California Handyman Law Explained / What you can and can not do - Duration: 6:47.

Hey friends, Allen Lee here with Honest Lee Handyman Services in Sacramento California.

Today I wanted to talk to you specifically about the handyman laws and regulations here in California.

Now knowing the laws and regulations in the state that you live in is one of the most

important things that you can do when you are starting out your handyman business.

For me being in California that was one of the first things that I ever did when I even

thought of starting my handyman business, was really research what the handyman laws

were in California.

Now this is very hard to find, If you guys are in any state you can probably relate with

what I am saying is that it is very hard to find out exactly what the laws and regulations

are in your state regarding handymans and contractors.

So I was told many different things, everything from you can't do this, you can't do that,

you can't do this and it all contradicted itself.

So what I personally did is I signed up for quite a few courses and training classes at

the CSLB which is the contractors state license board here in California, it's actually not

too far from where I live.

So I signed up for some classes there, took those, and I asked specifically what were

the laws regarding handymen in California.

And this is what they told me, they said the laws regarding handymen in California is if

you are an unlicensed contractor meaning a handyman and you don't have a contractors

license, you can only legally perform work up to $500 including labor and materials.

Now this means that you cannot split a job up at all.

So a lot of times people tell me, like customers tell me they'll say "oh we can pay you $500

this week $500 next week and $500 the week after.

According to the state of California, that is a no no and completely illegal and you

cannot split up jobs like that.

And again this is my understanding of the law so uh don't take what I am saying as truth

and facts um the final be all end all I would highly recommend you do all your own research

because laws are so tricky.

When you're gonna start something you really want to take responsibility for that and take

that into your own hands and figure out exactly what it is for you.

So this is how I understand them and this is the way the things have been explained

to me um if you guys have anything to add to this video I would love to hear it.

Um but alos in California regarding trades what trades you can work in and what trades

you cannot work in so legally at least the way I understand it if you are an unlicensed

contractor you can work in any trade you want.

So you can do painting, you can do plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, uh but you cannot

do jobs that are over $500 including labor and materials so obviously that law there,

the $500 limit excludes some of those trades so like roofing well you can probably do roofing

repairs and roof patches but you couldn't replace a whole roof that would obviously

exceed the $500 limit um and so from what I understand and what I've been told about

the projects law is it's $500 per project including labor and materials so if someone

wanted you to install a ceiling fan in one room and a kitchen sink I mean a kitchen faucet

in the other room then you could legally do that, but if they were remodeling their whole

house and they just wanted to hire you as a handyman to come in and install a ceiling

fan and a kitchen faucet, you technically could not do that cuz it's part of a whole

project so I hope that makes sense so say like someone buys a bathroom vanity for $499

I asked them this particular question this is kind of crazy, if they buy a bathroom vanity

for $499 you can only legally charge them $1 for labor to install that vanity now that's

completly asinine I know it's crazy and a lot of people say well it's just worth just

trying everything and you know just hoping you don't get caught but there are believe

it or not a lot of stings that go on um state governments are pretty strong especially here

in California they want to uphold their authority so if you check out the CSLB which is the

contractors state license board they have a YouTube channel and you can see all their

stings that they do.

They do quite a few stings all around California that are catching these unlicensed contractors

these people that operate as a handyman but yet they do Contractors size work and they

don't disclose that or anything like that so there's a lot of risks in this so that's

why I say to do your own research and figure out exactly what the laws are in your own

city or town um and also another thing is advertising is huge.

They can I mean so I don't know if it's just California but the California state government

is very huge and they want to just play their authority so even advertising right so if

you advertise like say you're a handyman Joe Shmoe handyman and you put on your tool trailer

I do painting I do electrical I do plumbing technically, there has been cases out there,

where they have fined the person and they have given them the same penalty for contracting

without a license because in their eyes at least it doesn't really make sense to me painting

can the whole painting category can go over $500 plumbing can go over $500 electrical

can go over $500 so what I have been advised to do and what makes it legal is advertise

that I do minor painting, minor plumbing, minor electrical, so putting the word minor

in front of it in some sense where it doesn't go over $500 even though I think minor can

definitely go over five hundred dollars but you want to stay above the law and not break

the law as much as you can so I'm doing this series right now where I want to help people

out one of the most common questions that I get is people ask me what are the handyman

laws and regulations in my state and honestly I only know Californias laws and regulations

right now but I want to expand that I want to figure out what other peoples laws and

regulations are and make videos on that and that would help them out as well.

