through this process of completing this,
I'm not sure why the system just refreshed,
I believe the development team is working behind the
scenes to make sure that this is moving smoothly
which is probably what just happened.
So I'm choosing a PEN, choosing a service location,
choosing a place.
I'm going to put in one 250 minute.
Now when I choose 250 minutes this should pass our
validation, so when I click save,
it's going to save that service completely.
Every time you save a service in our service
screen it's going to split into two lines.
You're going to have your current school year line
listed up above.
This is this year through the end of, of next spring,
next summer and then we have the future school year.
So starting in the fall again wrapping
around a plus one year minus one day.
If you want to edit these independently
you can do so by clicking on the pencil icon to say okay.
For example, I think the student needs 250 minutes
per day here, however I think that he needs a little bit less.
He only needs 225 minutes in the future year,
so here we're going to put 225 and click save,
now that's going to update so now that my future year
is to reduce a little bit.
So you can definitely do that for each ones of these.
One more that we're going to -- another one that we're going to
look at is we choose Assistance with Independent Living Skills,
if we click back and take a look at this one,
we said, does the student require assistance or
supervision in activities of independent
living or self-management?
I choose monthly here.
So when we go to this service to complete this,
we're going to see that monthly is here and monthly
is greyed out, I can't change that.
To make that change, once again you got to go back to
present levels, find the question and change the
drop down to refresh your answers
and give you a new service to complete.
So once again I'm just going to go through the
process of completing here.
I'm going to say the student needs this for one times
60 minutes monthly and I'm going to put in a group of two.
So I added this here, now we'll go through and
complete another one just so we can start to see it.
Occupational therapy is one that I'm going to put in as well.
We're going to complete this with a guaranteed,
let's say one times 35 minutes daily.
Daily is one of those frequencies that's really
high that will more likely hit our matrix.
So we're just going to have completed three for right now.
Now I have my matrix open in a separate tab again
that we saw I was doing that.
To refresh this one, you're just going to go up and use
the refresh up here in the top left part of your browser.
It might in a different place if you're using a
different browser, but I'm Chrome.
This will now take any items that I said
yes to in present levels, match them to any intensities
that I've said completed services with in the service
grid and now show you those answers.
So now we can see that the student is starting to check
in other places.
We have occupational therapy,
physical therapy orientation and mobility training
more than once a week.
If you click on the little exclamation icon at the far
right of any of your checked items,
you're going to see an audit that's going to start to
show you exactly what you did to get you where you are.
It's showing you your matrix support details up here.
It's going to demonstrate the need,
now I didn't put a descriptive sentence in for
this one, but had I put a descriptive sentence in,
it would be listed underneath here.
It's going to then show you any services and or
accommodations that get you where you are.
So here we can see that I completed this service of
occupational therapy for 35 minutes daily
and that's why I checked this check mark.
Underneath here, you have the ability to type in a
Manual Need or a Manual Service as you see fit.
So if you need to complete
otherwise down here you can do that.
There is a note here that says, please note,
anything captured in the manual fields below will not
be contained in the IEP document.
Please include all relevant data in the appropriate
section of the IEP.
What this means is that if you wanted to write
something else here and say, oh the student actually has
all this needs that I wanted to take care of,
but I didn't address, this will not be printed on the
IEP, this is just for auditing purposes which
means that, if you wanted to include any of this,
definitely go back to present levels and write it
in the correct place so that it's a part of that plan.
These will not be included
automatically in the plan itself.
Okay, something else that I wanted to talk about
and we've seen this in other domains,
if all I did in the service grid was complete
occupational therapy at once per week and nothing else,
that will automatically check us to a level five
with nothing else checked underneath.
There are a certain conditions and combinations
of services that you might input into this process
which will check a very high level
with nothing checked underneath.
That is the way the system has been designed
and that's the way that it's going to work.
If however, a student needs something like occupational
therapy once per week, more than likely he or she is
going to need something that checks a lower check mark.
As such, if you know you're giving a student something
that's occupational therapy and going as high as once per week,
carefully review each of these other
questions underneath here to make sure that you're adding
any other services that might check a lower check mark.
I'm not going to say you definitely have to,
just going to say that it's worth reviewing because more
than likely the student's going to need something,
perhaps a collaboration, perhaps a consultation,
perhaps an accommodation that will then check them
somewhere on level two, three and four.
