Kepler Track: Alpine Tramping (Hiking) Series | New Zealand - Duration: 5:55.
Tucked away in the southwestern corner
of the South Island
lies a 1.2 million hectare time capsule
of a beautiful prehistoric New Zealand.
Luckily, keen adventurers can explore
Fiordland's unique landscape through one
of the many walking tracks that weave through
this glacially carved land.
One of New Zealand's Great Walks takes you
high above Fiordland for a truly breathtaking Alpine adventure.
The Kepler Track is a 60 kilometre loop
that takes you along lakes,
through dense beech forests
and up into a spectacular alpine world.
The Alpine section of the Kepler Track
runs for approximately 14.6 kilometres
and offers stunning panoramic views
of Te Anau and the neighbouring mountain ranges.
The Great Walks season is the best time
of year to attempt this tramp
as you'll find all the huts are fully open
and track conditions are actively monitored and managed.
The Kepler's close proximity to Te Anau
leads people to believe that it's suitable
for tramping year-round.
But outside of the Great Walks season
this is not a good idea
as facilities are greatly reduced and snow normally
covers the track, making it hard to see.
The average daily summer temperature
normally sits around five to nine degrees (C).
and true to Fiordland form, you can
expect rain for over 200 days of the year.
It's important to remember that you
will be in an Alpine environment
which means there is a good chance you'll
experience heavy rain, strong winds,
snow and freezing temperatures,
even during the Great Walks season.
So warm and waterproof clothing will be essential.
You'll also need a good pair of tramping (hiking) boots
and make sure you carry enough water
for the whole day.
As with all walks and tramps in New Zealand
make sure you 'leave your intentions' with a trusted contact
and inform them when you've finished your trip.
You can find out more about 'leaving your intentions'
at the Mountain Safety Council website.
Day 1 of your journey starts on the
shores of Lake Te Anau.
From here, you'll tramp through the forest for about an
hour and a half before reaching Broad Bay Campsite.
This is where the climbing begins
as you'll tramp 8.2 kilometres up to Luxmore Hut
which takes approximately 3 to 4 hours.
A good amount of fitness is needed
as this will be a steep, steady
climb to the top.
Once you leave the bushline you will be exposed
to an open Alpine environment.
Wind and rain can be especially brutal at this point,
so take care on your final push to Luxmore Hut
as you will already be tired from a long day of tramping.
Your second day consists of a five to six hour tramp
along the ridge line to Iris Burn Hut.
This means that you will be left exposed
to any and all weather that comes your way
with very little shelter and no
alternative routes to take.
Talk to the hut warden and consult the weather forecast
before committing to a full day on the ridgeline.
If you decide to carry on, then your day will start
with a gentle climb up Mount Luxmore.
You will be fairly sheltered by the mountain on this section
but as you round the corner, you will be met
with the full brunt of any incoming fronts.
This makes this spot a good point to stop
and assess the conditions for the rest of the day.
Look to the west to see what weather may be coming
and then you can make an informed
decision on whether to continue on
or turn back and try again on a better day.
Avalanches are a very real risk during winter and spring.
Don't continue past this point if snow has settled on the ground
unless you are experienced in off-track navigation,
avalanche awareness and winter climbing
as well as carrying the proper equipment
to safely travel over snow.
If no snow is present then you
will continue on to Forest Burn Shelter.
The track is well-formed most of the way
with it narrowing down in some parts
so just watch your step in these sections.
Two hours after leaving the hut
you will reach the Forest Burn Shelter.
This is a very basic emergency shelter
that lets you take a break from the elements
and have some lunch.
You will also find a toilet here
but remember that the shelter is not for sleeping in
unless it's an emergency.
You'll continue along the ridge line
for a further two hours
before reaching Hanging Valley Shelter.
The track weaves up and down along the way
and you'll get some pretty stunning views of Fiordland.
Hanging Valley Shelter is another good spot to stop and
have a break from the elements.
A toilet is also available here and again,
no sleeping unless it's an emergency.
From here, you'll begin the descent down into the bush line.
Some stairs have been installed to make this section
a bit easier for you.
Take care and watch your footing as you descend
as there is a steep drop-off on both sides
and bad weather can make this a very hazardous descent.
Shortly after you will reach the end of the ridge line
and start zigzagging down into the bush.
The steep descent continues the whole way down
to Iris Burn Hut and it takes approximately
an hour and a half from this point.
Walking poles can be really helpful in reducing
the stress on your knees.
Iris Burn Hut is a very welcome sight and
marks the end of the Alpine section.
From here the tramp will take another two days
bringing you down the Iris Burn Valley
and along the shore of Lake Manapouri.
The Kepler track offers some of the best
Alpine scenery in the world
but be sure to know what you're committing to.
Aim to walk only during the Great Walks season.
Find out the latest information on track conditions
by talking to the DOC staff
at the Fiordland National Park Visitor centre in Te Anau.
Make sure you check the official Fiordland National Park
weather forecast at MetService.com.
And finally
don't forget to 'leave your intentions'
with a trusted contact.
Now, get out there and enjoy
one of New Zealand's best Alpine adventures.

