The Double-Slit Experiment - Duration: 4:23.

Professor Dave here, let's talk about the

double slit experiment.

In learning about the first few discoveries

that led to the development of quantum

mechanics, we discussed wave-particle

duality, so we understand that both light

and matter behave as both particles and

waves. But we glossed over some of the

technical details, so let's zoom in for a

moment. In 1801, Thomas Young performed

experiments where light was passed

through a plane with two slits in it,

striking a screen beyond. The diffraction

and interference patterns that resulted

clearly supported the wave model of

light, with the brighter bands

representing constructive interference

and the darker bands representing

destructive interference, with the width

of the bands being a function of the

frequency of the light. Later in the

century, Maxwell showed that light is a

wave of oscillating electric and

magnetic fields, so it seemed as though

the case was closed on the declaration

of light as waves. But as we said, in 1905

Einstein solved the problem of the

photoelectric effect by assigning

particle nature to light, thus wave

particle duality was born. Later, de

Broglie proposed that particles must

therefore also display wave-like

behavior, and this was shown to be true

in an experiment just like Young's more

than 100 years prior. This modern version

is what we are typically referring to

when we talk about the double-slit

experiment. From this it was shown that a

beam of electrons exhibits diffraction

and interference patterns just like

light does. This demonstrates the

wave-like properties of electrons and by

extension matter in general. Later, low

intensity experiments showed that even

an individual electron when passing

through biprisms or slits will

interfere with itself, making the wave-like

nature of the electron undeniable.

So it was shown that electrons act as both

particles and waves, but not just

electrons, neutrons were also shown to

exhibit diffraction patterns. It must be

understood that since all particles are

also waves, literally any object could

hypothetically exhibit a diffraction

pattern, so long as the object passes

through an aperture roughly the size of

the objects wavelength. But remember that

massive objects have incredibly tiny

wavelengths, so for something like a

human being to diffract, they would have

to pass through an aperture around 10 to

the negative 36 meters wide, which is a

trillionth of a trillionth of a

trillionth of a meter, so this will be

pretty tough no matter how much you diet.

In this way, we begin to see how

Newtonian mechanics is not the

fundamental descriptor of motion, but

rather that it emerges from quantum

mechanics as objects become large enough

that their wavelengths are negligible, so

don't worry, everything you learned in

classical physics will still work just

fine for any object you can see with

your eyes. But along with these waves of

matter came the wave function and the

quest to describe it mathematically.

This would be impossible without the creation

of quantum mechanics, which was achieved

by a host of brilliant minds, but we will

focus on two people in particular: Erwin

Schrodinger and Werner Heisenberg.

Let's move forward and see what they had to

say on the subject.

Thanks for watching, guys. Subscribe to my channel for

Why It's Hard To Talk About and Report Child Abuse - Duration: 4:33.

[pencil writing]

[Pokemon game sound]

Last week, I made a very last minute video called "Child Abuse Is Not A Prank Or A Joke"

and it was, in fact, about the DaddyOFive controversy.

Well, not only that.

It was also about my experience.

I've dealt with abuse since I was 7-years-old.

That is a very long time.

And over the years I've been on the Internet, I never talked about it in detail outside of Tumblr.

Last week's video was the first time that I talked about what happened to me on my YouTube channel.

In a way, I wasn't ready, I really wasn't ready,

but after seeing the videos from DaddyOFive and Philip DeFranco,

I couldn't just sit down and stay still.

When stuff like this comes to light, and some cases in the past have come to light by news and elsewhere,

people often say,

"They need to report this."

"Why don't they talk about this?"

"Why don't they tell someone?"

I want to talk about why it's so hard to talk about this kind of stuff and especially to report it.

Sometimes, people don't believe us.

Especially if it's the mother who is the abuser.

Because the mother is usually automatically seen as this sweet, nurturing person that could do no wrong

and will always love her child unconditionally.

Sometimes, people find out and they don't do anything about it, or they give up.

I reported my abuse to my middle school guidance counselor when I was 12.

I remember crying my eyes out, grabbing a bunch of tissues, hyperventilating,

and trying to eat a lollipop that the counselor gave me so I would calm down.

My counselor's solution was to write a letter to my abuser asking her to come in

and to have a conversation about what was going on.

She read the letter, yelled at me about it, and didn't go.

She wanted absolutely nothing to do with it.

I go to my counselor again the next morning and she had no other solutions.