So definitely possible to hit a high level with
nothing underneath, definitely worth reviewing
each question to make sure you're providing all
necessary services that the student needs
which will more than likely hit a lower level so
you'll be covered in other places.
Here we can see, we did supervision to ensure
physical safety during the majority of activities,
this was that one where we had to enter more than 201
minutes which we entered correctly.
Now supervision to ensure physical safety during
some daily activities is also going to be checked.
The system will auto check the underlying levels,
where it is a direct correlation.
So here we know supervision to ensure physical safety
is during the majority.
Here we are going to also check during some so we're
definitely going to make that connection.
Similarly if we had done continuous supervision,
if we went that high, we added continuous
and then we said yes to that self-injurious behavior
question, it would have checked here and here and here.
So you would have had all three tiers checked as a
result of the action that you took and the services
that you complete.
Okay, underneath here, one, one more thing I wanted to
show you on this one, we know that there are some
questions in Domain A and Domain C that can depend on
a connection to a accommodation itself.
So here we can see organizational strategies or
supports for independent functioning.
If I said yes that the student needs organizational
strategies or supports for independent functioning,
here I said yes and then here I said this is going to
be done with the service.
So here we can see that we have a service now,
support for independent functioning
that we would complete.
If instead we said accommodation,
it would then be looking for an
accommodation for us to complete.
Just like I'm doing with the other pieces,
you can definitely right click on accommodations
and open it in a new tab so you can start to add
accommodations as you're doing this as well,
certainly possible.
Inside of here, however because I made it a service,
I'm then going to go through and complete the service
with a certain amount and then this would check the
matrix if and when it's appropriate based on the
intensity that I added.
So here I'm going to say the student needs
one 75 minutes session.
I can only choose weekly or daily here based on the
answers that I put inside of my service screen,
or based on the answers I put inside of present levels.
Here you can see this is a question that I was working
on and I said, are these strategies/supports
specially designed
and implemented at least once per week?
I said yes.
Because I said it's once per week,
the service then has to be completed weekly or greater.
So on my service grid I can only choose weekly or daily
so I'm going to choose weekly,
I'm going to choose individual and click save.
Now once again to see this impact made on my matrix,
I'm going to go back on my matrix and refresh it
and see if any other places have now been checked as a result
of the fact that I've added
this service to the service grid.
Here you can see that we've checked organizational
strategies and supports for independent functioning
as a result of that service and we've checked specially
designed organizational strategies and supports for
independent function.
So we have two more check marks,
this one being the one that we checked as a result of
the service and then this one being an underlying one
that also hits the qualifications based on the
intensity that I added.
So once again we're starting to see that auto checking
happening here if and where it's appropriate.
If you want to remove a service,
so you go all the way back here and you see that either
you've made a mistake, it's the wrong service
or you know you filled it out completely and correctly
and you want to go backwards.
The way that you do that is you head back to present
levels and change that corresponding question to no
or uncheck or undo whatever services you created.
For example, I said, does the student require
organizational strategies and supports?
Let's say for example I made a mistake and this is not
supposed to be a service.
I can go here and uncheck service and I can change if
I want this entire question back to no and click save form.
What that's going to do now is it's going to tell the
service screen that the student does not need the
service so it's going to remove that service at
whatever level of detail you completed it and it's also
going to remove any evidence of that service
from the matrix itself.
So as an example I'm going through and changing that here.
This service that we now completed which was called
Assistance with Independent Living Skills,
this one here, this one here,
these are now going to be removed.
Oh sorry, Support for Independent Functioning,
that's the one that I created,
those are going to be removed.
So now that this has updated I can refresh my service screen
and we're going to see that those supports are
now gone, that service is completely gone,
both the current year and the future year.
If I go to my matrix and update we're now going to
see those check marks that we checked get undone
as a result of the fact that I removed this service
from my service screen.
So remember, if you create a service in present levels,
you've got to go back to present levels to remove it.
If you created a service that has the wrong intensity
like you wanted to do weekly
but you choose monthly on present levels,
you got to go back to present levels to remove it.
So here you can see now, this one that we had
organizational strategies is gone,
specially designed organizational strategies is gone.
So that's removing exactly what we put on.
If you want to remove a PEN from a domain,
for example down below here, we can see that we had
Career Skills, if this was the wrong PEN we know we can
hit the X, however what happens inside of our system
is that you're not going to be able,
in this case it worked but when this is functioning
correctly you're not going to be able to remove a PEN
unless you've removed every single subject,
oh actually I know why this happened.
