Waching daily Jun 30 2018

It's Thomas DeLauer with Antler Farms.

And today we're talking about Omega-3s and fish oil.

We're talking about what they really do in the body and how you can start sourcing the

right kind of Omega-3s and how you can understand what truly is in an Omega-3 product.

Because they're not all created equal.

See, first off I want to talk about the three main reasons that Omega-3s are exceptionally

beneficial for your body.

And these are things that are going to make you quite happy because they're things I think

all of us want.

The first one is of course your brain health.

Okay, significant improvements in brain health when Omega-3s are consumed.

And this simply has to do with the fact that it increases the fluidity of cell membranes.

Okay, cell membranes are the actual outer structure of a cell.

And in the brain, it's very important that they're fluid.

If they're not fluid, it makes it difficult for cells to communicate with one another.

For example, if you have a cell membrane that is rigid, that is not fluid, it's like a hard

shell.

It's almost like an exoskeleton.

It's not receptive to signals.

It's not receptive to the electronic signals that are coming from other cells, like communication

of the neurotransmitters.

You need that for your brain to function.

Since Omega-3s contribute to the flexibility of those membranes, they make it so the cells

can communicate better and actually move throughout the brain and give it more fluidity.

This is exceptionally important.

That communication is critical.

Okay, then fat loss.

Omega-3s are huge for fat loss.

And not simply because they're a healthy fat.

You see what they do is they activate something known as uncoupling protein 1.

Uncoupling protein 1 signals our body to crank up its body temperature.

You see, it signals brown fat, which is the good fat in our body, to trigger what is called

thermogenesis.

Thermogenesis is exactly that, where our bodies temperature is increasing and ultimately burning

more fat.

We have good fat and bad fat, white fat and brown fat.

Brown fat is the good fat.

It's the fat that gets our body temperature up but it has to get activated and this uncoupling

protein 1 activates it.

But guess what?

The fish oil activates more of the uncoupling protein 1.

Fish oil equals more uncoupling protein 1 equals more body temperature.

Then we look at muscle growth.

Okay.

It actually has an effect on MTOR.

MTOR is also known as mechanistic target of rapamycin and it's been getting a lot of publicity

lately because it truly is the light switch that flips on protein synthesis.

Without MTOR, protein doesn't get utilized to actually build muscle.

And it's been found that Omega-3s actually trigger more production of MTOR.

Therefore leading to more protein being synthesized and ultimately building more muscle.

Let's talk about fish oil, though because it's not all sustainable and it's not all

equal.

In this particular video, I want to talk about the brand Antler Farms and their Omega-3.

Okay.

Antler Farms has gone above and beyond to source the right kind of sustainable fish

that are still going to give us the proper ratio.

You see, when it comes down to Omega-3s, there are two different kinds of fats in there.

Two different kinds of Omega-3s.

We have EPA and we have DHA.

EPA is good for modulating inflammation throughout the course of the body.

DHA is very, very good for brain health and contributing to that cellular flexibility

and the membrane flexibility that we want.

We need the right ratio of the two.

The problem is most fish oil supplements end up having copious amounts of EPA and very

little DHA, when the ideal ratio, in this particular case, is going to be a three to

two.

Three being EPA and two being DHA.

If that ratio's off, you don't really have the best quality fish oil supplement.

We want that ratio to be dead on.

And that's exactly why Antler Farms takes care of all their business in New Zealand.

You see, New Zealand has extremely strict fish management processes.

What this means that it's the highest quality fish but it's also going to be the cleanest

because New Zealand is such a pristine environment and the waters are so clean, you don't have

nearly as many things like toxins.

You don't have nearly as many heavy metals.

You don't nearly as many PCBs.

All these things that are contributing to making a lot of the fish oils out there very,

very unhealthy.

This is critical and a big reason why Antler Farms' Omega-3 is such a powerful one.

But I want to talk about the kinds of fish that are used.

Okay, the first one is Hoki, New Zealand Hoki.

Now, New Zealand Hoki is a pretty amazing fish in and of itself simply because it already

has a really good ratio of EPA to DHA to begin with.

