Waching daily Aug 3 2017

Okay! Yes. I am doing a video about stealing...

And why it is so coo- wrong! Why it is wrong.

Ahem.

The first time I stole something was in second grade. I was a good student. I swear. My teacher, Mrs. M,

had this big clear container of mini erasers on a shelf by her desk. Like these *points*.

There must have been like 500 of them of different characters.

As a kid, things that are colorful and cute interested me.

I really wanted one. Just one. I asked Mrs. M

if I could have one, but she told me no

Wha-what??

Why?! You have like 500 of them.

I seriously spent a week just staring at the container because the lid was always off.

They were practically begging me to take them away.

Mrs. M never used them. Not even for rewards or anything for good students.

Like yours truly. So one day,

I just went for it. Whenever it was time to go to lunch, Mrs.

M told us to line up right next to the shelf with the erasers.

I purposely squeeze myself in between my classmates just to stand next to the container. Then

I just reached my hand over and quickly snatched one eraser.

I still remember which one it was; a ladybug. And no one saw. It was too easy.

I should have stopped there, but I didn't. I kept taking a couple erasers at a time for a week or so, but then *laughs*

I got caught. Two of my classmates saw me holding an eraser. I forgot why I had it out in the open.

It's not like I was bragging or anything...

Look at my awesome eraser!

Wow!

She's so cool. Just kidding. I didn't do that. I think.

One of them asked me, "Where did you get that? It's really cute."

I pointed at the container on the shelf for them to see because they were my friends. The other girl asked me,

Did you steal it?

I told her yes, and the two of them looked at each other, shrugged and started stealing too. Pretty soon

the whole class was in on it. I was contagious. They were collecting and trading and

Okay, that was an exaggeration.

I only influenced those two to start stealing

But this is where things went downhill. It was story time and both of them were sitting in the front row.

Mrs. M was absent that week so we had Mrs. M...

Squared read to us. Her name started with an "M" too. She was the teacher in the class next door.

While Mrs. M Squared was reading those two girls were trading erasers... right out in the open!

They were sitting right in front of her and trading without a care.

I remember being in the very back thinking 'They're going to get caught.'

So I quickly ran to the back, put back the erasers

I stole that day, and sat back down again.

Mrs. M Squared suddenly stopped reading, looked down at the two girls and asked them,

"Where did you get those erasers?"

They pointed to the shelf in the back and then shouted "Tran stole them too!"

The only defense I could come up with as a second grader at the time was "I put them back though!"

Pfft.

Yeah, I got in trouble.

Mrs. M Squared decided our punishment was to walk laps instead of playing at recess for two weeks.

My school's playground had this concrete path around it and so we literally

had to walk on it around and around for two weeks.

Of course, Mrs. M was told about the incident when she came back.

She wasn't mad. She just asked me to return the erasers

I had stolen previously. See, the lesson here is to not steal...

unless you're good at it... and~

you do it alone.

Find Something You Would Die For, and Live For It - Duration: 1:04.

I love that entrepreneurs are becoming the new rock stars. I love that you can

have millions of followers as a f#%king entrepreneur, like that's crazy

and wonderful because it's going to get people thinking about something than

just creating arts right being a musician being an actor. But the flip

side of that is people think that it's just glamour and it's not.

Most of building a business is boring. It's the finances, it's taxes, it's

employees, it's contracts, it's dealing with all the weird stuff that comes along

with human beings, the governmental agencies, regulations—it's unending.

So you've got to see where it goes what your business is meant to bring into the

world and say I am so on fire about that that, not only will i acquire the skills

that i currently lack but I will fight through all the boring sh*t because I believe in it.

So I always tell people find something that you would die for

and live for it.

Urdhva Prasarita Padasana: Do You Overshoot? - Duration: 2:27.

Hi there! We are working on Urdhva Prasarita Padasana and in this video I

thought I would go over one of the things that I often see happen. It's

something that I do in my own practice as well that I've sort of, okay, I'll just

get right to it. What I see often is that when people

take their legs up into Urdhva Prasarita Padasana, it's almost like they over

swing the legs so it'll come much beyond 90 degrees. so I'll show it, I'll show you

what I mean. Okay, so I'm here, and then the teacher will say raise your

legs up, so I take my legs up. From my perspective, it feels like my legs are at

90 degrees, but I know that they're quite a bit beyond.