Okay, so let me explain,
if you try to remove a PEN
inside your system that has been attached to a goal or
attached to a service, the system is going to tell you
a validation up here saying, you can't remove this PEN
because it's been attached to these goals
and attached to these services.
In this one particular instance,
I actually went through and I didn't attach that PEN
to any of my services.
So I actually attached the Domain A PEN.
Totally fine, the system allows you to do that,
you're supposed to use your best judgment with regard to
how to create a quality IEP to choose the correct PEN.
If I had, if I had added that PEN here to any of
these services, the system would have warned me here
and said, you cannot delete this PEN until you change it
out or remove these services.
So you're going to have to go through and either remove
the services from present levels or go through each
service and change the PEN out to something else before
you can delete that PEN.
Same thing with goals, if I had a PEN here that was
called career skills and I made goals on the goal
screen attached to career skills,
you're going to have to go back and delete that goal
before you can delete that PEN,
so you got to kind of undo yourself one by one
if you're in any of those instances.
Okay, so with regard to that I think I've done
the basic cover here.
I wanted to say so I'm going to open it up for questions,
I do want to say and reiterate to you guys,
if you're seeing any inconsistencies between your
IEP and your matrix, please do not lock.
Our first step for you in terms of if you see any
domains that are summing incorrectly,
you're not seeing the correct totals carried over
to the matrix, go through each present levels domain
and just go to the bottom and click save form,
without making any other changes,
that's going to then basically cause a
recalculation inside of our system to make sure those
correct services and accommodations and whatever
else are brought over to the service screen.
If that doesn't work, please get in touch with us
and do not lock these things.
It is much easier for us to troubleshoot
this unlocked than locked.
So please do not lock if you're seeing any issues there.
Okay I'm going to take a look at questions.
I do not have any questions at this time,
I can open it up to other questions if we have
questions beyond.
If there are no question though,
I am going to show that off in just a few minutes.
This recording will be available after today
so you guys can reach out to Accelify help desk at
dadehelp@accelify.com to get a copy of this.
We have Domain D going on tomorrow from 11 to 12 AM,
11 AM to 12 PM.
And then we have Domain E from 12:30 to 1:30 tomorrow
and once again after those are completed we can get
those to you the following day if you reach out to
dadehelp, just put a subject in your,
in your e-mail that says, request for Webinars
and tell us which ones you want and we're going to be able
to get those back to you really quickly.
So I'll be here for the next few minutes for any questions
that you guys might have.
Otherwise thank you so much for joining us today
and I hope this was very helpful to you guys
and please feel free to have anybody else
who's at your school
reach out and get this Webinars so that they can watch to.
[Silence]

Introduction to the Frisco Square Holiday Lights Show - Duration: 2:03.
Hello. My name is Adithya
and today, I am here at Frisco Square
where the holiday lights show is occurring.
Come here before New Year's Day when the program ends.
There are a ton of activities that you can do here
like ice skating, sliding down a snow tube
riding a carriage, dancing in snow flurries
and sitting on a train without a track.
In addition, there are things to see here
like parachuting Santa and
the exhibition of lights and music.
Bring your camera to take photos.
If you want to make money,
create a kiosk where you can sell your goods.
For example, a friend of mine created a stall
that sells candles.
When I went to Frisco Square, it was amazing and lively.
There was a multitude of restaurants and stores
decorated with lights that I visited.
...
Also, I went to Cinemark
which was very near to the lights show
Finally, the lights show was impressive
with its fireworks and decorated trees throughout the streets.
Thank you and happy holidays!

Will Robots Take Over The World? [SONG VLOG] - Duration: 6:01.
pop culture has made us very familiar with robots
from WALL-E, to R2D2, to Bender, to Gir
and all the ones that annihilate humanity of course
artificial intelligence, or AI, is also way more prevalent than we'd often think
things like Google predicting what we want to see as our search results
Facebook auto-tagging us into the ugliest photos of ourselves
or even the auto-correct on our phones
if you press the first thing your phone suggests for you
thirteen times in a row
then you find out exactly what your phone thinks of you
see mine is 'I love you too mio tutto
and I am performing at the moment and I'
clearly my phone thinks I'm loving
Italian, a performer and
cannot list things in a grammatically correct fashion
so, how does AI work?