We're already off to a great start.

But, because of New Zealand's processes, Hoki can actually be traced all the way down to

the vessel that it was caught on, the location in which it was caught and the date in which

it was caught.

That makes it exceptionally powerful and very, very cool when it comes down to knowing what

you're putting in your body.

If we ever had to go back and look at a specific date because there was something in question,

we could actually source it and identify when the Hoki was caught.

The other thing is Hoki is very low on the food chain.

And this is a good thing.

You see, Hoki predominately feeds on squid and crustaceans.

The lower something is down the food chain, the less likely it is to be contaminated.

As you get higher and higher up the food chain, you start looking at some of the more predatory

fish, they are consuming these other fish that already have small amounts of toxins

and as it goes up the food chain, more toxins accumulate.

Plus they also live for a very long period of time, which means they're swimming around

the water absorbing toxins for a longer period of time.

But it also makes them much less sustainable.

When we're looking at smaller fish like this, they're very, very sustainable and they can

be fished for a long period of time.

They are not anywhere near endangered and they populate very, very quickly.

The other fish that is in the Antler Farms' Omega-3 is the South Pacific Anchoveta.

Also known as an anchovy.

And these are fish off the coast of Chile.

Now the cool thing about the Anchoveta is that they're very, very low on the food chain.

They swim down to about 300 feet, so they're down nice and low so they're in a little bit

of a colder water.

But they also feed on plankton.

That means they don't have any toxins in them or very, very little.

They're very, very efficient fish that is extremely, extremely healthy.

But also, they populate very, very fast as well.

There are loads of them.

There's never going to be a sustainability issue.

That is the first thing that we are thinking about, outside of health, is how long can

we do this and can we keep the earth healthy.

These Anchoveta are so sustainable, they actually have a unique award.

Something known as the Marine Stewardship Council has given them an eco label, which

means that they are certified as a very sustainable fish.

It's not just something that I'm saying out of the side of my mouth.

It truly has been deemed to be a very, very sustainable fish.

Now let's talk about the processing for a second because this is important too.

When you look at most fish oil products, they're not going through a squeaky clean process.

You see, this is very, very important because this is where you can actually get rid of

all the toxins.

You see, even clean fish are still going to have a little bit of toxins.

But if you have a state-of-the-art facility like Antler Farms uses, you can actually get

rid of the rest of the PCBs, get rid of any traces of heavy metals and ultimately come

out with a very concentrated, purified form of Omega-3 that's the perfect ratio.

It's in this facility that start to combine the Hoki with the Anchoveta to get the very,

very ideal ratio of Omega-3 EPA with Omega-3 DHA.

Now lastly, we add a little bit of vitamin E to make sure that there's an antioxidant

effect.

Because the last thing you want is fish oil to go rancid.

Fish oil is a relatively unstable fat.

But if you add Omega-3 to it, you get the high potency antioxidants of Omega-3 that

are going to make it so it can combat a little bit more of the oxidant stress that naturally

occurs, even when it's in a bottle.

Now you have an understanding of how Omega-3s work.

You have a general breakdown of EPA, a general breakdown of DHA.

But also, sustainability and why it's so important, not just for the long-term but also for your

health.

Make sure you check out Antler Farms' Omega-3.

And as always, keep it locked in here with Antler Farms.

See you soon.

What you need to know before Saturday's immigration protests

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to rally across the country Saturday to protest the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" immigration policy, according to organizers.

While the main rally will be held in Washington, D. , 628 sister rallies are planned for locations in all 50 states.

"(The) family separation crisis is not over. We have a situation where the Trump administration seems to be aiming to detain families," said Karthik Ganapathy, a MoveOn.org spokesman. . Here's what you need to know before the big day.

Why are people protesting?. In April, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a "zero tolerance" immigration policy, directing federal prosecutors to criminally prosecute all adults crossing the border illegally. Because children cannot be placed in adult facilities, the policy led to the separation of families.

White House chief of staff John Kelly has argued that child separations act as a "deterrent" to prevent families from crossing.