So if I get enough questions for a specific state in the comments section below I will

definitely do your state next and just launch a full investigation on that state kind of

like I did in California figure out exactly what the laws are and bring that here to you

guys on YouTube so comment in the comment section below with what state you're in also

what country you're in what your laws are and like this video please subscribe to this

channel and check out all my other videos because I have a whole bunch of them pertaining

on a whole bunch of things all on the handyman lifestyle. So thank you all so much for tuning

in and I hope you guys have a fantastic day.

CREDIT CARD - Duration: 9:03.

Okay so your research and credit card or credit cards Duane here with how to

build credit TV and in this video I'm going to talk about what the difference

is between a secured credit card and an unsecured credit card. We're also going

to talk about the one scenario where maybe okay or better for you to get a

secured credit card over a unsecured credit card. But before we get started I

have a quick message.

Once again my name is Duane with how to build credit TV and this channel

offers 100% free information about how to build credit and ways to improve your

credit score. We also talked about how to get cash back actual cash money from

using credit cards, as well as credit card reviews. If this sounds like

something which you're interested be sure to subscribe to our channel and

click the notification bell so you don't miss a thing. As a matter of fact

subscribing right now can help our channel grow faster which will allow us

to do two things. Number 1. get this information out to more people and

number 2. make it a lot easier to continue to upload videos just like this

one. So if you're new here please subscribe. Alright now that we have all

of that out the way let's talk a little bit more about credit cards or more

specifically the difference between a secured credit card and a unsecured

credit card. So an unsecured credit card is a traditional credit card that's what

most of us know as a regular credit card. A secured credit card however is a

credit card where you have to put a deposit down in order to get credit from

the bank. In some cases you can put down between 49, 99 dollars and 200 dollars to

get a secured card. Or in most cases a secured card works this way in the sense

that you put down what you want your credit limit to be in order to get that

credit card. So if you wanted a credit limit of $500 you would deposit $500

with the bank in other words securing that credit or

securing that credit card. And the bank would then issue you a credit card with

a credit limit of $500. So they would just hold your money like collateral and

that is what a secured credit card is, so in this video we're going to talk about

once again the difference between the secured credit card and a unsecured

credit card. So we're going to compare them in certain categories we're going

to be talking about annual fees we're going to be talking about APR or

interest rate that they charge. We're also going to be talking about any kind

of rewards program that the credit card may have to offer. So that's we're going

to be talking about in greater detail. Okay so for the most part a secured

credit card versus a unsecured credit card they look both the same. There's no

difference as far as looking at it. There's no way that someone's going to be able

to look at the secured card and say oh man this is a secured card I can tell

that you deposited X amount of dollars with the bank in order to get this card.

Nope that's not the case at all these cards look exactly the same whether it's

a secured credit card or a unsecured credit card. So when it comes to annual

fees in regards to secured credit card versus a unsecured credit card there

really is no difference. There are secured credit cards out there that does

not have an annual fee there are secured credit cards out there that do have an

annual fee. The same is true for unsecured credit cards, once again there

are unsecured credit cards which is traditional credit card that have annual

fees. And there are unsecured credit cards that do not have an annual fee so

as far as this category is concerned they're both equal. The only difference

is that if you have to pay an annual fee with a secured credit card, you have to

pay that and you also have to you have to put down the deposit in order to get

that particular credit card and that limit the way you want it to be. So if

you want 500 dollars you'd have to put down $500 and you also still have to pay

the annual fee. So that is the comparison between the secured credit card and the

unsecured credit card in regards to annual fee. The next category when it

comes to the differences between secured credit card and unsecured credit card is

