When DId Marriage Become about Love? - Duration: 8:33.

When did Marriages become about love?

For centuries, marriage was viewed as a practical arrangement between two families.

So, what changed to make love the basis for the institution of marriage?

So a lot of people across the U.S. have grown up thinking that "love and marriage go together

like a horse and carriage."

But besides being the lyrics to the catchy opening theme song of "Married with Children",

and a popular song by Frank Sinatra, I wanted to know: when did love become the primary

rubric for choosing a life partner?

Now, before we get started, I would like to point out a small disclaimer that this episode

isn't intended as an endorsement of any particular type of marriage or as a negation

of the wonderful institution of love.

Rather, I wanted to do some deeper research into how "love matches" became the ultimate

sign of a healthy or strong marriage in the U.S. and when we started to see the shift from

marriage as the joining of two lives based on the choices of families and parents, to

marriage as a choice driven by love at the center.

Because even though love wasn't always considered the central criteria for getting married,

today love is the key factor in how Americans choose to enter into marriage, with a recent

study showing 88% of Americans listing it as a very important reason to enter into marriage,

over the 81% who listed making a lifelong commitment as very important, the 76% who

listed companionship as vital, 49% who thought having kids was key, and the 28% who thought

financial stability ranked high marks.

But as you can see from these numbers, many of these considerations (love, companionship,

financial stability) overlap, so even if someone thinks love is key, that doesn't mean that

they consider it to the exclusion of everything else.

So to start of this week's topic, we should first ask ourselves:

When did marriage start and what were the primary rubrics for choosing a mate before

love came into the mix?

Well if you haven't gotten a chance to watch our episode on the origins of the Nuclear

family, hint hint ;) Here is a short recap on the marriage portion:

Marriage is a custom that dates back thousands of years and is practiced in cultures the

world over.

And marriages haven taken a variety of forms, including the arranged marriages sanctioned

by parents, religious marriages, monogamous marriages, plural marriages, and marriages

that involved licenses and other legal documents issued through the state or government.

Also since divorce and annulment were considerably less common until recently, either due to

a lack of legal recourse or because of the social stigma, marriages often lasted longer

(although that doesn't note whether they were more functional, happy, and harmonious unions).

But according to Stephanie Coontz author of Marriage, A History, the love match is a relatively

recent phenomenon in Western marriage customs.

She says that

"What marriage had in common was that it really was not about the relationship between

the man and the woman...It was a way of getting in-laws, of making alliances and expanding

the family labor force."

So not exactly hearts, roses, red boxes of chocolates, and warm fuzzy feelings.

But it brings us to our next question:

When did love start being considered the primary reason for marriage?

Well according to Dr. Aparajita Jeedigunta's blog, some of that has to do with marriage

laws and property rights.

In early marriages in societies that established property laws through children, Jeedigunta

notes that monogamous marriages were a way of legitimizing children, with men claiming

their offspring and wives as part of their household and "property" (charming really).

This ensured that any family wealth was passed down accordingly.

But starting in the 10th century in Europe, the concept of consent in marriage became

more vital, with the idea that unions between two consenting parties should be approved

by a religious body and before God.

So love before the union began wasn't considered the only focus, but consent and family approval

often were.

And the idea of a married couple growing to love each other or providing companionship

after years in a relationship wasn't so outside of the cultural imagination.

It was just viewed as a potential part of married life, rather than as a prerequisite

of getting hitched.

But throughout history people have gotten married for a variety of reasons, and love

was sometimes one of them.

However it wasn't such a common practice in the West that it became a well known truism.

That didn't start until the 18th century when the idea of marriages based on romance

as an ideal started to slowly emerge.

And this trend continued into the 19th century.

Because businesses and factories weren't the only thing that the Industrial Revolution…

well... revolutionized.

As people began to move away from family areas and into more densely populated cities, we

saw the rise of Enlightenment era ideals that focused on individuality and the happiness

of the individual.

As a result, in Europe and the US, some folks were picking their own partners for the first

time, rather than relying on, or considering the larger family structure.

So with people moving away from the influence and protection of their parents households

in order to make livings in large cities, all of this new fangled Enlightenment talk

about the individual as opposed to the group/collective is theorized to have impacted marriage trends

(which was followed by similar trends throughout the Romantic era that centered inspiration,

strong emotion, and the individual instinct).