For those without a cable subscription, you may be looking for alternative ways to watch the show and you have come to the right place for answers.
If you don't have cable or can't get to a TV, you can watch a live stream of the Travel Channel on your computer, phone or streaming device via one of the following cable-free, live-TV streaming services:.
Hulu With Live TV.

You can sign up for "Hulu with Live TV" right here, and you can then watch a live stream of the show on your computer via the Hulu website, or on your phone, tablet or streaming device via the Hulu app.
If you can't watch live, "Hulu with Live TV" comes with both its extensive on-demand library (which has most shows available after they air) and 50 hours of Cloud DVR storage (with the ability to upgrade to "Enhanced Cloud DVR," which gives you 200 hours of DVR space and the ability to fast forward through commercials).

Travel Channel is included in Philo's main 43-channel bundle, which is the cheapest among all streaming services if you plan on keeping it long-term.
You can sign up for a free 7-day trial right here, and you can then watch the show live on your computer via the Philo website, or on your phone, tablet or streaming device via the Philo app.
If you can't watch live, Philo also allows you to DVR programs and watch them up to 30 days later.
And even if you forget to DVR something, Philo also comes with a 72-hour rewind feature, which allows you to replay any event that has aired in the last three days.
.
The live Ghost Adventures special airs for four hours tonight and then has an encore presentation of the special, airing directly after it, from 12 – 4 a.m.
So, if you miss the first showing, there is more than one.
The official Xfinity synopsis of tonight's special reads, "The crew spends a night in Zak Bagans' The Haunted Museum, which contains hundreds of haunted objects, including Peggy the Doll and the Dybbuk Box; Zak attempts to open the Dybbuk Box, believed to be haunted by a malicious spirit; Josh gates hosts.".
Gates, who is hosting the special, is a television host and producer, known for shows including Expedition Unknown and Destination Truth.
He has also hosted the Ghost Hunters Live Halloween special in the past.
This year's special takes place in Ghost Adventures star Zak Bagans' own museum, which is in Las Vegas, Nevada.
On the museum's official website, it gives a backstory on the facility and Bagans' reason for opening such a place.
The website states, "The 11,000-square foot property built in 1938 was originally owned by Cyril S.
Wengert, a prominent businessman.
Through the years, hostile spirits have been rumored to roam the halls terrorizing past occupants, family members who passed away there whose energy remains.
Long-time Las Vegans even claim dark rituals took place in the home's basement during the 1970's.
Paranormal enthusiasts visiting Zak Bagans' The Haunted Museum will venture down creepy winding hallways and secret passages into more than 30 rooms that rival scenes from Hollywood horror films, setting the stage for frightening facts about each paranormal piece such as the Dybbuk Box known as the world's most haunted object.".
The website also states, "Perhaps most unsettling, the original staircase from Indiana's "Demon House," notorious for powerful paranormal activity before being demolished in 2014.
The wooden banister and creaky steps now stand in a dimly-lit corner, resting on a blanket of dirt from the location.
Following its installation, a group of construction workers walked off the job and refused to come back.
For that reason, visitors are required to sign a waiver stating they understand the risks before entering." How crazy is that?!.

