Waching daily May 25 2018

hey everybody this is Kelly Roach and in today's 2-minute tip we're gonna talk a

little bit about sales strategy I get questions from my subscribers all around

the world all the time about how to accelerate sales and with all the dozens

of new marketing fads hitting the market every single day everyone is confused

and overwhelmed with how to drive growth now the most important thing to remember

at the end of the day about their sales strategy is that marketing should lead

to consultations or meetings and the meeting should lead to the sale doesn't

matter if you're a physical brick and mortar company or you're a virtual

online company the fastest easiest way to make more high ticket high-dollar

sales in your business is driving the number of either phone consultations or

in-person meetings each week so if you want to move the needle on sales quickly

and you want a little bit of strategy in order to do that keep it simple use your

social media channels your content your phone calls and your emails to invite

people to schedule either time on the phone or in person with you and that is

always going to be the fastest path to cash if you want to learn more about

effective sales strategy and how to use the one conversation clothes to have

neat to get more dollars in the bank and on your bottom line you can go to

4 Things You Should Know About the GDPR - Duration: 3:14.

(upbeat music)

- Europe has always had a stricter

set of privacy rules than the U.S.,

but what some higher-ed institutions may not appreciate

is that this new GDPR really extends the extraterritorial

reach of that European legislation.

So even if you are not a institution

with major programs in Europe,

if you accept European students,

if you market to European students,

if your website engages Europeans in any way,

you're subject to this new legislation,

and it requires great detail and specificity.

You need to explain exactly how

you're using data, who you give it to.

You've gotta provide access rights, if somebody

wants to access what you've got about them, delete it--

(upbeat music)

If you fail to comply, the penalties can be

as high as 4% of your global revenue.

Now, unlikely that, you know,

a meaning-well higher-ed institution is gonna be asked

for 4% of its global revenue,

but the penalty's on the books, and the regulators there

are promising that they're gonna use their new authority

and so, organizations around the world are

really investing in the work they need to do

to make sure they're ready for this law.

(upbeat music)

Almost every country, every Western democracy

around the world now has a general privacy law.

Privacy is increasingly recognized as a basic human right.

In the U.S., we've had a sector-specific set of rules.

Student data is protected in one way,

financial data, another way, health data, credit.

But most other data isn't protected at all.

What we are seeing is states passing laws,

cities putting rules into effect,

school boards putting K-12 rules into effect,

so it's gotten so complex.

(upbeat music)

And I think reasonable people recognize that,

look, there's a role for marketing in the world,

products and services are cheaper when there's

good competition, but there need to be boundaries.

You don't want to be intruded on.

Maybe I know that, when I browse the web,

there are ads targeted to me based on tracking,

but I have a smart speaker in my home,

and I have a TV, and I have a Echo.

Where and how does data about that get used?

I have a Fitbit.

Where does data about my exercise or other

intimate things you can learn about me?

We've organized some of the direct-to-consumer

genetics companies, right?

They've got your DNA.

What's more, it's the code that can describe

almost everything about your life.

Those aren't covered by the health privacy law because

it's not data collected in a medical, an insurance example.

Clearly, we want commitments that

that data's not gonna be misused.

KIDS CAN CHANGE THE WORLD [Morocco] - Weekend Wisdom #4 - Duration: 1:48.

What's up Morocco!? This is Ryan from Maroc Treasure with a little "Weekend

Wisdom" for you! We've got a four-part series with Bennani Ali - stick around. Do

you ever have people looking down on you because you are young? Are you

intimidated by those who are older or who have more experience than you? Be

inspired by the example of Bennani Ali in episode number 4. Moroccan youth can do

such great things for the community. Our society has some difficulties to see a

young kid doing some great things. It's crazy how how many times I have the

opportunity to meet some great kids with a lot of potential, and they only

need someone to push them so they can do such great things. It's crazy

how I meet people with a lot of potential, a lot of energy ,a positive

energy, and sharing good vibes. They only need people to believe in them and to

invest in them. Have you had experiences where you've come as the project manager

and someone says you're a kid - what do you mean you're the manager? Yeah

sometimes but I always try to prove to them that they are wrong by, you know, doing

great stuff and succeeding. Kids can change the world

[yeah] kids can change the world! Yeah, I love that. So good. If you

want to see the full interview check out Maroc Treasure's Facebook page and if you

Military Discount Now Valid up to Three Years After Discharge - Duration: 3:14.

