you really have to have an high IQ to understand battlefield 5 turning
battlefield 5 into a game as a service straight out means cutting development
cost and we get a half-finished game this is the equivalent of a loot box you
never know what you're gonna get if you haven't guessed it from my intro I'm not
really happy with battlefield 5 my favorite multiplayer shooter has become
my greatest nightmare you think souls games are frustrating
try to be a battlefield fanboy EA and dice trying their hardest ruin the
experience and in retrospect if you look at the history of battlefield 5 it is
clear as a crisp spring morning battlefield 5 was doomed from the
beginning this video should give you an insight of the current state of the
triple a multiplayer game market and an in-depth float on how not to market your
game with the textbook example of battlefield 5 as a longtime battlefield
fan it is time to stop tiptoeing around the problem the disaster that is the
fifth entry in this serious battlefield games are known for the large-scale
battles and its quote-unquote realism in contrast to his biggest competitor Call
of Duty which focuses on fast movement and short reaction times battlefield was
all about securing an advantage point and coordinated team play these
large-scale battles with tanks planes and helicopters made you feel like a
soldier in a real firefight but not anymore
with the changes that EA and dice made with battlefield 5 they really shot
themselves in the foot and took away their unique selling point and the devil
is out of the box too battlefield 5 soulless copies in retail and
battlefield hardline let's talk about the shit show that was the battlefield 5
release and the aftermath of one of the worst marketing campaigns I have ever
seen a company so out of touch with its fanbase that drivers the lead-up to the
Xbox one launch fortunately we have a product for people who are
able to get some form connectivity it's called xbox 360 right so stick with 360
that's your message if you know well oh my god so in the first half of this
video we are talking about the whole controversy that led up to the launch of
battlefield 5 and in the second half we're gonna take a look at the game
itself so grab yourself some pizza and a coffee and let's talk about how
battlefield 5 didn't just die it was murdered it all sounded like
sunshine and rainbows when battlefield 5 was announced nice promise to take
battlefield back to its roots with its World War 2 setting no season pass only
cosmetical microtransactions everyone gets the free dlc and on top of that a
battle royale mode would be added later to the game it seemed like EA had
learned from their mistakes it seemed like the battlefront to disaster had
left a wiser but oh boy we were in for right down the mouth of madness so in a
well-thought-out attempt to place all their interest groups and to appeal to a
wider audience EA and dice released the first trailer
for Battlefield 5 where we saw a fever soldier with a prosthetic arm and a
cricket bat be the privileged white males exaggerated color palettes
360 nose-diving through windows it is all there to say a few longtime benefit
fans were unhappy might be an understatement a few fans added that
this might not be 100% historically accurate so EA and dice decided to play
the good old if you don't like this trailer then you hate women cart which
seems to be a common practice in community management to deflect
criticism these days and it never works the problem here are not women in video
games there is absolutely no shortage on baddest women in gaming and no one ever
better than I the real problem here is taking a well-established franchise and
forcing your politic agender into it it was pure arrogance
from Ian theis that they felt the need to lecture their fanbase on what they
have to want and what they have to love to top things off the design director of
battlefield 5 stated in an official interview that he wanted to push female
soldiers into battlefield 5 so he doesn't have to explain to his daughter
why she can't play as a female character in world war 2 and then added that he
will find himself on the right side of history oh boy where do I even begin
with a statement like that first of all you should always try to separate your
private from your professional life pushing your personal agenda into
historical setting is definitely not the way to go and adding to the hypocrisy is
that one of the single-player missions is based on real-life events but instead
of the elite male soldiers that carried out this mission in EA's right side of
history it's done by a 15 year girl so the question is is it politically
incorrect to be historically accurate dicen da decided to rewrite history to
fuel their agenda and there were a real woman that fought in World War two
why not tell their story instead or make up a fictional one why take a real-life
event and turn it upside down there is nothing wrong with having a diverse cast
of characters in a fictional setting like Mass Effect Dragon Age but if
you're trying to portray actual events this might be a bit out of place and if
we were talking about hypocrisy and twisting recent historical events you
don't have to look far when it comes to EA if you check their official web page
EA boosts themselves with being company of the year when in reality they are
nowhere to be found on this list instead year was awarded worst company in
America twice but hey historically accuracy seems to be not their fame and
then came the heavy hit right before the beta release on which now former EA
executive Patrick Sutherland decided to state in an interview
if you don't like the game then don't buy it and you are uneducated if you
don't understand that women had a part in World War two - which blew up the
whole controversy and fueled the outrage of longtime fans even war and we are
talking about an official representative of EA here this is not some low-level
program and it just went sees frustration this is an executive in
charge and it's PR basics that you don't assault loyal customers and this is
where we come full circle to Microsoft and the Xbox one launch where the Xbox
executive stated if you don't like the Xbox one always online features and no
used games policy then keep playing on your Xbox 360 and Microsoft is
recovering from the high horse statement ever since there were some other
instances to word eyes decided on an internal official launch event to mark
critics of their game which further proves that these guys have completely
lost their touch but if you are dead cocky that arrogant you must have a
product that really blows the audience out of their seats so let's take a look
at the actual game battlefield 5 in a nutshell
so here we are two months ago battlefield 5 was released the first
battlefield that isn't a full game by the service and the first free updates
out so let's start with the good first the graphics look great and the
soundtrack is epic and large-scale and if you let the controversy aside then
even the single-player war stories are well done the short length made them
easily digestible and the newly updated episode the last Tiger shows the German
side of the war which is a nice switch in perspective and gave an interesting
insight on the other side of the war and is a step in the right direction but
battlefield was always about large-scale multiplayer battles and this is where
the whole games as a service fing crumbles battlefield 5 fails to bring