As a result, during the 19th century in areas and countries such as Europe, the U.S., and

Australia we started to see the rise in the love match (and not just as words associated

with tennis).

Which wasn't as long ago as we might originally think.

But this perspective isn't universal.

For example, a contemporary study of populations' attitudes towards marriage in India, Pakistan,

Thailand, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Australia, England, and the

United States by Robert Levine et. al found that love isn't considered the number one

factor in choosing a life partner in some contemporary Eastern cultures, whereas it

ranked as the highest consideration in the West.

And arranged marriages aren't a relic of the past.

They still exist widely across cultures, from Jewish and Hindu matchmakers to celebrity

matchmakers with reality TV shows.

So how does it all add up?

Well even though marriages being chosen based on love is a relatively recent occurence in

some countries, such as in the US, it still doesn't remain the norm everywhere.

And while there is evidence that suggests that love matches are more likely to end in

divorce than marriages that are arranged, we should take both of those facts into careful

consideration.

Divorce rates alone cannot tell us about the happiness, or functionality of a certain relationships.

So just because a marriage is passionate at the onset doesn't mean that it will last

forever or that it will fall apart.

And a marriage born out of love can become dysfunctional or breed a love that lasts a

lifetime.

And although arranged marriages tend to last longer, Coontz also notes that some arranged

marriages can be coercive or oppressive if both parties aren't consenting.

So while many people in marriages that are structured around family approval, long term

security, and shared values can lead to supportive and loving arrangements and long term companionship,

there are also instances of bad matches in these cases as well.

So if love matches and arranged marriages both have their pluses and minuses, then,

where do lasting marriages come from?

Well this is a history show and not a love advice show, but it seems that early configurations

of parties giving consent is the easiest formulation to see how to build a marriage with the potential

to last.

Marriages built around consent and not coercion, where all parties have shared goals seems

to be the real ideal here, whatever form your actual marriage contract may take.

So what do you think?

Any evidence to weigh in on why or why not the rise of the love match happened in the

U.S.?

Drop them below, and see you next week!

Luckily everyone in our audience appears to be on board with hand washing (that's a

big sigh of relief) so here's what some of you had to say about last week's episode:

Adam Marentes on Youtube pointed out that the story about the discovery of the effects

of the Helicobater Pylori bacteria on gastrointestinal problems and ulcers is a pretty good case

of the "Semmelweis effect".

Check out the links below for more info on the two researchers who championed different

methods of treatment, Barry Marshall and Robin Warren.

Thanks Adam!

And Ryan the Raptor Guy (cool handle and page by the way!) notes that geologists J Harlen

Bretz' theories and research about Lake Missoula and the Lake Missoula Floods were

often refuted by other geologists because they didn't align with his contemporaries.

So the Semmelweis effect strikes again!

Read more about it in the works cited section and thanks for sharing Ryan!

Should You Build an EMAIL for your Amazon Affiliate Niche Site - Duration: 7:45.