General Motors announced Wednesday in a press release that its military discount program

now extends to discharged military personnel and their families for up to three years after

leaving the armed services, over the previous one year window.

The program updates took effect with the announcement.

Discounts can be redeemed with any General Motors brand such as Chevrolet, Buick, GMC,

or Cadillac, and applies to current and former members of all branches: Coast Guard, Navy,

National Guard, Army, Marines, Air Force.

Families of service members, specifically spouses and household members, can also capitalize

on this privilege.

"Supporting service members and their families is truly part of our fabric at GM," stated

GM's Regional Vice President of Sales Steve Hill, in the company's press release.

"Extending the discount to three years post-service allows military families to settle back into

civilian life and take the time they need before purchasing a new vehicle."

GM confirmed to The Drive in an email that discounts will not discriminate based upon

rank or time served, and elaborated on both the discounts available and the process by

which service members may take advantage of the offer.

"The men and women of the U.S. Military are devoted to giving their all in the line of

duty," a company spokesperson told The Drive.

"In recognition of this bravery, the GM Military Discount is our promise to give service members

the vehicle savings they deserve.

"The GM Military Discount allows eligible members of the U.S. Military to purchase or

lease eligible vehicles at a special discounted price that is below [retail].

For example, if you purchase a new 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, you can save up to $2,700

below [the retail price tag] depending on the options you choose.

Plus, you can combine the discount with most current offers to save even more.

When you build a vehicle to your exact specifications on our website, you can view [retail pricing]

and the GM Military Discounted price—simply follow the prompts."

Another company to tout its service member-friendly business is Polaris, which made its off-road

vehicles available through the Army & Air Force Exchange Service last month, discounts

included.

Company statements to The Drive suggested that its three-wheeled oddity, the Slingshot,

and the products of its subsidiary Indian Motorcycles may one day also be available

through this service.