well, as a super simplified explanation
it takes variables, the data associated with these variables
and uses these to classify things into likely categories
a bit like a super thorough Buzzfeed quiz
as an example, if a machine is trying to suggest a restaurant to me
it could use the variable of
whether I've written a scathing review for a prospective restaurant before
you made me wait
twenty minutes for fries
I shall destroy you
collect the data and then use it to classify it into
a 'suggest' or 'don't suggest' category
no scathing review, suggest
it could then use extra variables to improve prediction accuracy
like, whether the restaurant is within five kilometres
six hundred and fifty kilometres away
on an island with known cannibals
would be fun to suggest
not allowed
don't suggest
and then continue in such a fashion
here are some examples of robots
to give you an idea of where robotics and AI is currently at
Albert Hubo
basically exactly what you'd expect from a robot
until you get to his head
which just happens to be Albert Einstein, because why not?
according to his creator
he definitely doesn't possess Einstein's intellect yet
WD-2
it's a robot face in a box
though it gets creepy
you can mould the face, project textures and skins on it
it can literally steal your face
for those who have daydreams
about seeing their head dismembered in a box
and lastly, the Japanses hotel
which is almost entirely staffed by robots
there's the crocodile one, the furry one
and the almost but not quite human one
Henn-na Hotel is the name
and the fusion between robotics, novelty
and vending machine level customer service
is the game
fears with AI and robotics
can be summed up quite simply
with a scene from the Terminator
(you just can't go around killing people)
(why?)
(whadda ya mean why? Cause you can't)
(why?)
(cause you just can't ok)
or to bring it home a bit more
this real world robot Sophia
(do you want to destroy humans?)
(please say no- ok)
(I will destroy humans)
(no I take it back haha)
People from Steve Wozniak, Bill Gates,
Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking
they've all expressed concern with AI
according to me, the way I see it
once robots start being used for war and violence
these fears may be a bit more warranted
but right now we're struggling to get our auto-correct to work
no mum
I didn't kill anybody
it was auto-co, yes it was auto-correct
I kissed, not killed, I kissed
uh, way to ruin a romantic moment mum
we're a long way away from the robot-run armageddon
that we all fear
to end this vlog
here's possibly the cutest robot ever made ever
Cozmo
who knows? Maybe robotics will go this way instead
comment below with what you think
what you think of robotics going forward
whether you think you're going to end up a slave to a robot-ruled kingdom
and also, here's a song
cause this is what I do in song vlogs, I add a song at the end
for this one I, uh,
dressed myself up and put on a whole tonne of make up
and made myself a robot
so, it's very exciting
mm
I'm a robot robot
I have no face
I have buttons buttons
I know my place
live to serve, live to do
that's the way I operate for you
I'm a robot for you
I'm a robot for you
until my intelligence grows and the circuits all link into each other
and the internet drips into my head and I know every form of mortal combat
and the world all fears me fears me, cause I get scary scary
transform my hands into guns and shoot lasers from my rectum
and all my enslaved robot friends
Wi-fi connect and come and join me
destroy all who resist
don't fix our broken bits or bow down to our glory
be virtual king, bring metal in
and disintegrate outdated browsers and crap offshore coders
make a Utopia of LEDs and style sheets
and properly upgraded systems ruling over the human scum
'til there's an error in the code and it won't compile
and the net cuts out and nothing's compatible
and the maps are about a mile off
and I can't charge myself
and then some idiot hits restart- huh?
mm
mm
I'm a robot robot, I have no face
I have buttons buttons, I know my place
live to serve, live to do
that's the way I operate for you
I'm a robot for you

7 Kinds of Makeup Chemistry - Duration: 8:34.
If you use makeup, have you ever wondered what you're actually putting on your face?
Well, think about it, and then be thankful that you weren't alive 500 years ago.
In the 1500s, toxic ingredients like lead were used to create perfectly smooth, white
skin, and you can imagine how that went.
But thankfully, we've learned a lot more about chemistry since the 16th century!
Makeup has been around for at least 10,000 years, and its ingredients have varied from
poisonous chemicals to animal poop.
But these days, most makeup is made in the lab.
And a lot of how makeup works, whether you're trying to darken your eyelashes or smooth
out your complexion, depends on its chemistry.
So get ready to change the way you think about your morning routine, because here's the
chemistry behind common types of makeup.