As more and more children were detained under the new policy, many Americans grew outraged. Widely circulated audio of children crying at a detention facility and reports of children sleeping on concrete floors galvanized public opinion against the policy. .

Every living first lady has spoken out against the separations, as have dozens of politicians from both sides of the aisle and religious leaders. Hasn't the problem been fixed? On June 20, Trump signed an executive order designed to stop family separations after a surge of public outcry.

And on June 26, a federal judge in California orderedimmigration authorities on the border to reunite families within 30 days.  Reuniting families will pose a major logistical challenge: More than 2,000 children — many scattered across the country — remain separated from their parents.

But according to a statement from the protest's organizers, these developments do not signify victory.  "A federal judge ruled against Trump's family separation policy — but we know the administration will fight back," the statement said. "We have momentum and we cannot slow down now since the the court ruling along isn't enough and could be overturned." When and where are the protests?  The main protest will take place at 11 a.m.

Saturday in Lafayette Square in front of the White House. More than 16,000 people have RSVP'd to the Facebook event, and another 71,000 have expressed interest.

MoveOn.org estimated tens of thousands to rally in the nation's capital.  For those who can't travel to D.C., hundreds of sister rallies will take place across all 50 states.

See the list here.  Who is organizing the protests? Families Belong Together, a coalition that has advocated against the zero tolerance policy, is sponsoring the event.

It is partnering with MoveOn, the American Civil Liberties Union, Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, the National Domestic Workers Alliance and more than 100 other organizations.  See the full list of organizations here.  How can I prepare? Families Belong Together lists a number of resources on their site, including fact sheets and safety tips.

They've also posted downloadable posters and protest signs.  USA TODAY has compiled a guide to safely participating in protests. Temperatures are expected to rise into the 90s on Saturday in Washington, D.C., and across the Midwest, so protesters should prepare for the heat.     .

Eliminate Mold From Your Washing Machine With Three Green Solutions - Duration: 8:48.

Eliminate Mold From Your Washing Machine With Three Green Solutions

The washing machine has become one of the most indispensable appliances in the household.

It's not just that it washes clothes – it makes laundry so much quicker, and life so much easier.

In fact, few people can imagine their home without the presence of a trusty washing machine.

But even though it does us such a great service, it remains one of the most neglected apparatuses in terms of maintenance and disinfection.

This is because many people mistakenly think it's not necessary to clean it on a regular basis, since it's always in contact with soap and other washing products.

The problem is that, although we may not notice it at first, our washing machine is a hotspot for an accumulation of bacteria and mold that can affect its operation and cause bad odors.

What's more, the gummy lining and the walls retain moisture and detergent residues, which are in effect a paradise for breeding microorganisms.

Fortunately, there's no need to use expensive and aggressive shop-bought chemical to eliminate mold from our washing machines.

Here, we're going to share the secret of 3 fantastic and eco-friendly solutions that allow you to leave your washing machine in perfect condition and eliminate mold.

The best part is that they're cheap or free!.

Go ahead and try them today!.

1, Lemon and Hydrogen Peroxide.

Combining the antimicrobial and antifungal properties of lemon with those of hydrogen peroxide gives us an ideal product to help us maintain our washing machines in perfect condition cheaply and easily.

The mixture gets rid of soap residues that build up.

In turn, it neutralizes bad odors caused by mold.

Ingredients.

6 cups of water (1. 5 liters).

¼ cup of lemon juice (62 ml).

½ cup of hydrogen peroxide (125 ml).

What You'll Need. 1 deep container.

1 microfiber cloth. Preparation.

Put the water in a deep bowl, and then simply add the lemon juice and hydrogen peroxide.

Once the elements are well mixed, it's ready to use!.

How to Use.

Spray the product onto the rubber linings of the washing machine, as well as directly into the drum.

Allow to act for 10 to 15 minutes, and then remove the excess with a microfiber cloth.

Later, to achieve an even more thorough cleaning, put the remaining liquid in one of the soap compartments and start your washing machine on a normal hot cycle.