Okay, so I've developed a technique to adjust. It's something that I found works

for me and I wanted to share that with you. Okay, so what I do to get a proper

alignment is that I start with my legs bent and I just lift my legs up as if I

had my legs on a chair. As if I was resting them on a chair. For some

reason when it's just the thigh, I have a better sense of what's perpendicular.

Okay, and then from here to actually straighten my legs, I keep the thigh bone

exactly where it is, and then unfold the lower legs. And I suspect they are a lot

more straight, perpendicular to the floor now, then when I just swung them up like

so. Right, so again, from the 90 degrees, from as if your legs were on a chair

adjust so that the thigh bones are perpendicular to the ground

and then literally unfold your lower legs and that will give you that proper

alignment. I don't know... it works for me! I'd be curious to know

what you think. Why don't you try it out and let me know. Namaste and happy

practicing!

Let's Talk about Books - Duration: 4:55.

Hi everyone.

It feels like every summer, I come home, and I decide to myself, This is the summer.

I am going to start reading again, and finally catch up on all these books that I've missed

over the years.

And then it kind of happens?

But then it doesn't really.

And since a few weeks ago when I finally renewed my public library card, I started thinking

that I needed a new strategy.

So as of two weeks ago, I decided I'm just going to finish one book per week.

It didn't matter when I started it; it could have been six years ago - because there are

/several/ books that I started that long ago - and I could have started it like an hour

before I finished it, but as long as I finished at least one book per week, then the quota

would be met.

And in this first leg of this ... goal, I've actually been succeeding!

I was kind of inspired to make this video because Abbie Wells made a video that pretty

much talks about the same thing where I watch so much TV and anime, but then somehow, I

don't have time to read.

And I needed to fix that.

And I wanted to share both the kinds of books I've been reading, and just how I've been

going about them.

The first book I read was by one of my creative writing professors and school.

It's called 'This Book Will Save Your Life', and it's by A.M.

Homes.

I guess you would consider it to be in the ... adult??

genre????

It's kind of about this upper-middle-aged white guy who's rich,

but is somehow not super annoying to read about.

And the thematic part of it was a lot about living your full life, and I guess in some

ways questioning the routine of daily life and to constantly hold yourself to a standard

of Actually Living rather than just doing the things you have been told to do, or that

you told yourself to do a long time ago and have since forgotten.

And I think that's a pretty good message.

The second book I read was Neil Gaiman's 'Trigger Warning'

and I've got to say,

I had never read short stories before taking classes at school that made me read short

stories, and since then, I have grown to really like the idea of short story collections.

Because you don't need to just constantly be inside this one world, and when you leave

for too long, you don't feel bad about having to pick up the book again, and then being

like, 'oh no, where did I leave off?

What was happening to these characters that I care about but whom I kind of forgot about?'

And it's just less commitment overall.

In Trigger Warning, there are stories that are pretty long, and stories that take up

like two pages, but they are almost equally impressive.

[I meant 'impactful']

As in, they make an equal amount of impression on me.

It's kind of creepy, but also just magical, and I really enjoyed it.

And the third book I read was actually a middle-grader book by Ali Benjamin.

It's called 'The Thing about Jellyfish' and it's just this really pure look at grief.

Which is a weird thing to say.

And it takes you deep into the psyche of this girl who's the main character, and how she's

thinking about her friend's death.

Which is the premise of the book - it's not a spoiler.

And there's just a lot of stuff about jellyfish... unlike Turtles all the Way Down...

and it was just a really nice read.

It made me cry a little bit.

It has good balance.

The voices were very clear.

So I highly recommend it.

I read this book because I've started tutoring this seventh grader who needs to read more,

so yeah, I'm glad that I've been able to kind of expose myself to more and different times

of writing.

It's really easy to get out of the habit of reading, and so much harder to get into the

kind of pace with reading actual books and finishing them.

And if you have any suggestions for books I should read, please let me know in the doobly

doo.

And also, what are your thoughts about how to make yourself read more,

and just books in general?

Hope you have a nice day, and I will see you

next week with another video from my Tokyo trip.

Byeeee

And I was just editing this video and I realized it's gonna go up on Esther Day.

So, thank you guys so much, especially those of you who are my friends,

and everyone I know on Youtube.

You guys mean so much to me, and are constantly inspiring me to be a more thoughtful person

and to see the world in different ways.

So thank you so much for being here, and

I love you.
