Egyptian people had towards their Pharaoh contrary to popular belief the
people building these mighty monuments weren't often slaves and were usually
very happy to build these huge wonders keep in mind that the pharaohs were
considered to be gods so serving them in life would usually
mean that you'd have a pretty good afterlife now about those granite blocks
they were tools used to make the pyramids weight as much as 60 to 80 tons
and require heed from nearly 500 miles away how they got to where the pyramids
are mostly unknown but most Egyptologists believe they were floated
down the Nile until they were as close as they could possibly be then they were
pushed the rest of the way either that or aliens number 2 religion
after the Egyptians did away with their religion surrounded around raw and
Anubis around 4th to 6th century they were placed it with Christianity
eventually however it was supplanted by Islam Christians think that their
religion is going to make a comeback however unlike the who religions don't
tend to make comebacks all that often number 3
wedding rings ever wonder where the tradition of exchanging rings for a
wedding comes from well we're not sure but we do know that it is a practice
that was followed by the ancient Egyptians what we're wondering is where
they found a Tiffany's back in those times number 4 make up these days you
won't find a lot of men wearing makeup because of the way society deems it
unfit that's a sentiment that wasn't shared by the ancient Egyptians back in
those days both men and women wore makeup because they believed it would
give them the protection of the gods raw and Horus also they believed that makeup
had magical healing powers and they were partially right because the lead base
they wore actually helped with eye infections these days it just makes you
look a lot better for when you go to the club number 5
polytheism the Egyptians unlike most religions today worshiped a whole bunch
of gods how many you ask well as many as 1,400 this included some of the coolest
gods you've ever heard of such as Horus the Falcon headed god of the sky war
protection and light he was also given the adorable nickname of the God of
vengeance because he avenged his father Osiris's death and ruled over Egypt
sounds like something from the popular god of war video game series but it was
actually something people worshipped in the old days of human history
number 6 naked kids these days if a child was wandering around in public
naked it would be a whole crisis social services would be called the parent
would be separated from their child and news would go wild this was not the case
in ancient Egypt in fact kids wouldn't wear clothes until their
teens because the hot weather made it unnecessary nudists of the world eat
your heart out number seven written language if you've
ever taken some time looking at Egypt their people and their culture you're
probably familiar with hieroglyphics if you're not it was the system of writing
that Egyptians invented and adorned some of their tombs papers and walls with
however did you know that they weren't the only ones to believe they invented
writing the Egyptians Sumerians Chinese and Mayans all invented it independently
apparently humans are naturally drawn to the idea of writing things down at least
our writers know that if they were ever put back in time they'd still have a job
number eight graffiti if you're one of the people that think Rafi T is only
done by punks and screw-ups you'd be wrong apparently the work crews of
ancient Egypt were also pretty fond of leaving their mark on the huge wonders
they built they even had funny tag names much like today some of the funny names
found were drunkards of Makara and friends of khufu drunks and buddies
chiseling their names into walls sounds like a typical Wednesday night number
nine pillows picture this you've had a hard day looking 80 ton stones across
500 miles just so you can build a big tomb for a guy who calls himself a god
you and your buddies nicknamed Friends of Khufu have just come back from
drinking and you're ready to go to bed we bet you can't wait to rest your weary
head on a nice soft pillow right too bad you're in ancient history
the people of Egypt slept on pillows made of stone which just sounds lovely
if by lovely you mean awful and neck-breaking
number ten board games so what were Egyptians up to when they weren't making
tombs or getting eaten by giant crocodiles apparently they love to play
board games one game in particular called sin it was very popular amongst
the people how popular you ask well so popular that some of their pharaohs like
King Tut and Cleopatra were buried alongside one of the boards it's
unfortunate that historians aren't too sure how this game was played because
we'd like to start breaking out some sin at our next board game night if it was
good enough for Pharaoh's it's good enough for us number 11 toilets this
fact was a double whammy for us we had no idea that ancient Egyptians even used
toilets we just assumed they went into the Nile or on the ground or something
but here's the wackiest part apparently they also were buried alongside toilets
number 12 the Pyramid of Giza the greatest and most majestic of the
pyramids the Pyramid of Giza remains unexplored there are still some
passageways that haven't been seen by humans since they were built which leads
us to ask the question what is hidden away in these secret passageways jewels
and gold walking mummies toilets maybe number 13 perfume so we just learned
that ancient Egyptians used makeup to hide their ugly faces but what about
their horrid pre hygiene standards smell well
they solved that issue by wearing a lot of perfume and it wasn't just women who
wore perfume either men would spray on that smelly stuff to mask their stinky
scent thank God - we wouldn't want the majestic kings and queens of this
beautiful ancient civilization smelling like dirty sweat number 14 cats we know
that in the days of the internet cats are worshipped as gods if you harm a cat
these days will be totally lampooned and ostracized by society little did we know
this sentiment started all the way back in ancient times
the Egyptians used to worship cats as gods in fact the penalties were much
harsher than just being excluded from PETA events in those days you'll be put
to death for hurting a kitty which to be honest is a pretty justifiable
punishment number 15 other animals apparently loving animals was a pretty
popular sentiment in the days of ancient Egypt they also loved Hawks thesis dogs
lions and baboons and those animals were often mummified alongside humans most of
the Egyptian gods had animal heads as well which showed an absolute adoration
for these creatures abby's is ha try telling that to Australians who have
affectionately named their version of the bird bin chicken number 16 law
animals a lot like today the police force of ancient Egypt would often
employ trained animals to help them on patrol dogs and monkeys would go
alongside officers to enforce the ancient Egyptian law one wonders if they
would sniff out drugs like the dogs of today number 17 menstruation don't worry
this isn't a fact about how Egyptians wouldn't care about menstruation or
didn't have periods at all in fact it's quite the opposite Egyptian men would
take time off work to care for their wives and daughters who happen to be
going through their periods would men these days really want to take time off
work to be with their significant others and children during this difficult time
