Waching daily May 31 2018

Hey everyone! I'm Amanda Khorramabadi with al.com. Let me start off this video by

saying I hate bugs, and with warmer weather here it feels like we've been

invaded by creepy crawlies. One particularly gross creature I was tasked

with researching for this video is ticks, and just talking about them makes me a

little itchy. The information I found out about these little guys is eye-opening.

Our great state of Alabama is teeming with ticks, and you want to know

something? That really ticks me off, but the good news is we can protect

ourselves from them. Ticks are arachnids, kind of like spiders, and they go through

four life stages: egg, larva, nymph, and adult. After hatching, ticks must eat

blood to survive, so they're basically vampires. To find their host, or who they

suck blood from, ticks wait in a position called questing. They rest on the tips of

grasses and shrubs, and when a host brushes by, they quickly climb aboard.

Then the tick grasps the skin and cuts into the surface. It inserts a feeding

tube and sometimes it even secretes a cement-like substance to keep it firmly

attached. What's even grosser is ticks' saliva has

anesthetic properties so you don't even know it's on you. Then the tick will

suck the host's blood for a few days, and if the host has any blood-borne diseases,

the tick will ingest those pathogens. On the flip side, if the tick has any

pathogens, then the host could get those pathogens, as well. When the tick is full,

it'll drop off, and at its next feeding it can transfer any acquired diseases to

the next host. I interviewed Dr. Pigott, a Professor of

Emergency Medicine at UAB to tell us more about the types of diseases you can

get from ticks. In Alabama, tick borne diseases include things like Rocky

Mountain spotted fever or Lyme disease, although there are a couple of other

illnesses as well. The CDC just released a statement beginning in May that tick

and mosquito-borne diseases in the United States have had a three times

increase in the last 10 or 15 years. So now that you're thoroughly creeped out,

don't worry, I am too, here's what you need to know before you go outdoors. Ticks

live in grassy, brushy, or wooded areas. They could be in your yard, in your

neighborhood, even on your animal. To prevent tick bites, treat your clothing and gear

with 0.5% permethrin. What's really great about this stuff is that it remains

protective even after several washings. And on your body use an Environmental

Protection Agency certified insect repellent, like deet. Once you're back

from the great outdoors, you may accidentally track ticks into your home,

so be sure to check your clothes. They could be on there. You can wash your

clothes in hot water or tumble dry for 10 minutes and that should pretty

effectively get rid of any ticks that are on your clothing. Most importantly,

check yourself before you wreck yourself. Check your body for ticks. I know it

seems obvious but you need to especially check these parts: under the arms, in and

around the ears, inside belly button, back of knees, in and around hair, between your

legs, and around your waist. And finally, if you have the displeasure of finding a

tick on you, remove it immediately. Using a pair of fine tipped tweezers, grasp the

tick as close to the skin as possible. Then pull that nasty creature upward

with a steady even pressure. Make sure you don't twist or jerk the tick, if

you do the mouth parts could break off and remain in the skin. If that happened

to me I couldn't handle it, but you're better than that!

Remove the mouth parts with tweezers and if you can't easily remove them then

just leave it alone and let your skin heal. After the tick removing ordeal is

over, make sure you wash your hands with soap and water. Or be like me and douse

them in rubbing alcohol. Whatever you do, don't crush the tick with your fingers.

Dispose of the nasty bugger by flushing it down the toilet, putting it in alcohol,

or placing it in a sealed bag or container. And even though some of my

co-workers swear by it, avoid burning the tick off, according to the Center of

Disease Control, that's just folklore. By the way, if you develop a rash or fever

several weeks after a tick bite make sure you let your doctor know

immediately. And to go out with a bang, here's a list of ticks in our state and me

trying to pronounce their scientific names. American dog tick, dermacentor variabilis.

Blacklegged tick, lxodes scapularis. Brown dog tick,

this one's really long so I'm gonna read it, Rhipicephalus sanguineus.

Guf Coast tick, Amblyomma maculatum. And the Lone star tick, Amblyomma americanum.

Custom YouTube Homepage Activation | Turn On Your Channel's Potential! - Duration: 3:53.