been listening since the beginning then a big THANK YOU to you and you'll know

that we've had a real variety of guests on the show and topics to to help us

make sure that the show is as useful and enjoyable as possible for you in future

I want to hear from you our listeners about what's been the best so far to

share your favorite what I'd like you to do is please post a review of the

podcast you'll find easy instructions at musicalitypodcast.com/review and

I'd love for you to write anything you like about the show in general and then

pick out one favorite episode and share what made that one top of the list for

you a big thank you in advance for taking

just a few minutes to do this especially if you don't think of yourself as

someone who normally writes reviews or posts things online it means a huge

amount to us here on the team when we see a new review come in and it really

helps the show to reach more people like you and of course it'll help us plan

better and better episodes for you in the future thanks again and I look

forward to hearing about your favorite so far

ever wondered why some people seem to have a gift for music have you ever

wished that you could play by ear sing in tune improvise and jams you're in the

right place time to turn those wishes into reality welcome to the musicality

podcast with your host Christopher Sutton in our recent episode with Chris

Owenby of practice habits and the online piano course we talked about how he

learned to play by ear through painstaking trial and error and I

mentioned how at musical u that's an approach we recommend too that might

have sounded surprising for a website that promises to help you play by ear

isn't trial and error a bit lame we should be able to do better than that

right well yes and no I have no hesitation saying we teach a trial and

error approach because there is far too much mysticism and misunderstanding

around how playing by ear works and I feel obliged to try to

counterbalance that a bit by just straight-up telling it how it is

but trial and error doesn't mean that learning to play by ear has to be

frustrating or tedious or that it's pure guesswork all the way absolutely not so

let's talk about this trial and error approach to learning to play by ear

inside musical you we have a training module called start playing by ear it's

designed to help you get a hundred percent clear on what playing by ear is

what it isn't and how learning to do it actually works and I'm going to tell you

the most valuable part of that training module right now you learn to play by

ear by trying to play by ear this is a big secret in the sense that

you'll meet a lot of musicians and music educators who try to get around that

fact and pretend there's some trick to it and as we'll be talking about in a

minute it can be much cleverer and more effective than just trying to do it but

at its heart playing by ear is a learnable skill and we typically learn

musical skills through repetition and practice meaning trial and error so the

one big message in that training module and one I hope you'll take away from

this episode is this you learn to play by ear by starting to play by ear the

first time you do it you'll get it almost all wrong

but then next time you'll be a bit better because trial and error should

really be called trial and improvement as long as you're paying attention you

should be learning from those errors and avoiding them next time the more you do

it the better you get and here's the critical thing to understand it works

this way for everyone this isn't a cop-out method you use if you're not

gifted in music with the exception of the tiny percentage of people who have

perfect pitch and who play by ear in a different way check out our perfect

pitch episode for more about that everyone else even those who say playing

by ear came naturally to them they have learned to do it through practice and

making a lot of mistakes check out our episode with Professor Anders

Ericsson for more about this and how every skill we think might be a talent

or a gift is actually learn about and learned by those who do it all that

differs is how quickly we learn it so yes you might encounter say a 15 year

old who has a great ability to play by ear and feel like they must just be

gifted but I guarantee they didn't get every note right the first time they

tried it and what distinguishes them from the musician who has tried playing

by ear and really struggled it's just the speed of that trial and improvement

process so that's the situation and there's some really good news because

although your natural ability to learn this skill may not be as Swift as the so

called prodigies out there there are extensive proven methods you can use to

accelerate that progress that's why I'm not worried about telling you that at

musical you we see learning to play by ear as the process of trial and error or

trial and improvement that will take practice because I know that we also

equip our members with the training and the tools to drastically accelerate that

process I won't go into detail here but in short our approach is to equip you

with the core ear skills that give you the building blocks underneath playing

by ear we help you recognize notes and chords by ear so that when you sit down

to play something by ear the chances of you getting each note right first time a

dramatically higher than if all you've done is practice guessing it's a bit

like if you were trying to learn to paint portraits sure you can just sit

there and practice painting faces from photographs all day every day and you

will gradually get better and fundamentally that is going to be how

you improve through trying again and again but compare that with the aspiring

painter who gets a few lessons in color mixing and different paintbrush

techniques and how light and shading work the painter who has studied those

fundamentals and built those core skills is going to improve in their poetry

painting dramatically faster than one who only goes through the process of

trial and error and they're going to reach the point where it's easy to sit

and paint a wonderful portrait first time every time that's what the process

of learning to play by ear looks like and so I hope this episode has both

encouraged you to know that this skill is certainly within reach if you want to

learn it and so I hope this episode has both

encouraged you to know that this skill is certainly within your reach if you

want to learn it and that there are tools and techniques available to you

which can dramatically accelerate that learning process if you're curious to

know more about how that works you can check out the free previews of our

Genna Bain, John 'Totalbiscuit' Bain's Wife: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know - Duration: 12:04.

Genna Bain, John 'Totalbiscuit' Bain's Wife: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Genna Bain has just lost the love of her life.

John 'Totalbiscuit' Bain, one of the most well-known gaming critics in the world, has passed away after battling cancer since 2014.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Genna, and their son, Orion.

He and Genna had already been through so much together, including barely being able to see each other for two years while they worked on visa issues.

Here is what you need to know about Genna.

Genna & John Met in 2005 When He Was Covering Blizzcon, & She Once Said that Being with Him Was Sometimes Like Being a Hollywood Celebrity.

He and Genna met in 2005 when he was covering Blizzcon.

They kept in touch and got more and more serious over time.

He finally took a chance on love, he wrote, and moved to the United States in 2007.

Then they got married in the U.K.

"I was at the time of my life where I felt like taking risks and I was in a position to take them.

It was a risk that paid off.

They were still together and very much in love until the day he passed away.