She didn't want to try to do anything else, and she didn't report it further.

To make things even worse, even though stuff like this is already really bad,

Sometimes, there are cases of people literally seeing the abuse happen in front of their eyes

and they don't do anything about it.

Zahra Baker is the perfect example of this.

The murder of Zahra Baker was a huge case in North Carolina.

Zahra Baker was a 10-year-old girl who went through a lot.

She was diagnosed with bone cancer and as a result, lost a leg and her hearing.

Long story short, she was abused by her stepmother.

She went to school with injuries such as a black eye and

even though the family was checked up on, nothing really went through.

Now, her neighbours did see her being abused.

Her neighbours reported to the news as witnesses that they did see it happen in front of their own eyes.

But nobody did anything about it.

Nobody stepped up to try to save this child.

As a result, Zahra Baker was killed and her stepmother was guilty and is now in prison.

Sometimes, people get a little too invasive.

They start asking all of these questions.

Some of it is just genuine curiosity, but as it starts to go on and on, it almost starts to sound like judgment.

"Well, why haven't you told anyone?"

"Did you tell your other parent or anyone else in your family?"

"Why haven't you left?"

As if just suddenly packing up and leaving is an easy solution.

Because to one person who might ask these questions,

it doesn't matter if you don't have the income or the means to take care of yourself if you did leave.

But let me tell you, even if you packed and left, what happens if you end up homeless as a result?

That has and does happen.

If you don't have family or friends to take you in, what are you going to do?

Sometimes, it's easier to stay so you can still have a roof over your head, a bed to sleep in, and food to eat.

It isn't as easy as people think.

I'm not the only person that this has happened to.

Zahra Baker isn't the only person to have died as a result of child abuse.

This happens to so many kids and teenagers everyday.

Can everybody swoop in and be Superman, Superwoman, Superperson and save every child

and put them into a healthy environment?

Probably not.

It's probably not realistic.

But it's just so hard talking about this kind of stuff when you know that it doesn't always work.

Sometimes, you'll take the risk and it pays off.

Sometimes, you'll take the risk and it turns out nobody believes you and you just feel stuck and hurt.

And sometimes, people just don't care.

But, sometimes, things do work out and when that happens, that is a really good thing.

That's why child abuse is so hard to talk about.

Why should you read Tolstoy's "War and Peace"? - Brendan Pelsue - Duration: 5:10.

"War and Peace,"

a tome,

a slog,

the sort of book you shouldn't read in bed because if you fall asleep,

it could give you a concussion, right?

Only partly.

"War and Peace" is a long book, sure,

but it's also a thrilling examination of history,

populated with some of the deepest, most realistic characters you'll find anywhere.

And if its length intimidates you, just image how poor Tolstoy felt.

In 1863, he set out to write a short novel about a political dissident

returning from exile in Siberia.

Five years later, he had produced a 1,200 page epic

featuring love stories,

battlefields,

bankruptcies,

firing squads,

religious visions,

the burning of Moscow,

and a semi-domesticated bear,

but no exile and no political dissidents.

Here's how it happened.

Tolstoy, a volcanic soul,

was born to a famously eccentric aristocratic family in 1828.

By the time he was 30, he had already dropped out of Kazan University,

gambled away the family fortune,

joined the army,

written memoirs,

and rejected the literary establishment to travel Europe.

He then settled into Yasnaya Polyana, his ancestral mansion,

to write about the return of the Decembrists,

a band of well-born revolutionaries pardoned in 1856 after 30 years in exile.

But, Tolstoy thought,

how could he tell the story of the Decembrists return from exile

without telling the story of 1825,

when they revolted against the conservative Tsar Nicholas II?

And how could he do that without telling the story of 1812,

when Napoleon's disastrous invasion of Russia

helped trigger the authoritarianism the Decembrists were rebelling against?

And how could he tell the story of 1812 without talking about 1805,

when the Russians first learned of the threat Napoleon posed

after their defeat at the Battle of Austerlitz?

So Tolstoy began writing,

both about the big events of history

and the small lives that inhabit those events.

He focused on aristocrats, the class he knew best.

The book only occasionally touches

on the lives of the vast majority of the Russian population,

who were peasants, or even serfs,

farmers bound to serve the owners of the land on which they lived.

"War and Peace" opens on the eve of war between France and Russia.

Aristocrats at a cocktail party fret about the looming violence,

but then change the topic to those things aristocrats always seem to care about:

money,

sex,

and death.