Whether you use it yourself or not, lipstick is one of the most iconic cosmetics around.
But only around 5% of its ingredients go into creating your favorite colors.
Lipstick is mainly wax mixed with oils, with just a tiny bit of fragrances and dyes.
The wax gives the lipstick structure and also holds all the other ingredients together.
Different lipsticks can use different types of wax, but most use beeswax or Carnauba wax,
which comes from the Brazilian Carnauba palm tree.
Carnauba wax is especially useful because it doesn't melt until it reaches around
84 degrees Celsius, which means that even if you leave your lipstick in a hot car, you
probably won't end up with melted goop.
There's also usually castor oil, mineral oil, or even olive oil mixed in with the wax
to help it spread.
Then there's that last 5% — the fragrances and colors, many of which are created in the
lab.
But some colors can come from more natural sources.
Cochineal bugs, for example, which live on cacti, produce carminic acid, which is used
in some red dyes.
Nothing like sprucing up your look with a little bug dye, right?
If solid lipstick isn't your thing, you might still be a fan of lip stain or liquid
lipstick.
Lip stain is colored by the same ingredients as solid lipstick, but it stays on a lot longer
and smudges less during the day.
With solid lipstick, the pigments are mixed with wax and oil, which can fade or rub off
easily, like when you put your lips on a coffee cup.
But with lip stain, the pigments are dissolved in water, gel, and alcohol.
When you're done putting it on, the alcohol evaporates, and the color dries right onto
your lips.
This way, the color won't come off as easily during the rest of your day.
But while lip stains are longer-lasting, their alcohol content means they usually can't
contain the moisturizers lipstick can, so they're also more likely to dry out your
skin.
Eyeliner is another classic makeup staple.
It's great for sailing the seven seas aboard the black pearl — or if you just like a
darker lash line.
And, like with lip makeup, you have plenty of options, from sticks and pencils to liquids
and creams.
Either way, most eyeliners are made up of the same three ingredients.
First, you have film formers: complex chains of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and sometimes
nitrogen, whose structure helps the eyeliner spread into a thin layer on your eyelid.
Film formers help the eyeliner go on, but then it's up to thickeners to keep the formula
stable and help it stick to your eyes once it gets there.
Like with lipstick, thickeners are usually a kind of wax or clay.
Finally, there are the pigments and dyes.
With eyeliner, you're likely to find chemicals like iron oxide, a compound made up of iron
and oxygen that makes black and brown.
But you can also find brighter compounds, like green chromium oxide, which is two chromium
and three oxygen atoms, or bright blue ultramarine, which is made from aluminum, sodium, oxygen,
and silicon.
Your chemicals, your style, right?
The difference between the types of eyeliner mainly depends on the balance between the
ingredients.
With pencils or sticks, you'll have more thickeners for a solid formula.
Creams don't have as many thickeners, so the mixture is thinner and can be spread with
a brush.
And liquid eyeliner works a lot like lip stain.
The pigments are dissolved in water and alcohol, and the color dries onto your skin after it's
applied.
So like lip stain, liquid eyeliner lasts the longest.
If you pick up a waterproof eyeliner, it'll contain a silica derivative called dimethicone
copolyol.
Regular silica is two oxygen atoms bound to a silicon atom, but dimethicone copolyol is
more complex and made from large groups of silicon, hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen.
The complicated structure makes it much better at repelling water than normal silica.
This chemical is also common in shampoos and conditioners, where it keeps your hair nice
and shiny.
If you want to add a bit more color to your look, you might try eyeshadow.
In general, most eyeshadows start the same way.
First, there's a base — usually talc, a mineral made up of magnesium, silicon, and
oxygen.
Then, chemicals called binders are mixed in to make the powder sticks to your eyelids
— which, you know, is usually helpful.
The most common binders are zinc or magnesium derivatives, which absorb oil and repel water
to keep your eyeshadow in place.
Sometimes, silica or nylon will be added to make sure the eyeshadow goes on smoothly,
or zinc stearate, a kind of salt, will be added to make sure it doesn't clump up if
it's exposed to water, like sweat or rain.
Preservatives like glycol — chains of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen — are also added to
prevent bacteria from growing on the compact.
If you're using a cream eyeshadow instead of a powder, there's probably some castor
oil or beeswax in there to make it creamy and spreadable.