In the early years he couldn't work in the U.S., he said, because he was on a visa-waiver program, but he could take care of Orion, bring in ad revenue through his website, and work on amateur broadcasting.

For a time, he flew back and forth between the U.K.

and the U.S.

every three months in order to abide by U.S.

visa law.

In a Reddit thread, she once said that being married to John was only difficult when they got death threats and constant scrutiny.

She said she was notified almost every day that someone didn't like her because of her husband.

And when they go to events, she said, people were always asking for photos or signatures.

But in Sweden, it was at an entirely different level.

"When we travel to Sweden, where we have the largest viewership density, everyone seems to know who he is," she wrote.

"It rivals on par with celebrities in Hollywood.

Swedes, unlike the Hollywood paparazzi, are extremely polite and respectful, so it always makes visiting a fun experience.".

They Only Saw Each Other Twice in Two Years After They Were Married Because of Visa Issues.

In 2011, John wrote a lengthy post on Team Liquid detailing why he and Genna had only seen each other twice in two years, and he hadn't seen his son Orion since 2008.

It was a troubling story about visa issues that included Bain's being put into an immigration detention center before he was sent back to the U.K.

He had been following all relevant visa laws, he wrote, when he flew into Los Angeles for Blizzcon 2008.

Blizzard wanted me there and paid for his flights, his hotel, and everything.

But he was stopped at the airport by Homeland Security and was questioned for two hours.

He said they kept asking him questions, wanting proof of his marriage to a U.S.

citizen, and kept asking why he had entered through Mexico, although he had never done that and his passport proved it.

He wrote that his visa-waiver was revoked and despite fighting from the British Consulate and Blizzard, he was taken to a detention center in downtown LA, put in a cell, and then sent to the U.K.

on the next flight home.

"All the while with armed escort and cuffs," he wrote.

Since he was sent back, he had been trying to raise funds to get back to the United States, despite Genna's losing a job from the recession and his losing a job in 2010.

He was finally able to start the process back up again, but it was incredibly frustrating, he wrote.

"Assuming all goes well, I should be back in the States by summer this year," he wrote "I've seen my wife twice in the last 2 years, when we've been able to afford flights.

Haven't seen my kid (I say my kid, step-Dad, but still, you get the idea) since 2008. Well, that was a bit more soul-baring than I meant it to be, but I can't be bothered to retype it now.

There's your answer.".

Genna Has a Son, Orion, That John Always Considered His Own Child.

In 2011, he posted about his family and wrote about Orion: "Not mine, but might as well be, guy has never had an actual father, another long, fairly horrendous story…" While he was trying to work out Visa issues, he flew back and forth between the UK and the US because he wanted to be there for Orion, since there was no one to look after him while Genna worked.

She's a Gamer, Voice Actress, Makeup Artist, & Tournament Organizer.

Genna introduced herself on Reddit five years ago in a discussion about Axiom, describing herself as "a gamer, voice actress, former podcaster, event makeup artist, SC2 tournament organizer, eSports agent and now a team owner.

Many of you know me as the better half of TotalBiscuit.".

She wrote that she had voiced the Forsaken Archer and the Succubus in the game Heroes of Newerth.

She also did many voices for World of Warcraft machinima films and radio advertisements.

She has also voiced automated phone systems.

When asked who she would pick if she could have any Starcraft player in the world on her roster, she said Grubby.

"Grubby.

He has such an amazing personality and I feel that even over the course of a long career, he still strives to win every event.

I admire his determination and his ability to handle himself as a professional.

I remember being at BlizzCon when he proposed to Cassandra.

Just an all around awesome guy." .

In the same thread, she said that she started out playing platform games, as many kids do with their first Nintendo.

"I had such limited resources in the way of a capable computer that I only played console games for a time of my adolescence," she wrote.

"When I did finally get a computer that would run games without making me rage, I got into playing Diablo II, Warcraft 3, Broodwar, CS 1.6 and Quake.

Sadly enough, afterwards I spent 6 years playing WoW and rarely any other game due to raiding commitments. After achieving a number of world firsts and then seeing the direction of cough cough Disney cough cough I mean Blizzard/Activision, I decided it was time to move on.