This last step allows you to disinfect the entire interior of the appliance, as well as all the pipes.

2, Apple Cider Vinegar.

Using just apple cider vinegar diluted in warm water creates a natural disinfectant that gets rid of all traces of the nasty bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms that grow inside your washing machine.

When you apply it, the solution also removes the dark mold stains that form in the gummy linings of the machine.

In addition, it gets rid of soap residues that build up in the drum and pipes.

Ingredients.

5 cups of water (1. 2 liters).

½ cup of apple cider vinegar (125 ml).

What You'll Need.

1 bottle fitted with atomizer spray pump.

1 microfiber cloth. Preparation.

Heat the water.

Once it's boiling, add the apple cider vinegar.

Pour some of the solution into the bottle, making sure to keep the rest.

How to Use.

Spray the liquid onto the rubber and linings of the washing machine, and remove the mold with the help of your microfiber cloth.

Next, put the rest of the solution into the soap compartment of your machine, and start a short cycle.

Once the cycle is finished, open the machine and allow it to air for a couple of hours.

3,White Vinegar and Lemon Juice.

A handy solution of white vinegar and lemon juice helps to disinfect the soap compartments of washing machines, as well as the drum, the pipes and other areas that are tough to access.

These ingredients get rid of the fungi that cause mold, and are great at neutralizing unpleasant odors.

Ingredients.

5 cups of water (1. 2 liters).

1 cup of white vinegar (250 ml).

¼ cup of lemon juice (62 ml).

What You'll Need.

1 bottle fitted with atomizer spray pump.

1 cloth or sponge. Preparation.

Heat the cups of water, and add the white vinegar.

Next, simply add the lemon juice and mix together so that everything is well integrated.

How to Use.

Put a small amount of the mixture into your spray bottle, and divide the rest between the drum of your washing machine and in soap compartment.

Using the spray bottle, direct the liquid towards the gummy lining, and remove the mold with the help of your sponge.

Then, start your machine a short cycle, so the remaining product can clean other hard-to-reach areas.

After the cycle finishes, leave the washing machine open to allow the remaining moisture to dry.

As we've seen, it can take just a few minutes to give your washing machine the thorough clean it needs.

If you're still not doing it, it's easy to get started – just choose any of the solutions we looked at today, and take advantage of its cleaning power at least twice a month!.

Debbie van Horn: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com - Duration: 10:41.

Debbie van Horn: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

Debbie Van Horn is the former medical director for USA gymnastics who worked with disgraced gymnastics team doctor Larry Nasser at an Olympics training facility in Texas.

On Friday, Nasser was charged with six additional counts of sexual assault while Van Horn was charged with one count of sexual assault.

Authorities did not release details about the charge against Van Horn, but the Washington Post reports that she is being charged for an assault Nassar allegedly committed while she was in the room.

The owners of the training ranch, Bela and Martha Karolyi, were not charged with involvement in the case.

Nasser has been accused of molesting at least 150 young women over the past 20 years, all under the guise of carrying out physical therapy.

His victims used to call him the "crotch doc"; the judge who sentenced him said he was "a monster" that is "going to wither.".

He had already been sentenced to serve up to 175 years in prison.

Today's charges are connected to six women who trained at the ranch in the 2000s.

Here's what you need to know.

Van Horn Was Allegedly in the Room When Nasser Abused His Patients.

During her moving testimony in Nasser's trial in January, Mattie Larson, the US gymnasitcs champion, called Nassar a "monster" and added, "I can't even put into words how much I f***ing hate you.

But Larson also talked about Debbie Van Horn's role in the abuse.

She said that Van Horn "would be in the room many of the times Larry abused me.".

An anonymous victim, known only as "Victim 178," also talked about Van Horn when she testified in court.

She said that Van Horn would turn a blind eye to what was happening while Nassar was treating them.

At times, Van Horn remained in the room.

At other times, she left the room, seemingly to avoid seeing what was going on.

Aly Raisman, a two-time USA Olympic gymnast, told 60 minutes last year that the abuse is part of a larger problem with the culture inside of USA Gymnastics.

