Hey guys welcome to Scoutr My name is Michael Saye I'm the host for this show and today
we're going to be talking about this program that I did in 2016 called National Youth Leadership Training some people refer to it as in
NYLT
In this video I'm going to be trying to-
I'm going to show you the advantages
I'm going to show you the disadvantages, and I'm going to try and convince you to go and
Make your troop better by sending you to in NYLT. Let's get into...
NYLT is an exciting, action-packed
leadership training for American scouts in loyalties purpose is to give Scouts
Leadership skills and to give them things that they can take home to their home troops and other leadership
requiring activities so that they can lead
NYLT centers around the idea of what a leader should BE, KNOW, and DO and then it teaches you HOW TO
Do different leadership things based on those three concepts.
As the patrols in NYLT go through the course they start to learn better leadership skills make new friends
It's a really great experience, I think. When I went there I had a ton of fun. Like, at the beginning,
It was a little awkward because you just kind of get thrust into a patrol of people you don't know
But trust me you if you're antisocial and that doesn't sound good to you
By the end of NYLT you will be singing along to all the songs, talking with all the patrol members
They'll now be your
Bleh-
Then I'll be your BFF
So go to NYLT,
Because it's fun.
so NYLT is a 6 day course and basically what you do is you
Sign up online, and then you go to the camp, which for me It was at Camp Nash
I don't actually know where that is, but it was at Camp Naish, Theodore Naish, and
They kind of dropped-
My parents dropped me off at the parking lot in the, camp Naish
And I got a whole bunch of different merchandise. I got a couple shirts,
I got a hat, which is pretty sweet, and I got a book here
We've got a hat from NYLT, a shirt
from NYLT I was in the blue group so I got blue and then
One of the dopest things about this book right here
NYLT Book is the fact that it's got camp songs in the back of it
Those are pretty dope
And then after you're done with that you go, and you
meet your patrol members which
Doesn't take up a lot of time because I mean how long does it take to meet somebody?
And you just kind of go from say
Yo
And then they're like yo, and you're just like
Bye
But in all seriousness you meet your patrol members
and then you bring all your stuff because you have to bring luggage obviously and
You get taken to your campsite, and there's this thing in NYLT,
I don't remember exactly what's called, it's been like a year, but we have a leader sort of he's not the main leader
But he's the leader of our Patrol. He's an older dude. I think for us he was about maybe
17 or 18 and
Basically he took us to our campsites. We got assigned tent partners. I was with this dude. I forgot his name
But yeah, we all called him BG, and that's the thing in loyalty
My Patrol none of us called us by our regular names we went by nicknames so we had Ferb, Baljeet, we had
BG which stands for bodyguard by the way we had
Hmm, I think we had Druggy
So mostly, my NYTL
Experience is a little fuzzy, but I do remember most of the classes that we did because they were extremely meaningful
I remember all the people there
I don't necessarily remember all there nicknames or their names because I'm not a name person
I kind of go for faces more than names since NYLT
I've seen some of my tent mates at least five times and even if you're antisocial
You it's very hard to say that that's a bad thing if you're curious about what the classes are like they're
Really, not nearly as bad as you think they are
When you think of classes you might be thinking of like school classes
but there are a lot of fun and
the lessons that they teach are actually meaningful
The next thing is the meals. Now if you're familiar with Bartle or
if you've been to Naish before
The meals are worse, okay. The meals at NYLT aren't very good, so bring snacks
Lots of snacks
Bring snacks, I warned you guys in that last video about scouting 500 nobody listen
Bring snacks, meals are fun
They're very fun because I mean when you first start out
they're not as fun because you're kind of nervous and
Still in your shell. You got to break out of your shell at NYLT
Because they're gonna force you to break out of your shell at NYLT if you're a leader
You're not a follower. You don't stand in the crowd and be a crowd
During meals you do a lot of singing
Which sounds horrible if you're antisocial if you don't like singing
Go to NYLT and you'll love singing because
They make you sing at NYLT
Sort of I mean they they don't make you sing
but you're gonna want to sing by the end of it, but for me and my friend Jerry, but actually me my friend Jerry and
two kids from my troop named
Patrick and
Charles who are brothers
Us four all went in the same group
We were all put in different patrols, which makes sense and we hardly talked to each other actually now that
I think back on it. We didn't talk very much because we were mostly focused in our
little single patrols