Since then and until now I play a little bit of everything.

I like RPGs, FPS and strategy games mostly.".

She said that John helped her appreciate indie games more.

John Said He Would Be Delighted if Genna Took Over His Channel.

When he announced his retirement, he said that the podcast Co-optional would be sticking around.

The show would be shortened to two hours an episode.

His wife Genna planned to take over the production and hosting role when he couldn't.

It's not clear if she will still be doing that now that he's gone, but John did say that he would be delighted if Genna took over his channels and assets.

Genna has been by John's side every step of the way during his treatment.

She would sometimes share updates about him on Twitter, including the heartbreaking goodbye post above, along with moments of improvement, like the one below from 2017.

As Genna deals with the loss of her best friend, it's no doubt that her friends and loved ones, and her fans across the world, will provide comfort and words of encouragement.

Well, hello.

How are ya?

I'm doing good.

-I'm doing good. -Good.

You look like somebody I know.

-Who's that? -His name's Dave.

-I was gonna say, "Hi, Dave." -Oh. Hi.

-No, my name's Stuart. -Nice to meet you, Stuart.

What's the story with the spring fair?

The spring...

-Fair. -...fair. The spring fair.

Sorry. I have so many books here.

I'm, like, so overloaded with which ones are fiction

and which ones are nonfiction,

Sure, sure, sure.

...'cause they're not all labeled.

Like, this one book that I have down here.

Uh-huh? This is, like,

how to fix things.

That would be nonfiction, right?

Would this be a nonfiction? 'Cause it's "Fix It."

So "how-to," right, is nonfiction?

Is that right?

-I think. -You think? Okay.

Then I'm gonna put that one in nonfiction.

-Okay. -Nonfiction.

You're making the funniest face at me.

You are -- You are really, really throwing me off.

-Why's that? -You look very familiar to me.

Like your friend Dave?

-Yes. -Who is this Dave person?

-He's just a friend of mine. -A friend of yours?

So, do you have information on that fair?

On the fair? Let me see if I have...

We just got this --

"Romeo and Juliet" is obviously nonfiction, right?

-This would be a nonfiction? -Oh, my God.

So, is that Shakespeare?

Oh, my God. You are him.

-Oh, my God. -Huh?

-Nice to meet you. -Oh, my God.

Who am I? Who is Dave?

Oh, my -- You are -- I can't believe this.

-What? -I can't believe this.

-What can't you believe? -I'm having a hot flash.

Don't -- Talk to me. What's your name?

[ Laughs ] My name's Donna.

Hi, Donna. Nice to meet you.

Oh, Dave --

You are a little red, yeah.

Oh, my God.

So, you -- Am I somebody you know?

I watch you all the time.

You do? My name's not "Dave."

It's "David." What is it?

-It's something. -Something.

David...

What is your last name? Oh, my God.

What do you wa-- You watch my show?

Come here, come here, come here, come here.

This is unbelievable.

I'm gonna show you something, and you'll know what show it is.

I know what show it is. It's the magic show.

-What's it called? -Oh, my God.

-Is it "Dave"? -It's "Dave."

-The "Dave"... -"Chappelle."

-"Chappelle." -"Show."

-"Show." -"Magic Show."

"The Dave Chappelle Magic Show."

-That's me. -Oh, my God.

-That is me. -In my hometown.

-Right here in your hometown. -This is so cool.

Right? How many people can say,

"I have had 'The Dave Chappelle Magic Show' in my local library"?

-I'm having a hot flash. -I'm having a hot flash.

This is so good.

The minute I seen you, I thought...

My pleasure. That was so nice.

It was your pleasure? It was nice?

-Will you be on my TV show? -Do I get a prize?

You get to be on TV, and --

Okay, I'm gonna give you a gift for your future.

It's this book.

Oh, my God, Dave. This is so cool.

Dave -- Dave Chappelle is giving you a hug right now.

Dave Chappelle the robot magician.

Who can say Dave Chappelle the robot magician

has been in their library?

-Oh, my God. -You can.

Yes, I can.
