Unit 5: Exercise 4A Inherited Traits - A Genetic Coin Toss? - Duration: 3:47.

Hey Everyone, Welcome back to Biology in a Box.

Today, we're going to be learning about inherited traits.

Do you have freckles?

Whether or not you have freckles, as well as many other traits you possess are the results

of dominant and recessive alleles.

Dominant and recessive alleles are different forms of the same gene.

These alleles are inherited from your parents and determined before you were born.

A dominant allele is one that is always seen if, at least one copy of it is present.

And a recessive allele is one whose trait is only observed if, a child gets two copies

of the recessive allele, one from each parent.

If, a child gets the dominant allele from one parent and a recessive allele from the

other parent, the trait that is coded by the dominant allele masks the trait coded by the

recessive allele.

For example, freckles are the result of a dominant allele.

While a lack of freckles, is a recessive trait, which is two recessive alleles.

Many traits that humans possess are inherited.

So, how likely is it that a person will end up with a certain trait?

Today, in, today's exercise, find a partner to work with.

You and your partner will be tossing two coins at a time onto a flat surface.

And recording how they land.

You will need to make a table, so you can show tally marks in the correct column to

indicate, how the coins landed for each toss.

The table should look something like this.

I flipped heads.

And let's say that my partner flipped tails.

For this toss, a tally mark would go in the heads-tails column.

When you have finished tossing the coins and recording the results a total of fifty times,

find the total number of tallies for each column.

The three totals should have a sum of fifty.

Then, find the percentage of each combination of tosses.

For example, if, fourteen out of the fifty tosses were heads-heads, to find the percentage

divide fourteen by fifty and you'll get zero point two eight.

Then multiply that by one hundred and that gets twenty-eight.

This means that twenty-eight percent of the total tosses were heads-heads.

Do the same for each total number of tosses for each of the three possible combinations.

Once you have your three percentages, double-check your answers by adding them all up together.

The sum of those percentages should equal one hundred to represent the whole set of

tosses.

How do your percentages for the different combinations compare?

Do the three percentages vary much in size?

How do your percentages compare to the other groups' percentages?

Are they similar?

And are you struggling to get things done?

Well in this video I'm gonna share a very simple tip on how to maximize your time

Now wasting time doing nothing is bad of course but you know what's worse

wasting time doing something only to realize that it adds no value to your life

Well I'm gonna quickly share a strategy that helps you overcome these

two issues number one wasting time and number two doing the wrong things and

I'm gonna start off by giving a brief overview of how this whole thing works

so the order it goes is number one we're gonna identify all the things that we

need to do on a daily basis, number two which is a key part we can identify if

they're transformative or if they're transactional, number three we're gonna

pick the top three to five transformative things for your day

Ready?

So let's jump right into it

Okay so the first thing we're gonna do is gonna be

the easiest but also the most manual in terms of effort so we're gonna have to

write down everything that you need to do on a daily basis and it could be for

example getting that haircut, buying the groceries, taking care of your kids, go to

a school.

WRITE IT DOWN!

And the more honest and more

thorough you are - the better!

So step number two once you've identified this entire

list of your to do it's time to decide if they're transformational or if they are transactional.

Now this is a very key part so let me give you a quick simple rule here

Transformative tasks are things that help improve your life and make it better

Whereas transactional tasks simply keep

your life going so they are there just so you can survive

I'm gonna repeat that one more time!

So transformational things are things that help improve your life

into a better direction whereas a transactional things are kind of

those things that just happen for the sake of happening

Understood?

So for me as a content creator and as a musician a transformational tasks would be for

example going to a singing lesson, reading an entrepreneurial book, chatting

with my mate about a specific idea for video so whereas on the other hand

Transactional activities might be for example going to the groceries, doing my tax return and

anything that doesn't really add value to my life okay

So once you've gone through this entire list and you've identified what's transactional and

what's transformational it's time to identify the top 3-5

depending on how ambitious you are

and personally for me I find that I can only

manage three tasks before I kind of lose my focus and energy so the way to do

this is I personally do it through gut feeling because I think humans tend to

overthink and our gut feeling usually skips a lot of that and but I know there

are people who like to do a bit more data and with a bit more quantified

information so you can set up your own simple scoring system whatever works for you

Your metrics could be how much value gonna get out of it? how much time

you're gonna put in?

So what is the purpose of all of this?

once you've created the top three to five transformational tasks we've identified them

Our goal each day is to hit those tasks first because that's

when we have the most energy and the most focus so for me personally today

My top three transformational tasks was number one recording this video number

Number 2 two practicing my singing,

How To Have Good Audio At The Beach - Duration: 3:17.

Welcome back. This is going to be a quick video. I'm going to talk to you

about how to get great audio when you're filming in a noisy place like the beach

or the crashing waves or you're in the woods and there's there's a river

running by how do you get great quality audio?

Well we're in a beautiful place here, Cabo, San Lucas, up on the rooftop of the

villa that we're staying at but we're going to head right down there so let's go

for a little walk.

Okay, so here I am at the beach and I've got my shotgun mic on top of my camera

but the audio is probably not so good I mean, I can't hear it but I'm assuming

it's not so good well now let me introduce you to my little friend zoom,

this is the zoom H2N. Right now this is not connected. I've got a lapel mic but

it's not connected, we're not listening to that. Let me turn on this audio. Okay,

so I'm faced, I'm having it face me alright so now the mic is facing,

it's right in front of my mouth and the audio is just recording onto an SD card

so how much better is this audio compared to this audio? Just going back

to the shotgun mic, it's only 18 inches away from my mouth but there's a

big difference there is it there and I just want to do it as a comparison. I'm

going to connect to this mic right here to this, there's actually a spot where I can

plug it in right up at the top. Focus on that right there so that brass

thing, that's where I'm going to plug it in. Alright so how does that sound? Now it's

little lapel mic plugged into my zoom recorder, it just replaces it so no audio

is actually being picked up by the zoom recorder, it's all coming from my lapel

mic. So when you come to a place like this, you know it's going to be noisy, you

can't just rely on the standard mic that comes on your camera or in my case, I put

on a shotgun mic. You've got to take extra preparation to bring something

like this that you can talk into and if you're holding a mic, it's really not

that big of a deal but sometimes we think it is and so other times we'll

just try and put it out of the frame a lot of times I've got this connected to

me with the cord now. So I can show you, let me pull it out.

Okay so now we're back to recording just on the zoom. If I pull it away from my

mouth, you can tell now it's getting closer to my mouth, okay. But a lot of

times what I'll do is I'll have it upside down just outside of the shot,

there we go. So it's just outside of the shot so you can't see it but it's real
