My name is Joel Taylor and I'm studying the Bachelor of Pharmacy here at the
Orange CSU Campus. I chose to study pharmacy because I did a bit of work
placement and work experience in the field beforehand. I also loved helping
people from a young age and doing the pharmacy degree sets you up in a
good stead to be able to offer your support to people who might be in need
or might be ill in some way. And it also allows you to be there for them to have
an ear to listen to them. I chose Charles Sturt University because it was really
convenient to myself having grown up in a regional area such as Orange meant
that I didn't have to move into the city and I would stay localised with my
community, friends and set up that I already had working in my current job. The
virtual pharmacy is being really good to access what might be available in a real
pharmacy and to see some of the products, get them out and do the demonstrations
so when we do get to work that we know we can tell the customers because we've
seen them before. I did a placement here at the Orange hospital and I learnt a
totally different side of pharmacy because I had experience at working in a
community pharmacy but to see that Hospital Pharmacy kind of open my eyes
up to another area of pharmacy that I didn't see before and the staff there
were really good. They were friendly they were very informative and I learnt a
lot of clinical things that you don't necessarily see in just working in a
community pharmacy. I found myself a community pharmacy that has offered me
an intern position and it was a pharmacy that I've been working at for the last
few years whilst I've been studying here at Charles Sturt. I've noticed that a lot
of friends and colleagues who are also studying have found it really easy to
find a job because there is that need for pharmacists out here in the rural
areas. If you put in the effort and you're genuinely interested in it then
you're going to get the results and it's a really rewarding course to do. Learn as
much as you can because it's something that you can really apply in the real
world to help people
