Hello, I'm Fabi Gamboa, from..
We All Belong Alliance . Let me ask you a very important question.
How often do you stop and think about public policy?
This is why…
Every day Public Policy impacts every town, city and state across America.
But how does public policy personally Impact you?
In this video I will ask you to compare how you would vote on similar public policy issues
and think about how they would impact you and your family.
I will show you why your opinion is important and makes a difference where you live.
Public Policy are important legal decisions that citizens and politicians make based on
the needs of the residents.
Those needs are very specific and they impact everyone in different ways.
Public policies are passed based on the majority of votes, so if you need to see positive changes,
please start by taking this 5 minute reflection and see how your voice and vote matters.
For many years the 8,500 citizens of Smalburg have had no school system.
By law the children are forced to travel outside their boundaries to attend Mid City schools
which are seriously over crowded, underfunded and on such a limited budget that comfort
and security have become an issue.
The only solution to this problem, is to build a school system in Smalburg, but how will
all the landowners in Smalburg welcome the new school tax?
Parents with school age children might correlate and accept the taxation to a greater degree
than those who do not have children and have to pay the same tax.
During the harsh winter months Frost City, Minnesota is under dangerous feet of snow
without the equipment or workforce to clear main roads for traffic.
All Schools and work are forced to halt for up to 2 weeks.!
The city's budget just isn't enough to prepare for the next big snow storm unless
the funds are taken from the city's park and recreation department which were intended
to fix the desperately needed children's playgrounds.
Parents with children need the park fixed immediately, but they also fear the loss of
wages and school days in the next winter storms.
What would you do If you lived in Frost City?
The state of Rhode Island recently passed a law to increase the minimum wage by $2.00
due to the cost of living.
While most Employees welcome the raise, others are afraid of losing their jobs or benefits
because some employers have voiced concerns that the pay raise might be too steep to maintain
employees and benefits and still make a decent profit
In New Hampshire the most popular Highway to the beach is the 101, for a few years now,
the highway is so crowded its takes the locals hours to travel small distances, going to
work and school are nearly impossible, so a new legislative policy would stretch the
2 lane road into a 4 lane road and increase the speed limit from 60 to 70.
The residents along the highway feel the constructions will take too long to benefit the current
problem and it might make it worse.
Other feel the unattractiveness of years of construction might cause home values to decrease.
Yet resident along the coast are very pleased with the policy
In California over 26,000 acres of sand dunes used to exist between Colton, Rialto and Fontana
, while development began in the early 80's,
it was discovered in 1993 that the Delhi Sand fly which was on the endangered species list
inhabited most of the land and construction was halted!
The cities wanted to keep up with the housing demands of the Inland Empire, while the Fish
and Wildlife Service, a federal power, had a mission to preserve the very special sand
fly.
Land values depreciated for decades following the preservation efforts.
It took 30 years of public involvement and public policy to begin construction.
48 Acres are still Delhi San Fly habitat which satisfies the majority.
At WABA, We Hope this video will encourage you to vote and give your opinions at local
and state meetings, maybe even ask others to join you.