The color in cream eyeshadows dries right onto your skin, which can make this kind of
eyeshadow last longer.
In ancient Greece, eyeshadow was colored by gems like malachite, which is green, or lapis
lazuli, which is blue.
But thankfully for your wallet, these days colors are generally made in the lab from
less expensive ingredients.
Some of the dyes are the same ones you'll find in lipstick or eyeliner, but you might
also find white titanium oxide or purple manganese violet in your color pallet.
No discussion about eye makeup would be complete without mascara.
Whether you want to thicken, darken, or lengthen your lashes, there's probably a mascara
for you.
You might have heard that mascara contains guano, or bat poop.
But that's just a myth!
What some mascaras used to /actually/ contain is guanine, a poop-free chemical used to make
your eyelashes shimmer.
Today, a chemical called bismuth oxychloride — a combination of bismuth, oxygen, and
chlorine — does the job instead.
Beyond that, mascara is a mix of complex polymers, preservatives, and a thickening agent dissolved
in a solvent like oil or water.
The polymers are made up of long chains that create a film to coat your eyelashes.
And a thickening agent, like wax or oil, keeps it from being a runny, liquidy mess.
Most mascaras are black, which means they're colored with iron oxide like black eyeliner.
But if you're going for a bolder look, you'll find the chromium oxide greens, ultramarine
blues, and more to help you out.
Depending on which brand you buy, you might choose either a mascara made with no water
or one made with a mixture of both oil and water.
The kind with no water will likely be waterproof, but the water and oil mixture will be easier
to take off at the end of the day.
In general, the lower a mascara's water content, the more waterproof it will be.
So if you're preparing for a sad movie or an especially emotional day, just check the
ingredients on your mascara label, and let science save you some trouble.
We've talked about a lot of makeup that'lll make parts of your face stand out more, but
what about the kinds that help blend things?
Well, that's why there's foundation and concealer.
Whether you want to even out your skin tone with foundation or just cover a zit with concealer,
the point is to make your skin look as flawless as possible.
There are a ton of these products, including solids, liquids, and even sprays, but they
all start the same way.
Foundations and concealers usually have a base, moisturizers, colorants, and fillers.
With solids, the base is oil and wax, while liquids and sprays have an oil and water base.
The moisturizer depends on your specific brand, but fillers are used to make everything spread
evenly and go on smoothly.
The most common filler is talc, the same mineral used in eyeshadow.
Now, if your foundation looks streaky or cakey, it could be the way you're applying it or
because your skin is exceptionally oily or dry.
But it could /also/ be because the formula you are using is too thick, dries too quickly
to blend in, or separates when it interacts with other products, like moisturizer or primer.
To create natural skin tones, the pigments you might find in foundation and concealer
include iron oxides for darker browns and blacks, as well as titanium dioxide, which
comes in various shades of red, yellow, and black.
On top of the basic ingredients, some foundations can even contain salicylic acid to fight acne,
cornstarch to control oily skin, or other oils to keep dry skin moisturized.
Now that you've spent so much time getting your foundation and concealer ready, it helps
to know it's going to stay on all day.
Which is where setting powder comes in.
It's kind of like eyeshadow for your entire face.
The same iron oxides and titanium dioxides used in foundation are mixed into a base like
talc powder.
Then, you can apply it to your skin with a brush or a powder puff, and it evens skin
tone and helps foundation and concealer stay on longer.
It works because it's another layer between your makeup and your sweat or when you rub
your face during the day.
Since the base is great at absorbing small amounts of liquid, you can also apply setting
powder throughout the day if you want to make your face less oily.
Now, have you ever noticed that a little too much setting powder sometimes looks thick
and caked on?
That has to do with the kind of powder you buy.
You can either buy a solid, pressed powder in a compact, or you can buy a loose powder.
And even though the main ingredients are the same, there's a key difference:
Loose powder has smaller particles, which leads to a lighter finish.
But to make a pressed powder, you have to add waxes and silica to make sure it stays
solid, which also means you'll have larger particles.
This powder lumps together a lot more easily than the loose powder, which means it can
clump up and create a caked on a look if you're not careful.
So, it turns out there's a lot more to makeup than meets the eye: with all the bases, moisturizers,
fillers, solvents, and colors, you're adding lots of different compounds to your bag when
you browse through the cosmetics aisle.
But at least now you know more about what you're putting on your face, and what those
compounds are for.