This first scene is indicative

of the way the book bounces between the political and personal

over an ever-widening canvas.

There are no main characters in "War and Peace."

Instead, readers enter a vast interlocking web

of relationships and questions.

Will the hapless and illegitimate son of a count

marry a beautiful but conniving princess?

Will his only friend survive the battlefields of Austria?

And what about that nice young girl falling in love with both men at once?

Real historical figures mix and mingle with all these fictional folk,

Napoleon appears several times,

and even one of Tolstoy's ancestors plays a background part.

But while the characters and their psychologies are gripping,

Tolstoy is not afraid to interrupt the narrative

to pose insightful questions about history.

Why do wars start?

What are good battlefield tactics?

Do nations rise and fall on the actions of so-called great men like Napoleon,

or are there larger cultural and economic forces at play?

These extended digressions are part of what make "War and Peace"

so panoramic in scope.

But for some 19th century critics,

this meant "War and Peace" barely felt like a novel at all.

It was a "large, loose, baggy monster," in the words of Henry James.

Tolstoy, in fact, agreed.

To him, novels were a western European form.

Russian writers had to write differently because Russian people lived differently.

"What is 'War and Peace'?" he asked.

"It is not a novel.

Still less an epic poem.

Still less a historical chronicle.

'War and Peace' is what the author wanted and was able to express

in the form in which it was expressed."

It is, in other words, the sum total of Tolstoy's imaginative powers,

and nothing less.

By the time "War and Peace" ends,

Tolstoy has brought his characters to the year 1820,

36 years before the events he originally hoped to write about.

In trying to understand his own times,

he had become immersed in the years piled up behind him.

The result is a grand interrogation into history,

culture,

philosophy,

psychology,

and the human response to war.

10 Reasons Why You Should Take Magnesium - Duration: 3:17.

Has your get-up-and-go disappeared?

We may not be aware of the vital role that magnesium plays in our health and wellness

– until it's deficient; then we notice its value.

A magnesium-deficiency can trigger fatigue, muscles aches, anxiety, and insomnia.

Actually, it is involved in more than 300 functions.

Our body contains approximately 25 grams of magnesium, and keeps it stashed in various

internal reservoirs.

More than half is stored in our bones, and the remainder is allocated to muscles and

soft tissues.

In today's video we will identify 10 reasons why you should keep your body supplied with

magnesium.

1.

Increases Energy Magnesium is engaged in energy production.

When magnesium levels are low, you may often feel zapped.

2.

Calms Anxiety One of magnesium's duties is to produce

serotonin, which ushers in relaxation and tranquility.

3.

Fights Insomnia Magnesium can overpower cortisol – a stress

hormone – and allow you to enjoy a better night's sleep.

4.

Aids In Digestion Our digestive systems needs to be fully operational

in order for us to enjoy good health.

Magnesium gets to work to keep things in motion and ensure smooth digestion.

5.

Relieves Muscle Spasms Contracted, tight muscles – or muscle spasms

- may be trying to tell you to increase your magnesium intake.

Consider adding it as a daily supplement and see if those muscles don't shape up.

6.

Heart Health As a muscle, the heart benefits greatly from

this mineral.

Magnesium helps control blood pressure levels and promote overall heart health.

7.

Prevent Migraines Studies continue to reveal that those who

suffer with migraines typically have a magnesium deficiency.

Adding a magnesium supplement may be just the right remedy your head needs.

8.

Helps Prevent Osteoporosis Magnesium is essential for proper calcium

absorption and therefore, increases bone density.

It can even help prevent osteoporosis.

For those who have it, magnesium can help reverse bone loss.

9.

Regulates Calcium and Potassium Levels These three minerals work in concert to maintain

blood pressure, and ensure the proper functioning of tissues, cells and organs.

10.

Supports Brain Health Magnesium stands like an armed guard for your

brain.

It denies entrance of stress hormones which could led to depression.

BH4U | What Causes Water Retention And How To Avoid It - Duration: 4:23.

[music]

What Causes Water Retention And How To Avoid It

Swellings in the hands, feet, and legs are a result of water retention, or otherwise

known as edema.

Edema is manifested by the buildup of fluids in the tissues, circulatory system, and cavities.

The most common reasons for water retention include premenstrual syndrome, physical inactivity,

sedentary lifestyle, pregnancy, and use of certain medications.

Swellings often occur during a long flight as well.