something new to the table if you play battlefront 2 you know exactly what I'm
talking about the gameplay is dumped down and feels pretty mediocre there are
only a few maps I mean this game is called battlefield but it's battlefields
lack personality the maps are very flat and have a lot of open spaces which
makes battles for the attacking side a real pain and in order to encourage a
fast gameplay loop the time to kill was shortened meaning assault players have a
huge advantage over all other classes running and gunning is the go-to
strategy which makes it nearly impossible to be an efficient recon
player and since everyone can heal their squad mates now being Americans become
redundant because out of all classes their weapons are the weakest and in
contrast the assault weapons are for some reason more powerful and to top
things off the spotting mechanic has been revamped there is no traditional
spotting anymore you can only mark areas on the map where enemies could be but
with the fast pace of the gameplay most of the time these enemies are long gone
before your squad mates can identify a target
so it's pretty much pointless and the focus is on constant movement which
gives the battlefield 5 experience a Call of Duty flavor until battlefield 5
every battlefield brought something new to the table the large all-out battles
from Bad Company 2 benefit free with its spot-on modern war feel the LEvolution
from battlefield 4 and battlefield ones behemoths at the end of every round made
the last push really intense but what makes benefit 5 stand apart what unique
features has the new battlefield the only new gameplay option are the
building mechanics but they are bare bone you can only fortify around
objectives in certain predefined spots it is simplified to the max and with the
new updates it seemed like EA wants to push the squad gameplay even more they
recently added squad conquest and eight vs8 conquest variant focuses more on
small scale battles if I want to play short fast-paced matches up my cart
give me the large epic scale battles that battlefield is known for as a
longtime Battlefield fan it is really frustrating to see battlefield go down
this route I really tried to love battlefield 5 but the whole controversy
and the half-assed and standardized ice gameplay sucks all the fun out of the
matches yes proving once again that they are so far of the track they don't even
know what they are doing anymore the first signs that things weren't going
according to year's plan showed a few weeks after release a huge price drop for
Battlefield 5 which is never a good sign and a finger to the face for day 1 bias
that bought the game on release for full price and behold the official retail
sales for the first week are in too which is were the biggest junk of the lifetime
sales of most games come from and to all our surprise battlefield 5 didn't sold
very well it was even outsold by the battlefield communities darling
Hardline the last game from visceral games before it was shut down by EA
because apparently nobody is interested in single-player games anymore
yes EA said that too and oh boy do I love it when a comment like that comes
full circle to haunt you because here we are in 2019 it's funny how EA is digging
their own grave for several years now and if you ever wondered why we haven't
seen bad company free look no further than the sales numbers it didn't solve
very well and it had a single-player campaign yes it has grown a large cult
following over the last years with its servers still populated but EA has shown
time and time again that it doesn't care about loyal fans so they design their
products around selling microtransactions and only placing their
preferred interest groups but why are these interest groups so important for
game developers like dice the way the gaming industry measures their success
is by sales and review scores the reason I use Metacritic to show how certain
games are performing is easily explained these accumulated trivia scores often
influence bonus payments for developers an infamous case is the review score of
Fallout New Vegas Fallout New Vegas was supposed to reach an review score of at
least 85 so the developers would get their bonus payment they missed the
score by one point so professor didn't pay this is now in famous case showing
the significance of this score so hypothetically I know that reviews like
gender inclusion diversity political messages in modern video games and I
have to pay my bills as a developer wouldn't you be tempted to include these
topics in your games I guess we all see the problem here and this is just one
angle of it yeah and dice our publicly listed companies that have to please
certain interest groups too they want to see their interest rate grow so they
will just keep on turning and this is not about gaming anymore it's about
selling a product the game was rigged from the start and
honestly I'm along with this or is the whole triple-a game as a service fing
crumbling and falling apart if you take an honest look at the state of games
that released in recent memory and fit this description it doesn't look too
good at all let's be real here fallout 76 is a fire that keeps on
burning black ops 4 is an OK experience that gets monetized to hell and
battlefield 5 is an unfinished mediocre shoot at best and these are the options
when you want to play a new multiplayer game this is the state of modern
multiplayer games right now and it hurts so all these promises before launch
we're just there to lure us in no seasonpass free DLC Cosmetics only it
sounded too good to be true and it was it's a after all because the battlefield
5 experience cigar launch was a watered down experience and the game lacked any
personality if you play the beta you know exactly what you were in for
battlefield 5 is not a game it's a product it has no personality and it
certainly isn't anything special battlefield always had its unique charm
every entry in the series brought something new to the table had a
character of its own but battlefield 5 lacks any unique features all right now
benefit is everything ea wanted and mean to print money but without any micro
transactions and pay2win progression systems what is left of the game it is a
reskin of battlefield 1 and battlefront 2 and it has no personality of its own
it's a world war shooter like any other this is what is left when you design
your games around monetization and they're not implemented it is just an
empty shell and from here on out I see no possible future for the Battlefield
franchise after battlefront 2 and battlefield 5 both being massive
disasters it feels like it is time to move on from EA and dice and let's not
talk about the whole player visibility problem with the revamped sparring
mechanics and the detailed graphics it is really
hard to spot campers so gamers already use legal hacks to downgrade the
graphics to have better visibility and if you play the war story the last Tiger
it is a funny analogy on EA and dice they are in the middle of the wall right
now they don't see what's going on around them
everything is crumbling everything is falling apart and in the end of this
story the Germans understand that they fought
on the wrong side of the war
and for ei this time still has to come but what do you think what do you think
about games as a service as a loot box do you mind paying for a hot finished
product and did you play battlefield 5 and what do you think about the
evolution of the benefit games in the last year's let me know what you think