"Why are we looking at why didn't the girls speak up?" Raisman said.

"Why not look at what about the culture? What did USA Gymnastics do, and Larry Nassar do, to manipulate these girls so much that they are so afraid to speak up?".

A USA Gymnastics Told Girls to Seek Out Either Larry Nasser or Debbie Van Horn If They Had a "Problem" at Night.

Hundreds of girls have come forward and said that Nasser abused them under the guise of providing medical treatment.

An internal memo circulated among gymnasts who were training at the ranch shows that the USA Gymnastics federation was actively encouraging young gymnasts to turn to Dr.

Nasser, instead of to their personal coach.

The memo reads, "If you or anyone in your room has a problem at night (or anytime) please call Dr.

Larry Nassar, Debbie Van Horn, or a USA Gymnastics staff person.

Please do not call your personal coach.".

Van Horn Left USA Gymnastics After Nassar's Trial in January.

In January, USA Gymnastics announced that Debbie Van Horn was no longer working with them.

According to an email obtained by USA Today, Van Horn stopped working for the organization on January 22, 2018.

USA Gymnastics did not respond to questions about why Van Horn was leaving her job.

The email was written by Mark McCreary, the federation's cheif administrative officer, and the subject line was "Notice." The email read, "Effective, January 22, 2018, Debbie Van Horn is no longer employed with USA Gymnastics," McCreary wrote in the email.

"We wish her well in her new endeavors.

In the interim, Jamie Broz will be taking on those duties.".

Athletes Said the Karolyi Ranch was the Perfect Environment For Abusers to Thrive.

Mattie Larson, the 2010 US National champion in the floor exercise, sid that Nasser first started abusing her when she was just 14 years old.

Larson burst out crying on the stand, as she described the abuse that she experienced.

But Larson also painted a chilling picture of the Olympic training facility.

She called the Karolyi ranch "the perfect enviroment for abusers and molesters to thrive," since it was remote and extremely isolated.

There was no cell phone access, and gymnasts were encouraged to ignore their own needs and feelings in order to dedicate themselves completely to their training.

Larson said that the trainers pushed her and other athletes to train and compete even while they were injured.

The trainers pushed the gymnasts to work for 6 hour stretches without food or water, and constantly monitored their weight.

While she was at the ranch, Larson developed an eating disorder and suffered panic attacks.

She even tried to give herself a concussion by banging her head against the bathtub so that she wouldn't have to go to the ranch on year.

Larson said that the Karolyis contributed to the toxic atmosphere.

She testified that Martha Karolyi also "shunned" her when she made a few mistakes during the 2010 World Championships.

Larson said, "I have never felt so small and disposable in all my life.".

Those who watched the case say there is a long list of people who enabled Nasser to carry out abuse — either by creating an environment full of fear and toxicity, or by turning a blind eye to the abuse that was going on right in front of them.

Lawyers Representing Nassar's Victims Say More of His Enablers Should Face Trial.

John Manly, who represents many of Nasser's victims, said he was angry that more charges have been filed against Nasser instead of against the Karolyis, who apparently turned a blind eye to what was going on at their ranch.

"Charging Larry Nassar with more crimes makes about as much sense as digging up Lee Harvey Oswald and charging him with JFK's murder," said Manly.

No USA Gymnastics officials are being charged in the case either, although there are signs that some officials knew that the abuse was taking place and failed to report it.

Failing to report abuse is a misdemeanor, and the statute of limitations for misdemeanors is two years in Texas.

The most recent abuse case took place in 2015.

Stephanie Stroud, an assistant District Attorney for Walker County, Texas, said that charges would have been filed against some USA Gymnastics officials if the case had been brought earlier.

Manly called the investigation a "whitewash" and said that the Walker County Sheriff's Department, the Texas Rangers, and the Walker Country District Attorney were protecting the Karolyis.

He said, "It boggles the mind that we have Olympians that were abused hundreds of times there…and they can't find one criminal charge against anybody who ran the place.".

Manly tweeted today, "Newsflash to Walker County DC Martha Karolyi was in charge of the US team.