invisible selling machine by Ryan Deiss this book all about email marketing it's

very good people do say all the money's in the list right you got to start an

email list but if you have an Amazon affiliate niche site do you really need

an email list that's what we're going to talk about today so Ryan Deiss is the

founder or at least one of the founders for digital marketer it's a great

website I'll put a link below again this book is very good it talks about email

marketing and just the benefits it actually goes through some nice how-to

stuff now the thing is business partner and I we read this book we were very

into digital marketer in the way that they were running you know their sites

they're a very good case studies very compelling very well-written

we got so convinced especially after reading this book it's so inspiring that

we decided we wanted to try and build an email list for one of our sites which

technically it was a niche site but we wanted it to be more and we tried for a

very long time to implement an email list and we just had a rough time

actually making money from it let's go into the pros and cons of having an

email list for your niche site you probably shouldn't start an email list

until you're ready it might surprise you but most of the time we need to be

patient so I do love email marketing and I have an email list for a niche site

project if you're not on that email list by the way you can go to a niche site

project com hit the green button and put in your

name and email address and I'll send you some freebies I have a couple niche

sites which have fairly big email lists one of them has about 4,000 people in

the list and another site has about more than 10,000 but thing is if you don't

have a clear way to make money from the list then you probably shouldn't start

one so here are a few of the pros of having an email list number one you can

sell affiliate offers so it could be an info product like from Clickbank or you

could market things directly in your email to people via share sale other

affiliate programs and that sort of thing

you can also drive traffic so let's say you just do Amazon affiliate marketing

and you have blog post or ever on your site you can send out an

email and drive people to your content so you publish something new you can get

people over there key things to know you can't actually you're not allowed to

place Amazon affiliate links in your emails it violates the Terms of Service

you're just not allowed to do I could send out an email and send you know

multiple hundreds of people to a new post

additionally right so not just thinking about your site but let's say you have a

YouTube channel you can send an email out and drive people to watch a YouTube

video another Pro is you could build a positive relationship with your audience

so you're able to send the emails tell them about you know yourself and they

can reply back and you could build a relationship why does that matter if

you're just trying to like sell affiliate offers well if they know like

and trust you you can send out an email and make a recommendation for a product

they're more likely to take a look at it and value your advice

in your opinion another cool thing you can do with an email list is you can

actually just send out a survey you can figure out new content to write you can

ask them what questions they have what issues are experiencing and you can

write content around what they want you could create your own product right so

you can send out a survey to your audience and they can say they want to

learn about topic a and you can write an e-book on topic a and then market it to

them it's a valid business model and it's a great way to bridge the gap from

an affiliate model to selling your own products so the Provos sound awesome it

sounds like you should definitely have an email list but here are some of the

cons the number one issue is that people try to build an email list when they're

just starting with their site they'll spend time signing up for an email

provider I use Aweber by the way so a lot of people focus on setting up an

email list too soon so they spend time signing up setting up the opt-ins

developing lead magnets and writing an email autoresponder all this stuff is

fairly straightforward however it does take a lot of time people are building

these sites on the side they don't have like

time to start investigating you know email lists and stuff so people start to

sue let's say you even launched with a few pieces of content and you're able to

get some traffic let's say you're getting 20 visitors per day if you spend

all this time trying to build an email list as well and you're trying to build

an email list you're probably only gonna get like one subscriber or two

subscribers per week something like that you're not gonna get very many because

you just don't have enough traffic it would be better if you spent your time

adding more content or getting backlinks for example let's say you're able to

build your email list to 50 people over several weeks a few months you have 50

people on your list and you send out an affiliate offer you may only get like

one conversion if that so if your sample size ie your email list is so small like

you're probably not going to get any conversion all the advantages all the

good things like if you don't have enough people on your list it's not

gonna matter anyway so my argument is people start too early and they spend

time and energy on something that doesn't really pan out until sometime in

the future basically if you have traffic on your site let's say you have 300 to

500 visitors a day you should be making some revenue varies widely if you're

getting 300 to 500 visitors a day you may be making a few hundred dollars in a

week or something or a few hundred dollars a month or you could be making

many thousands of dollars per month it all depends on your products and the

kind of content and how much content you have if you have traffic and you are

making money that is good you probably have the resources number one to invest

in an email service provider right so if you can cover the cost with the traffic

you should be able to make some additional sales using the email list

drive a little bit of traffic and that sort of thing if you're getting a

hundred visitors a day but you really want to test out email marketing and you

have time to do it sure give it a shot on the other side I didn't start

worrying about building an email list on some size until they were getting like

over a thousand visitors a day because my main goal for that particular site

was someone lands on a page they read a product review they

Amazon and buy it like that was the goal so if you have a clear picture of the

goal for a page you can orient it that way now are there some caveats here yeah

let's see you have some content and it's getting a pretty good amount of traffic

probably in the hundreds per day if you have that content and it's not affiliate

oriented it's merely an informational article that's probably a really good

piece of content where you can create an opt-in you can creatively eat magnet and

you could start building your email list the goal for an info piece of content

could be to help build your email list right you're not trying to sell anything

there you're just trying to get them on the list and from there you can you know

drive them to different areas using the email list using good copywriting to

sell an affiliate offer you can drive traffic to a particular page or you can

build you know rapport with your audience here's the question of the day

let me know if you have an email list on your site in your opinion on the pros

and cons of an email list on a niche site really interested in what you have

to say so I read all the comments I try to reply back to all of them let me know

what you think I'm Doug cutting ten take a look around if you like the videos

Interstate Moving Cost Calculator | Get 7 FREE Moving Quotes Now & Save! - Duration: 4:19.

