Hi everyone. Wallace here with your Monday video.
Today I'm talking romance. I know it's not Valentine's Day anymore but I just
am in the mood for romance novels. And I rewatched the episode of younger
where they have the romance author on who like kept the lights on in the
publishing house for decades and decades. I don't know if you've seen it so I
won't give you any more like spoilers on that one. But I really loved that episode
because they talked a lot about how romance has such a bad rap because of
men being in charge of publishing and how it's a genre geared towards women
and how sometimes feminists are even, you know, embarrassed to be reading it. Which
I actually think has changed. Most the feminists I know read romance and read
it heartily. Oh hello. And, including her. And I even know some bookstores that were a
little hoity toity and you know too snooty who are now making romance sections. So I
think the news has spread that women like romance and women spend money and
women are readers. So here's some of my new, not new favorites, but some that
I'm just gonna tell you guys about. um This one was recommended so many times
on the smart but just trashy books podcast. And I can't remember it was
either a Elise or Carrie. I'm pretty sure it was a Elise or Carrie um who
recommend this one. It's the Jennifer Cruise, although I think her name is
like cruzi or something. It's like, um, I think actually is cruzi. I keep calling
it Cruz. And it's called bet me. Can you see that? Anyway it's, I bought it and I was
like it's been on my shelf for a long time and I'm like I'm sure it's good.
I don't know. It might be a little too chick lit-y for me, like whatever. Oh my gosh,
I can't believe I waited so long to read it. I'm not even not far.
I started it like last night and I read this much and it is so good. It's like the
kind of book you want to sit down and read all the time. It's like, I don't even
know how to describe it cause it's not like any of the other romances that I've
read. It's like real life but like, oh. I don't know. Like the best
rom com you've ever seen type of thing. Like picture your favorite rom-com and then
this is it. So it's good and it's not formulaic and it actually has made me
laugh out loud a few times. So definitely that, that was, whoever said it, Carrie or
Elise, whichever one of you said it was right on this one. This one, this one.
The next one — can I have this, please? Thank you. You know what else I like about this one is the
protagonist is not some perfect little whatever size two beauty that like nobody
sees. It's like her personality is what makes me laugh and the description of
her is she's just like a really average woman. So hallelujah for that. um This one
is actually about an overweight woman who works in the Food Network and
is, um, this one's erotica. So her reward for working out is more fun than most
people's reward for working out. But um I just think that that's fun. It's really
short. It's really, really short and I actually have a signed copy of this one
to give away. So you can follow me @bookitlikeamother on instagram and I
will be giving a copy of this away soon. um And it's part of a trilogy so and the
author works at the ripped bodice here in Los Angeles. You can follow them, I
think it's @therippedbodicela. I'll put it, I'll put it in the comments. And I
believe both these, both of these authors have instagrams. I know
Rebekah Witherspoon definitely does because I follow her and she's hilarious.
The last one is ship it and this one is LGBTQ romance fan, fandom romance.
It's about, I mean, ship, those of you who are like
into fanfiction know like ship it, like their relationships. If you're not into
fan fiction, a ship is like the relationship between two people who like
maybe didn't have a relationship in the original novel and then the fan
takes them. So it would be like Hermione and Harry having a relationship and like
the story behind that instead of Hermione and Ron ending up together.
You know, or whoever it is, or like um Elizabeth Bennet and Bingley instead of
Elizabeth Bennet and Darcy. So and ship is just one of the nicknames for that
kind of relationship. You can find this out on the Internet. It's pretty easy to
find out. But this one is about fan fiction about a fictional show and uh
and has um LGBTQ themes in it. So this one you can find in the YA section but
I've just heard it a few pages cuz I'm not quite ready to start this one yet.
And it's already, I know I'm gonna fly through it. So and this one is a newer
one also. So it should be pretty easy to find. So those are my three romance
novels for this week. If you've read any of them, feel free to comment down below.
If you have other favorite romances that you want to tell other people about, you
can tell them below. As always, no spoilers please. And until next Monday,
happy reading.