Are you a new YouTuber and you've just started your

channel? Well today I'm going to show you how to activate and

customize your home page. A couple of simple steps to get

it so that you can add your playlists and videos so everyone

can see them. Stay tuned. G'day,

this is Doug from Doug Hewson YouTube. And we're here to help

you with tech for content creation. Today is for all

the young and new YouTubers out there. We're going to head right

over the computer, and show you how to turn customization on

for your YouTube channel home page. So today I'm going to show

you how simple it is to activate the customization.

Now this is based on the assumption that you've

already gone into Creator Studio and verified your channel

because I've already done that on this account so I can't show

you how to do that again. But once you've done that,

you can go simply here click on the blue Customize Channel

and as you can see it's going to open up in to the old YouTube

layout. And what you can see over here is a cog.

What you want to do is click on the cog and you'll get some

channel settings information. But here we see customize the

layout of your channel.

That'll probably be off, but then what we need to do is

turn that on. And then you have also the option of showing,

showing Discussion Tab or not. I'd put that on,

just because at some point when they roll out the Community Tab

is being, it's going to go in place of the Discussion Tab.

So turn both of those on but really the one you want

to turn on is this one here, Customize the Layout of your

Channel. It says recommended for people who upload videos

regularly, add a channel trailer,

suggest content to your subscribers and organize your

videos and play list into sections which is what we

want to do. Click Save, and what we will find

is you update and now you can see magically here,

all the all the channel sections are in place.

Home, videos, play lists,

channels, discussion and the about page.

So now you can go in and add sections here. At section,

click Add section to add sections to your home page.

Now if you want to learn more about that I have a video on

that would be in the card at the top right now, where we talk

about adding playlists to home page. Its the same technique

for adding any element to the front page. So check that out

can also go in and update and customize your About page.

Here you can see this is my personal viewing channel which

is what it is, but you can go in and set things like your links

here below, your Twitter and stuff.

Your contact email details and then put a more detailed

description than "this is my viewing channels" so if you're

doing a professional channel. You'd want to give a fully

fledged description in your About page,

but that's another video. So that's all we need to

discuss, that's how you put your channel into customizable mode

and get your home page ready to receive horizontal play lists

and all the things that you need to add. It's as simple as that.

A couple of clicks, and your home page is ready for

customization. Don't forget to check that link that I

mentioned just before. All sorts of little YouTube mini

tips are helpful you, make sure to subscribe for more

of those. You can check out the play list

that this is attached to and if you really like this video

you know other young YouTubers wjo are just getting going,

share this video with them, it will show how to do it in a

few easy steps. Well this is Doug from Doug Hewson YouTube.

I'll catch you later!!

Welcome to EC Brighton | Michael Bradford, Director of Studies - Duration: 1:37.

Hello. Welcome to EC Brighton. I'm Michael. I'm the Director of Studies, and

all of us here would like to make sure that you have the best possible experience when you come

to EC Brighton. Obviously what you do in class is really important and we have lots of varied

experience, and really high-level teachers to help you. But what you do outside of

class is equally as important, and I just want to give you some tips of what you can do in Brighton and outside

of class to help improve your English even further.

So tip number one is to join some local clubs, associations, or charity work. We've had a student in the past

who's joined a local musical group and performed on stage.

We have had students volunteer with the local old people's charity, and they go and make tea,

and chat with the old people, and it's really good for your English and for the local people. Tip number two is

to sign up for all the activities that EC puts on for you as well. We have

lots of things such as pub nights, laser quest, bowling,

trips to Seven Sisters. There's always a member of staff there for you to practise your English

with as well. Sometimes you do even bigger events, such as very soon we're going to be doing

the giant cèilidh, which is an Irish dance party, and that

would be amazing for your English, if you can understand the instructions. And tip number three

is just to get out there. Go into the local shops, restaurants,

pubs, on the buses and taxis, speak to the local people who

you encounter. It will really, really help your English. So I hope those tips

were helpful for you, and we're looking forward to meeting you, and that when you come here you'll have an

amazing experience in Brighton, and your English improves massively.

