- 'Cause this whole crazy thing's

kinda got me thinking about if I'd ever,

you know, like, eat a person.

And not in a starvation-type deal

like the Donner party or whatever.

That goes without saying.

Your fat white ass is pioneer jerky.

I'm talking about where you voluntarily

eat a guy like he's just damn dinner.

Or a woman. Ooh, or a teenage girl.

But I wouldn't want her to get killed

just so I could eat her, so maybe--I don't know--

what if it was one of these native girls'

confirmation or whatever,

so she gets a ceremonial bath,

scrubbed head to toe,

and then her whole body gets shaved...

- Why--

- Shut up. Let me finish.

But then on the way to the ceremony,

this tender, hairless young thing

has a massive yet painless brain aneurysm

and falls into a vat of braising liquid?

- Why the hell would--

[man laughs] Wow!

- What the-- - Huh?

- You just described,

almost word for word,

what's gonna happen to you guys

over the next two days.

I mean, is that goose bumps or what?

- Who-- -

What Is Consumerism? Consumerism explained. - Duration: 6:50.

Hi guys!

Today we'll be talking about consumerism.

If you don't know who I am, my name is Maike I am a makeup artist.

I make beauty, makeup whatever explanation videos like this one, so if at any point you

think you might support like to support me you can always hit the support button down

below.

It's free!

Consumerism has been talked about quite a lot in the YouTube community in the recent

months, because people are finally starting to go against that consumerist lifestyle,

but what exactly is consumerism and what's the problem with it?

That's why I'm here and that's what I'm gonna explain to you.

In the sense I wanna talk about, consumerism is a cultural model that promotes the acquisition

of goods and especially the purchase of goods as a vehicle for personal satisfaction and

economic stimulation.

Whooow.

I'm gonna post my sources down below.

So what does this mean?

This means that people have an attitude of thinking that when they buy things, it'll

make them happy.

Now we can build up on this model and have a model called consumer capitalism.

This basically means that we have entered a model where the consumer already has all

the things he or she needs, but companies are making us believe that we need way, way

more than that to be satisfied and they're doing this just so they can increase their

own personal sales of course.

So how do companies do this?

The first way is the promotion of luxury items.

Basically you, you have this on YouTube, you have ads, you have ads in magazines, but you

also have the YouTubers displaying to you what luxury goods they have and then you want

these as well of course, because you want a life like this YouTuber.

A lot of times these things are not actually displayed as ads, sometimes this is because

of PR, this is something free they got sent, so it's not really an ad in that sense but

they are showing you something you might not be able to afford, but you want, because you

want that lifestyle.

The second way companies do this is that they perhaps make a new formula or something or

just improve an old formula, so for example, you have the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting

Spray.

This changed its design completely and it's supposed to make you think oh it's better

now, I have to buy this as well.

Then you have a company like Huda Beauty which have reformulated and revamped basically their

Rose Gold palette and they're selling it to you as something better and yes, maybe the

formula is better, but really you already might have this palette at home but now because

it's so much better, you have to get this one of course as well and the third way is

a built in obsolesce.

Basically this means that you already have something that is functioning but you want

the newer better thing, so you are not satisfied with the smart phone you already have, you

need the new smart phone because it's just so much better.

Or in a way to relate this to makeup, perhaps you already have a concealer that you're pretty

satisfied with but then you see a YouTuber trying a new concealer that just seems so

much better than the one you have, so you have to get this one as well and it this never

ends.

It's just this cycle that goes on and on and on.

So what actually are the problems with consumerism you might ask because maybe this you don't

see any issues with this.

The first thing is that just the sheer amount of ads and product placements and things that

are bombarded at us.

People say that you should have the mental strength to resist this, but the truth of

the matter is that a lot of times you can't.

There is just so much stuff all day long that shape your complete world views and we don't

even notice it, so it's very very hard to escape this trap once you're in it.

The second problem with consumerism is that it takes time and it's stressful and it takes

energy and money to get new things.

Sometimes it's money we don't have, facilitated by credit cards where we can buy things without

actually having the money, but the fact is, it's never enough, it will never be enough.

You are not gonna be satisfied by buying more and more things.

The third problem with consumerism is that we are now in this kind of culture where we

always compare ourselves with others, that means we're constantly in a state of dissatisfaction,

because we always want what the other person has.

