Jesus said you are the salt of the earth there are fourteen thousand uses
for salt and those that the we are most familiar with our that we put salt on
our food for flavoring for seasoning when Jesus says that you are the salt is
indicating that you can season others with the presence of Christ within you
let's pray together gracious Lord lead us during our worship together right now
to think your thoughts and become more like you in your name Amen there was a
mother Mouse who decided to teach her children about the world so she gathered
all of her little mice and set them out for walk they walked down the hall and
they turned to the right then they went down the hall and took another right and
suddenly they found themselves in front of the family cat he was dozing in the
sunlight some other mouse was scared she didn't want to give in to her fright and
so she signaled to the children to be very quiet and to follow as she began to
tiptoe quietly and slowly past the sleeping cat just as she was about to
get past the cat the cat's eyes popped open and raised its paw the little mice
were petrified what would their mother do well just as the cat's paw started to
come down the mother Mouse look the cat right in the eye and started barking
like a dog the cat was so startled that the cat got up and ran away the mother
Mouse wiped her brow shook a little and then turned her little mice and said
children I hope you learned a valuable lesson sometimes it's good to know a
second language
the second language we discovered today is the believers language your language
may be sprinkled like salt with the truth of Jesus Christ the believers
language may be convicted by the holy spirit and your language may allow the
Lord to speak through you to other people or to other person's your
language will melt the cold in others with Christ's presence truth was
discussed in a classroom one day the dialogue took place in class when the
teacher came in to welcome her students and she said now I want to lay down some
ground rules first since no one has the truth you should be open-minded to the
opinions of your fellow students well at that point a young lady raised her hand
and the teacher said Elizabeth do you have a question Elizabeth said yes I do
if no one has the truth isn't that a good reason for me not to listen to my
fellow students after all if nobody has the truth why should I waste my time
listening to other people in their opinions what would be the point only if
somebody has the truth does it make sense for somebody to be open-minded
don't you agree the teacher said no I don't are you claiming to know the truth
isn't that a little bit arrogant and dogmatic Elizabeth said no not at all I
think it is dogmatic and arrogant to assert that there's not one person on
earth who knows the truth after all have you met up every person in the world and
quiz them exhaustively if not then how do you know in fact I believe it's the
opposite of arrogance to alter my opinions to fit the true
wherever and whenever I find it in fact I think that I have a good reason to
believe I know the truth and i'd like to share it with you and so why won't you
listen to me why would you automatically discredit my opinion before I've even
spoken I thought we were supposed to listen to everybody's opinion the
teacher in a fit of frustration said well this is going to be approved this
is going to prove to be an interesting semester Elizabeth said ain't that the
truth truth has visited us in the person of Jesus in the Son of God, years
ago a group of faith filled Jewish people living under a Roman tyranny rule
were visited by an itinerant preacher who spoke with humility and holiness
combined his authority they'd never experienced this he reached out to the
hurting people are broken people to touch them to heal them they heard
through him radically new interpretations of ancient scripture he
illuminated our understanding of God's unconditional love for us the group grew
and grew and Jesus tried to keep its popularity from spreading but he could
not his good news was flowing across the land through people's hearts because of
his living holy presence that was walking with them he was salt in their
lives with blessings Jesus assault melted areas of their salt in mind which
had been completely frozen solid then they experienced the holy presence of
God in a way that they hadn't ever before it was love with a capital L and
that was the salty melting factor and they began to believe and they began to
speak this new language that he taught them believers language
you can find this language of life in scriptures because when you read about
Jesus and you have Jesus in your heart and you believe on him the Holy Spirit
will aid you the Holy Spirit will help you understand and this preacher will
try and help you understand and live in the newness of his love and compassion
now the rest of the story is that after Jesus is three-year ministry there came
a time when some people rejected good the good salt of Jesus there puffed up
lives caused the salt to bounce off instead of entering into their hearts
they love themselves more than they love the Son of God and so Jesus's followers
and his disciples watched in horror and disbelief as Jesus was arrested and
tried in the middle of the night untrim and try to on trumped-up charges and
charged and then nailed to the cross between two thieves they experienced the
disbelief of him being buried on Friday died and then the equally unbelievable
joy that he was resurrected on Easter Sunday and he was with them the salt of
his life was in their lives and he began and they began to live like he lived and
talk like him talked and more them accepted our Lord and they were baptized
in his name and they shared in the Holy Communion as he taught and Jesus's
followers became just like salt they would speak to people who would listen
and accept our risen Lord we remember that our Savior who was able to speak
the believer's language taught us at that time after Jesus was resurrected he
came to the guru and spoke to the disciples that
language and Thomas wasn't there and so Jesus came back and reappeared and he
showed Thomas the gash in his side and showed him and let Thomas feel his hands
where he'd been nailed to the cross and Thomas said i believe and thomas spoke
believers language thereafter and at Pentecost Jesus breathed on them that
sweet and beautiful spirit of his and they began to speak in all languages and
praise God like a community of people have never done before and at our church
we speak believers languages in all languages to hear we participate in
global christianity and alpha church daily we can practice believers language
and praise because it's in our hearts and minds and the Holy Spirit group has
breathed into us and we breathe Jesus's spirit into other hearts and melt the
cold places in Jesus's name Jesus says come to me let me let me help you win
others to Christ in Germany in a place in Germany there's a man a sculpture
there was a man of sculpture named Thorvald thoresen
and had a sculpture of Christ with a face looking upward and arms stretching
outward and upward it was a statue of majestic conquering Christ there that
night however after the sculptor had left his find new work and clay to dry
and Harden something unexpected occurred sea mist sipped into his studio at night
and the clay didn't hardens quickly as he anticipated and the upraised arm and
head of the sculpture began to drop and the majestic Christ with arms lifted up
and head thrown back was transformed into Christ with head bent forward and
arms stretched downward as if in a pose of gentle and the invitation at first
the sculptor four vaults and was terribly disappointment disappointed and
he as he looked at the school teacher and he began to see a Christ that hadn't
been real to him before he began to see Christ the humble the
the good Christ that invites others to him and he wrote on the bottom of that
sculpture Christ come to me as Christ his general and merciful he says come to
me as Christ is merciful and inviting and gives unconditional love this is
what we express to believers through believers language to others let me wrap
it up this way it's good to know the second language of our Lord the
believers language this second language is beneficial and helpful for others let
us pray together gracious Lord you're bent forward right now as we speak to
you that you might invite us to receive your love that you have for us and to
give that to each person that we encounter today and each day thank you
that our lives have your purpose to be given away in your name we pray amen I'm