Are you about to move and need to hire a moving company?

Choosing the wrong company could make you a victim of a rouge mover that could cost

you thousands of dollars and unnecessary stress.

Without properly planning your move, your result can be catastrophic.

You've probably heard of the horror stories from people you know.

Like the hostage technique whereby a mover takes your belongings at an agreed price,

then starts adding additional expenses later.

Unless you pay for those additional expenses, your belongings are held back for that ransom

pay.

How about those trumped up charges the mover conveniently forgot to mention during the

appraisal period, stating there wouldn't be any hidden charges?

Or the classic "late delivery" where the moving company groups your belongings with another

move in the back of the truck or worse yet, the moving company has been found guilty of

a violation that needs to be resolved before your belongings can be delivered.

In either case, you're kept waiting for days at your new home for your items to arrive.

Studies have shown that moving stress ranks up there among major stressful events like

divorce, losing a job, or going through a foreclosure.

Imagine your entire estate arriving weeks later, or exceeding your moving budget by

hundreds of dollars in unexpected expenses, or your furniture, lamps, chinaware were broken

by mishandling of the movers.

What should be a straight forward move, could turn into a hellish nightmare.

Contracting moving services from the wrong company opens up the possibility of dealing

with the aftermath of your move long after your belongings arrive at your new home.

The thought of having to deal with the mover in court, or with the insurance company should

be enough to stay away from shady movers.

So how do you avoid falling victim of the mischievous deeds of an unscrupulous moving

company and position your move to be a stress-free experience at a fair market price?

Selecting your relocation company by price alone is not enough.

It requires a conscientious effort to partner up with a serious and professional company

that has your best interest in mind.

To find the best moving company that suits your particular move is necessary that you

start by requesting moving estimates of your entire move from each company and do background

checks on them.

That is where we come in, we've done the leg work for you to sort and identify those companies

Micro Moments - Gaining a Customer's Instant Gratification - Duration: 4:10.

What's up Fish Fans!

My name is Marcus.

You're watching Marketing Madness, the Blue Fish vlog!

Our goal is to address common questions that business owners may have about marketing,

sales, and business in general.

This week we're going to take a look at Micro-Moments.

In a previous episode, we dove into what a Micro-Moment

is.

As a primer for those who haven't watched that video, Micro-moments occur when people

reflexively turn to a device — increasingly a smartphone — to act on a need to learn

something, do something, discover something, watch something, or buy something.

They are intent-rich moments when decisions are made and preferences shaped.

This is straight from Lisa Gevelber, Google's VP of Marketing.

Impatience, immediate action, instant gratification, even some impulsiveness — these are just

a handful of descriptors for behavior today.

We have all been empowered and emboldened by information.

With our phones acting as supercomputers in our pockets, we can find, learn, do, and buy

whenever the need or whim strikes.

3 out of every four smartphone users are looking to search first when they have questions,

need directions, or are looking for descriptions, reviews or price checking something.

Google has put out some revealing data that helps us better understand what this shifting

consumer behavior looks like, and how it impacts business owners.

People are making on the spot decisions, and search data confirms this.

Searches involving "open now" has tripled in past two years.

When we look at some of the rising "open now" searches, we see that they represent

both impromptu decisions like "I have some spare time to get my nails done" and emergency

situations like "I just cut my finger and need a doctor".

People are searching at the exact moment they need something and are looking for places

that can meet their immediate need.

In other words, when making these on-the-spot decisions, they are more loyal to their need

than to any particular place.

The new norm is for us to be able to get products and services right away.

Services like Amazon Prime, Uber, Netflix, and iTunes have all changed our behavior.

Mobile searches related to "same day shipping" have grown over 100% since 2015, as people

are no longer willing to wait even a few days for their order.

I know that when they announced the Amazing Distribution Center here in Mobile, I was

a bit excited because it will likely mean same day shipping for those items that we

have to order online.

Looking at data, we also notice that searches for "same day shipping" peak first thing

in the morning.

Rather than running an errand on the way to work, people are turning to their devices

with the expectations that they can find a business that can help them immediately.

This might be a bit of information overload.

I bet you are wondering where to even start?

Well, I can tell you this, your consumers will vary significantly from "Planner Patty"

to "Last Minute Lex."

Regardless of how they plan, they will all expect the same thing: what they want and

when they want it.