We're never going to be the one that has all of it, you know, there is always gonna be

someone out there that has more and better things and we are always gonna want that if

we keep comparing ourselves to other people.

One of the most important problems with it is that it's an unsustainable lifestyle uh

unsustainable for the earth.

We live on a planet where the amount of resources are finite and already now we're living way

beyond our planet's limits and it's just a question of time of how long it's sustainable

in this way.

And the fifth problem with consumerism is that really it prevents us from living the

life that we really want to live because we are focussing on the wrong things.

We're focussing on the wrong things to make us happy and therefore we will not be satisfied.

So now we know the problems, what can we do about it?

As always change starts with each individual the first thing you can do is exercise intellectual

independence.

Basically be aware of how consumerism influences you, make sure you think about what is an

ad and what is not, make sure you think about which YouTubers you can trust and which are

just trying to push their own agenda.

And secondly just make an effort even if it's just a tiny effort, to buy less stuff and

live more.

Just try living the life you want to, not that anybody else has that you want to have,

but your own life and what you want to reach in life.

So I hope this video cleared up a little bit of what consumerism actually is, if you did

like this video you can always leave me a thumbs up, you can subscribe right here, you

can also hit that notification bell.

I make three to four videos Mondays to Fridays and I really hope I'll see you next video!

Bye bye!

8 Ways to Prevent Colon Cancer - Duration: 7:42.

8 Ways to Prevent Colon Cancer

Colon cancer doesn't get the same attention as some higher-profile cancers, but it should.

It's the third most common cancer in the United States, with 140,000 people diagnosed

each year.

And over a million men and women live with a history of the disease.

Then there's the good news about colon cancer: It can be prevented.

Seventy-five percent of all cases could be avoided by things you can do.

Use these eight tips as a guide to lowering your risk.

Start with one or two and build from there.

It's your health.

Take control.

1.

Get Screened Getting regular screening tests for colon

cancer is the single best way to protect yourself from the disease.

It can catch cancer early, when it's most treatable, and help prevent the disease by

finding abnormal growths called polyps that can turn into cancer.

There are a number of effective screening tests for colon cancer.

Some are easy to do but need to be done more often.

Others are more involved but need to be done less often.

Which test you have depends on your personal preferences and medical history.

A doctor can help you decide.

Most people begin getting tested at age 50.

People with a family history of colon cancer or other important risk factors may begin

testing at younger ages and get tested more often.

Choose one of these recommended screening options.

If a test finds anything suspicious, a follow-up colonoscopy is usually needed.

Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT)/Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT)

How often: every year

Tests that look for hidden blood in the stool, which can be a sign of cancer.

The test is quick and easy.

You just take small samples of your stool at home, which are then sent to a lab to be

tested.

OR

Colonoscopy

How often: every 10 years

A small flexible tube with a camera at the end is used to examine the full length of

the inside of the colon.

You are sedated for the test, so you need a ride home afterward.

If the exam finds polyps or other suspicious growths, they can be removed during the test.

OR

Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

How often: every five years

An exam similar to a colonoscopy that uses a small flexible tube to examine the lower

part of the colon (the sigmoid).

You don't need to be sedated for a sigmoidoscopy.

OR

Virtual Colonoscopy

How often: every five years

A type of CT scan that creates a precise 3-D image of the inside of the colon.

During the test, a small tube is inserted into the rectum to gently inflate the colon

with air.

The scan itself takes just a few minutes.

2.

Maintain a Healthy Weight Except for smoking, nothing else raises the

overall risk of cancer more than being overweight.

At least 11 different cancers have been linked to weight gain and obesity, including colon

cancer.

An ideal goal is to weigh around what you did when you were 18 years old.

Realistically, if you've put on weight, the first goal is to stop gaining weight,

which has health benefits by itself.

Then, for a bigger health boost, slowly work to lose some pounds.

3.

Don't Smoke It hardly needs saying anymore, but not smoking

is the single best thing you can do for your health.

On top of raising the risk of serious diseases like heart disease, stroke and emphysema,

smoking is a major cause of at least 14 different cancers, including colon cancer.

If you do smoke, quitting has real benefits, which start shortly after your last cigarette.

Call 1-800-QUIT-NOW or visit smokefree.gov for help.