She was the national Team Coordinator.

All medical staff reported to her per USAG guidelines.

World Cup Diary: Win or you are out, says Colombia coach Pekerman - Duration: 5:53.

World Cup Diary: Win or you are out, says Colombia coach Pekerman

World Cup Diary: Win or you are out, says Colombia coach Pekerman.

The World Cup now switches from the pool phase to knockout football as pressure goes up a notch and it is do-or-die for the 16 remaining sides.

Today we have news from Tunisia‚ Colombia‚ Spain‚ Iceland and a welcome lack of racism in Russia.

FAR TO GO Tunisia ended their World Cup with a consolation 2-1 victory over Panama on Thursday as they bowed out of the competition‚ but coach Nabil Maaloul says there is no real cause for celebration unless the game undergoes an overhaul in the country.

"We have four Arab teams that are not yet at the required level for the tournament‚ they still have to work harder and improve their performances‚" said Maaloul.

"In order to do that‚ we need to have more of our players in professional leagues so they can learn and grow.

"I don't think we have high-quality performance‚ we need to change our lifestyle because it is not in line with high-level football‚ we need to change the way we train.

"We need two more generations to reach [the top] level of performance in terms of fitness and physical strength.

We are far from the required level." The victory for Tunisia was their first at the World Cup in 40 years.

TO THE DEATH! England may be 'celebrating' their loss to Belgium on Thursday night as it gives them a perceived easier route to the World Cup semifinals‚ but their next round opponents Colombia have vowed to fight "to the death" to beat them.

"I definitely think England have what it takes to do well‚ but it will be a match in which Colombia is going to be confident of playing at a high level and getting a good result‚" Colombia coach Jose Pekerman.

"Obviously England can have a good day or an even better day.

England is a young team‚ has a lot of harmony and you can tell they have a lot of faith in themselves.

"Now a different kind of match is heading our way‚ these will be completely full-on‚ to the death matches‚ win or you are out.

These are extreme situations." Colombia will be sweating over the fitness of star man James Rodriguez‚ who came off injured after 30 minutes in the 1-0 win over Senegal on Thursday.

PEACE AND LOVE Russian football has a long history with acts of racism and there had been fears that this World Cup would be a hot-bed for right-wing extremists in the country.

But so far there have been no incidents reported and the Russians have been exemplary hosts‚ according to Piara Powar‚ the head of the FARE network‚ an organisation that monitors discrimination in European soccer.

"There has been nothing on a major scale and nothing from Russians‚" Powar said.

"That was one of the concerns of course coming into the tournament.

So that's all good news from our point of view." But Powar added that it should not mean that Russia does not have a racism problem.

"We know that during the World Cup period‚ the population sort of understand that they are in the spotlight.

The world is watching." A BLOODY ANIMAL After his horrendous blunder in the 3-3 draw with Portugal and an iffy World Cup to date‚ Spain goalkeeper David de Gea is putting in the hard yards in training to get himself right for the Last 16 clash with hosts Russia on Sunday.

De Gea has come in for criticism for his performances‚ especially from the Spanish media‚ but midfielder Thiago Alcantara says the Manchester United star is determined to put things right.

"It is the most unfortunate position on the pitch but if you have seen David's games for Manchester United and his other games for Spain you'll be able to tell he is an outstanding goalkeeper‚" Thiago said.

"The media also need to take a look at themselves and realise what a great player he is.

Look how many times he has been named best goalkeeper in the Premier League.

He works like a bloody animal and the confidence we have in him is gigantic." NO REST There was no time for Iceland coach Heimir Hallgrimsson to dwell on his side's first round exit from the World Cup as he took centre-stage at another event … refereeing a junior tournament in his home town of Vestmannaeyjar.

It was a long way from Russia and the memories of holding Lionel Messi and Argentina to a 1-1 draw in their opening game as Hallgrimsson kept teenagers in check with whistle in hand.

Hallgrimsson also still has a dental practice in Vestmannaeyjar‚ which has a population of 4‚000.