And the brand that gives it to them WINS.

In fact, we have observed that 53% of visits are abandoned if a mobile site takes longer

than 3 seconds to load.

I mean seriously, Ain't NOBODY got time for that.

Ultimately, that means that business owners must commit to the creation of incredible

mobile experiences.

The basics—like load time—can make or break you.

Remember that "3 seconds" stat I mentioned earlier?

Now consider this — the average mobile site takes almost 22 seconds to fully load.

We've seen that for every one-second delay in site load time, conversions fall by 12%.

To test your mobile site speed, Google Pagespeed Insights and click on the first link.

Google even provides immediate recommendations to make your mobile site load quicker.

Well, that's a wrap for this week!

I want to thank you for checking in.

Make sure to hit that like button.

What Age Should You Start Working Out? - Duration: 2:45.

What Age Should You Start Working out?

This is me when I was 6 by the way.

Hello everybody, This is dr.Fox from the Fox's Power Basement.

Please, like and subscribe.

The general myth is that when you start lifting weights at a young age,

it will stunt your growth.

But there is no research available showing that weightlifting at a young age can influence

your growth in any way.

Some people think that the heavy weights might stunt your growth due to the external forces

applied onto the epiphyseal growth plates.

Others think that weightlifting might help you grow because of the increased levels of

testosterone, growth hormone and IGF-1.

The biggest danger of starting with resistance training at a young age is that young guys

and girls don't have a lot of patience.

They often start lifting way too heavy weights, use improper form and technique and risk injuring

themselves.

Then again, every rough, high contact sport, like rugby, martial arts, or whatever risks

of damaging the growth plates.

The most important thing young people, that just started weight lifting should focus on

is nutrition.

Typically on the age of 15-16, you are not thinking about the foods you're taking in.

Myself, for years I neglected the nutrition part of bodybuilding, and more than probably

I did not eat enough protein, missing on a lot of newbie gains.

Next to not counting macros and not getting in enough protein, a lot of youngsters simply

do not eat enough calories to maximize their muscle growth, next to their daily activities

and general development of their bodies at that age.

In conclusion, you should not worry about starting weight lifting at the age of 15 or

even as young as 13 to 14, as long as you focus on learning the proper technique, gradually

lifting more and more without losing perfect exercise form.

Next to learning exercise technique you should also learn at the same young age what matters

most about the nutrition you're taking in,

more specific learn to track your protein intake

and make sure you are eating plenty of calories and micronutrients to maximize muscle growth

as wel as your general body development and growth.

I hope you enjoyed this video.

Tell me about a time when you had to work with a difficult person. - Duration: 1:36.

Hi my name is Ryan Brown I'm the founder of Mockquestions.com. A common interview

question that deals with how you handle conflict is: Tell me about a time when

you had to work with a person who is difficult to get along with. A few

rules to answer this question. First: keep your answer simple and avoid

dramatizing any event. Second: speaking negatively towards others will

look unfavorable towards yourself. Third: telling interviewer you get along with

everyone is not appropriate either they will think you're being dishonest and

trying to avoid the question. The key to answering this question is to focus on

a time when your work style was slightly different from that of a

colleagues yet you and your colleague were still able to find success working

together. Here is a simple answer that you can try on your own:

I often work across multiple departments with a project manager who approaches

problems and people very differently than I do. He is more comfortable taking

an indirect approach whereas I like to tackle problems head-on. When beginning

new projects with him, it was difficult at first to get both of our

ideas fully understood by each other since our communication styles were so

different, however once we both mapped out our own visions and ideas for the

project we were able to leverage each other's own strengths and build on each

other's ideas. In the end, our project was well received and a success and I was able to

learn new communication styles from this project manager that i still use to this

day. Thank you for watching for more interview advice and questions

Microsoft PowerPoint: Getting started with Office Mix - Duration: 18:02.

>> Welcome to Microsoft PowerPoint:

Getting Started with Office Mix.

I'm Jason Bursack, a Productivity Trainer

for IT showcase at Microsoft.

Today, I'll show you how to add recordings in

your PowerPoint presentations with Office Mix.

We'll walk through how to use Office Mix in

PowerPoint to make a screen

recording that you can share online.

And you'll also learn how to

make slide recordings and add

quiz Apps to your interactive online presentations.