APR our interest that they charge. In other words if you spent $1,000 on your

secured card versus the unsecured credit card. How much interest are the credit

card company charging you? So I can tell you right now that there is not a huge

difference as to what the interest is with a secured card versus a unsecured

credit card. They're both the same, the way I look at it personally is I don't

really care what the interest rate is or the APR is because I'm going to pay my

credit card off in full every single month. That's just what I do it's the best

thing to do. I'm not giving the credit cards my money they're not making any

money off of me. I just used the credit card as a tool I used to get cash back

or I use it to get points towards redeeming for travel or hotels. I'm

actually going to be starting to do that pretty soon here within the

year. I'm probably going to apply for one of the chase cards so that I could

redeem the points for you know a hotel stay or travel. I'm looking to travel in

the future. So anyway that's pretty much how that works as far as the APR is

concerned it's not a big deal to me I just like I said I pay it off every

single month. So the fact that a secured credit card or unsecured credit card has

an APR is irrelevant to me and I would encourage you to do the same thing.

Definitely pay off your balances don't have money sitting on the credit card

because they're gonna make money off of you and that just doesn't make sense. And

in addition to that having a balance on your credit card does not help your

credit score necessarily okay. The next category that I want to discuss between

a secured credit card and an unsecured credit card is cash back or a cash

reward program or any kind of reward programs that a secured credit card

would offer versus an unsecured credit card. Now there are a lot of perks to

having an unsecured credit card this is a traditional credit card. There are some

credit cards that have great cash back or reward programs for unsecured credit

card. There aren't a lot of secured credit cards that have a good reward

program or cash back program. One of the only ones that I know that I like quite

a bit is actually the Discover card. They do have cash back there are some

more secured credit cards out there where you can get cash back. But the

purpose of getting a secured card is not necessarily to get cash back but if

you're a nerd like me I like that aspect of it and I'm taking full advantage full

advantage of that I'm actually a little over six hundred dollars right now with

my Discover card. If you are interested in learning more about getting cash back

you can check out the video I'll put a link right here at the top right of the

screen so you guys can have a look at that. So when it comes to cashback or

any kind of a war program the unsecured credit card the traditional credit card

they really shine in this category because there are a lot more credit

cards on secured credit cards that have great cash back programs and reward

programs. So it would be to your benefit to have an unsecured credit card

in this particular category. So earlier in the video I mentioned where there

might be a scenario where it would be better to get a secured credit card

versus an unsecured credit card and this particular scenario would be like if you

have bad credit or if you knew that you weren't going to be approved for a

particular credit card or you just didn't want to take the chance and

getting your credit pulled and being rejected. Because let's face it nobody

likes to be rejected this is when a secured credit card can be pretty

powerful. I personally used and used currently secured credit cards to build

my credit score to even rebuild my credit score.

I had three regular unsecured credit card and I really wanted to re-establish

a relationship with Discover Card so I went ahead and got a secured credit card

with Discover Card. This is the same exact card that I've been able to

accumulate over $600 worth of cash back at the moment and still counting. So

secured credit cards kind of get a bad rep but they can be very powerful

depending on what you're using them for. Thank you so much for watching this

video, if you found it helpful please give us a thumbs up it helps the channel

quite a bit. If you have any questions leave them down with and comment below

I'll answer it as soon as I see it. My question for you is do you prefer

secured credit card over an unsecured credit card. As a matter of fact what is

your favorite credit card at the moment let me know in the comments below. Thanks