Sam and Daniel on 'Are You the One' | Heavy.com - Duration: 3:49.
Sam and Daniel on 'Are You the One' | Heavy.com
Tonight, Asia will try and dismantle Sam's relationship with Daniel on a new episode of Are You the One.
Last week, Daniel and Sam sat down for a serious conversation, during which Daniel explained he was worried the two weren't a match.
"To be honest, I don't think we're the perfect match," he told a surprised Sam.
"I had an ex just like you… and you had an ex just like me," he said.
Daniel went on to tell cameras that he thought it would be best for the show, and everyone in the house, if he tried to find another match.
He did admit that it would hurt him, but said that it's possible that he and Sam haven't been one of the four beams that keep lighting up each week.
"It's about using my heart and my head to get to the bottom of this," he said.
That's about when Sam retorted, "You guys are dummies!" She then tells cameras that playing 'strategies' hasn't worked for the house.
"If we lose and you and I end up being a match, I will hate the fu***** sh** out of you," she says.
What do we know about Daniel? He's a lifeguard and is definitely the jealous type.
Sam, meanwhile, is driven and a manager of three clubs in Chicago.
Her bio on MTV reads, "Unsurprisingly, Samantha is looking for a man who can match her ambition, but everyone seems to fall short.
Furthermore, her blunt and down-to-business manner of dating leaves little room for romance and leaves her dates feeling more like an interview.".
Now that they're getting down to the wire on the show, the pressure is certainly on.
Things came to a head between Brett and Nutsa last week– the two have been back and forth for a while now.
Last week, Brett told cameras that she was clearly putting more into the relationship than him.
"And for some reason, I'm not doing the same.
I can just have a physical fun little connection but nothing deep, and I won't even care if it ends or breaks off." Brett ended up telling Nutsa that he wanted to match with Bria at the upcoming ceremony.
The next day, however, he took back his word, and told Nutsa, "I think you're great — I think it's me getting in my own way a lot of times with things." The two finished up the conversation by sharing a kiss with one another.
Are the two a perfect match? Find out on tonight's episode of Are You the One.

Stephanie & Travis on 'Real Housewives of Dallas' | Heavy.com - Duration: 3:40.
Stephanie & Travis on 'Real Housewives of Dallas' | Heavy.com
Tonight on The Real Housewives of Dallas, Stephanie and Travis renew their vows after a decade of marriage.
"It's important to me because it's important to you," Travis told Stephanie during last week's episode.
"I want you to be happy.".
Stephanie has been extremely open with cameras about how RHOD has impacted her life.
Speaking in an interview last year, the reality TV star said, "I feel like I've learned more about myself in one year than I have my entire life… My husband [Travis Hollman] is amazing.
Whenever I was approached to do the show, I did not think I could do it.
He was like, give yourself permission to, you know, try something and be yourself, and the worst thing that happens is you don't go back for a season two.".
Stephanie continued by admitting that she and Travis are no strangers to therapy.
"We started before the show, and we did it the entire time we were filming, 'cause I felt like it's easy for people to lose sight of who they are, and I didn't want to lose sight of what is important, which is my husband and my children.".
.
On last week's episode, fans learned that Travis is leaving to go to Harvard Business School.
Stephanie explained that while she was very happy for him, she was also very sad for herself.
She admitted she has experienced depression throughout her life and is worried about how she'll handle Travis being gone.
Travis' advice? "Take it one day at a time.".
And why is Travis going to Harvard in the first place?.
According to Bravo TV, Harvard will be a three-year business program for Travis, which Stephanie says will be a "game changer for the family.
The outlet goes on to say that his stepfather, Thomas Dudley, was a governor who helped found the college's administration back in 1650.
They write, " According to Harvard bylaws from the agreement, anyone in the Dudley family can attend the school.
Unfortunately, Travis didn't know about this the first time he went to college, but it's better late than never, right?".