We'll cover; getting started,

creating and inserting quizzes and Apps,

recordings screen captures and slide recordings,

uploading and sharing your Mixes

and we'll also do a demo.

Before you start using Office Mix,

you'll want to make sure that you

have the correct hardware.

A microphone is an absolute necessity

for using Office Mix.

All Office Mixes tend to have audio recording.

Now a Webcam can also be very useful.

It really does draw attention to have

a video with your presentation as well but if you want,

you can just use a microphone.

I'd also advise you not to use

the embedded microphone in your laptop.

These microphones often produce kind of a tinny sound

and aren't terribly conducive

to professional quality recordings.

So, let's talk about getting started using Office Mix.

Office Mix is an add-on for

creating recordings in PowerPoint and it's

going to add a bar to your PowerPoint interface.

Now, the Office Mix interface

is tweaked from time to time so,

you may see some dissimilarities between

the screen shots and how it looks on

your machine but the functionality is all here.

In order to start creating a basic recording,

you'll click "Record" on the Mix tab.

An interface is going to open up here,

where you'll be able to test your camera and test

your mic and you'll also have

some annotation tools there

where as you're doing your recording,

you can write on the slide using those pens.

You'll go ahead and click record to begin,

and then you can introduce

yourself and talk and record over your slides,

recording audio and right

on the slides and you can see

the little hello written there with the pen.

And when you're done going through your slides,

you'll click "Stop" and then "Close".

And what that does,

is it splices up

the audio and video recording that you've been doing.

And as you walked through the slide

using the arrow keys at the top it drops

the video and audio onto the slide deck creating it.

So, what it does is it preserves the slideshow experience

while adding the recording feature

to it. It's pretty neat.

Some tips for recording,

you'll use the arrow buttons to advance through

the slides and animations

while you're doing your recording.

And when you're all done as I mentioned

the audio and video is

split up and inserted on each slide.

You can move the audio and video

around on the slide of course,

the audio position doesn't really

matter because the audience won't see that.

But if you like the video and say

a different corner then it

appeared you're free to move that.

And what's really really great

especially from my perspective I think

is that you can re-record any slide you

want or any combination of slides.

So let's say, you record

a 30-slide deck and you go through it

and you see that you said something silly on slide 26.

You don't just re-record the whole thing,

you just re-record the audio and

video on slide 26 and you're good to go.

Likewise, if you're recording screen captures,

don't record a 30-minute screen capture, record six,

five minutes screen captures

and then if you make an error,

you can go back and just re-do

part of your presentation instead of all of it.

Save you quite a bit of time.

Also Office Mix allows you to create and insert

quiz applications and this really adds to

the interactivity of the Office Mix.

So maybe your audience has watched

your Office Mix and you

want to either poll them or quiz them.

Well, you'll use this button

here to insert an application.

The four we're showing here are the free response quiz,

the multiple choice quiz,

the multiple response poll and the true and false quiz.

There's some other third party videos

and Apps you can add as well.

But just to go over these four,

the free response quiz

does exactly what you'd expected it to do,

allows you to collect word for word, audience feedback,

the multiple choice quiz is

a question followed by

answers that your audience can select.

The multiple response poll is

very much like the multiple choice quiz,

but there's no correct answer.

This time you're just looking to take

the audience's temperature so

you won't select the correct answer,

they'll just answer how they please

and you'll take that as feedback.

And then of course the true and false quiz is simply

a sample case of

the multiple choice with two choices, true or false.

So you do have to trust these Apps

and download them in order to add them.

These are separate Apps

that you'll add through the Office store.

And then this is the interface for creating a quiz,

you'll "Click to add a question" there,

you'll add your answers and you'll use

check marks in the case of

the multiple choice quiz to

indicate which answer is correct.

All right, you may want to do

a demonstration and I'll be doing

a demo in a bit here and you

may want to do demos like this.

So you can use the screen capture function

of Office Mix to do that.

So, you'll click "Screen Recording" on

the bar and you'll be

then given the option to

select what area of the screen you want to record.

Maybe you want to record the whole screen, that's fine,

but maybe you want to record just a certain portion

of the screen that's fine too,

just select whatever you want and then go ahead

and click the "Record" button and do your demo.

And when you're done you click "End",

and then that screen capture will be dropped into

a slide in your PowerPoint presentation

as an inserted video.