again for watching this video if you haven't subscribe to the channel please

be sure to do so. Once again we talk about everything you need to know about

credit whether you're looking to establish credit, build credit, rebuild

6 Skills for Hacking Happiness - Duration: 8:20.

you're having an awesome day because today is an awesome den my goal is to

inspire you become the greatest version of yourself I believe is that if we all

become great version or versions of ourselves that is how we make the world

a better place welcome today's video six skills for

hacking happiness I know throughout my life I believe that

either you're happy or you weren't there's really nothing you could do for

that at all but I was I found now they years later that I was dead wrong about

that happiness is a skill that we can actually train and in that most times

because happiness is caught abated within us Ready's that's where it should

be called abated and the only thing you can really control in this crazy world

over of ours is yourself so the quote for today's video is view

yourself as much as anybody in the entire universe is there a pure love and

affection that quote is by the Buddha there the first skill we're hacking

happiness is self-love I know people are always talking about love yourself love

yourself and you're like what the heck does that even mean

well self-love is basically treating yourself good and you can do that

through eating good and exercising and thinking positive thoughts and just

generally become more positive there's also a father self-love techniques I

forget his name but in the book love yourself like your life depends on it

one thing he has is like an actual mental loop that he does himself that he

thinks himself is something I've done and it does how about a lot

and basically it's a powerful phrase that empowers you to think more

positively more positively and the one he did is I love myself and Alan really

resonates for me but if that doesn't resonate with you he can do

I'd like myself if you really want or I am enough or I'm worthy just think that

over and over and over in your head what do you every have free time and

eventually as our mind works on past memories and eventually that mental that

becomes a past memory it becomes more and more it becomes your can become your

main mental open your mind and the second skill for hacking happiness is

gratitude there's been studies that show that just writing down five things that

you're grateful about in your life every day can increase your happiness by 10%

and I found that gratitude be super powerful in my life meaning because the

more you're grateful for the more you're focusing on the positive in your life

and the more you're gonna bring positive in your life and now will definitely

make you more and more happier as time goes on the third skill for hacking

happiness is forgiveness now forgiveness isn't so much about what

it does for somebody else it's about the impact it has on you it helps you let go

of any heavy emotions about any person or any situation when you forgive some

money and a really simple way of doing this is I do this part of my morning

morning routine my morning meditation I do actually do vision knock eonni six

phase meditation which is pretty powerful stuff I definitely suss

checking it out if you've never heard of it before but part of it is a

forgiveness practice and basically what this does

you can close your eyes bring the mine somebody that you need to forget

somebody that's wrong to you it can be a person or situation or anything like

that and you basically just picture them there in front of them you say I forgive

you I hope that you forgive me too and then basically what you do is you

breathe in produce any type of negative emotions that come up with the person or

situation and then your pictures them saying to you I forgive you I hope you

forgive me - the same thing again you breathe in and breathe out any emotions

that come up and basically that's it it's a really simple practice and it's

really powerful because now you're letting go any type of negative emotions

like forgiveness can literally heal your heart and make you more positive and

actually it does that by you releasing negative emotions helps release negative

emotions negative anything that's keeping you down your life it can help

you release that and it's it's I can't explain enough how powerful this okay

you're gonna have to try it out for yourself the fourth skill for hacking

happiness is generosity be generous whether it's given somebody a smile and

to brighten their day or Ori Wang mentions in this book that you go in

relationship to give this can be a way to be generous

give me generous there's so many different ways you can do it on Marcus

Roth grants in this book prosperity secret he's just to give away 10% of the

money that you made dec me away means items where you can start smaller you

can start at anywhere you need to and work your way up to there and you can

plant a tree somewhere you can you can be generous by giving your time

by going to a place like and any type of volunteer work when you're giving your

time all these going they're being generous and they actually help you

become more happier what do you do stuff like it wait number five is to have a

positive outlook and this is so powerful because the more positive you are the

more positive about your outlook is don't have to you're gonna be one thing

you can do is a lot of people are like I'll be happy when this happens it's all

fine and dandy but you're gonna be chasing happiness for rester and I

you're better off doing like the reverse loop whatever it's called and basically

what that is is um you basically look to where you were to where you're right now

and you're Satan you can be like wow I advances far whatever it is just look

how you we're back then and look where you right now most of time you're gonna

be in a better position or better shape than you are now and that can really

help out with your positive outlook because you can be like hey I got this

far now just imagine how far I can get then and now you're happy in the now

instead of focusing on being happy sometime in the future right now scale

number six for hacking packing happiness is practice resilience resilience is a

super powerful thing like sometimes we have let downs basically learning how

not let there's let downs get you down or let failure gets you down news

failures and learning opportunities always be optimistic and do your best to

have a positive outlook on all the time as much as you can and this all will

help you become more resilient so when bad things happen you can spring up

faster and that doesn't bug you as much and learn from and be able to move

forward in your life and this will contribute to your happiness as well so

are there any other skills you believe should be in this video for hacking

happiness in there's anything else you would like me to create a video on any

topic for a future video during the comments below I just want to say thank

you watch this video you told me reek of Awesomeness

maybe happy healthy at peace in live in abundance

much love I challenge you to live your version of an extraordinary life