Talking to a doctor can double your chance of success.

4.

Be Physically Active It's hard to beat regular activity.

It lowers the risk of many serious diseases, including colon cancer, and provides a good

mental boost.

Any amount of physical activity is better than none, but it's good to aim for around

30 minutes or more of moderate activity each day.

Choose things you enjoy, like brisk walking, cycling, dancing or gardening.

5.

Drink Only Moderately, if at All Alcohol is a strange thing when it comes to

health.

It's heart-healthy in moderation but can increase the risk of colon and other cancers

at even low levels.

So what does this mean?

If you drink moderately (up to one drink per day for women, two per day for men), there's

likely no reason for you to stop.

If you don't drink, though, there's no reason for you to start.

Heavy drinkers should try to cut down or quit.

6.

Limit Red Meat, Especially Processed Meat Eating too much red meat – like steak, hamburger

and pork – increases the risk of colon cancer.

And processed meats – like bacon, sausage and bologna – raise risk even more.

Try to eat no more than three servings each week.

Less is even better.

7.

Get Enough Calcium and Vitamin D There is good evidence that getting enough

calcium and vitamin D can help protect against colon cancer.

Shoot for 1,000 to 1,200 milligrams per day of calcium and about 1,000 international units

(IU) per day of vitamin D. Some groups recommend testing for vitamin D deficiency, especially

in those with increased risk of low levels, such as those living in northern parts of

the country as well as elderly people, very overweight people and people with darker skin.

8.

Consider a Multivitamin With Folate A daily multivitamin is a good nutrition insurance

policy that can also help protect against colon cancer.

In addition to calcium and vitamin D, multivitamins contain folate, which has been shown

in numerous studies to lower the risk of colon cancer.

Avoid mega-dose vitamins.

A standard multivitamin is all you need.

Other Important Risk Factors for Colon Cancer Though colon cancer is very preventable, there

are still a number of important risk factors that people can't control.

Knowing which ones apply to you can help you understand your risk and take steps to lower

it.

If you feel you're at high risk, talk to a doctor or health professional.

These can increase colon cancer risk:

-Older age, especially 60 years or older -Family history of colon cancer

-Inflammatory bowel disease -Being tall (5 feet 8 inches or taller for

women; 5 feet 11 inches or taller for men)

Elizabeth Schulte Martin - excerpt from Everything You Came to See - Duration: 2:26.

Hi! I'm Elizabeth. I'm going to read a little bit from my novel,

"Everything You Came to See." First act. In the mornings people aren't in the mood

to be entertained. They walk a wide arc around me. They avoid my eyes and the

coffee can I have out for tips. They have to get to one of those gray glass

buildings and they don't have time for some kid with greasy hair who refuses to

get a real job. But I have a long reach. I have a million tricks to close the

distance. In this act, I hook the audience by offering someone an apple. If they

reach for it, I pull it away. Today, the guy I hooked was a tie wearing,

briefcase toting businessman with a Tom Selleck mustache, and when I pulled

the apple away he actually looked a little surprised. I don't know why. Here I

am in white face, eyebrows arched up to my hairline, and he expects some sort of

serious transaction to go on between us? No, no, guy. You've mistaken me for someone

who doesn't wear spandex body suits on the street. I'm not the someone who's

going to give you a snack on the go and make it easier for you to get right to

your boring job. I'm this someone who's going to make you late. I delay reality.

I don't feed it to you. This morning with Tom Selleck, I spun the apple on the tip

of my finger Harlem Globetrotter style then balanced it on the tip of my nose.

Two more people stopped to watch and I offered him the apple again. Before he

could get his hand on it, I popped at 20 feet into the air. At this point the guy

got mad, which was perfect because people who won't stop to watch someone's

amazing physical agility might still stop to see a potential fight. I bounced

the apple around like a hacky sack. Heel, toe, knee, hip, elbow. I kept it

knocking against all the edges of my body, got a nice rhythm going there, then

let it hit me in the crotch. Everybody, especially Mr. Selleck, laughed. All in

all about five people stayed to see the act to the end, which is pretty

successful busking for me. I drew those five people into the space between

themselves and the apple, and close that space with a

snap and locked it, so they'll never see another apple without thinking of me.

Also, I made a dollar fifty.