When you're done with your Mix, you've

done your screen recording,

you've done your slide recordings,

you've added your quizzes and whatever Apps you're

going to add and you probably want to

upload and share your Mix with someone,

colleagues, co-workers, customers and you'll use

the Office Mix interface here to upload.

You'll also be able to export your Mix to

video or upload it to Office 365 video if you want to.

Now, keep in mind if you do that,

you lose the interactivity of your Office Mix.

So in order to maintain all of that interactivity,

you want to upload it to the Office Mix cloud.

So, you'll sign in here,

you click "Next" and sign in.

If it's a personal Mix you use

your Microsoft account or

your Facebook account or your Google account.

If it's work one you use your work,

if it's school you use your school account,

you sign in and

then you'll just walk through

the little wizard process to upload the Mix.

It will take a little bit of time

but it should be ready shortly.

Okay? So, now what we're going to do

is demonstrate how Office Mix works.

All right, so here is a demonstration

of Office Mix in PowerPoint.

You can see here that I have

already installed the Office Mix add-on, here it is.

You have this Mix tab

and then all those functionality added.

Well, what if you don't have the Office Mix add-on?

I'll show you how to get it here,

we'll just open up our Web browser.

We're going to go to mix.office.com,

here we go and we'll sign in.

And I'm just going to sign in with

my work credentials here.

And then what you'll do, is simply click

this and this will open up a wizard,

you'll download the Office Mix add-in,

you will need to close PowerPoint while you install

this and then the next time you

open PowerPoint, you'll have the add-in.

So, very easy to do.

All right. So here we go, here's our add-in.

What I'm going to do here is I'm just going to make

a bunch of new slides and I'm

going to walk through

a demo on how to create an Office Mix.

Now, I'm not going to be creating

a content rich slide deck here for you because

the intent here is simply to do

a barebones demonstration of

just the Office Mix functionality.

I'm kind of assuming you've got

some PowerPoint experience already.

So here's our slide deck.

And then what I'm going to do here,

is these are my content slides right?

Content not contest, we can have a contest too I suppose.

All right looks good. And then

right here what I'm going to do this is my demo.

Okay. So, I'm going to have,

you actually probably would want to

use a title slide here and then we'll go demo.

And then we have a blank slide for the demo.

And then we'll do

one more slide and this is the end of the deck.

Okay? All right, so

actually let's do one more here for the quiz.

All right, so I've got my slide deck.

Great looking high quality slide deck here and what

I'm going to do is use my Mix functionality.

And first off I'm going to do

a slide recording here on on the slide.

So, I'll just click slide recording here.

And as you can see I've got

my webcam running and I've got my microphone.

You can test your mic right here it shows it working.

You can actually adjust your volume if you want to.

And if you want to shut off your camera you can do that.

And you can also have the option to

do full screen video if you want to,

and then, here's your annotation tools,

for your slides down here.

I'm just going to run through

a slide recording for this slide deck.

So, I'm going to start my recording here.

I'm going to say okay guys,

I'm doing this Office Mix recording

on the slide deck here.

Maybe I'm going to add some annotations as I go.

Now, let me just give you a little tip,

as you click the arrow to move through your deck,

what you want to do is give yourself

a moment, a pause in between your clicks.

So, that you're not talking when

you go from slide to slide

because you will get a small audio skip if you do that.

So, here we go, I'm going to stop and

then I'm going to talk about the content on

this slide and maybe do some annotations here.

Let me play some advanced kind of tic tac toe.

Go on the next slide here, use some annotations.

Go on the next slide, some more annotations.

And the next slide here's

more annotations and I think I'm done with my recordings.

So, I'm going to go click "Stop".

And, you'll see what it does here is it

saves the audio and video recording on each slide.

So, if I close out of this environment here,

you'll see I've dropped audio and video content

on each of these slides.

Okay? And then, up next I have my demo.

So, what do I want to demo? We'll I'll just

demo a little PowerPoint thing here.

So, now I'm going to do a screen recording here so I'll

just open up microsoft.com/itshowcase.

All right, and I'll just do a little screen recording

of this Web page.

So, here we go accessing the screen recording feature.

And, I can also do screen shots,

you want to still screen shot. You can do that.

But, we'll do the whole recording here.

Get the whole experience. And, the first thing

I need to do is select the area.

And, let's just say I'm just going to do

this portion of the screen here.