Edema is most often not serious, but at times, it can indicate a kidney disease or heart

failure.

Due to this, you should always find a way to treat edema.

These are the main reasons for water retention and ways to treat it:

1.Excessive Consumption of Processed Foods

Processed foods are loaded with sugar and sodium, which is one of the main causes of

edema.

They are also rich artificial food additives which have toxic nature, and thus put a load

on the kidneys and the liver.

Foods high in sugar lead to insulin spikes and high blood sugar.

2.Excessive Sodium Intake

In case you consume foods rich in sodium and do not drink enough water, the body will start

using the reserves, leading to edema.

With the help of water, the human cells can expand up to 20 times.

Sodium is also added to processed meat, canned vegetables, condiments, etc.

You should avoid table salt and start using Celtic and Himalayan sea salt.

3.Dehydration Dehydration occurs when a person does not

drink sufficient amounts of water.

In this case, the body retains water to survive, and this causes swellings in the body.

Remember to avoid coffee and soda drinks, and drink more water.

4.Vitamin B6 deficiency

The lack of vitamin B6 in the body often causes water retention.

The Journal of Caring Sciences published a study which involved women who experienced

water retention due to premenstrual syndrome.

The intake of vitamin B6 daily improved their condition.

Since it is water soluble, it is best to consume it in the form of whole foods.

Foods rich in it include tuna, sunflower seeds, pistachio nuts, potatoes with skin, dried

fruits, chicken, lean beef, turkey, and bananas.

5.Magnesium Deficiency

Edema is often caused by the lack of magnesium in the body, which is an essential mineral

for numerous bodily functions.

Researchers have found that the daily dose of 200 milligrams can reduce water retention

in women with premenstrual symptoms.

Therefore, make sure you consume more magnesium rich foods, like nuts, whole grains, dried

fruits, peas, spinach, dark green veggies, dark chocolate, and avocados.

6.Potassium Deficiency

Potassium is vital for the proper function of cells, tissues, and organs in the body,

and it regulates the water balance.

If you consume high amounts of salt and not enough foods rich in potassium, you will experience

edema.

Potassium reduces water retention as it reduces the sodium levels.

Rockmelons, watermelons, and honey melons are especially rich in it.

The following plants have potent diuretic properties and thus effectively reduce water

retention: Garlic, Nettle, Hibiscus, Horsetail, Dandelion, Parsley, Fennel, Corn silk

7 Pieces Of Career Advice To Cybersecurity Newbies From Renowned Experts - Duration: 3:59.

- The way you have a great career in technology

is you do what you're passionate about.

There is so much demand.

There are so many opportunities.

There are so many options.

Don't study the thing they tell you to,

study what stimulates your passions.

That's how you'll be happiest,

and that's where you'll find the best work.

- The thing about learning PowerShell is that

it's a language.

It's like if I was trying to learn Polish,

I would need to use it every day in order to become

fluent in it.

And so PowerShell is the same way.

You have to find ways to use it everyday.

That's the big number one

- Well if they're a young, new person, then they've

probably a lot of the skill set, which is mobile,

because they live on their mobile devices all day long,

and that's the way the world's going,

so they've got a great start there.

But as far as the rest of the Configuration Manager

space, it's spending some time with the solution,

again, whether it's training, or whether it's attending

a training class, or self-learning on the TechNet

Virtual Labs, or Microsoft Virtual Academy sessions

that they have out there,

you need to spend time to learn the solution,

because it is very complicated.

I was there for 22 years and I still don't understand

everything about Configuration Manager.

So nobody does, so don't get your hopes up

that you're going to get there,

because nobody is going to ever get there.

It just takes a while, a long time,

plus they release new versions every four months now,

and things change every single release.

So it takes a long time.

You just have to be patient, take small chunks,

bite off those small chunks, get to the point where

you're comfortable in mastering one of them,

then move on to the next area.

- Windows Internals, so take Windows Internals training,

shameless plug from me,

but take Windows Internals training.

That's the core that you will then build on

by maybe getting good security training

from some other company.

So there's good base.

Build on the base, learn the basics,

just totally my advice.

Remember it still takes 100 people at Microsoft

to know everything about Windows,

so if you believe you know everything, forgot that misbelief

and just learn more.

- Take the IT stuff out of it.

Let's talk about just the skill set you need.

And so the conversation was really very specific

to what skill-set do you need for that role,

or that company, because different companies' cultures