Welcome to EC Brighton | Isabel Ribeiro, Centre Director - Duration: 0:47.

Hi I'm Isabelle and I'm the Centre Director

at EC Brighton and I'm really looking forward

to having you here with us at our school.

So there are some great things that you can do

while you're in Brighton. The three top things that I

most like about Brighton are

visiting the Seven Sisters, they are these

amazing cliffs only 40 minutes from Brighton.

There's also this really great burger place

called Burger Brothers and you'll have

the best burger of your life there. And the third thing

is: Brighton is full of street arts, especially around

the North Lanes and if you take your camera

you can spend hours just taking pictures of the street art.

So I hope that you'll have a chance to

check those three things out

and we really look forward to meeting you.

Which Banana Would You Choose? Your Response May Affect Your Health - Duration: 4:20.

Which banana would you choose?

Your response may affect your health

When you eat a banana, you do it because: a) you like the taste, b) you know it's

good for you, c) someone gave you one or d), all of the above.

Bananas are packed with vitamins and other nutrients, and eating two a day can do wonders

for your body.

But did you know that the color of a banana can reveal a lot about its nutritional content?

From green to brown, firm to soft, spots or no spots — a banana's appearance can tell

a lot.

1.

Unripe and green Green bananas are hard to digest unless they're

cooked.

But once cooked, they taste like potatoes and are quite delicious.

People who are familiar with Caribbean cuisine know that green bananas are used in many dishes

there.

But what you might not know, however, is that green bananas have a low glycemic index value

— perfect for people who need to monitor their sugar intake.

Another good thing about unripe bananas is they provide the the stomach with probiotics,

which also strengthens the immune system.

And in addition, green bananas also contain resistant starch, a form of carbohydrates

that improves insulin sensitivity and lowers blood sugar levels.

Because of their starch content, green bananas keep you feeling full for a long time and

are helpful if you're trying to losing weight.

Boil them, mash them, or fry them.

The downside?

Green bananas have fewer antioxidants than more mature bananas, as the antioxidants in

bananas increase as the fruits ripen.

2.

Firm and yellow Most of us prefer our bananas yellow but not

quite spotted.

At this stage, bananas are sweet and ripe.

Pale yellow bananas contain a lot of antioxidants that protect the body from diseases, aging,

ailments, and heart problems.

A medium-sized ripe banana also provides 37 mg of magnesium, an important mineral that

helps the brain stay fit.

3.

Spotted

Sweet, tasty and packed with antioxidants, spotted bananas pack a punch when it comes

to fighting diseases.

The more brown spots a banana has, the more mature it is and the more tumor necrosis factor

(TNF) inhibitors it contains.

TNF inhibitors are cell signaling proteins that fight cancer and abnormal cells in the

body, but more research is needed in this area.

A Japanese study from 2008 showed that spotted bananas produce this substance.

If you have a sensitive stomach, you'll find overripe bananas easy to digest, but

because they're sweeter, they're not great for diabetics or anyone who needs to watch

their sugar intake.

4.

Brown

Admittedly, not many people like eating brown bananas.

But if you want to save some cash, you can usually get some good discounts on overripe

bananas.

Buy some and put them in a smoothie or make some banana bread.

When bananas are brown, they're very sweet and have a high concentration of antioxidants.

They're also easy on the stomach and perfect if you have stomachache.

You just need to make sure to eat brown bananas before they rot!

However ripe you like your bananas to be, they all have these benefits in common:

They contain the amino acid tryptophan, a substance that converts into serotonin in

the body.

Serotonin is a signaling substance that is commonly referred to as the body's happiness

hormone.

While bananas contain some sodium, they are also rich in potassium, which protects the

heart.

They contain high levels of vitamin B6, which some researchers believe helps relieve the

symptoms of PMS.

The fruit also contains three natural sugars — sucrose, fructose and glucose — in combination

with fiber.

Since bananas lose some of their nutrients as they age, you can put them in the fridge

to slow down their ripening process.

Enjoy bananas in the morning, afternoon, or in the evening and discover the positive impact

they can have on your health!

Please share this article so that more people learn how healthy bananas really are!