And, then I'll simply record it.

And we get a little three, two, one.

And you know, you can if these people were

moving up the mountain you'd be capturing them here.

And, then whenever you're done recording your video.

Maybe you're doing an Excel demo or

maybe you're doing

a PowerPoint demo or whatever you're doing.

You go up here and you're done.

And that is going to drop your video and

your audio right onto your slide here.

And, you can preview it right here if you want to.

You have all of your your PowerPoint functionality

you see I'll make it larger,

move around on the screen.

You're absolutely free to do that.

So, now you have in your Mix you've got

your slide recordings with your annotations.

You have a demonstration of whatever you're demoing.

And, then right here we want to quiz our audience.

Okay, so let's add a quiz to this slide.

Right here we've got the multiple choice quiz

and the multiple response poll.

Those are the add ins I've added if you'd like to go get

the free response poll of

the true and false quiz or any of

the third party apps those

are all available in the store.

What I'm going to do here is

we'll do a multiple response poll.

And, I'll drop that in. And, let's

just move it up a little bit.

And, then maybe our poll question is;

what is your favorite day of the week?

And, you could put all your options in here.

And of course,

I could keep going for all the days if I want to.

But, we'll just keep it four,

if your favorite day is Thursday. You're out of luck.

You won't be able to select Thursday.

And, this just is going to take the audience temperature.

They're going to answer this.

You'll be able to go onto the analytics

and take a look at how people have answered this poll.

And to do a quiz quick just to show you

the difference between the poll and the quiz.

Let's make a new blank slide here

and we'll drop a quiz on.

Go up to our quizzes and video apps and drop the quiz.

And, the difference between

the quiz and the poll is of course

there's there's a correct answer here to the quiz.

So if I say; which bird swims and then I'm going to go,

canary, parakeet and penguin.

And, right here I have the canary.

And that's not the right answer.

So, we might select the penguin as the right answer.

Now, this will actually show

this question to the audience.

And if they select

the wrong one it's going to say no that's wrong.

If you thought that the parakeet

was the bird that swims.

You're wrong, it is in fact the penguin.

Okay. So, we are now done with our Office Mix.

Just to point out a couple of

other functions that you can do.

If you already have some video or audio on your machine,

you could insert them right here.

If you want to export this to a video or

publish this to Office 365 video, you can do that.

Just remember if you turned it into

video you do lose your interactivity.

Okay? We've got some tutorials available,

some feedback and support options.

What we're going to do next is upload this to Office Mix.

So, here we go. It asks

us to prepare, we're all ready to go.

I'm not going to make an offline viewable,

because that will simply take more time.

I'm not going to make a video that'll take more time,

but those are options available for you if you want.

You can go ahead and click "Next".

And, all you need to do here is just sign in.

So, that's what I'll do.

You sign in with your own credentials.

And, right here you'll choose if you're uploading

a new mix or uploading an existing Mix.

And, I won't create this video since

that will actually take more time.

And then, we're uploading. This is a very small mix

so it really shouldn't take very long at all.

If your Mix is longer and

has lots of big images and long videos,

it will take longer to upload longer to process.

Okay, so now we're all uploaded

and processed and we're ready to go look at it.

So, we can just click "Show me my Mix" here,

and this will take us to the browser view.

And, of course I'm not

actually going to publish this Mix.

I don't think this is going to be

of value for anyone to watch.

But, you'll see here you've

got "Permissions and Sharing".

And, there's different levels like

there's, the default here is the organizational view.

So, anyone in your org can view it,

and this is for the business application.

You can knock it one notch back here

for private and that

means only you can see it, you can go this way.

And, this means you do need to sign in and have a link.

"Unlisted" means anyone with a link can view

and you can view this without signing in.

And, this is public and it's searchable.

So, I'm going to keep it actually at

"Private" since this is not

a Mix I need to share, it's just a demo.

And, we of course have a title

for our Mix and we maybe have a description.

Maybe, we enter a category for it.

Maybe, we add some tags. Right? Here's our link.

Copy this. Send it to

whoever you want to share your Mix with.

And, also you do have and if we created a video you can

download it here and get some embed options,

some sharing options and emailing a link right here.

And, you can just save right here.

So, this saves your mix up on officemix.com.

We are at the end of today's demonstration.

I hope this training has been valuable to you.
